  • Angle of Attack (AOA) is one of the most confusing, non-intuitive, and misunderstood variables in wingsuit aerodynamics. It's also one of the most important to understand correctly, if you want to stay alive in the wingsuit BASE environment. In this lecture, we explore the What, Why and How of Angle of Attack. Fly smarter, not harder!

Is there a possibility that producing dimples on the helmet (similar to a golf ball) could delay flow separation and be especially helpful in those High AoA situations?

Three Parachutes is good enough to survive even if all three fail.
What happens when I jump out holding a flag that's FUUUUCKKKIIINNNGGGGGG MASSIIIVVVEEE?
Or a Mile long piece of 3 foot wide fabric?
Does it really have to be a parachute?
can we make fabric, Absorb wind? Or even, Repel wind? Or in other words, Increase or decrese the resistance of wind with electricity?
So I can change the viscosity of wind?
Make it harder or easier to flow through?
Or even absorb it as a source of power? The better the tech the more efficient the tech, the more a gust of wind, will be absorbed into you, heating you, instead of Cooling you to much
Or Cooling you, instead of heating you to much
    MmM?
Or how about, creating drips of water in a bottle?

Why aren't we using real wing feathers?
Birds lose them all the time?
Owl wings are designed for near silent flight and I want a suit that can just get me down to like... 120 kmh
90 would be nice 60 would be fantastic
Even if I put a skid plate on my face, chest, and knees lmfaooo
The small but light suit needs to be able to "bubble gum"
    When you want to land
Watch birds attack pray from above with speed.

guys its very simple... this is a classic case of flux using reynolds transport theorem.. Like cmon skydivers havent you taken fluid mechanics before?

AOA had some thing to do with lift and drag yes.
If you are familiar with the humpback whale and the bumps that cover their leading edges, you might know that this enables stuck a huge animal to perform such right turns in the way they feed. I built a sailboat and epoxied lumps over the keel and forefoot.
There is an outfit called whales power who work with this and Amnesiacs Cup boats use the bumps on the foils.
    Less drag. More lift.
    It works .
    Something different to think about.

I have as thought . . . to slow down wing suit flight, would it make sense to have a second wing above the flyer, similar to a rectangular chute, but much smaller? Sort of a biplane concept . . . obviously this makes things more complicated, how does the main work with this, etc.,

I don't want to fly, I want to easily survive dropping off a building.
I want a wing suit, that looks like Angle Wings, Fucked Owl Wings, that would also act as a Shelter, and Coat.

Fantastic video and great lecture! Learned so much about Wingsuit, which seems to apply to airplane as well. At around 10:36, the AOA = 65 not 75, a good test to see whether we, the students, are paying attention (to the math) or sleeping in the class :)

Then land? with body armour lmfao
Which would just be like, Kevlar layers

Flying will come when you find the right weather, and the right conditions, both environmentally, and spiritually, and physically, and mentally.

Is there any chance you publish the slides? I think this is a very good topic for bad weather days in my first flight courses.

This is a good video, but I was unable to get an answer to a query in my mind. Which is, at what AOA does one need to be flying to hit the highest speed? Case in point, Fraser Corsan who still holds the World Record for highest speed did not necessarily fly at 0° to have the least minimal drag, so what was his AOA?

Would be curious to learn how you use your control surfaces to change your angle of attack. How does a wingsuit pilot affect their angle of attack?

    • @rolandbruegger4482
      @rolandbruegger4482 6 лет назад +1

With the arm wings. Taking more of the arm wings in or back makes the flight steeper, reducing the angle of attack. Dihedral wing position.
Vs Neutral or Anhedral arm wing position, which increases the angle of attack.
      Link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihedral_(aeronautics)#Anhedral

the term "angle of attack" should be taken out of all non power flight applications. Any real pilots would agree.
