I was today years old when I found out Mega Man could do Onslaught's Shockwave after beating the game. 🤯
This game (also X-Men vs. Street Fighter EX Edition) was the one I had during my PS1 days. I never knew their arcade counterparts were different back then, and since I live out in the woods, there was no arcade nearby. So I played this game with joy for hundreds of hours without knowing of their superior versions; dumb kid's good times btw.
i had xmen children of the atom
I picked up a modded Japanese version of the Saga Saturn back in 1998 that could play US games just so I could play the Japanese release of X-men vs street fighter, I still own and sometime play that system and game. The Saturn was the stronger system compared to the PS1.
Same for me. I still have that Saturn + my XMvSF with RAM cart 👍
Agreed
for 2d at least
Better for 2d games...then yes but for everything else the PS1 was a beast when compared with the Saturn
Stronger for 2d only. PSX could do 2d games that ran on 3D engines better; case-in-point Castlevania SOTN.
Ryu had the change ability on the arcade version.... I specifically learned the word mimic from this game because the transformation for Ken was called mimic Ken. Shit I still remember how to get shadow lady lol
As a megaman fan, the path to unlock roll on the character select screen is forever engrained in my memory.
Beat me to it...by 18 hours.
He can do it in the Dreamcast version too.
Also can transfrom into akuma
Can't forget about his secret move shin shoryuken
I can understand they had to remove the tag team function, I can understand they had to make cut backs on graphics and performance, but to turn the HP bar blue?? Now THAT IS an abormination!! 😤
That was what prompted me to get the Sega Dreamcast and the version of the game.
I bought the Saga Saturn and the Dreamcast, for X-men vs Street Fighter and the Marvel vs. Capcom series. I hated the fact that Rouge could not steal moves in the PS1 version of the games and the lack of a tag feature. You don't now pleasure until you've stolen a kiss from an Akuma player with Rogue and then finished them off using the Ragging Demon combo with Rogue!
lol. it aint that big of a deal tho. i kinda liked the blue bars.
@@0errab0 naturally the saturn n dreamcast versions of these marvel vs games were better. cause the hardware was superior in 2D. psx lacked the ram... but for what it is n if playsation is all u had and were desperate to play this at home. its ok. n it had its own neat little exclusives.
blue bars? lol, that shit aint big deal, you took little things fucking serious 💀
They probably could've went about this in other ways, buy most likely it was probably done to help people easily tell the different versions apart.
If they could keep making Sega Saturn games and sell the console again, dedicated to the best 2D visuals. It's life cycle was cut way too soon, it has so much hidden potential
Completely agree! Sega was just so mismanaged at that time that it never had the chance it really deserved both it and and Dreamcast tbh..
I love the 1 V 1 on the playstation. I used to wish part 2 had it in a mode .
Love this game I used to go to the arcade in 2002-2003 just to play this game
What gets me about the PS1 ports of the MvC games is that they could have incorporated a team elimination style mechanic like in SNK's King of Fighters series, rather than having to switch characters on the fly (maybe they can still incorporate character assists).
I had this on my psp and didn't know it was the ex edition until Maximillion talked about this
PSP ver. is a remasterin? 🕹
@@TheAmazingSpider-Dude no. I put the Playstation 1version on my psp
During these times I used to frequent the arcades a lot, but at home my friends always wanted to play these versions of the games especially MSH vs SF and MVC1. I even later got the Dreamcast version of MVC1, but we played the PlayStation version more.
I'member you can do infinite combos in this version
Ryu transforming into Ken & Akuma I’m pretty sure was possible in all versions, both arcade and DC included… maybe I’m mistaken as I don’t play Ryu that much but I clearly remember that and I only played DC and Arcade.
Yup, Ryu could become Ken and Akuma on all MVC1 versions, the Ps1 is more known because of the crazy cancels you can do anyway.
Yes, he could essentially switch to Ken and Akuma's move sets by motioning QCB+P in MvC (MP for Ken, HP for Akuma). I never really liked playing as Ryu by default, but being able to switch modes made him probably the best version of Ryu in a crossover, and he was my main in MvC where I'd have preferred the other two in other crossover games.
The "Change Mode" was present in all versions. The difference is that in PS1 you can start the match already in Gouki or Ken modes.
Just press select+Punch for Gouki mode or start+punch for Ken mode until the battle starts.
In ps1 you can
Wow, I remmebr my cousin giving me this game back in the day but I had no clue at all that it was the EX version!
Any news I get about Marvel vs Capcom is a welcomed one! Played this copy many times and happy to see it getting a video! ❤
4-player CROSS FEVER mode on the Dreamcast version of MVC1 was killer and made Dreamcast the definitive version of the game for me.
“Better than arcade perfect”
It's close to arcade perfect on the DC , but I own it on cps2 as well and there's subtle differences, so no DC port isn't better than the original cps2 system.
@@alexmacias2988 Who you out here frontin for, Alex ? MVC1 is on CPS-2. Do better.
As for WHY it’s “better than arcade perfect” on Dreamcast ? CPS-2 version doesn’t have 4-PLAYER CROSS FEVER mode.
Peace & blessings !
I have all the Ex edition Japanese PSX games 🙂 there's a few, I have them all 🔥 love them all.
Ryu's ability to swith to Ken mode or Akuma mode at the cost of a super bar is nothing new to the PS version, it's in all versions of MVC1, to my knowledge. I did it at the arcade all the time. So it's not even a selling point for the bad port.
Yeah- definitely have this mechanic in the Dreamcast version. My biggest issue with it is that Ryu doesn't just stay as Ken/Akuma when you switch...
Yet there was a way to start a fight as Ken or Akuma without sacrificing a level of the power bar: hold start and medium punch (triangle by default) before the fight starts to play with Ken''s moveset and for Akuma's hold start and hard punch (R1 by default).
I never lied how it took a bar of super to do that. =\
I remember I was in HS at the time. I was always a Sega head and I had gotten both a DreamCast and Saturn to play these VS games. Fun times. A shame Sega didn't have the appeal of the Playstation. However, I remember for X-mas getting these things. Good times.
I'm thinking this is something new but it's actually a game I played a lot of. We were such fans that capcom has released worse versions of a game and we still played it lol love the channel man
Excellent video as always! I chased after a PSX version of this game years ago in the US and it was a little more expensive than it’s DC counterpart, which pushed me to research the DC more and now I have a history with Sega’s final home console release and the Capcom fighting game ports it received. I would later make a PSP Eboot of this game to try it out and it is very interesting and different than the arcade and DC versions indeed!
Ryu switching to ken or akuma can be done on the arcade version as well
Yes: backwards U motion and medium punch gives you Ken's moveset and a backwards U motion and hard punch gives you Akuma's moveset.
yep
This title is my favorite out of all of them!
In Japan we played that xmen v Street fighter arcade like crazy back in 98
Ryu could switch his moveset in the DC version too.
this is one of my fav street fighters game bc it was something i was play once in a while in the laundry with my mom as a kid.
it would be super cool if they had it on mobile
@destroysoloist
Reading this brought a smile to my face. There was an arcade version I would always play in the thrift store that me and my mom would go to when I was a kid.
The Ryu move swap was in the Arcade original as well!
FUN FACT: You can do DHCs in XvSF, and SFvM not just MvC. i have all three for the ps1. Ken doing all three supers looks so cool. Reminds me of Violent Ken in chaos.
I was going to point exactly this. Even funnier, for characters who have only one super combo (like Gambit) you could cancel the same super into itself several times.
Even if a year late, I was looking for this comment. I was sure I could do it in every vs game on PS1.
the Playstation 1 games have unlimited superbar cheats and other options. I can do long combos and infinites. but I enjoy doing screen filling super combos more. in x men vs street fighter the down diagonal forward strong punch and strong kick team super, occasionally it will throw out different combinations of supers in versus. such as Ryu will do his tastumaki kick super instead of shinku hadouken, and the partner does their usual one. super fun, and funny sometimes with the supers that weren't supposed to happen lol
Wow, very cool. Nice find! Who knew!?
Honestly the ps1 version has better mechanics as you can DHC and special cancel, but the tag team really made the game special
Fun fact from MvC PS1: Didn't you know that the Hyper Combo from PS1 edition is very different, for example:
1)When used the Hyper MegaMan at first and Double Hyper Combo 2nd time, the Hyper MegaMan attack is bugging the screen make it more combo counts and damage when used DHC.
2)When you reach Lvl 3,you can used all the supers 1 by 1.(For me it's cool though).
3)You can change your hero partner by pressing ✊✊✊ at the same time while in loading screen.
4)Game bugged by use Duo Handicap by EX partner.
Last) MegaMan's 🧲 Shockwave is GODLIKE damage while enemy in the air.
Actually, all three of the playstation games have the ability to cancel super moves into another super moves (with the background changing colors as you do it). It isn't so much as MvC: EX inspiring MvC2 as it was the entire PS series inspiring that feature in MvC2.
Thank you, I was pretty sure all versions of the PS1 had that function.
I got SFA 1 on PS1 and was happy with that but afterwards I got a saturn and made sure all my capcom games where only bought for that system.
Ryu was able to transform into Ken or Akuma in the arcade/dreamcast port as well. Same input as well
What about some Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX only PSP games in band new 4 characters 2006.
that one was great
Suggestion for next time: Please include a flashing light warning for the next video like this. It may not be the worst, but there is a lot of flashing going on alongside a lot of fast movement.
Is the Ryu in MvC universe the strongest one? With fireballs as big as himself and the rest of his moves enhanced i would imagine it is.
Here's what I always wanted, when it came to all the versus games over the years, relaunched the game, but only has Street fighter characters or relaunch the game, but only have original characters, if not any of that, keep the idea of the over exaggerated supers, when it comes to other Street fighter games.
Unpopular opinion, when you don't compare the vs series to the arcade counter parts and look at them as sequels of Xmen CotA and MSH, they are actually good games, even though you can't tag, you still get to use the partner in counters and they get to assist in supers. While never going to be better than the arcade or saturn counterparts, I didn't think they were bad games, I enjoyed them. That being said, looking forward to the collection coming out.
Like I know these games are popular. But I never seen this much content on youtube before finding MVC2 at a thrift shop 2 weeks ago. Algorithm or Synchronicity?!?
Damn I miss X-Men vs Street Fighter arcade R.I.P MvC infinite
Im sure thats the version I had as bootleg. Now I know for sure it wasn't a glitch characters got bigger during air combo.
I actually enjoyed the sprites getting bigger during air combo.
Too Bad there won't Be game like this Anymore..
I love this one
I didn't know they released this one for Playstation.
What is the difference between the japan EX edition vs USA vs Europe version which are not EX for PS1?
Ree-yu. Not "Rai-yu".
I always thought Marvel vs Capcom 1 was such a letdown, such a major backwards move in quality from the previous 2 games. The main reason for this for me is, the character roster. It's abysmal, it's rubbish, garbage, trash. Children of the Atom or Street Fighter Alpha 2 or even freaking Pocket Fighter has a better roster for it's size. How they managed to go backwards so much on MvsC1 just never made sense. On top of that, the final boss fight of MvsC1 just was annoying to play. It wasn't challenging yet fun like the 3 stages of MvsC2. The 1 cool thing is yea theres some hidden characters and whatnot and lots of cool assists but, damn. Playstation of course, never could do Capcom games justice. Saturn always did an AMAZING job, at porting. Always felt like the arcade version. But at least they tried to do something different here. They tried to do the best they could with what they had so they could sell the game to people who only had a PS1. And hey it's better than if you only had N64 and got absolutely none of these games! I was lucky to have every console ever right when they came out but I realize not everyone grew up like that.
You know what sucks? If Capcom supported the N64 even a little earlier than they did, they could probably have a high-quality port of this game thanks to the console's 2 extra megabytes of ram. Before you call me out for the system's cartridges not being able to hold as much data, just look at the port of RE2 for the console
They would have ported Street Fihhter Alpha 2 as "Street Fighter 64".
I never owned an original PlayStation. But I remember seeing an advert in some stores. I recall some magazines looked at PS1's limits. Bummer it had limitations, given what so many said what it could do.
Hm not tag, but one on one. Nerfed. Just yikes. Can at least say they tried.
Hm always wondered why Sony did not develop an extra RAM card that gave it a boost. I recall Sega Saturn had one, but it was a pricey addition. But essential.
EX= Experimental Edition
Some neat concepts. I remember Max's coverage on what was utilized. So in a way, a + alternative. Even with limitations
Game I would like to see you cover: hmm that's a tough one, you pretty much have
I wanna see you continue with the Guilty Gear Series or begin Blazblue!
I don't understand why the ps1 ram couldn't be upgraded buy a external device like the n64 and Saturn.
Sony didn't think it was worth it. Most games played fine without the extra ram. They didn't think it would have sold well
cuz sony was all about 3D at the time and ya the 2D capabilities of psx was an afterthought. so games like these suffered compared to their saturn ports...
If only the EX Edition had a bigger and better MvC1 roster like Alpha 3 UPPER.
The RUclips premium from me 😂
Nice Usage Of Morrigan on the Thumbnail
Love your shorter videos please!
I have this version on Ps1 Japan and Ps2 Mvc2.. these games are pricey but you got a better chance grabbing the Japan versions for cheaper
Not really a different game I own it I was tricked by the name I thought it was different Aldo before I bought it but it turned out to be the same I bought all of them X-men Vs street fighter marvel super heroes Vs street fighter and marvel Vs capcom for the Japanese PS2 hoping you can maybe tag in your partner like the arcade version but it wasn’t
TopHat what's your favorite--
👉Street Fighter Alpha
👉Alpha 2
👉Kart Fighters
Alpha 2 gold
Guilty gear??
ex editions of those games had hyper cancels
always prefered the 1st mvc over the 2nd
This is like the only one I play...
When you hear Ex you think a better so weird that Arcade surpassed PS1
Even Maxmillian dood loved this version
why does that matter?
max faboyism. lmao. it creeps into every street fighter video somehow.
Someone uses "easy mode, beginner mode, auto block mode" in the video. =p
I will stick to the Saturn Version.
How is it weird just cause it says ex I own the Japanese version also it plays just the same as the U.S version you can’t tag in your partner if you thought it means you can tag in your partner then you wasted your money only the Sega Saturn version can do it PS1 ruined this game but thankfully Dreamcast was here if you don’t own the Dreamcast well you lost your chance of owning the arcade version gameplay the PS1 was just not great console as everyone thought it would be from the beginning Sony is known to be one of the best but I’ll never understand what we’re they thinking when they released their first console they weren’t working very hard the PS2 is their first console the PS1 was a joke I had to buy Japanese games on the Saturn
Big Daddy 😍😍😍
X-Men VS Street Fighter is an awesome game on both consoles , , but the SNES version sucks to high heck , , ,there is a Lot of footage of "X VS SF" in this video , , ,Sega burned bridges with a big chunk of game developers , , , ultimately this killed the DreamCast , , , ironically their biggest Rival ( nintendo ) became their life line and best friend , , , , basically saving Sega company , , ,
Ohh man a lot of talk...... You dont go to de priori........... Pfff
The worst version that didn’t need to exist
This game was complete ASS!!! lol loading screens, no tagging, slow down, animation frames dropped to like 2…. man it’s just ass all around
If MARVELvCAPCOM fights were in Real Life How fast are you grabbin your tickets 🎟?
