    Widget seem to become exited when you were preparing for the second session. I think that's why she tried to follow you- in case it was part of the training. It's like she get a kick out of figuring you out.

    • @Ansonidak

      I think 'figuring you out' is a game for them - learning to work the system. My green cheek has gotten quite good at anticipating what I'm going to ask him to do. Also certain behaviors will often earn a treat even if I didn't ask him to do it, because it's a behavior I want to encourage.

    I taught my cockatiel to spin in under a minute, I'm not sure how he picked it up so fast. On the other hand, it took him 10+ training sessions to learn how to flip upside down lol

      Birds are pile that sometimes. Once I was fostering 2 pretty timid budgies and I was teaching the to target. I swear I tried it once and they were pretty scared of the stick so I stopped and thought I'd try again tomorrow. I try the next day and one of them just started following the stick I have no idea how it's like he read my mind

    My lil conure must be a savant. Lol. He learns everything so quickly. I've had him 6mths, he'll be a year old next month.. we've learned Wave, wings, shake, spin both ways, lay on back flat or in hand, rollover, 2colors of ring toss so far, quarter in bank/shot glass, find the ace(8cards so far), fetch and or fly ball back to my hand. It's almost cheating, when we have you and Dave as teachers.

    • @BirdTricks
      @BirdTricks  3 года назад +5

      Working with one budgie at a time is what I would recommend. They do learn from observation though so if it is not distracting for the one you are working with the other can be near by observing, which may make the training session with the second one even easier. Not always the case, but you could try it.

    What is a pine nut? Are they healthy for birds?

    • @BirdTricks
      @BirdTricks  3 года назад +3

      A pine nut is a nut that comes from pine trees. They are a healthy nut (actually a seed) that are good to be used as a treat for training but too high in fat to be a part of the daily diet provided in the cage.

    I can't seem to get my train my ringneck to target and she wont like me touch her but she gets on my hands and loves sitting on my shoulder, she wont eat from my hands but will keep staring if I'm getting her apples (dw i remove the seeds), and also she screams whenever I leave to the bathroom, I understand that birds will bond under their comfort and that might take time but I would like some advice on how to move forward with it
    Note: she's scared from letting me touch her but not my hands, like she gets on my hand but wouldn't let me give her head rubs (im starting to think it might be her personality which is totally understandable and fine with me)
    Some more info on her:
    She was born with a bent foot (according to the pet shop owner) but seems to walk pretty normally and actually uses the bent foot to hold her food with, she was extremely scared of any human to come near her that on the first day home she seemed VERRY paranoid of any little thing, she wouldn't leave her cage (I left it open for 3 days in the room until she walked out on her own)
    she was 5 months old when I got her, she's 6 now. A lot has changed and shes very comfortable around me and actually would call for attention when she wants it, otherwise she's always on top of cage jumping around
    Apart from all that she now seems very happy and knows her sleepy time an hour after sundown usually that she goes back in by herself
    Im just lost on how to move forward with getting to the actual turning such as targeting, or stepping up
