Ring Pour / Acrylic Pouring Techniques

- I decided to go for a ring pour today using my favorite colour palette! I mixed pouring medium of 60% PVA Glue, 40% water. Pouring medium to paint, 1:1. (Eyeballed lol) Added water to thin until the paint/pouring medium mix leaves a mound for like 2 seconds and then sinks. For ring pours I like thick paint. It prevents the colours from blending and holds the shape of any cells that appear while stretching.

Do you mean that using this pouring medium means that the painting won't last particularly well?

I don’t watch the bloom technique videos and my favourite pourers are now doing them a lot. I’m not sure if I’ll ever try them. I understand it’s a part of many artists’ journey but I’m still intrigued and busy with the other techniques (which have endless variations) 😊. A lot of people will benefit from watching this video! It's beautiful, lots more like this please. I like ring pours and wrecked ring pours too. I just love all the lines and the way they turn into waves when you do the corners then tilt back. I really lik the feathery effect that came out with the white in the centre, that was really nice. It was all nice and those colours go really well together.

This is beautiful Erica, and so nice to see a change! I love your colour choices and I’d watch your videos no matter what technique you use because your colours are just so amazing! I’ve never really used the glue and water mix. I think I did try it with glue and floetrol but I didn’t really know the ratio that would work so I thought it wouldn’t work for me. I might give it another try sometime just for kicks. Anyway, thanks for a great video 😊💖

Erica, I love your videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I had two queries. 1. what is the best DIY pouring medium recipe, even if I do commission pieces. Or should I stick to Liquitex /market available pouring mediums?
2.For these acrylic pouring techniques,( ring, dirty, dutch pours) can I use, part of bloom technique recipe,( of mixing paint with house paint base C and varnish) instead of pouring medium?

Is this ratio by volume or by weight. One prominent artist does it by weight on a scale. Most others seem to imply volume, but few specify

Thanks for the video!! :D now im more motivated to keep using the PVA pouring medium. Can I ask, what do you think is more important, the paint brand or the PM? I can see with this piece that even with cheap PM like glue the painting is totally amazing!!!! I was worried about get floetrol to make my PM but i think now im going to invest in better paints

Hey new fan here. How many ounces of paint did you use? For 12 X 12 I used 1.68 Oz of paint and I feel that it's way too much. But I'm not sure how to eyeball it.
I eyeball it everytime lol. You should be able to find a chart online that will tell you how much paint to use for the size of your canvas.
