- Take a 1991 MR2 and sprinkle it with a 2GR-FE V6 and the outcome is probably one of the most awesome cars I have reviewed to date.

This engine is awesome, I brought my brother an 06 Avalon, one of the very first cars with a 2GR and by God, it is so damn torquey that 90 mph was no sweat.
It is an amazing engine in a car with this weight! Perfect balance of sound and power!
I finally did it.. Scheduled my time with ATS. 2GR heaven awaits me.
It will be glorious! If I ever end up with an MR2 the GR has to go in it!
@@TheDutchTexan my car is done... just have to get it shipped back.... Aaron is the boss... if you want a no nonsense swap he's the man!
I am exited for you man! The world is going to be your playground with that engine!
@@ryshask how is it? I'm swapping to 2gr right now :)
Back in the day, you could get a set of 94 taillights for $300. Good old early 2000 days. Lol
That and everything (anno 2022 for those reading this 100 years from now) is completely out of whack!
I just looked, wow. I bought my set for $385 and that felt like too much. $1700-2400 today, not at all worth it.
Very cool car! It’s quite exotic tbh. At 4:59, 5:38, and 7:00 that sound kinda reminds me of the humming tone from a v12 lamborghini 🤔. Pretty crazy to compare it to that I know but it is half it’s size 🤷🏼♂️
It sounded amazing in person. And when I saw the footage from the rearward facing camera and heard the audio I was amazed at how great it sounded on camera as well. It's hit or mis sometimes, but this one came out better than I could ever expect!
This one of the best mr2 videos...love this guy's attitude man
It’s comments like yours that keep me going!
Great review man I’m stoked to do my 3SGTE went so it’s time! Do you think it’s plenty without it being Supercharged/boosted? Would you go further or was it plenty?
Shit sorry I couldn’t make it here earlier, but this was such an interesting build to see. It’s basically a lotus exige in disguise, and yeah, the handling is amazing for sure
I keep things very civil and never go beyond the limit. But it is safe to say that this is one of the cars that took the double 270’s harder than most. Very confidence inspiring!
Congratulations, your best review yet!
Thank you! I liked how this one turned out as well. It flowed extremely well while filming it. Sometimes I am an utter mess! LOL
I have a 2010 is350 (3600lbs?) with the 2gr-fse and hit 60mph in 5.0 flat and 13.6 quarter...I can imagine how quick it is in a mid engine car at 2500lbs.
It's very quick... And it does everything you want it to as well. This one is setup just right. Cruises great. Want to go in a straight line? It got you. Corners? No problem either. NSX vibes, with the exception that this is a lot quicker!
Why didn't Toyota do this in the first place??? Sounds amazing
About to do mine can’t wait! 🎉🤘
Going to be a riot!
This body style fits so well with the 2gr engine, & what handling . awesome combo, don't want to sound dumb but is the mr2 rear wheel drive?
Yes, it is rear wheel drive, good thing too since the engine is in the middle!
Wow dude great video. I have always loved this guys mr2, since I saw it on Instagram. Definitely need the 2gr for mine. Saving for it right now. Surprised he still has the stock sterring wheel haha!
Love the enthusiasm btw. This car deserves it!
@@mushlove6933 it was an awesome experience! The ultimate naturally aspirated MR2 out there IMHO!
Whelp so much for my blown 3gste time for this bad boy! 😊 🤘
All that power on tap with ultimate predictability. It’s a win!
Here in the Netherlands, these cars go to the roof and the swap will cost more because all of the imports...so I have to let this dream go...😢. But what a great car!!!!❤
It’s beautiful! I was part of the car scene in the Netherlands in the early 2000s and there were some pretty awesome cars out there. Not mine, I had a Peugeot 405 with 1.9 GTI wheels. It looked cool but fast it was not.
@The Dutch Texan ohw yeah, they where Beautiful😍
I think there are a lot of cars in Europe, they are missing out in America. Citroën BX/XM for example.
BX sport… In red… paid for with a Polaroid…
In all seriousness I’d love to have a hot Peugeot stateside. I used to own a 305 and 405 and the lines on those cars were beautiful.
N/a is life
Dope video man! Great Energy!
Thanks man! Cars like this make that pretty easy!
What's the exhaust setup on the MR2 here?
Siiiiiick build! Great video as usual.
Thank you Shane! And yes, this car was done right!
I was going to sell mine but after watching this video, i am going to do a V6 swap.
If I ever end up with one? 2GR swap. I love the turbo but naturally aspirated v6 noises and very usable and 100% predictable power at every turn? That’s the ticket!
@@TheDutchTexan Thank you for making this amazing video
It was my pleasure! Thank you for watching it!
Someone tell me why ive been looking up 2gr mr2 vids for the better part of this entire month and youtube decides to wait a whole day to show me this
It is the big mystery! I am glad they finally did though!
@@TheDutchTexan idk how or when but this HAS be my first build!
I hope you can make it happen! Step one has been realized already. You set an attainable goal!
Same here brother! Definitely first build of a car whenever I get out of university
wow cool car its like the SW20 i had its also 99 spec and 3SGTE turbo with 250HP and also on RPF1's but T TOP
This is definitely one of the top 10 cars I have ever driven! It had the perfect power and it handled beautifully!
Personally I prefer the older square tail lights. seems better fit for the time these cars came out. the extractor hood is functionally awesome but I have yet to see one done on an MR2 I think looks like it "could" have come from factory. I own a 91T and its my pride and joy. Its the 5th mr2 I've had and I swear I want to be buried in it. "Activating" LoL good word use. MR2's certainly do tend to Activate people. =D
Really? That’s interesting! I don’t mind them, but I just love the look of the 94’s which is going to be a problem if I am ever in a position to get one of my own, just like the 2GR swap for that matter (got another dream of a classic American car that needs to happen first).
It’s when you are on the freeway cruising and randomly people either try to race you or cruise with you, it’s a thing: Activate! Lol
I drove a 1mz v6 91 mr2... It haunted my soul.... I found a 94 turbo after a year of searching to put a 2gr into it.
Congratulations on starting that journey! And a 94, so you don't have to do the tail light mod! Very nice!
@@TheDutchTexan 94 suspension is a lot better than the 91-92 as well... Still has bump steer issues but it's a lot more manageable.
Yup, heard they fixed a bunch of stuff because of people chucking them out of corners. This one didn’t give me any static though, set up extremely well. I must admit I never get close to the limit, you can’t do that, but it was definitely one of the faster cornering cars I have driven.
Update those seats. I've got Sparco Grid Q. Very light. If money is abundant, get Tillet.
old lights and the autopista wing.... way better!
Great swap m8!-)
Cheers
I wish it was mine! It has a turbo and a dogbox now... Complete different animal!
imagine they d sold an engine called 2gr-GE...with an vvtl-i
header exh setup?!
According to the battery gauge in the middle of your cluster that was never a 2 l turbocharger engine that was a 2.2 l naturally aspirated... But still cool car
The cluster was swapped out. Trust me, it’s an original 91 Turbo Hardtop. Made more sense to swap in the NA cluster due to not having boost. Functional gauge vs. nonfunctional gauge.
@@launcebennett563 but the redline is lower on a NA cluster... Just doesn't make sense to me to do that for a battery gauge...
Could also have been switched to an electronic cluster from the 93 plus models, of which an na cluster would be easier to get your hands on.
Hood vent says different
@@Fabrizio7171 anyone can swap a turbo vented deck lid... That's an upgrade... Why would you downgrade your cluster just for a battery gauge...
What front lip is that
Im in Austin and id love to collab! You’d love my JDM swapped S2000!
I am in the DFW area so I don’t think I’ll be down there anytime soon! I appreciate the offer though!
What kind of wheels are those in 3:23
what wheel well arches are those, i like how subtle they are
They are molded custom fiberglass pieces according to the owner.
fucking shweeeeet
im saving up for that swap
pretty pricy but i hope it’s worth it
It is better! Comparing this with a 2.0 turbo it terms of drivability and responsiveness is not even remotely fair. If I end up owning an MR2, this would be the goal for it.
Looks and sounds good, the best engine swapped imo.
Groetje van California.
For sure! It sounds absolutely amazing!
2gr is amazing but I like the 1mz's sound more
Do you have the stock transmission?
Not the owner, but he has solara gears in it.
what kind of manual transmission is this car running to?
E153 with the final drive from a solara.
E153 with the final drive from a solara.
E153 with the final drive from a solara.
According to the cluster it NEVER had a 2.0l turbo but whatever.
The cluster was swapped when he went NA. You need to sit down and enjoy the video or just take a hike.
@The Dutch Texan my apologies, but with the na cluster, no fog lights or center console, it screams na. Doesn't make a difference with what he's done with it. It's an awesome build. That's the best part of these cars it doesn't matter how it starts it's life, it's what you can do with them! I have a 93 hardtop that started as base as they come but will be built into a similar monster, so does it really matter how they started out?
