This is the first public comment I have ever made (and I am a daily tech user), but it's worth it to finally comment to say thank you. This was explained so exceptionally well. Bravo. Fixed my problem immediately after viewing so many complicated ideas from a variety of discussion boards. Thanks!

I know this is an old video but I want to thank you for creating it. It's still relevant 12 years later. I had a horrible time re-learning sketchup and this video both saved me from pulling my hair out and also how to create more accurate objects. If you want to make an irregular shaped object this lesson is very important. Thank you!

And still helping 14 years later. I had learned this once before a couple years ago but forgot the trick of changing the colors to correspond to the axis to uncover the problem. Hopefully my brain will retain it for good this time. 🙂

Well, yes, this is good info, but it's just a simple cube aligned with the major axis. That's easy. I have this problem with more complex polygons and even though I ensure the connecting parts are parallel and in plane, it still doesn't draw a plane.

If your lines are made up of curves, try to explode the curves. It will be divided into small connected lines. Erase one of those line and reconnect it again using the pencil tool.
Just try it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
It doesn't work all the time but worth a try.

The edges of a rectangle DON'T NEED to be parallel to create a face. It is sufficient (and necassary) that the 4 points are in the same plane

    • @jerrydonovan7507
      @jerrydonovan7507 6 лет назад

Exactly correct. In fact, the bottom and far right faces are examples of faces where not all the edges are parallel with other edges.

why are there this much issue with holes in the figures, cant they fix these kind of problems? i mean, the tools seems to be there but it is hell finding them if you dont know where to look.
i really like working in sketchup but there is always this same problem after a few hours of work.
i have tried the solid inspector plugin, and its a great tool, but it is a tool for something that shouldn´t be an issue in the first place.

It's easier to draw the line past the object since it will connect it anyways instead of having to zoom in and try to draw it right to your line then just erase the excess line past the object

There is no Style window in Sketchup 2017 which I have. Can you do a new video that shows where all these option are now???? I am not seeing them in here. And that joker from Sketchup Essentials won't do a simple troubleshoot video like this one. Thank you.

sometimes it is to small and will keep snapping to the axis. I just redraw the line past the crossing line and then erase the extention.

hmm...I have this problem which is hard to find the solution so I'm going to ask about it here:
my problem is I create a flat shape ( a karambit actually) and I try using push tool and push the face upwards...the problem is as I push it I notice that there is no face created after I push it...its like one side of the karambit is there while the other is not there...as I push it using push/pull tool it does not create the face...so what exactly happen to my sketch ?

How about curved surfaces? I could only get mine when I formed a flat face and pushed it upwards. (the curve was part of a circle) But when I erased it to change the length of it, I couldn't get it back with an arc line.
Any solutions, other than redrawing everything and pushing them up?

But thank you very much for this video, i just started using sketchup for the first time and of course this horrendous problem immediately occurred.
