That describes me too. 😂 I’m writing a young adult book and I’ve had a writers block for a few weeks. I need to work it, but I’ve been focusing on other stuff so I’ve not had time. I wrote the prologue in about three days, and chapter one took about three weeks…
I can just imagine Mr jalapeno being like "and a teaspoon of lyre and a tablespoon of piano 🎹 oh and then Odysseus sings about his men dying or something"
Jay really did a Polites and went: "Lead from the heartt, and see what starts" when it comes to songwriting for this mythical musical lmao-🎶✨ Love that you share your creative processes with us Mr. Jalapeño, can't wait for more from you!~🙏🏽✨
I have no musical bone in my body beyond listening to music and enjoying it. I adore listening to how great artists and composers like you think and create. Thank you for sharing!
I have memorized every lyric, every musical motif, and every small little detail of this musical, which is something I don’t or can’t usually do. You and everyone in EPIC have made this memorable. If you asked me to sing a song from EPIC I would be able to sing it word for word, and add the music in between lines cause I love the song so much. This musical is the only one that connected with me this much, and made me feel like I was inside of the musical when listening to it. For example: In the Cyclops saga, I truly felt like I was in Polyphemus’s cave, while just sitting in my bedroom. This is something truly magical, Jay. Hope you have a wonderful day. ❤️
I have done the same. There's a single line in My Goodbye that I periodically forget and it drives me up the wall until I can remember it because I literally know this entire musical by heart and being one line away drives me crazy.
“The very essence of creativity is exploration” I could not have worded it better, creative outlets are a unique freedom.there are no rules as long as you have fun
This really helps me appreciate how hard it was for you to write the "I am the monster rawr rawr rawr" part! It is so detailed and the melody and different instruments is amazing!
Honestly it shows that you put so much effort into creating the melody & that it’s inseparable from the lyrics. I feel like I could listen to Epic without any lyrics at all and still understand the moods/personalities/scenes the music portrays. Your songwriting process genuinely works so well, I hope you stay inspired. 🧡☀️🌻
I’m Not Sorry for Loving You is such a great song and makes me so emotional every time!! Thanks for sharing your experience about how there are multiple ways to approach creative projects.
As a person who has been starting to write my own music, this was super helpful! Good to know that there isn’t a specific way to write songs! Love your music keep up the amazing work!❤
am I the only one who rushed to see what the new epic content was? Jay your song made me feel the story of Odysseus, and how he had to change. Your voice created an image of Odysseus in my mind and I watched all of your released sagas at least four times now. And your yapping 🦕 about your songwriting process actually is really funny and even the drafts are beautiful (yes even the I'm the Monster Rawr Rawr Rawr) thank you so much for creating such a masterpiece and gifting it to the world
We always need people to yap about music! It’s interesting hearing different ways people go about writing music, and it’s a great service to this world that you’ve given us this absolute masterpiece
Omg this is how I write songs too! I create a melody first, usually attached to lyrics but sometimes it's just a little tune, then the rest follows. It's nice to find someone else who doesn't follow the 'traditional' songwriting process most people teach.
It’s so interesting to learn the many different ways of making music, everyone has their own little thing and it’s fun to see what everyone’s is. I really enjoy seeing how the music its self is made because then you can truly see the amount of thought that was put into it and just the general process. It’s just so much fun hearing people yap about their music.
For someone who doesn't know anything about music, hearing you talking help me a lot to understand the deeper meanings of your songs, so thank you Mr jalapeño for those yapping sessions 😂❤❤❤
The way he just casually sings so high and so beautifully! I am so excited for the rest of the musical! I can't wait to cry while listening to Not Sorry For Loving You. I love all these snippets into your mind and seeing all the behind the scenes stuff. Makes me feel more connected and a part of the process to witness all of this while the musical is still being released. Thank you for sharing this with us 💙
I love your songs and all the thought you put into them! There’s sooo much storytelling in unexpected ways and that’s one of my favorite things about epic! Your process is great and thank you for yapping about it!
You can really tell that Jay is a musical genius just by looking at this video. It just comes natural to him, he enjoys music, and he rocks all the EPIC stuff released (pun intended). Love you Jay, and thank you so much for giving EPIC to us! We love your yapping. Please keep on yapping.
When Jorge said "The very essence of creativity is exploration of the mind", the first thing my mind did was singing "We are Exploraaaaators of the miiiiiiiind"
I was curious where Not Sorry For Loving You came from. It ended up being almost a word for word description of the end of one of my close friend’s relationships, and I wondered how it was so perfect.

Hi im from Greece.I wanted to say that here we have a saying that goes 'From Shcyla to Harybdi' we pretty much say it when something goes from bad to the absolute worst.Just a little fact keep going strong i can't wait for Arc 2
In that last clip, we just need to pretend that Jay is very old and a nobel prize winner, and share it with EVERYONE. You, know so it goes down in history. And Uncle Iroh is just very inspirational, isn’t he? 🤔
I really appreciate hearing things like this, the song writing process and hearing you talk about Easter eggs or musical motifs are some of my favorite things to consider while I listen through Act I.
I honestly love that you go into detail like this- so many inspired musicians just pump out albums/concepts and it often sounds great! But as someone who has little-to-no inclination towards music-writing, despite embracing my own creativity in art/animation and knowing there had to be some process, it can feel a lot like this wonderful magical thing that popped out of thin air and landed on my recommended page. You don't see a ton of people release their music, and then make videos explaining their thought process! Your explanations truly make it feel more real! You might see it as "yapping" lol but as a normally-quiet bystander/fan, I'd argue your behind-the-scenes clips are nearly as inspiring as your finished albums themselves :D I look forward to continuing to follow along, both to your music and your process!
3:11 DANGEROUS MENTIONED the unofficial release of Dangerous (used in the animatic) has really helped me be very motivated. It is definitely one of my favorite songs ever. It's getting me through tough times, and the music just hits really hard. I've found myself listening to it for hours on end, either for motivation or just enjoyment
"The essence of creativity is exploration." I often put myself under "proven methods" when it comes to writing, and that always makes me frustrated. There is a lot we can learn from those who have gone before us, but creativity is the process of discovering, and it's as unique a journey for each artist as each artist is unique. Thank you for the reminder! Love Epic and your videos. I am so curious to see who Odysseus becomes in the end. Also, thank you for tackling themes of wrestling with humanity that comes with being a soldier. Often, heroes are portrayed as doing the right thing and moving on. Rarely they struggling with the humanity of their enemy. So thank you! I can only think of one other literary example that does this (Aang vs Ozai). Keep writing! 🦖🦖🦖
I just gotta say I love this musical. The songs make me so emotional and it connects me with my mythologies. I’ve been watching this progress for years now, and I absolutely adore being consumed by this music
Just recently got into Epic and I absolutely love seeing your process, I've been getting back into singing by practicing covers for Warrior of the Mind and Wouldn't You Like. Can't wait for Act 2!!
We love seeing the progress of your musical! You making this musical has given me a lot of motivation to make one of my own. Every time I watch one of these videos, I get really inspired. You're great and I also love your vibes.
Never stop yapping, your yappanese is amazing and I love to hear you explain things. It makes things very special especially when you explain the lyrics
I have gotten inspiration like that so many times! I'll watch something, or be in the shower, or be going about my day and something completely unrelated to what I was thinking of pops up and it's just like: that's it. I know what I have to do. BTW I love the raw piano chords on that! Your approach is honestly kind of like the songwriting version of being a 'pantser' in writing, where you write by the seat of your pants, and you have a general idea and just go for it, sometimes writing bits here or there, and develop it as you go along. That's my style, and it allows for so much creative flow!
I love hearing you yap about your song-writing process as much as I love your incredible music that comes from said process, //which is A LOT// 🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for sharing with us!!
