Most song's by mastodon are in C, drop C. B, or drop B. The older the song the more likely it is to be B or drop B. They switched to C and drop C during the Hunter so that the riffs would have more clarity and less of a muddy sound.

No, I plug it straight into the audio device. I just used a boss DS1 as distortion.
