@@MoneyHoneyBunny PC. Capcom has the game on sale quite often, so if you catch it, the unmodified game itself is like $8USD. The files to modify it are easily found online, but it's only for PC.
@@discmanthecdlord I literally never knew this was on PC lmao. After seeing this video i looked on steam and YUP! Got it for like 8 bucks cause of the sale, and I already got it on 360 and ps vita but, cant mod those!
With the later games, it felt like so many of the Capcom reps were from games and series already popular in the West. I loved playing characters like Jin back in MvC2. It's baffling that they never had a rep from Breath of Fire, Sengoku Basara, Power Stone, Monster Hunter, or Onimusha! I was amazed to see Amaterasu make the cut, honestly.
@@mythosinfinite6736While I agree with the lack of Megaman being a sin, I don't see why people downplay Zero and Tron being there as bad representation to the series, both are popular main characters of their respective games and veterans to the VS series as well, not a good comparison imo.
Zero's win quote about X not being here becomes even more assholish when he's dressed up as X, despite Zero not needing *any* help in that department. (Tron meanwhile is fine...outside of unfortunately being awful mechanically. Still not sure how you actually fix her though.)
It's funny how Megaman X was number one on Capcom's own poll for most wanted character in UMVC3, but when asked why X wasn't in the game Capcom lied to the fans and said that there wasn't enough interest in Megaman X EVEN THOUGH HE WAS NUMBER ONE IN THEIR OWN DAMN POLL.
Alright, some things to comment, since I made my own research on all these rejected characters: 1.- There was never a choice between Sentinel and Juggernaut. What happens is that Niitsuma said in an interview (from CAW Evolution) that his team couldn't use characters that Marvel wouldn't allow, and he used those two characters as examples of it. It was from before Sentinel was announced for the game, so it wasn't a matter of choosing between one and the other. 2.- It *was* Rouge from Power Stone who got rejected for age rating issues, not Rogue. It makes even more sense in context as Niitsuma only mentioned Capcom characters in that thread where he said the whole "we considered over 150 female characters". 3.- Monster Hunter was rejected via petition of the series' devs, same thing happened with Sengoku Basara characters. There was never a choice between a monster or Firebrand. 4.- Black Panther was called "too punchy" by Seth Killian in an interview, and another one claimed that he was "too similar" to Taskmaster of all characters. Also, Black Panther plays nothing like Wolverine in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. 5.- There is no evidence or sources about Franziska being rejected from Marvel 3, and it's possible that the reddit post is confusing it with her rejection from Tatsunoko vs Capcom, which on the other hand, is well-documented.
honestly if capcom were gonna make another versus game, i think sega would be an amazing choice to crossover with, not only are sega and capcom both known for their dominance in the arcade scene back in the day, theyre also known for their home console games and fighting games, both companies have tons of cool ip they could draw from too, mega man and sonic already had a crossover comic.
Sega has it's own amazing fighting game division in AM2 (well, not specifically for fighting games, although they're notable for those alone) Could you imagine street fighter characters vs virtua fighter/fighting vipers characters? Maybe even the sonic the fighters cast? lol even the hornet from daytona usa could be added in
It seems we're due for CVS3 to become reality in a few years from now. Capcom & SNK have both expressed interest in working together again, and both companies have massively expanded FG casts over decades. We probably won't see anything till City of the Wolves is finished, however.
yeah i think crossing over with not-video game properties is dead and gone, but i do think other video game properties might be on the table. just depends on whose willing to play ball in the end my pie in the sky dream would be official capcom vs. sega (partially inspired by the one fangame), just because they've messed around with crossovers in other mediums already with sonic and mega man and segas overdue for more silly crossover nonsense too since its been forever and change since theyve made their two racing games. aka "before sega owned atlus" and the stupid fanfic part of my brain wants to see aegis hang out with x/zero
@@idiotsplay580 that's likely too. Project X Zone is still... Recent enough as far as game gemrations go and Sega has been shouting how they wanna use more of their IP again the past few years. They have been doing just that, even if sometimes outsourced. I've become a new fan of many in this period like Sakura Wars and Streets of Rage but a vs Capcom and the natural built in buzz around crossovers of companies with their history would be a huge bump for both when it comes to the gaming community at least. And honestly Capcom needs it too outside the like... 5 series they acknowledge exist for the past few years, even if most of my favorite Capcom series' are among that lineup.
@@MagillanicaLouM yeah like Infinite got a bunch of buzz from the mega man community bc of how prominently featured the X cast was in the game and the sick ultron sigma fusion, even with everything else negative swirling around it. it's a good way to throw a bone to your faithful fans that dont get games every year (or every five years, considering mega man has had one new game since 2011...). i think tonight's sega fighting game reveal is 1000 percent VF6, but there's such an empty hole of crazy crossover stuff nowadays outside of specifically mortal kombat; multiversus is on hiatus for lord knows how long, MvC is dead and capcom hasnt done any serious crossover stuff in a while, smash ultimate has been done and dusted for a while and likely wont see a sequel for another 5-10 years if we're lucky... if its not capcom with a dance partner i think someone else steps up eventually into the space in a year or two
I still think TvC had the more interesting Capcom roster because they picked characters nobody ever expected. Alex in particular was my favorite, they did him justice. Would love to have seen him in 3 as another grappler.
and saki as well she is the most interesting to me because she is a character from a visual novel (or dating simulator) of all things and it still works
Indeed, tvc had soki, saki, alex, viewtiful joe(which mvc3 did re add) and megaman volnut. MVC3 obscure character for capcom side was amy from okami, which is a good pick but that's the only one. Auther from G&G isn't really obscure.
TvC is unironically my favorite Versus roster. The character choices are so inspired. No way we'll ever get the Capcom-side of a versus roster like that again.
No Psylocke was disappointing and the fact that they said she wasnt popular enough when she was the only playable female in MSH... Tessa/Talbain/Donovan/Cyclops/Juggernaut etc are upsetting too.
See, they went through all of these developmental issues and trial and error, when they could've just added Amingo as the only fighter in the entire game, and it would've been an instant 11/10. Capcom really screwed the pooch on this one
Tessa almost making in on UMVC3 but not making the cut still hurts me to this day. Literally the perfect rival for Dr Strange And damn, Capcom's Athena Asamiya(Ingrid) really can't catch a break, isn't it?
Tessa being only in three games, one of which wasn't even made by Capcom is depressing. She's one of my favorite Capcom characters and she would have been great. There was an MvC styled Tessa for Mugen that was super well made I loved.
Yeah, learning Tessa got cut hurts almost as much as hearing the various _Darkstalker_ and especially _Breath of Fire_ characters that got cut. And while I don't like Ingrid at all, I think she could have fit fine here with some revamp to her, like playing up the goddess angle maybe.
Hearing that Gill was going to be in the game made me have to pause the video and take a moment. I love Gill, and it would have been hype to see him in MvC3
@@SemiJuggaloNumber2man that sucks but I think that would have been a waste because Gill bribns main antagonist potential for the story and the game was too lazy
If it wasn’t for Disney’s Purchase on Marvel. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 would still have DLC support and the long awaited PATCH that fixes those dastardly frame issues.
Likely not as Marvel wouldn’t have existed or gone to a private equity firm who’ve done none of it. This doesn’t fit the popular narrative yet is true, but Marvel didn’t decline under Disney as it was already dying with fire sells of their properties just to survive.
I always found it weird they said they couldn’t figure out how to make Loki work in gameplay with his power set. When the game was first announced, I figured we see him and he’d play something like Chizuru Kagura from The King of Fighters. There was a reason given for Black Panther not being in the game, which I always found weird, and that reason was he would’ve played too much like Taskmaster. The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoon had been running around that time, and if they’d of molded Black Panther after that game he probably would’ve been more like Gambit with his vibranium daggers and a dash (or maybe a move) that has him running on all fours that could maybe go under some moves. I can only guess the too much like Taskmaster thing was counter moves, but it ain’t like Taskmaster is the only character with counters. I think you are right about the Rogue and Rouge thing. Capcom did want Rogue, but Marvel didn’t want her because she’s an X-Men character. Marvel didn’t even want Storm, Seth Killian had to fight to get her in. More so than the Disney thing, I thing the big difference between 3 and Infinite and getting characters in was Killian. It sounds like there were a lot of characters they had to fight to keep in 3. I want to say they were thinking about Rouge but didn’t go with her because they were worried about the games rating...which really doesn’t make any sense since she’s from a T rated video game. This was also a reason given as to why Nemesis wasn’t in the game originally, so Capcom seemingly had some odd thought on what the ESRB would and wouldn’t allow. I’m pretty sure the Fantastic Four thing is wrong. I remember an old interview from around after Ultimate came out where they talked about characters they wanted. Them being one character where you play as Mr. Fantastic, like how Captain Commando functions, is something I’m surprised they didn’t do given Captain Commando is a thing. All I remember Niitsuma saying is they wanted Mr. Fantastic and Human Torch, that they had some kind of problem with Human Torch, and that Marvel said no unless they were all there and could all be on a team together, (so it would have to be a 4 vs 4 game) and that Marvel suggested Super Skrull in their place. If they were thinking of War Machine, I wonder if they were going to completely revamp him. War Machine’s whole thing is guns. I could see Capcom taking the gameplay of PTX-40A in Tatsunoko vs Capcom, the gun switching, and just giving that to War Machine to separate him from Iron Man. I did always find it odd the Capcom side of Tatsunoko vs Capcom didn’t just get moved over. They’ve got seven characters with at least finished animations but they never reused them.
I'm glad you talked about the bad timing of marvel 3's release, however one other thing that gets overlooked is how it came out in 2011, a year before Avengers came out and put the MCU and the Avengers themselves on the map. The versus series would be in a very different place had they waited a year to release marvel 3. We also could've gotten all the Ultimate dlc on release plus the characters that were lost after the tsunami.
List of characters I wish didn’t get cut Venom, cyclops, human torch, Mr Fantastic, Blade, Juggernaut, Phylocke, Dr Octopus, Silversurfer, Power man, Multiple Man Ingrid, Sonson, Gene, Tessa, Megaman X, Franzisca, Chuck Greene, Gill, Nina, Fou Lou, Jon talbain
Thankfully with the inclusions of mods for MvC3 some of these cut characters can be playable like Venom and other new ones like Nero. Hoping someone out there makes a playable Chuck Greene mod. Interesting video though MvC3 has gotta be one of my favorite fighting games of all time.
Yeah, I'd rather have the real deal or nothing at all than some asset flips that try to resemble a character by mish mashed moves from within the game! These mods looks like shit.
My ideal Fighting rooster would be something that basically just uses all of the cast from Namco X Capcom and Project X Zone Crossover RPG's. It's still the only way I've see Fighting Vipers, Soul Calibur, and Star Gladiator characters all together in one room.
"Psylocke is the only marvel character to be removed due to the lack of popularity" I wonder to whom they gauge this "popularity" from? I wanted to have a word with them. 😤
I'm hoping footage of the MVC3 beta gets shown soon. I would have loved to see all of those cut chaeacters build and see what we could have gotten. Hopefully one day this is shared!
Considering Ingrid is the goddess of the Capcom Universe, I feel we should see her more often in crossovers, yet no chance Perhaps they should think about working on that cancelled Capcom 3D fighter again, it could have the potential for fixing her reputation
Hey man, thanks for making this video. I'm the guy who made that entire list as far back as 2019, kept updating it and reposting it until that final draft. On that Hand stage issue, I haven't really played the game in a long time so I did genuinely mean that there wasn't a Hand Hideout stage. My bad. But I'm really glad for this information to get out,, hope you have a blessed life man.
One interesting detail to add to the story: If I recall correctly, the major earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 massively (and very understandably!) disrupted Capcom’s original planned production schedule for DLC for vanilla MvC3, and suddenly having to improvise a plan B was supposedly a huge part of why they simply released UMvC3 as a standalone title with everything included.
all of these really sting...and I know it's never going to happen but Jump vs Capcom would be fire...make it look and play like MvC3 or TvC and give us some callbacks to the JoJo game and we're golden...now Goku and Ryu can take on DIO and Wesker
I think Capcom should go for it. Given how Infinity flopped because of Disney's meddling and anime are becoming more popular than superheroes, Shonen Jump seems like the key for a successful crossover. Either that or a sequel with Tatsunoko.
Carl (ATHF) in Marvel vs Capcom: "I don't need no instructions to know how to DHC." "Hey trench coat man, is that X factor for me or uh, you know what whatever. It don't matter. The three on three don't matter"
When I knew that Katt was actually considered but ultimately rejected due to the series being dead my soul died a little since she's one of my favorite characters of all time and even when the game was announced I did a little fanart of her in the game 💔
That's how I felt when I heard both, Nina and Fou-Lu, had been cut due to being unpopular Also, this video mentioned she was based on her BOF1 appearence, when in reality, the developers had chosen her BOF2 incarnation, which is even more painful since I like her design
@@MasterZebulin Check it out for yourself. It's basically Capcom meets Magic: The Gathering Have fun EDIT: Almost forgot to mention BOF3 Nina is a reskin of Jill Valentine (when it comes to in-game skills)
I had my suspicions about some characters, but knowing that they considered Katt, Tessa and Arietta and then cut them hurt my soul. As much as in this year Evo when we were waiting for the MvC4 announcement and they showed the upcoming Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising.
I think the justification of scrapping characters such as Psylocke and Nina because they’re aren’t popular enough is weird considering Rocket Raccoon made it into the game. This was well before the first GotG film was released so he definitely wasn’t as well known as he is today.
Rocket has the niche of being a wacky oddball pick. A playable unknown Raccoon draws eyes. Psylocke and Nina were known but weren’t extremely popular. Having middling popular is the worst you could have for being consider a roster spot.
Hearing about all these cuts really makes me wish they considered another version to MvC3, as unlikely as that sadly is now. Hearing that Jon Talbain was considered but got cut still hurts to this day.
Ingrid being straight up shot down makes me sad because she's such an awesome pick. Hopefully all the characters with work put into them can be playable if they ever do another (good) game someday.
Hopefully the Gamer Crowd will grow up and learn that not all Strange additions are bad. Cause it Would’ve been Interesting to see what Ingrid’s involvement in the Capcom Mythos actually is for once!
@@MasterZebulin She got her planned debut fighting game cancelled, she made it into a... less than popular Capcom crossover fighting game, and later got into the Alpha 3 PSP port. After this game came out, she made two cameos in Street Fighter 5.
It’s interesting that they were trying to outdo MVC2’s roster with 100. I actually came up with a similarly sized roster with every veteran and some new ones, called it MVC Megamix.
So many cut characters 😭😭😭, I wish people could find these builds… I’m tight that my boy Luke & Jon Tailbain didn’t make it in but I’m absolutely suprised that Gill was supposed to be in.. we def need more Spiderman villains
Niitsuma wanted 100 characters on the roster?! What a beast. Well..Super Smash Ultimate has 89. That big roster will only live in our dreams & the modding community
Bro, something inside me died with this video because a lot of my favourite characters were actually considered for the game The hood, squirrel girl, ingrid, X. it almost feels personal
Clone Engine mod was a godsend. Adds in MORE characters than the base UMvC3. Even if the movesets and hitboxes are patchwork of multiple characters (or lifted from other vs games) they have their own lifted dialogue and everything. Asura should've been a no-brainer, so it's a blast to finally play as him in a fighter.
It’s quite a shame Street Fighter 3 never had a rep in MVC, unless you want to count Alex in Tatsunoko, Breath of Fire not getting a character is just like how Isaac from Golden Sun never got in Smash, well he has an Assist Trophy and Mii Costume but those things optional, Pyron from Darkstalkers would’ve been so sick teaming up with Galactus but like the Human Torch I could see them running into issues with Pyron. It’s still so crazy how freaking Megaman or X was not prioritized, possibly due to the Keiji Inafune nonsense going on at the time, Megaman Legends 3…
"It’s still so crazy how freaking Megaman or X was not prioritized, possibly due to the Keiji Inafune nonsense going on at the time, Megaman Legends 3…" All this because Inafune thought prioritizing Bad Box Art Mega Man in Street Fighter x Tekken over actual good material for Mega Man games would be funny. _Oh, and Inafune killed Darkstalkers too when he found out he fucked up._
M.O.D.O.K. in a giant mecha-suit should’ve been the final boss in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter instead of Apocalypse. With Cyber Gouki/Akuma instead named M.O.D.O.K.U.M.A. or M.O.D.O.U.K.I.
...Well knowing that (several!?) _Breath of Fire_ characters were even in the running only to *all* get cut wasn't bad news I was expecting today. At least it seemed obvious other _Darkstalkers_ were considered even with how screwed over poor Hsien-ko got. (Hearing Tessa and potentially Rogue also got "Megaman'd" isn't great either, honestly.) That said, thanks. It's sort of interesting that Ruby Heart of all people doesn't seem to have even been considered, and I was expecting pretty much all of the Disney-mandated _Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite_ characters to be among those cut here, but I guess that they all weren't just reconfirms how much Disney forced Capcom's hand with _MvC: Infinite_ as a whole.
12:24 Not to sound like a nerd but I think it's pronounced "Sa-ma-nose-kay" also "Ominusha"? I'm sure it's "Oni-mu-sha" it's even said out loud when you unlock Mega Man.EXE in Onimusha Blade Warriors. (Yes, I know how weird that sounds, luckily Soki is right) And another thing is that about Rogue, the older MVC games did get console ports that did get rated by the ESRB, I think it's more of a, "This was way easier to get away with when we were using sprites" situation, I have a feeling Rouge was also considered but cut for the reasons you mentioned. I personally love Marvel 3, and consider it my favorite fighting game, and it's really a shame that the tragedy of the earthquake nerfed how much they could go all out but it definitely makes what they were able to get done a bit more impressive, if I had to pick the characters I'm most disappointed got cut, I would say Venom, (Huge missed opportunity for all the dialog possibilities) Squirrell Girl, (Again, all the dialog possibilities, and could have been a really good joke character) Son Son, (Finally got around to playing Marvel 2 recently and I picked her on a whim, and now she's in my main team, I sure you can guess the rest, my girl got sniped by a pirate who didn't even make it in anyway) Jedah, (He's on my main team in MVCI, and I also think I'm probably gonna main him when I play Darkstalkers, if I don't like Hsien-Ko more, yes I like playing Hsien-Ko in Marvel 3) Gene, (Purely just for the hilarity of his attacks from what I've seen of that game, plus that games fans would finally be shown some love and that's always good in my book) X, (One of my favorite characters of all time, I don't think I need to say anything else) and the Breath of Fire characters. (I would honestly just be happy for the people who got their favorite series in, and I maybe would pick up Kat since I like playing Son Son, I think that's how spell her name) One character I'm surprised wasn't considered is Mega Man Volnutt, he's in TVC so they could just use him from there, heck they proved they can do it with not too many compromises when they mentioned Soki, and he could've been a stand in for X, they already have Tron so it's not like it would be weird having just Zero and Volnutt, and they also put in Roll as the non-Mega Mega Man character and added Zero in TVCUAS the updated version that was actually released overseas so it's not like they care about that to begin with, heck he even appears in the game in Tron's ending as well. Edit: Who knows though, maybe he was one of those that haven't been confirmed but was considered, maybe they thought X was too much of a priority and they didn't think about him when the decision was made to cut X.
I believe that a character being cut due to being too similar to another is a copout response. This is especially true on the Marvel side, with some characters having 60+ years of source material to pull from. The developers just didn't have the time to do that and came up with an excuse that doesn't make them look lazy.
it's not a copout, being able to tell a character at a glance is imperative to something like a vs title, especially since you're working with teams of 3. it's not like a 1 on 1 fighter where they show you who you're fighting at the start of the match, and you have an idea of who this bozo is even if they're in a wild costume. when you have characters dropping in for assists or switching out everyone needs to be fairly recognizable and distinguishable from each other so you can reevaluate things right away and understand what match up your in. sure they could spend extra time and resources examining the expansive history of marvel just to include a character with an alternate look, but i'm sure they'd prefer to stick to either the most iconic designs or the current designs; like what, you expect carol to show up as binary or something?
@@jasontodd1896 "boot licker"? i don't even like marvel 3, or mvc in general really. i just understand the types of considerations that come up when designing a roster because they show up in interviews all the time. plus *most of these characters were canned during consideration, talks, or really early development, so they didn't have much an impact if any on the size of the final roster*. they would have planned how many slots they were going to fill, so it's not like literally every idea they floated was going to make the cut. the characters that did in fact get cut from the planned roster size did so because of a natural disaster like mentioned in the video.
It probably would have been his most popular appearance until the Spiderverse films, although I don't think his reception would have been a lot better. Him being in without Venom would have probably annoyed people (even if the devs had no control over this)
This was my favorite fighting game alongside Soul Calibur V in 2012 and 2013 and marked the end of my love for the genre as a whole because to me the entire genre peaked with these two fighting games. Everything that came afterwards is a mere husk of what it once was.
The fact that Ingrid was scrapped from vanilla MvC3 due to her hatebase is just ABSOLUTELY SAD. *_I WANT THE MODDING COMMUNITY TO PUT HER IN THE GAME NOW._*
It’s bizarre how Loki has never made it in to any game, especially considering how Infinite was shilling for the MCU. With his staff as well it could’ve made him a prrtty unique fighter. You could also give him the Casket of Winters and have him summon his children like Fenrir and Jormungand.
9:10 This is why I would rather have a new Capcom All-Stars than a new VS game, so that these obscure characters have a chance to be included in the game
11:00 Fun fact: Vergil has Demitri's color palette for one of his costume colors in UMVC3. He also has a black color palette that looks identical to his DMC5 design.
Great video. Love these type of neat informative stories. Thank you! I can't believe they passed upon the idea of adding Loki. If ever a new MVC would come, I'd expect Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Loki and Scarlet Witch.
Honestly SonSon being in but no Ruby Heart would've been perfectly fine. She's more a representative of the actual SonSon series, one of Capcom's, if not straight up THE, oldest series (as in to reach more than one game). Love Ruby too, but whether she's just an mvc OC or truly a scrapped and repurposed darkstalkers concept, the legacy SonSon has is more than enough for her to stand on her own. That all being said, yeah any world with both is the better option either way lol
Rogue doesn't need to kiss or have sex with people to take their powers, she only has to touch them with her bare skin. This is usually her hand in actual stories rather than the kiss from the old games, so either Capcom just didn't want to take away her kiss move, or you were describing Rouge, not Rogue as you said.
During Marvel 3’s development Marvel had a specific amount of characters that could make it in, ones that already had a movie or was going to get one later on, the former with Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man and the latter with Rocket Raccoon and Doctor Strange who would be introduced to the MCU later on. But characters that Marvel had no plans on using in the MCU like X-23 and Deadpool nearly didn’t happen because as Marvel was in a MUCH better state with the movies and that they were struggling to get back the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, like Cyclops and the Fantastic Four as a team never made it in. By the time MVCI was announced, with the absence of the X-Men, who had been part of this franchise since the 90s, Children of the Atom were just gone as Marvel wanted characters that would be getting their own movies or already had ones in the MCU, something that Marvel themselves received backlash for.
Dude it's about time someone openly talked about these I don't why it's been so underground for such a popular game, not even tcrf has documented any of this. I've always been fascinated from when I first heard Franzika was a cut character but never saw it mentioned anywhere. Here's hoping that amazing mod adds more of these characters they already have for a handful.
No offense to anyone who may have wanted these characters but these are my takes. War Machine: No big loss but I would've liked him back with a less Stark-like moveset. Elektra: Meh, her telepathic and illusionary powers she had might fix this but primarily normal human characters whose thing is martial arts are hard to put into a fighting game without feeling too similar or same-y to others. She mostly comes off as just another X23 to me. Vision: I don't know how you would pull off a character whose big thing is 'controlling their density.' It's definitely a fun idea to toy around with but I can see what Niitsuma was getting at. Venom: This one was an exclusion that pissed me off. Though to be fair, MvC3 came out at a time when Flash Thompson was Agent Venom so that would've caused some confusion but really he could've been cut for any reason. Cyclops: I'm sorry to say this to Cyclops fans but good. Putting aside that I've never liked Scott Summers as a character, he's really not that interesting of a fighting game character in the series' past. Like there's only so much you can do with a guy who only shoots eye lasers. It's part of why he's such a low rent shotoclone. There are better X-Men out there for MvC purposes. Fantastic Four: Being one in a single character is probably the best way around the whole 'team' angle but which one to do you make playable specifically though? That and memory limitations are probably why they stuck with Super-Skrull for this purpose. Me personally, I would've gone with Sue since her powers are the most unique or Reed for being the leader plus in addition to his stretching powers, you can also include his many inventions into the mix too while Sue, Johnny and Ben function as assists like how Captain Commando works. The Thing: Yeah what I said with characters whose gimmick is simply being martial artists? Applies here as well to characters that are a walking super-strong tank. Not much you can do mechanically to set yourself apart from The Hulk. She-Hulk managed to pull it off because she's more of athletically built and can basically function as a super strong sports start for her moveset which also makes it hard for other super strong females with the same body type to get in afterwards but it's still different enough from Hulk's 'bulldozer' esque gameplay. Black Widow: Yeah I'm guessing they didn't read too much on her arsenal because she's far from just a gun user but hey, we got her in MvCI. I just wish MvCI wasn't 'cheap as shit' or had so much baggage leading to it's reputation because it's not really a bad installment. Just a victim of circumstance. The Hood: Yeah by that point in the comics, I think Hood lost his demonic powers that Dormammu gave him and that's always the problem with making games based off of the big 2 superhero companies: you may have to play by their notion of the status quo or not. (see my comments on Venom) I have heard he's gained demonic powers again so you could do him nowadays and make him more of a mystic gun slinger but then again, Dante already has that category locked down too. Blade: Honestly, back in the day I would've wanted Blade but these days? Not so much. I mean I hate to say it but yeah, he would've just been another Dante. Or possibly even closer to how Gamora plays in MvCI. Spider-Woman: Honestly I would've rather they just used Julia Carpenter instead of Ultimate verse Jessica. AKA Madame Web. Not that that has any chance of happening now. People are soured on the idea of Madame Web because of that terrible movie (thanks a lot Sony) and frankly, Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen are currently the two more popular spider heroes these days anyway. Juggernaut: I really hate to say this since I mained Juggernaut in MvC2 back in the day but he really doesn't. Most of his moves can pretty much be given to another super strength themed character and not much would change. Maybe if you worked his old CotA item mechanic back in, that would give him some extra leeway but that's about all I can think of with him. Captain Marvel: And then she finally got in.....in Infinite. Honestly she should've been picked over Phoenix. I know Jean Grey is far more iconic but considering how broken Phoenix turned out to be in the end with her 'Dark Phoenix' gimmick, it probably would've been better to just use Carol instead despite those problems. Loki & Mystique: Bull. Crap. Loki has a million different powers and is the God of mischief. Just have him do some stuff involving making fakes of himself for illusionary powers, maybe an ice spell or too, the guy's perfect for MvC. As for Mystique, well either she or Morph could work as sort of a Shang-Tsung esque character where they can transform into other, more physically themed X-Men for various special attacks and supers. Gets more X-Men representation in w/o taking up a slot. Squirrel Girl: Actually I don't blame them for putting Rocket in over her, that's a tough call to make since they're both great choices. Personally I would've tried to go for both. Kingpin: Yeah MODOK was the better choice. Kingpin, again, goes back to my comments about characters who rely on super-strength as their main fighting gimmick. Rogue: Honestly Rogue's in the meh pile for me. Great character to read/watch in X-Men stuff. Didn't really translate to fighting games that well and could use some work. Psylocke: This is another I'm pissed we didn't get back. She was my main in XvSF. Black Panther: I wish people would stop saying that with Panther in Infinite. He plays more like a mix of Strider and Sabretooth than the actual Wolverine. Luke Cage: Again, another guy who relies too much on super strength. Spiral: Spiral was always a weird choice for X-Men character anyway and I was never a big fan of her moveset. Human Torch: Torch would've just been another rush down projectile spammer anyways. Doc Ock: Yeah that one's pretty sad too. Spidey has a huge rogue's gallery and while I wouldn't want Venom to be cut, it would be nice to see him get some company as well. Silver Surfer: Yeah that one doesn't surprise me. Multiple Man: Uh is Multiple Man really that popular an X-Men choice though? Cloak & Dagger: So I wasn't the only one to come up with that idea? Emma Frost: In hindsight, I think I would've preferred Emma instead. Ingrid: Okay Niitsuma can bite me for that one. Katt: Meh. Sonson: Okay that one hurt. Mai-Ling: Pretty sure there are better Red Earth characters than her that could be picked. Like Tessa for example. Jedah: Yet another case of someone who should've been in 3 but had to wait for Infinite which everyone decided they wanted to hate for dumb reasons. (Shut up, they were) He needs to come back. Demitri: I think it's less the ESRB that's holding back Midnight Bliss and more "we gotta make 50+ unique models for every character in the game for this one move" that turned them off if anything. Donovan: Very conflicted on this considering it's basically asking me to pick between him and Hsien-ko. And I think I'd rather have Hsien-ko since she's my favorite Darkstalker. Arieta: You mean they can't just put an NGE style jumpsuit on her? Okay it's censorship but at least it lets us have a woman in a giant robot playable. (And frankly people need to shut up about this kind of thing anyways. You're hear to play a fighting game, not pleasure yourself) Gene: BULL! CRAAAAAAP! You're telling me they couldn't work both in there?! I would've cut Trish over Gene anyways. No need for DMC to have 3 characters. Monster Hunter: See my other comments on characters that made it into Infinite but not 3. Although I'm glad they picked Firebrand in the end nonetheless. Tessa: I already said she'd be a better choice than Mai-Ling. Sucks that the rest of the team wasn't big on her. I swear I question the logic of some people..... Onimusha Guy: Strider's in basically the same boat and I think them going through all of that for him was worth it more in the end than it is with the Onimusha franchise IMO. Strider's more popular. X: Again, see my comments on the other Infinite characters that got snubbed from this. Francisca: Meh. Phoenix himself was enough IMO and frankly, Francisca sounds pretty limited. Is the whip all she has going for her? Chuck Greene: Aw man! That would've gotten far more combo weapons in there too and his Lv. 3? Using the Slicecycle while doing a death defying motorcycle stunt! Oh well, at least Frank got some of his combo weapons to make up for it. Jon Talbain: Oh this hurts worse than any other Darkstalkers omission. Jon's my second favorite Darkstalkers character. Soki: Meh. Never liked him in TvC. Gill: GOOD! The Ressurection gimmick with Phoenix was bad enough, we didn't need him doing it as well. Fou-Lu: Oh so that's why I see him on a bunch of wanted lists. Nina: Oh that's another one I'm angry didn't make it. From the sound of things, she would've been one of my mains too. Man that was a lot for me to say.
"Spiral: Spiral was always a weird choice for X-Men character anyway and I was never a big fan of her moveset." She literally became popular because of the MvC series. I can see why you don't like her moveset, but the impact she had on the series can't be understated. "Ingrid: Okay Niitsuma can bite me for that one." I agree, Ingrid was *_ROBBED._* "Mai-Ling: Pretty sure there are better Red Earth characters than her that could be picked. Like Tessa for example." Wasn't Tessa in both Pocket Fighter AND SvC: Chaos, already, though? Because she deserves a BREAK. And besides, Capcom Fighting Jam did have Leo and Kenji, and Mai-Ling has NEVER APPEARED IN A GAME OUTSIDE OF RED EARTH. "Jedah: Yet another case of someone who should've been in 3 but had to wait for Infinite which everyone decided they wanted to hate for dumb reasons." David Kaye is just too suave for haters to handle. "Francisca: Meh. Phoenix himself was enough IMO and frankly, Francisca sounds pretty limited. Is the whip all she has going for her?" If it makes you feel better, apparently Apollo Justice was planned to be in Infinite as DLC. However, due to the massive whiplash the game & it's first wave of DLC got... yeah... "Jon Talbain: Oh this hurts worse than any other Darkstalkers omission. Jon's my second favorite Darkstalkers character." As Thorgi's Arcade put it, Jon is the sole Darkstalker who has the "Why hasn't this character appeared in anything else award." "Gill: GOOD! The Ressurection gimmick with Phoenix was bad enough, we didn't need him doing it as well." I thought it was due to his playstyle not matching his slow movement and tall stature, but OK. "Nina: Oh that's another one I'm angry didn't make it. From the sound of things, she would've been one of my mains too." What's funny is that when Thorgi's Arcade did a Build The Roster of MvC4, he listed Nina as one of the characters he would've included and described exactly how Nina would have appeared & played in this game *_TO. A. TEE._*
6:05 To be fair to Miles Morales he actually only replaced Ultimate Peter Parker not the main comics however again after that the Superior Spider-Man Arc happened in the main comic so it didn't help his case
On the subject of mvc cut characters season 2 of infinite was going to have some WINNERS. Ant man ( mcu star) Ms marvel( prob the most popular character introduced in the 2010s) Star lord( he should have been there from the start) Virgil(I AM THE STORM THAT IS APROCHING) Lady( new dmc rep) Asura( WHY IS HE NOT PLAYABLE YET) Gill ( weird he failed to get into both 3d games.) Apollo justice ( i think he is popular)
Ah, dang yeah, Psylocke not popular enough. Shuma-Gorath non-negotiable though. Spiral > Psylocke too is insane. I knew who her and MODOK were beforehand, but how many people knew those characters? Dormamu? Taskmaster? Nova? It wasn’t even like there were big MCU plans for these characters, some of which we still haven’t seen in movies or shows. I consider myself a fan of Marvel stuff in general and MvC3 has several characters I’ve only seen in that game/was the first time I’d heard of a character. I would say I don’t believe all of this, but it certainly lines up, definitely including the thought that they wanted a second Dead Rising character over Leon Kennedy. “Not popular enough” maybe, with his game being released already 20 times by then I’m so sad about Franziska, that would have been amazing
Welp, after they finally released a collection of the full MVC arcade series (including Children of the Atom and MSH), they might make another title in sole near future considering they bothered negotiating these licenses
I can’t find any mention of why Gambit was excluded from the game. Since the developers didn’t put him in Ultimate version, I was left wondering why. I’d understand if they thought he’d be too similar to Dante. However, Dante doesn’t jump from wall to wall nor have a move like the Cajun Strike.
They were lazy and wanted to cut as many characters as possible. So they just threw in a few new charters to make it look like it was worth getting… the roster only had like 14 characters and most were just cut and paste. We def didn’t get a New game we got a tune up!
With UMVC3 having a hella crazy good community doing mods, these cut characters could be a memory.

With the later games, it felt like so many of the Capcom reps were from games and series already popular in the West.
I loved playing characters like Jin back in MvC2.

@@Teebs1996 wait, really? Source on that?

Alright, some things to comment, since I made my own research on all these rejected characters:
1.- There was never a choice between Sentinel and Juggernaut.
Black Panther DOES play similar to Wolverine. In terms of his moveset, he's just discount Wolverine
@@Mimi._.Haruno_ Mention a move set similarity then. Just because they both use claws doesn't mean they fight the same.

honestly if capcom were gonna make another versus game, i think sega would be an amazing choice to crossover with, not only are sega and capcom both known for their dominance in the arcade scene back in the day, theyre also known for their home console games and fighting games, both companies have tons of cool ip they could draw from too, mega man and sonic already had a crossover comic.
As long as Namco is involved.

Hear me out: Arc System Works vs. Capcom
Sega has it's own amazing fighting game division in AM2 (well, not specifically for fighting games, although they're notable for those alone)
Could you imagine street fighter characters vs virtua fighter/fighting vipers characters? Maybe even the sonic the fighters cast? lol even the hornet from daytona usa could be added in
It seems we're due for CVS3 to become reality in a few years from now. Capcom & SNK have both expressed interest in working together again, and both companies have massively expanded FG casts over decades. We probably won't see anything till City of the Wolves is finished, however.
yeah i think crossing over with not-video game properties is dead and gone, but i do think other video game properties might be on the table. just depends on whose willing to play ball in the end
my pie in the sky dream would be official capcom vs. sega (partially inspired by the one fangame), just because they've messed around with crossovers in other mediums already with sonic and mega man and segas overdue for more silly crossover nonsense too since its been forever and change since theyve made their two racing games.

HUGE NEWS
I still think TvC had the more interesting Capcom roster because they picked characters nobody ever expected. Alex in particular was my favorite, they did him justice. Would love to have seen him in 3 as another grappler.
and saki as well
she is the most interesting to me because she is a character from a visual novel (or dating simulator) of all things and it still works
@@OGpackirby Quiz dating sim actually. Quiz Nanairo Dreams. She was an assist partner in MvC1 as well.
And Megaman Volnutt!
Oh man, Gill being cut makes me so sad dude. Rogue (possibly) is even more sad, but thankfully modders are working on her rn, so that's cool!
Tessa almost making in on UMVC3 but not making the cut still hurts me to this day. Literally the perfect rival for Dr Strange
And damn, Capcom's Athena Asamiya(Ingrid) really can't catch a break, isn't it?
Tessa being only in three games, one of which wasn't even made by Capcom is depressing. She's one of my favorite Capcom characters and she would have been great. There was an MvC styled Tessa for Mugen that was super well made I loved.
Ingrid's game also changed Zangief's sprites and they looked terrible. She can STAY in the bin until she apologizes for ruining Zangief.

If it wasn’t for Disney’s Purchase on Marvel. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 would still have DLC support and the long awaited PATCH that fixes those dastardly frame issues.
This
I domt get how the game is so weirdly poorly optimised
I mean i feel the earthquake is genuinely the reason the roster isn't bigger
I'm glad you talked about the bad timing of marvel 3's release, however one other thing that gets overlooked is how it came out in 2011, a year before Avengers came out and put the MCU and the Avengers themselves on the map. The versus series would be in a very different place had they waited a year to release marvel 3. We also could've gotten all the Ultimate dlc on release plus the characters that were lost after the tsunami.
I just want Capcom vs. Capcom...
That would be great, but who would be the final boss?

One interesting detail to add to the story: If I recall correctly, the major earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 massively (and very understandably!) disrupted Capcom’s original planned production schedule for DLC for vanilla MvC3, and suddenly having to improvise a plan B was supposedly a huge part of why they simply released UMvC3 as a standalone title with everything included.

Asura should've been a no-brainer, so it's a blast to finally play as him in a fighter.
MvC collections is coming!!!
Time for more HOPIUM 😅
"It’s still so crazy how freaking Megaman or X was not prioritized, possibly due to the Keiji Inafune nonsense going on at the time, Megaman Legends 3…"
All this because Inafune thought prioritizing Bad Box Art Mega Man in Street Fighter x Tekken over actual good material for Mega Man games would be funny.
_Oh, and Inafune killed Darkstalkers too when he found out he fucked up._
great video. gene would've been so cool in UMVC3. also infinite almost giving us lady from DMC . it would've been so hype
Back then with no context, It felt like M.O.D.O.K. was the replacement for Cyclops.
M.O.D.O.K. in a giant mecha-suit should’ve been the final boss in Marvel Super Heroes vs.
(Hearing Tessa and potentially Rogue also got "Megaman'd" isn't great either, honestly.)
That said, thanks.
Can't believe Marvel said no for Venom and Cyclops
crazy they thought Psylocke wasn't popular because she is MASSIVELY popular in the X-Men space, as well as the MvC space, but oh well. awesome video!
(Yes, I know how weird that sounds, luckily Soki is right)
And another thing is that about Rogue, the older MVC games did get console ports that did get rated by the ESRB, I think it's more of a, "This was way easier to get away with when we were using sprites" situation, I have a feeling Rouge was also considered but cut for the reasons you mentioned.
(I would honestly just be happy for the people who got their favorite series in, and I maybe would pick up Kat since I like playing Son Son, I think that's how spell her name)
One character I'm surprised wasn't considered is Mega Man Volnutt, he's in TVC so they could just use him from there, heck they proved they can do it with not too many compromises when they mentioned Soki, and he could've been a stand in for X, they already have Tron so it's not like it would be weird having just Zero and Volnutt, and they also put in Roll as the non-Mega Mega Man character and added Zero in TVCUAS the updated version that was actually released overseas so it's not like they care about that to begin with, heck he even appears in the game in Tron's ending as well. Edit: Who knows though, maybe he was one of those that haven't been confirmed but was considered, maybe they thought X was too much of a priority and they didn't think about him when the decision was made to cut X.
Nothing wrong with that, especially since the subject is nerdy enough.
In a good way
@@acesamm I suppose, and I guess there's no harm in a correction as long as you're not rude about it.
I was so disappointed to find that the juggernaut wasn't in MVC 3.
It is . I agree
@@tvgg1it is a copout reason. It’s laziness tbh
Found the bootlicker
@@jasontodd1896 "boot licker"? i don't even like marvel 3, or mvc in general really. i just understand the types of considerations that come up when designing a roster because they show up in interviews all the time. plus *most of these characters were canned during consideration, talks, or really early development, so they didn't have much an impact if any on the size of the final roster*. they would have planned how many slots they were going to fill, so it's not like literally every idea they floated was going to make the cut. the characters that did in fact get cut from the planned roster size did so because of a natural disaster like mentioned in the video.
@@tvgg1yeah right
I feel like Miles Morales in MvC3 would be a good way to introduce him to people since he was created in the same year MvC3 was released
True That, True that. And It’s super Annoying.
I would've lost it for Talbain to be playable
It would’ve been cool to see some dead rising psychopaths like Adam or Brandon, I think they’d make for a great moveset!
Great detailed explanations. Its clear you put great effort into this video. Subscribed :)
Great video. Love these type of neat informative stories. Thank you!
I can't believe they passed upon the idea of adding Loki.
If ever a new MVC would come, I'd expect Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Loki and Scarlet Witch.
The modding community gonna take care of this
Honestly SonSon being in but no Ruby Heart would've been perfectly fine.
MvCI was such a fever dream they we're still talking about MvC3
Rogue doesn't need to kiss or have sex with people to take their powers, she only has to touch them with her bare skin. This is usually her hand in actual stories rather than the kiss from the old games, so either Capcom just didn't want to take away her kiss move, or you were describing Rouge, not Rogue as you said.
Yeah, I think it was the Power Stone character the original post was referring to.
Never understand why Ingrid is hated.
I'm sure I remember seeing artwork for the Green Goblin back around the time MVC3 was in development too
Fantastic 4 as a single ensemble character wouldve been wild. Imagine having 6 characters to your opponents 3 lmao
Can’t believe they didn’t add Bison. He was one of the few mvc2 SF characters that could contend with the Marvel side
You're hear to play a fighting game, not pleasure yourself)
Gene: BULL!
"Spiral: Spiral was always a weird choice for X-Men character anyway and I was never a big fan of her moveset."
She literally became popular because of the MvC series. I can see why you don't like her moveset, but the impact she had on the series can't be understated.
"Ingrid: Okay Niitsuma can bite me for that one."
I agree, Ingrid was *_ROBBED._*
"Mai-Ling: Pretty sure there are better Red Earth characters than her that could be picked. Like Tessa for example."
Wasn't Tessa in both Pocket Fighter AND SvC: Chaos, already, though? Because she deserves a BREAK. And besides, Capcom Fighting Jam did have Leo and Kenji, and Mai-Ling has NEVER APPEARED IN A GAME OUTSIDE OF RED EARTH.
"Jedah: Yet another case of someone who should've been in 3 but had to wait for Infinite which everyone decided they wanted to hate for dumb reasons."
David Kaye is just too suave for haters to handle.
"Francisca: Meh. Phoenix himself was enough IMO and frankly, Francisca sounds pretty limited. Is the whip all she has going for her?"
If it makes you feel better, apparently Apollo Justice was planned to be in Infinite as DLC. However, due to the massive whiplash the game & it's first wave of DLC got... yeah...
"Jon Talbain: Oh this hurts worse than any other Darkstalkers omission. Jon's my second favorite Darkstalkers character."
As Thorgi's Arcade put it, Jon is the sole Darkstalker who has the "Why hasn't this character appeared in anything else award."
"Gill: GOOD! The Ressurection gimmick with Phoenix was bad enough, we didn't need him doing it as well."
I thought it was due to his playstyle not matching his slow movement and tall stature, but OK.
"Nina: Oh that's another one I'm angry didn't make it. From the sound of things, she would've been one of my mains too."
What's funny is that when Thorgi's Arcade did a Build The Roster of MvC4, he listed Nina as one of the characters he would've included and described exactly how Nina would have appeared & played in this game *_TO. A. TEE._*
They weren't dumb.
Chuck and Von Karma would've gone so hard
6:05 To be fair to Miles Morales he actually only replaced Ultimate Peter Parker not the main comics however again after that the Superior Spider-Man Arc happened in the main comic so it didn't help his case
Yeah, I wish they did a "Batman Beyond" with Miles instead. I'm positive he would have been much more well-received.
Ruby Heart should make a comeback
We could've had freaking Gene!? And they gave us Frank instead?! What a travesty.
On the subject of mvc cut characters season 2 of infinite was going to have some WINNERS.

Ms marvel( prob the most popular character introduced in the 2010s)
Star lord( he should have been there from the start)
Virgil(I AM THE STORM THAT IS APROCHING)

Asura( WHY IS HE NOT PLAYABLE YET)
Gill ( weird he failed to get into both 3d games.)
Apollo justice ( i think he is popular)
"Apollo justice ( i think he is popular)"
He shares a Japanese voice actor with Jaden Yuki, why is that not a sign of him being popular to you?
The fact we dont have a single Breath of Fire character in the mvc séries saddens me
I would've loved to have seen Franziska Von Karma in MVC man she could've been so cool
A lot of the heroes and heralds cards were characters cut in development or were considered but cut very early.
“Not popular enough” maybe, with his game being released already 20 times by then
I’m so sad about Franziska, that would have been amazing
The first time I ever heard of Spiral was when I saw X-Men COTA gameplay.
Gambit's absence might be a result of wanting a female staff user (which sadly never happened.)
@@JakeJakers I would say more likely it was because X-men had been getting phased out for a decade and Gambit was barely used during that time.
They were lazy and wanted to cut as many characters as possible. So they just threw in a few new charters to make it look like it was worth getting… the roster only had like 14 characters and most were just cut and paste. We def didn’t get a New game we got a tune up!
