The lyrics simply foresaw that around the year 2,000 men would spend long late hours in the office staring at numbers on a computer screen instead of heading home to their wives. By the way, great song.
To me , the 2000 man is actually an aging millennial or Gen Z, so it's actually like the year 2050...he exists only as a number on a plastic piece of film (credit cards) ....a dude that grows "funny flowers" on his window sill (legal cannabis garden) ...my wife still respects me (gender politics) ... but having an affair with a computer (Still cheats on the internet)...my kids don't understand me (hyper-environmentalists) ...
