    It was frustrating at the time, most fans thought the x-men weren't there because FOX stopped it. They really didn't know X-Men were only film IP rights and had them since the 90's. Then again it was Disney's strategy at the time to try and destroy the X-Men and drive sentiment against FOX for daring to own film rights (A sale which actually saved Marvel comics from going bankrupt in the 90's), even in Marvel comics they had an event killing many of them off. Petty short-sighted greed at its finest.

    • @PitH0und
      @PitH0und 10 месяцев назад

      Everything Disney has been doing for years is short-sighted greed. They are throwing their IPs in the dumpster with movie after movie because the hirer ups at Disney don't care. They didn't make any of these IPs and just want to make as much money as possible while they run these companies into the ground.

      It's ironic because Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Marvel Contest of Champions had Wolverine on the cover and multiple X-Men in the roster. If Capcom waited 6 months maybe Magneto could have returned. I've always brainstormed a Season 2 plot about Avalon vs Final Weapon introducing mutants and more Mega Man characters, but... oh well.

      @Invidente7 This was also the time that Disney/Marvel wanted the Inhumans to replace the X-men. Around this time in the comics, they release the X-men vs Inhuman. They revealed that Terragen Mist (what awakens Inhumans’ power) was poisonous and kills Mutants & was spreading. They also made the X-men the villains in the war and there was other retcons like Scarlet Witch,Quick Sliver,Franklin Richards aren’t Mutants plus there was that awful Inhuman TV Show that was suppose to be a movie.
      Everyone saw through this bs and made Marvel/Disney go back and made it like it never happened.

    You could see how much Disney cared when you look at the collector's edition of the game.
    Besides the game received almost NO marketing.

    To be perfectly fair regarding the favoritism toward reps tie in for MCU: Marvel Vs games in the 90's were filled with Xmen characters for the very reason why Infinite had a lot of characters that were popular due to the MCU. In the 90's, Xmen were all the rage and peaked in absolute popularity, the entire Marvel cast lineup always favored them over everyone else including even the likes of Spiderman. This is why the Xmen always had a significant hold on the Vs titles. Even in Marvel Vs Capcom 2: 18 out of the 28 characters that represented Marvel were from the Xmen comics, and two of which were just variations of Wolverine.

    Despite my issues with Capcom in regard to their franchises, I always give them a pass regarding Marvel since obviously they don’t own the IPs and are subject to their demands. Capcom’s employees are on record as being fans of Marvel ever since Akiman would import and translate comics and pass them around the office, which led to them seeking out the then-cheap Marvel licenses in the mid-90s as they were close to bankruptcy.
    Obviously Capcom couldn’t throw Marvel under the bus, but the “Functions” statement was deservedly lambasted (as well as the “fans don’t know X-Men” statement). A BETTER excuse would be “Marvel’s a company with so many IPs that have yet to be featured in games and this is a chance for them to shine. Unfortunately, not everyone can be used and sacrifices have to be made, but we hope these classic characters will be as well received as the fan favorites have been, just as the Iron Man film boosted Iron Man’s popularity.” See? Ain’t hard to do without trashing things.
    One last piece of hilarity, in Matt Leone’s Like A Hurricane: An Unofficial Oral History of Street Fighter II, former Capcom USA employee Alex Jimenez admits to advising Capcom not to pursue the Dragon Ball license because it would not be popular in the West (this was 1993), and that it would be like making a Spider-Man or X-Men game, which likely wouldn’t sell well outside of where it was popular (and global popularity was key in their strategy).

    It upsets me how Disney can ruin something so good and YET, they had the gall to blame Capcom for it's failure.
    Thing is, I preodered Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite because I was hoping that the game would be good. It was good. Don't get me wrong. The gameplay was absolutely solid. The problem was the roster and sure, there was some good ones but the Marvel side of the roster focused more towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were multiple reasons for it's failure.
    The first was the roster, especially on the Marvel side. Many of the characters are those that were in the MCU. Some were new and interesting but the rest were just okay. The Capcom side was acceptable but it could have been better. There was going to be DLC for it where more characters were added but it was scrapped due to the game failing.
    The second was the bitter rivalry between Disney and FOX over the film licenses. Previous entries had characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four (Super Skrull). And Disney, realizing that if the X-Men was added, it would be promotion for Fox. So they meddled and had the roster changed so that FOX wouldn't get any promotion whatsoever. That hurt the game.
    The third was... Dragon Ball FighterZ. That game, developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco had a familiar yet awesome roster along with gameplay similar to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3. People flocked to that game and I was one of them. As a result, MvC:I suffered and suffered hard.
    It was such a failure that Disney/Marvel and Capcom blamed each other for the game's failure. Honestly, both are to blame. Disney/Marvel because of their meddling and obsession with the McU and Capcom for not putting enough of an effort to make the game any better. Hell, you can't even stream the game directly via PS4/PS5 because the story mode was just outright blocked. You know it's bad when that happens.
    I said my two cents. I reviewed it and gave it a 5 out of 10. A game that could have been great but it's potential was wasted. Well done THGM. #Liked

    FUN FACT the xmen could've been in the mcu as early captain America winter soldier but marvel studios shot themselves in the foot by adding scarlet witch and quicksilver in the end credits because at the time marvel and fox were in negotiations to sell marvel the xmen but then they saw what marvel did and ended negotiations

    The one thing I hated about Disney was that it was trying to make everything about the infinity stones and everything had to follow like marvel vs capcom infinite and ultimate alliance 3 where they just felt like cash grabs because of mainstream movies. And the moment Marvel's avengers, Guardians and even Midnight suns came out they were treated as garbage because they were not based off of the infinity stones.

    Just imagine a new MVC game simply just titled "Marvel vs. Capcom" powered by RE Engine with new gameplay mechanics & features & featuring rosters like Ryu, Chun-Li, Leon Kennedy, Megaman, Nero, Morrigan, Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Spider-man, Cyclops & Psylocke. I'm so down with Capcom if they reboot MvC.
    PS: In reality, Disney wouldn't want that because they hate success & busy destroying whatever's left of Walt Disney, Stan Lee & George Lucas's legacy.

    • @artofajax7199

      The decision to not include Japanese voiceover (at least for the Capcom side) is particularly odd to me considering that the game was developed in Japan.
      If anything, it proves that Infinite’s time and budget constraints only allowed for one round of voice acting, and English was chosen since the MVC series is more popular in America.

    Infinite is a game I have a very conflicted relationship with. On one hand, there's a lot of things it does wrong. The bland visuals (minus some pretty good particle effects courtesy of Unreal Engine 4), ho-hum character roster and undercooked story mode have been nagged on to death, and for good reason. I feel like a lot of people don't nag on the sound design enough, namely the lack of a satisfying "oomph" that comes with landing your attacks. The voice direction also applies to this, since characters either sound tired/worn out (Spencer, Chris, Iron Man, Hulk being examples) or are trying WAY too hard to the point where it sounds like they're straining themselves (Particularly Morrigan, Captain Marvel, Nova, and Dante). Obviously, I mean no disrespect to the VA's or the director since I'm sure they did their best with what they were given.
    Yet at the same time, there's a lot of things I really like about Infinite; namely the tag system. There's something uniquely satisfying about the way it works, and how you can maximize synergy between both characters. I personally always found high-level matches of Infinite to be more fun to watch than UMVC3 (shocking, I know). The Infinity Stones are also a neat mechanic that lets you approach fights in different ways (e.g. using Reality Stone to give a grappler character some range, or using Space Stone to lure opponents into traps/mixups). While not perfect, I think it's a great way to allow for some experimentation and depth to the core gameplay.
    The few newcomers we got in Infinite deserve a shout-out as well because I found them to be really fun to watch and play as. Mega Man X was the fan-favorite who finally got his chance to shine here; being a unique take on a fundies/shoto character with an onslaught of projectile attacks. Jedah Dohma was a welcomed inclusion with some sick mixups, and an EXCELLENT portrayal by the legendary David Kaye (One of the few truly great voice performances in this game, alongside Chris Tergliafera as Sigma and Scott Porter as Winter Soldier). Gamora is one of my favorite rushdown characters in any fighting game ever thanks to her "Arc-Gun" loops and mobility, and the list goes on and on. I could talk about the newcomers all day (even the DLC fighters, which were all great even if it ended up making the roster lopsided), but yeah, it's great. There's a reason why a lot of people are taking the time to mod these characters into UMVC3 (they did so with Ultron, X, Captain Marvel, and Monster Hunter if i recall correctly), so I hope they come back in a future installment.
    But to make a long ramble short, that's just how I feel with this game. It's got problems; big ones that harmed its chances of becoming something legendary, but I feel like people should revisit this one for what it does right.

    • @NovaBlazerZX
      @NovaBlazerZX 9 месяцев назад +1

      I'm with you. I love the tag system in the game so so much. You can make so many unique combos with your preferred tag partner. It's just fun to lab. I think the stones were a neat idea, but could've been better implemented and given more unique mechanics to buff certain characters, or at least make type buffs a thing.
      I love the inclusion of X and Sigma, as a Zero fan. Ultron is my favorite Marvel villain. There were even cool inclusions like Venom returning, Jedah, and Monster Hunter.

    Yeah I was BIG letdown by the premature cancellation of MvCI. The classic costume dlc skins look great, especially being able to turn insufferable Capt Marvel into Miss Marvel 👍👍. The game was just missing too many classic characters.... the X-Men cast + Fantastic Four characters. Dr Doom is massively popular and MvC3 had Super Skrull. Would have been badass to finally have the F4 main cast in an MvC game! Disney was already in the process of acquiring Fox in 2017, so their decisions on this game's roster are complete trash. They also made Capcom pay 75% of the dev cost while controlling 50% of the roster.... I HATE Disney 😬👎

    Funny thing is, I thought Capcoms Roster was the garbage side, I could at least see why Disney wanted the cast on their side for MvCI, they weren't selling XMen and FF movies, so for them to attempt to cut them in favor of Black Panther and others was fair, but there were a lot of injustices here. A Starlord character that played a lot like Captain Commando, summoning the other guardians, would have been a perfect.
    I know a lot of games do DLC packs that we know of before the games release, but to have these characters show up in game? It didn't sit well with me. Sigma and Black Panther should have been playable day 1 as an example.
    Capcom to essentially copy paste some of the worst ugliest characters on their side, like Nemesis and Firebrand, when they could have and actual characters. On top of that, when you do just Copy and Paste cast members and their moves? You SHOULDN'T have a smaller roster than the last game. At least with Mortal Kombat, they change the entire way a character plays in between games, but here, all returning characters were just the same as they were in MvC3, so why was the cast smaller? And not just smaller, A LOT SMALLER.
    The comments made to defend the exclusion of the characters we loved though, was the main reason why I didn't buy the game. Characters are not just "Functions".
