This song always reminds me of how much I love my Dad. I'd like to think that even if my Dad was a drunk or I didn't even know him I'd still be the man I am now, I'd still have overcome everything the world threw at me. But the truth is, I couldn't have done this without my Dad. He was always the wind in my sails and the wise voice in my ear. I know not many young men are blessed enough to say this, but my Dad is my hero and I wouldn't be who I am without him. Not even close. This song is incredible.

Your dad's problem stands to me came from being on this earth, it had nothing to do with how he felt about you. You answered your own thought some how some way you made it through that and your father did too. Remember the way you see yourself came from your father's fight. And God freed him from that burden when he passed through the gates of Heaven. No two better arms to be in than God's. When you find yourself feeling down remember you where his child before the booze got a hold of him.

I like how John talks about his relationship with a mentor or his dad in the beginning of the song and can't quite fathom the meaning of life as passed down by that older person but it all makes sense years later when he himself becomes a parent with his kid asking all about the meaning of life when it is in fact just: "You and I". Sometimes things your parents or mentors say make a lot more sense when you're the one in the driver's seat.

I really like youtube for a lot of reasons. One of them is because I can simply plug in my favorites and let'er rip. For the longest time I forgot all about this one-man-band called Five for Fighting that my sister, Jenna, and I loved. She was my only sibling and I lost her last year to a disease called ALS ("Lou Gehrig's Disease"). Anyway, one day when we were in our late teens/early twenties, long before kids, careers, or deadly diseases, we were driving somewhere together in her old beater and it came on and we started singing. When we realized that we both knew every word, we kinda looked at each other and grinned. Jenn reached over and ranked up the radio and we sang our hearts out. No idea where we were going or why, but I had forgotten it completely until I accidentally stumbled across it on youtube. Even then, I only had a vague recollection of it meaning something to me at some point in my life. So I mashed the "go" button. By the time the song was over, I was sobbing my heart out and laughing my head off because I can so clearly remember her singing her heart out with me that day and I just hope and pray that she's up there, singing her heart out with me still. Thank God none of us can hear her (mood-lightening statement).

There was a man back in '95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
Wait, what's the sense in life?
Come over me, come over me
    He said
Son, why you gotta sing that tune?
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see, you will see
    Then he said
    Here's a riddle for you
    Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
    You and I
Picked up my kid from school today
Did you learn anything 'causin' the world today
You can't live in a castle far away
Now talk to me, come talk to me
    He said
Dad, I'm big, but we're smaller than small
In the scheme of things, well, we're nothing at all
Still every mother's child sings a lonely song
So play with me, come play with me
    And, hey, dad
    Here's a riddle for you
    Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
    You and I
    I said
Son, for all I've told you
When you get right down to the
    Reason for the world
    Who am I?
There are secrets that we still have left to find
There have been mysteries from the beginning of time
There are answers we're not wise enough to see
    He said
    You looking for a clue
    I love you free
The batter swings and the summer flies
As I look into my angel's eyes
A song plays on while the moon is high over me
    Something comes over me
    I guess we're big, and I guess we're small
If you think about it, man, you know we got it all
'Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball
    And I love you free
    I love you freely
    Here's a riddle for you
    Find the answer
There's a reason for the world
    You and I

But it's good to know there are other people who have the sensitivity and good taste to appreciate his music. Such melancholy in his songs as well as your post. Deep thinkers/feelers are being starved to death in today's pop music world. I hope you appreciate your family and life as it is today. 20 years from now you will remember it differently (better) than you do today. God Bless.

I was 6 living in my home state of Florida when this came out. This song always came on, on the radio. I remember we went to the beach around the afternoon to watch the sunset one day, me and my family were just staring when the song came on, on the radio we brought. We all just sang along, and I remember otheres coming to join. Think like a bonfire with a lot of people, expect there's no fire. Just peeps coming together and singing. *Sigh* good times. Ill always remember that day, and this song.😊💓✌

Talent like his is always recognized by smart people with musicality like you and your friends on the beach. Too bad today's music executives seem only to be interested in $$ and getting laid by the acts they sign.

This song rocks even though I miss hearing it on the radio. Such fond memories! My mom suggested that we were going to play this song from 16 years ago for my grandfather's funeral, but we didn't have much time to get the equipment ready for a slideshow presentation as a way to do a tribute to a family member who died from prostate cancer complications. In fact, I added it to my "Father's Day melodies" and my "Upbeat Travel songs 3" playlists that I made on Spotify. It has also been added to my "Travel songs with bouncy qualities" playlist that I also made on iTunes. My mom loves this song so much. Thank you for thinking of her. 👍🏻 if you're listening to my cousin's 12th birthday song idea during quarantine.

The only thing better than the band is the piano playing lead singer.
Seriously, nobody has rocked a piano like this since Elton 50 years ago.
And the accompanying band is just awesome too.

Anybody else out there got a kick ass son who you feel blessed to have? I do! He has recently been diagnosed with some health challenges and whilst he is hitting 20 in May and has his girlfriend to be beside him through it, he will always be my boy.
I'm a single mum, it was always just my son and I until we welcomed his love of his life into our tiny family which consists of well, just, he and I as everyone else has passed away this last 3 years which has been horrendous.
Every night we had a set list of songs when he was a toddler that I'd sing to him until he went to sleep. This was one of his favs. We would change dad lyric to mum ❤
I am so proud of my son. He is more like my best mate at times and has seen me go through all kinds of hell yet he hasn't crumbled or bailed on me. He is a musician since he had to give up work for the time being. He busks when he can and teaches local kids the basics. He is self taught on guitar, classical, acoustic and electric, he plays piano, uke, banjo, currently learning violin too and practising his singing. He is amazing. So talented. Can turn his hand to anything. I see him in a band in the future. I'm so proud.
We have both been shown that life is precious. I fought for life for a couple of years and only in January my son too developed sepsis and was fighting for life. I have watched so much suffering this last 3 years and lost people I thought loved and respected me but I was beytrayed, so these days I shut down, but my son every day no matter what he is going through tells me everything will be OK and I'm deserving of love and trust. He really is wise beyond his years and I'm writing here so i can share a bit of our story with others.
This song brings back deep rooted happy memories holding my boy in my arms as he went asleep to me singing this.
I wish for anybody reading this a happy life and if times are hard just know there are others out there like myself who understand. Just keep strong and be kind to all you meet ❤️ *THERE'S A REASON FOR THE WORLD... YOU AND I! * ❤
