To those of you who are puzzled by the mention of "an affair with a random computer," here goes my interpretation:
The song was written almost 30 years prior to the advent of the Internet, it's then obvious they could not have predicted its future existence.
However, at the time (1967,) all banks and most big corporations had office computers.
The lyrics simply foresaw that around the year 2,000 men would spend long late hours in the office staring at numbers on a computer screen instead of heading home to their wives.
    By the way, great song.

To me , the 2000 man is actually an aging millennial or Gen Z, so it's actually like the year 2050...he exists only as a number on a plastic piece of film (credit cards) ....a dude that grows "funny flowers" on his window sill (legal cannabis garden) ...my wife still respects me (gender politics) ... but having an affair with a computer (Still cheats on the internet)...my kids don't understand me (hyper-environmentalists) ... Notice how the music gets TOTALLY amped as his kids step into the picture...the REAL kicker.

@@denisliber6740 That's not really true is it. I could create a death metal version of this song, and it would be the same music/lyrics.................. It's the performers who decide the mood/arrangement/tone/groove of a song. And Brian Jones had almost complete control of that until about 1967. I mean, Keith barely played on 2000 Man, he didn't play at all on She's a Rainbow, and he barely played on 2000 Light Years from Home. And had absolutely nothing to do with their arrangements.
