Cheers for getting a review out on this, thinking of getting it soon.
It's worth the upgrade.
Cheers, and thanks for all your hard work

@@therealshanelee awesome review 📼
great new video as always Shane can’t wait to pick them up in the next 2 weeks here in Australia universal always do a great job with remastering some of their great classic movies with jaws and et and others
Will pick up from JB when they have a 20% off (if they don't exclude Box sets from the sale) which should take it down to $71.20 which makes them about 23.73 a movie
I bet you’re getting hyped for the Lord of the Rings franchise on 4K! 😄
Yes , especialy becouse Lotr Bd releases wasn't very good , rather average .
I am
It will be EE LOTR 4k, right? :D
@@crush41gb both will be included in the 4k set, regular and extended
Pretty sure they rendered those films at 2k so, not great.
Been waiting for this one! Thanks!
I have this set pre-ordered, Can't wait to get my hands on this!! Great early review shane!
me too
and i see u on the flick pick films ant home and a bunch of physical media channels
@@holmeskid101 yup, I make unboxing and collection videos
Nice review Shane. Very excited to get Back To The Future and the entire BTTF Trilogy on 4K UHD Blu-Ray Disc on October 20th. Another BTTF release with some DNR problems but good to hear on the 4K it's not as heavy as it was on the old blu-ray transfers as was the case with the 2010 release.
Thanks for the detailed review. Great job 👍
Been waiting for this one! Thought it would have been a little better but guess I’ll have to wait and see how it looks on my setup
I watched the Trilogy for the first time two years ago. The first two movies especially held up really well!
I feel like HDR suffers the same problem that 3D did when it was around: it either A) looks natural, so you barely notice it, or B) They've made it really noticeable, and it's distracting.
However the one difference 4K HDR has is that it's not nearly as expensive to get a 4K TV, 4K HDMI, and 4K Blu-Ray player, as it was (and still is) to get a 3D TV. 3D TVs are so stupid expensive that you don't even have to ask "how expensive are 3D Blu-Ray players" or "how expensive are 3D Blu-Rays" to say "yeah this is too expensive."
Already pre-ordered steelbook set. The music will be incredible.
Haven’t seen this in a while so I’ll pick it up
This is my kind of trilogy box set happy 35th anniversary (1985-2020)
This is my all time favorite movie and trilogy. I couldn't hit pre-order fast enough when it was announced. Getting the Best Buy steelbook and Amazon hoverboard edition. Do you plan on doing reviews on the other 2 sequels?
Can I use pair of polk CSI A4 center channel as surround speakers or main front left and right??? My intention is to have equal sound should come from all channels..
I can’t wait to add this set my collection
I'm sure this will look insane on my OLED. Good review!
@Travis Clark Same here, the atmos mix is going to be the icing on the cake!
Yes i have an OLED also and i cant wait
One of my favorite movies of all time!!
Its hard to argue that its one of the best movies ever!
Yeah, it’s one of those perfect movies.
If u have the bluray release is it the same or should I buy the 4k release
Could somebody kindly please let me know if the 1080p Blu-rays in this set are region free or not as I wish to import the US version. Thanks.
I love your reviews because I don’t need your opinion on the movie or script just the transfer , light and tight.👊🏽
Why was this review taken down almost 2 weeks ago?
Copyright Most Likely
I saw you uploaded this a week ago but took it straight down?
Thanks Shane. Holla from Germany
Man I can't wait for this
Are you going to do the other 2? I would hope the train scene would sound Amazing!
Sunday
Hi man, the audio on the blu ray was not really good, some kind of echo all the time on the center Channel. Is it the same here ?
Now this have Dolby Atmos, man
Is the DNR better than the previous Blu-Ray? It looks like it from the preview footage.
It's a good upgrade.
Haven’t watched these since I was a kid. And I don’t own it so I’ll pick it up after Christmas
What?
Thanks for the review, already have this pre ordered since I'm a huge fan of these films. How are the brightness levels? Does it seem like it's true HDR with good peak brightness? Some 4K blu-rays lately have come out with SDR level of peak brightness.
Its a trash HDR grading and looks redish
You have to remember that not all film stock and cinematography will showcase HDR to its fullest, and pushing the grade too far will blow out the highlights.
@@dan_hitchman007 nope this is not a new scan it's the 2002 transfer
@@elsheddars3918 This release is indeed sourced from a newer 4k scan of the original negatives. The old Blu-ray was based off an old scan.
@@dan_hitchman007 The Last Jedi and The Matrix were both filmed in 35mm. Meanwhile, The Last Jedi 4K blu-ray maxes out at 250 nits while The Matrix goes beyond 1000 nits. The Last Jedi is basically fake HDR with SDR level of peak brightness. That's why I ask about this blu-ray.
Not sure why but I keep flipping back and forth between this and my old version and I find the new 4k to be darker and warmer.
How do you get that dolby atmos overlay in 2:41? thanks!
There's a video on channel showing.
“You’re going to see some serious shit.”
Lol
Is there some legal reason why the logo is covering the movie clips?
Trying to stop RUclips from automatically blocking it.
This will look great beside my 25th anniversary edition trilogy...especially since I lost one of the discs
How did you monitor the atmos movings?
ruclips.net/video/CBqWYrOMxcY/видео.html
Shane: Have you seen it?
Me: *check my preorder* This shit doesn’t come out for another 10 days. How is anyone gonna watch the new 4k? 🤣
Guess you'll have to come back when you have it 😁
You have to use a time machine.
@@therealshanelee 😎
how did you get a copy 10 days before the release date?
A review copy.
@@dan_hitchman007 Dan who? the question was direct to Shane @ SpareChange
What about part 2&3 ?
I own the trilogy set on blu-ray and open first viewing I was mesmerized by the quality compared with the Dvds I had rented a while back
The comparisons between the Blu-ray and the 4k show that the Blu-ray was not very well done. Yes, there is some DNR present, but it's nothing like Grease or Batman Begins.
Would you recommend upgrading to this from DVD?
Do it
@@therealshanelee Thank you
I wish we could see the film grain
Have we seen it? Doesn't this release until October 21st? That's still a week away...
He reviewed it so I think he's seen it. He get movies ,pre screeners from the studios .
Can you review the _Inside Out_ 4K Blu-ray next?
well i just compared with the opening scene that universal upload in 4k here, comparing with the original blu ray...and well is not worth it for me. the previous blu ray included some artificial sharpness and the 4k version doesnt have that which is good, but the film looks soft, like soft optics or some kind of DNR applied to the 4k version.
im gonna cancel my preorder until i see some screencaptures on caps a holic
It's a nice upgrade, not the tip topiest and you have to consider the film stock used as well. It's mid 80's stuff that wasn't the best.
@@dan_hitchman007 Well, some homemovie shot in 16mm looks better, they have this huge cameras, expensive equipment, movies cost millions of dollars and they dont get far more as 2k out of it? We all know they cheat a lot tso sqezze as much money out of customers, they often deliver a very bad quality for very much money. So I am no sure they really did their best and rescanned at 4K ... you never trust someone who lied before ...
My favorite movie of all time!
No reviews of the other two or were you only given the first?. . . Mm i was expecting a much more grainy look with more natural colours over the 1080p. DNR was not what i was exoecting here. I thought the.blu ray looked pretty good though contrast and colour ran a little too hot at times for my liking.
If I remember correctly, the first blu ray had a touch of DNR for the first film and the rest had less. Generally concensus was to try and even out the PQ across the range as the 2nd were naturally much better looking.
Huge back to the future fan Marty McFly: Wait a minute. Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean?
Dr. Emmett Brown: The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some *style?*
🥳
Back To The Future 4K is not even released yet! How did you get a hold of copy, so early?
RUclips reviewers and professional review websites get a copy prior to official release. Been happening for years
@@benpascall4297 professional review websites. What a joke! Anybody who's got a camera and an outlet can review anything. Everyone thinks there they are an expert. Sound like a way to get free stuff.
Sure - well all you have to do now, is get yourself a camera, some editing and thousands of RUclips followers (Spare Change has nearly 60,000 followers) as well as thousands of hits for each video like SpareChange and spend hours a week putting out review videos and you’re good to go. Simple.
@Ben Pascall hahaha, you shut Patrick up pretty quick.
Ok so the gift set will have Dolby Atmos?
@bulls on parade ok great 👍
Just orderin my newcopy
Wait!!! is it out already?????
Next week.
Why the huge logo over the picture of the film 🤔
Probably copyright reasons
Hey..... that not fair. Lol. How do you get them before they release?
... because he’s a well known online reviewer and they get sent copies to review by the studios.
@@benpascall4297 makes sense. Thanks
I got it today and it seems that the movie is too dark in Dolby vision
It probably is a combination of your display's capabilities and how it was calibrated (or not).
Is it fake HDR,?
Where is the box?
This is an audio and video review not a box review.
@@therealshanelee
There is no magic ;)
How are you reviewing this? It’s not even out yet..
RUclips and professional review sites get a copy to review before general release. Simple.
Do I need to buy a completely different TV and DVD player to watch this? Or can I use my Blu-ray player
I preordered the best buy steelbook set and can't wait to watch it but I just purchased what I thought would be a nice upgrade sony 4k 800 player and every single 4k disc I played after the 15 minute mark would freeze and I would then have to unplug it and turn it back on. I took it back to best buy got refunded 275 dollars and dont know of im sold on 4k anymore I still have my Sony bluray player from 2011 and its like a tank and hasn't missed a beat and this new 4k player I bought weighed a ton and was very sturdy so I thought money well spent. Man Was I dead wrong.
Not sure if you are still into 4K blu-rays, but if you haven’t get a Panasonic 4K player and you won’t regret it. Those don’t suffer from the freeze problems the Sony playera have
When I first put this on I was initially diapointed. The beginning (at Doc's empty house) is really noisy and grainy and looks like a bad blue ray, but it gets better as time goes on. generally the exterior scenes are better than the interior, but it never goes back to being quite as bad as the start. This is not the first time I've noticed something like this. Hunt for Red October the beginning is also noisy and grainy and frankly there's little to no difference from the blu ray, but it gets better after that point and you do marvel at what they can do with old movies. The only really disspointing one for me atm is Spiderman 2 (dont have 1 or 3 so can't comment), the OG Raimi one. Love the movie, but for me the picture is really dissapointing and one where it does not get better, for whatever reason. Shame as it's one of my favourite films...
I think 4K movies always seem to look better exteriorly. The outside pictures always look better.
The only 4k blu ray I have to have.
The Lord of the Rings (Theatrical + Extended on separate discs in the same pack) is coming December 1st. Supervised by Peter Jackson at WETA from the original 35mm elements in 4k. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision are included.
Worth every penny.
Wait you have the logo on the picture during the film
Yes I do
Let me guess you are the ass that voted thumbs down....jerk
@@enderrobinson5556 Wow the irony of you calling someone else a douchebag. Buy mirror.

Wait a minute! You wrote a comment in the comment section.
i don't understand . You give it 8 and said upgrade over blu ray but early in video you said was a really good blu ray not 4k detail.
There's HDR in this too. The regular blu-ray doesn't have that.
@@therealshanelee But you said HDR doesn't really add much to it. Couple scenes . I really believe part 2 is really going to blow the roof off.
Have you ever had an issue with a bad 4k disc, when everyone else says how great theirs looks? Lol my regular blu ray of back to the future looks waaaaay better than my 4k version. So much so that I cant watch the 4k version at all lol so I was thinking something was wrong with my 4k disc, especially after watching and reading reviews about the quality. Xmen Apocalypse 4k. Its one of my favorite movies but my dark phoenix 4k looks so much better than my Apocalypse 4k. I watched your review of Apocalypse and of dark phoenix and my experience was the opposite.....so im thinking I got a bad Apocalypse 4k and bad back to the future trilogy 4k lol

I Can watch this movie at 240p and still enjoy it.
You need to bring back Shawn to talk smack whenever you review a prepro not made by Trinnov.
Shawn: You really think you can be happier than the Trinnov made you?
Honestly I was expecting a bigger upgrade for such a beloved title.
If you compare shots, the 4k is an improvement. There is noticeable detail improvement in quite a few shots and you notice how poorly the Blu-ray was encoded as well with ugly macroblocking in some fast motion scenes.
Best movies ever ☺️
Blu-ray.com gave this a solid review all around...better than what you’ve given it
Didn't think a rating in the 8's was mediocre. Plus what do those guys use for review equipment?
@@therealshanelee no clue what they use to be honest! I’m not saying an 8 is bad though
@@chrisman2500 I don't think they disclose their review equipment. So why listen???
@@therealshanelee because I’m your average guy with just a regular set up and trust their write ups
@@chrisman2500 ok I guess that makes sense. It shouldn't matter what equipment they use I suppose.
"Back to the Future" is a very smart film that benefits from likeable characters and an insightful screenplay. Michael J. Fox accidently goes back to 1955 in a DeLorean that has been turned into a time machine by the wacky Christopher Lloyd. Now Fox must bring his parents together after he inadvertently changes the future. It is not quite as complicated as it sounds. The film is great fun that seems brand new 15 years later. 4kmovies co
Great review Shane. For me its a pass. I will go with the Blu ray trilogy boxset.
The Blu-ray is terrible. Even though the 4k version is not the absolute best out there, it is indeed noticeably better than the Blu-ray. Plus the audio has been improved.
Yea think ima pass for now and wait for a dramatic price drop. I already have the 1080p Blu-ray set.
Me too
REVIEW 300 ON 4K.
I don’t expect much from movies that were not originally shot with a 4K or 8k camera so with that in mind you can’t criticize a film that was filmed Pre-4K.
Just go and watch Lawrence of Arabia, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now on the 4K BR and that will blow you away.
@@ark9515 They might be smooth they might be upscaled to 4K but I’m talking about an original crisp 4K or 8 K recorded movie, that’s what I’m talking about. Not upscaled smoothness, but Crisp and clear image I.e. 1917 and the revenant
@@ToxMod You didn't get my point. The transfer on the films I mentioned above are absolutely spectacular that will blow you away. They can be at times be easily mistaken for a movie that was shot several years ago. The end result should be satisfying that is what is most important. If the films I mentioned above look so good why can't BTTF?
@@ark9515 No my friend you are not getting the point there is a big difference when the movie is shot with a 4K camera or 8 k camera originally.I get that you fell in love with the movie list that you left me but it’s upscaled 4K it’s not true 4K !! You’re just a victim of circumstance, These companies making 4K Upscaled movie remakes Only care about one thing getting your money, hopefully you get that point
@@ToxMod 35 mm digital equivalence is actually 4K. 70mm is 8K.
Gradually with everything going from bad to worse and today even the options of a blue ray player is limited. So 4k as it is a failure. Seems physical media which actually is the best in any format is dying except vinyal record. So hope it make a comeback
You didn't talk about the special features at all. The title should be "Back To The Future 4K Transfer Quality Review"
It’s explained at the very beginning what this video is about.
Its the same 2002 master with DNR and bad HDR grading, and upscaled, not a new scan in 4K, shame on you Universal, search the KK650 regraded version with no DNR and laserdisc audio is the best you can get now :,)
whaaaa! no way!
This guy is crazy i just watched part I tonight and it looks way better than a very good blu ray my friend!. There's no way that even the best of a 1080p could ever get near to looking like this
How big is your TV?
@@therealshanelee 65'
@@ethanberry9846 I’ve got a 125” everything looks better on a little 65”. Just saying.
@@therealshanelee i dont get what you are saying. So it looks like a 4k on a 65' though on a 125' it looks like a very good blu ray?
**If 4k=4,000p ÷ 1080p= 3.7037037037037*** then 4k is better than 1080 by 2.703=(3xbetter)
From a 4k disc source Resolution
And then at a 65" display its 2.7037037037037 better than a 1080p blu-ray but if it is at a 125" display its 1.2032032032032 better than a 1080p (blu-ray resolution CLARITY). Which is still 2X better than 1080p at 125".
And den....
If 720p stops at 46" for resolution bump and 1080p stops at 90" that's a 44inch screen increase and 1080p is 2x 720p and den...4k is 3x 1080p that means a max screen size within a good range for a true 4k non scale release would be 156".
Best version is old full screen DVD :)
You're on drugs.
@@dan_hitchman007 no, You are?
Look at screen shot comparisons... it's more than a little improvement. Is it the best 4k disc Universal has ever done... no. But it makes the old Blu-ray look like dog crap.
i never believe the maketing bullshit anymore from studios about there 4K blu-rays, this has not had a new atmos mix done to it, its a digital AI upmix like lots of other films thats why some films with Atmos mixes are crap, because they don't want spend the money on a full remix, also why some films only have a DTS HD MA mix, and the fact they dont want to pay for music again, like "flash gordon" nuff said.
No no no
Would be nice to clearly SEE the clips without the gigantic "Bacj to the Future" logo on top. Thumbs down.

A bit disappointing. I watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago on Netflix. Glad I didn't wait to buy the disc.
This is much better than what's on Netflix.
@@therealshanelee Oh I'm sure it is. But for me, it didn't seem like the disc was worth buying for me given what my willingness to pay threshold is for buying discs. In that sense, your review did what it's supposed to do.
For example, "really good blu ray levels of detail" and only really sharp for a few scenes is not worth spending the money on for me.
