As someone who does the exact same thing with my best friend, yeah. I know a lot of people that can relate to you. I just refer to him as "my brother" but before they meet anyone else in my family I have to clarify that he isn't ACTUALLY my brother, and my siblings don't have any where near as much care for him as I do, and that just gets awkward...
