Let’s Go BIGGER! | Sailing Soulianis - Ep. 114

- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- We’re on the hunt for our next boat! We’re looking for a trimaran that’s big enough to live on for several weeks to a month+ at a time, but still small enough to trailer. It’s been tough - if not impossible! - to find. So far most of the boats we’ve seen have been too small in one dimension or another, so in this episode, we try to go BIGGER.
Hope you enjoy!

And then... aw, man! What what a cliff hanger!!
I felt the same, 46 minutes later.😀
I searched Ep. 115. No luck. Many other channels list a 115. ☹
Cameos with Renata are great.
I am digging the flashforward and seeing your daughter's leap in age. Wow! Very cool to have you guys back into the same time warp as the rest of us. Love the boat ideas. All the best in upcoming adventures!
Thanks!
South Haven, my hometown. It was crazy seeing my hometown in your video.
There is no prefect boat, only the best available compromise. As for a tow rig, I tow a travel trailer with a mid duty truck (2000 International 4700 flatbed). Lots of towing capacity and our car rides on the flatbed (15,000#). Having a car while traveling lets us park the truck and use a smaller car to explore the area. It is a good compromise for us. Enjoy your adventure with the family. Children do grow up so fast. i was fortunate enough that my family had a power boat when I was young. Sixty years later I still remember them as good years.
She's grown so much.......awesome!
You three are a huge blessing and an inspiration as you search for your 'perfect' tri-hull that is trailerable.
Thank you Bill!
The suspense! I’m getting curious about these folding trimarans, should explore what’s available in the UK. Love the way Renata behaves, clearly benefiting from good parenting, and befriends a cat.
Deferred maintenance was a very diplomatic way to say " neglected".
Oh my goodness.. The little one, no. Eat whole!! My heart melted
Look at the Corsair 970. Same layout at 31’. Only 6’2” headroom
Congrats on finding a boat guys. And that little one is so big and adorable. You guys are doing awesome can’t wait to see you sailing the new boat
Check out Dragonfly. Great interiors and far more superior folding mechanism. You can leave the boat folded in the water in a standard slip. Gorgeous interiors.
You found it!
Renata is an absolutely beautiful and cool kid. Growing so fast.
The tris are fast for sure. For a total of four years a few years apart I owned a trailerable keel boat, Santana 20, that I had to lower and raise the mast to launch, etc. then later a 19' Flying Scot (correction) day sailor on trailer which I had to do it. I vowed after those two time taking chores never to own a boat where I had to raise a mast, much less a 32 foot Corsair or other, plus big rotating mast. Yes to the convenience of trailering but I would bet the ranch your Chip will get traded for an suv with a big engine and muscle if you buy anything above 32' and you get really tired of raising and lowering a mast. Just four years of experience raising masts. Does it work? Yes, Is it time consuming? Big time. Good luck.
Love south Haven….used to live in St Joe a few years back. Your daughter is at the awesome age where they start to develop personality and are so much fun to watch as they explore and learn about new things all the time…..I am getting that awesome experience again now with our grandchildren
I have a Corsair 28n and I'm 6.2 tall. With these boats you'll learn that you spend 90% of your time top side, and 10% camping below. With the Companionway up, there is plenty of head room. I wouldn't want anything bigger than the 28. It's very trailerable, seaworthy and will be great up in the North Channel and Painted rocks. We looked at the 880 and loved it, but the 28 came up and was a lot less $$ and because it has been a GL boat it's entire life, it was in perfect shape. The original owner never used the cabin so it was in like new condition. Good luck!
You’re killing me ! I thought we would know in this video. Now, the anticipation is killing me. So happy you are current and we can see how cute Renata is on the boats. She will be a great crew member.
Glad to see you guys more often
Oh my God, you guys are killing me! You even stated that you will never find the perfect boat, which means you have to pull the trigger or you will be looking FOREVER
So excited!!! I can’t wait for the next episode!!!
And Renata is getting so big! ❤️
Just when I think you found the one, you leave us in suspense! Nice cliff hanger!
Hoping by the next episode you’ll be boat owners again !! wishing you all the best!!
Fair winds ⛵️
Much love you two (actually, 3 now). You have been an inspiration for my wife and I and in a few years, we will be looking for a sailboat for ourselves. Its good to see the hard work behind the scenes to keep the dream grounded and not let our heads stay in the clouds
Wow Cool! I myself considered the choice of trimoran as the fastest sailing transport. Thank you for your videos and experience!
Enjoying all of the trimarans. Renata is so grown up! What a cutie!
Now hang on ... I raced to the end, true confession. Won't put in spoilers. 😊 Renata is coming on in leaps and bounds.
FLORIDA 🏖️⛱️💯
I was particularly intrigued by the segment beginning at the 37 second point. I've been stepping and unstepping my mast every spring and fall at that particular hoist for years.
You two are such teasers!!! yeah, your daughter is adorable and so well mannered, knew you'd be good parents but not this good.
The baby sure Has grown, so cute!
Nice music
Stay safe....better life keep moving...
wow "and then" love the videos
Just love you three! So amazing!
Eykis sure is a beautiful boat 🤙 looking forward to seeing the trimaran you selected ⛵️
I think Renata stole the show. She is growing so fast. I did not know that she was already walking too. It is obvious that she gets a lot of love from mom and dad.
So is the out board motor electric or combustion engine? Well I hope that you all will have a nice Thanksgiving. 🤗😘🇺🇸
Well I hope that you will not keep us all waiting until next week for a decision on that last boat that you went to look at. Thanks
Good luck with your search for the funnest sailing boat ever. I am looking forward to seeing it in the wind.
We didn't initially get a trailer with our Corsair 37 because of the obvious challenges -- it's 'transportable' rather than 'trailerable.' But after of few years of sailing up and down the east coast we will be attempting to tow her next spring for the first time ... hoping it goes well, since otherwise the 37 is the perfect combination (at least in our price range, haha) of performance and comfort. Being able to take it (not without some effort, of course) cross-continent will be the cherry on the sundae!
Very cool insight, Catherine. Thank you for sharing!
Crazy that dude came outta the shop. 😂. She’s growing so fast. 😢
Great ideas for sure. I could have trailered my first boat but i would have needed a wide load permit. I have the truck to pull it but stepping and un-stepping the mast would have required laborers. The tri-hull would be fast!
Thank you
10:26 I watched a couple sunsets on that park bench and walked down the same blue stairs to the beach probably just days before you were there in South Haven.
Precious little girl! She helps make your channel, ...boat or no boat.
No, no, you don't get to leave us hanging like this! NO!!!! LOL 😍
So exciting looking for that one boat that catches your eye. Love the vlog :)
Just a thought. Sell "Chip" get a 1-ton truck with a truck bed camper. It would be more than enough truck to pull a sailboat of the size you're looking for.
We have a 2019 Ford F350 1-Ton 4x4 pickup, we have a 2020 Arctic Fox 811 4-Season pickup camper. We also pull a 3200# 4x4 SUV with us. Our camper is fully self contained with large water, sewer and gray tanks, generator, shower, toilet, etc. I mention this to maybe consider this as an option as a tow vehicle with a living quarters that can pull a boat. Plus you can drop the truck camper wherever you like.
Well this one ended with a bit of a twist, haha!
Personally I like the Corsair 37 but there are issues. At 6700 lbs light displacement that is over the 6000 lbs you indicate is load for your van. Q- is that the capacity with towing equipment (HD shocks/lifters and springs, extra transmission and engine oil cooler)? If not and the max load can be upped to 8000lbs then it might be possible with an alum trailer with brakes and antisway. Next issue is the mast which I assume is approx 49' long given the 56.5' height above water level. Unless you always go to locations where there is a crane to step/unstep the mast, you would need to have the mast base be a tabernacle and rig up a 20' wishbone ^ lifter attached to the rear roof of your van (back up van to lift the top of mast high enough to continue lifting with winch at boat's stern combined with a separate wishbone). Also trailering with 49' mast with be a challenge and the 9'10" width may cause some "wide load" issues in some states. This 37' Corsair would be suitable for Caribbean and having guests. Best of luck whatever you decide.
Great description, devil is in the details....
Not being able to step the mast yourself is a huge setback
How about a gemini catamaran. You can have them trailered on highways back and forth to marina.
The suspense is killing me! 😜
Hey Soulianians
Thx for continuing to put up one of the most authentic, chill, watchable shows on the Tube. You're a special couple, Renata is a cutie pie and enjoyed seeing her time warp. Congrats on getting me others excited to see what boat wins!!! Keep dropping those Eps!! and thx
Thank you so much ❤️
Farrier F32A... "which is the largest legally trailerable trimaran (without permit) in the world."
If you'd gotten the Corsair 37 you'd need a new tow vehicle so the obvious solution is buy a crane to tow it with so you can also step and unstep the mast.
OK, removing tongue from cheek now. Can't wait to see what you actually bought.
missed you guys :-)
Another episode, several more possibles 🎉✌🏻️ It will happen. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞✨
"But then" And we wait........................................................................... 🤣🤣
Your killing me Smalls. I was like Yes they found a boat but sike nope. Man come on. I really wanted to see the boats new name and a list of repairs or upgrades but no nothing nada zip yum out of luck. 😞 lol
Look at the Dragonfly.
Still teasing. !!!
Congratulations to you family! I was not sure, at first, if this would be right….now I am happy for you! Plus, you should not be sea-sick with this one. So, your land you purchased is where in Michigan? I just didn’t remember you actually bought…Grand Haven? You are right to be cautions about dropping something - even a drill….but, the V-birth needs some sealing…but you, both, are great at repairs…the “echo” might be solved with some sound deadening material here and there on the walls. You can do that trip into Canada, right?, if you can lower the mast which must be easily doable. Well, I hope you achieve many subscribers. And, you still have the apartments in Wisconsin, I hope….you both are resourceful and very smart. I hope you continue to grow in Jesus…the Author and Finisher of our Faith. God bless you all. - Keith
Dragonfly 28
Yeah, I know. Very expensive. But awesome.
Haha yup
Light weight boats are fine but fragile boats not only suck to fix, they are dangerous at sea.
Jim your neighbor to the south in Williamsburg here....Have followed you since you crossed lake Michigan to Charlevoix the first time. Does this mean you are less than half a year behind with your videos??? Thanks for all you share, hope you got to enjoy the summer close to home sailing.
It does!! Only 4 months now! 😆
@@SailingSoulianis Since you came down here to look at another boat I'm finding the timeline very scary now. That's enough time for you to have decided on one from here, made arrangements to come get it, and arrive during/after Ian to find things not as you left them. Which would majorly suck.
Can't wait to hear what boat you decide to buy. Your beautiful baby girl is a toddler! We spend lots of time near Johnston Park in South Haven. I think Bunde's is now for sale :{ Hope to run into you (Ha Ha)-or see you in SoHa sometime.
Never sailed a tri but they look fast and stable..a farrier 34 sounds like a good fit. When you use them and anchor how do you get to shore? Do you move the big boat right up to shore and step off and anchor med more type, bow out anchored? Carry a dinghy? An interesting mode of sailing. Watched an f 27 fly at 16 knots by a Florida owner. Good luck and hope you find a good fit.
Wow by the times you guys find a boat will be living in on the moon stop with the cliff hangers
Ahhhh! Buy the boat! Or how about have the profesional fiberglasser build you a boat! What ever you do, it is like wait for christmas seeing what you do... Can't wait to find out.
Florida kept boats degenerate at an accelerated rate vs the great lakes. Delayed maintenance is a killer.
I bet some people didn't see the FL snippet at the end ;-)
The suspense is killing me,
Just show us the new boat already?
As always Great Show
Denny from Minnesota
Have you ever looked at the Dragonfly trimarans?
Fast for sure. How do you anchor one of these? A bridle?
🤙
The only thing about Triman is you pay for larger dock space when you need to dock.
And a lot wasted boat that you can’t use, the outriggers. But that’s my opinion.
The outriggers fold up without interfering with the use of the main hull, or you can just fold up one to make for easy access from a dock.
🔥🔥🔥
Please talk about the truck/or fees to haul it. I am interested to see if your planning on towing this boat or paying a professional.
They have always talked about towing it themselves with Chip, their van. Just as they did again in this video. While I do not know if they would ever have it professionally towed or not, the point is for them to just take off when ever they want or find a little bit of free time.
@@kevinfisher1345 Following the weather plus northern family time also important. 30-32' tri is right at Chip's limit. I'm sure that's the inevitable solution.
Buy a house in Cape Coral on a canal, keep the tri-maran in the back yard and put the house in a seasonal rental program. You guys seem to be down this way every year anyway.
My version is put a ~35 footer in a charter fleet in Cape Coral and keep my existing northern fresh water boats. Would have lost it in the hurricane :-(
@@artsmith103 I have a hurricane hole marina inland that I used. My boat was on the hard and suffered zero damage. My dock down behind Ft Myers Beach... different story. For a few hundred bucks, you can get your boat to safety in half a day from Cape Coral. It's pretty cheap insurance.
@@CapeCoralFloridaWaterfront Do you have any knowledge of Glades Boat Storage near Lake Okeechobee?
My situation would have been medium size monohaul in Cape Coral marina charter fleet while I was out of state.
@@artsmith103 I had my boat (30 foot monohull) at Belle Hatchee Marina in LaBelle. It's one of the last marinas that let you do work yourself, and the prices there are very reasonable. Cost $350 to pull it out and relaunch, and $100 to take the mast down and $100 to put it back up.
@@CapeCoralFloridaWaterfront have you ever heard anything about Glades storage? I looked up that they're 25 miles apart.
i love the idea but tri's are very rare in the uk
Hi guys, what price range are these multi hulls... Thanks... John and Penny... Ontario, Canada....
As soon as you said that you couldn't raise the mast alone, Nah! If you are going for a trailerable boat, make it one that you can wake up and decide to use that day or weekend. A sail doesn't have to be for 3 or 4 weeks. Buy less, go more.
I’d love to know the name of the fiberglass guy in South Haven. I live 10 miles from there in Bangor, and my 1986 25’ Rinker Cuddy Cabin (Wo-Mann Overboard- I’m a scuba diver) needs some work.

Cool boat, but is it child friendly? In a few months it will be nearly impossible to keep an eye on her all the time.
Is a house child friendly? Not really. So many hazardous things in every house. Outlets, stairs, sharp corners, kitchen drawers, fireplaces, hot scolding water, bathtubs, etc. Heck our 1.5 yo grandkid just a couple of days ago was brought home by some neighbor lady. She had worked out how to unlock, open and climb out her bedroom window before her parents woke up in the morning. So even windows are not child friendly. But you can make them more child friendly, just as I did by improving the lock on her window. People have lived around so many hazards with kids for eons.
@@kevinfisher1345 And watch how Renata is being raised. She is already learning to manage the boat environment.
Just .... LOL
👍🎣🌊⛵🏖️⛱️💯
simple trade chip in for a say f450 or f550 size box van\truck make box into a camper plus pull most anything
We thought about this option quite a bit!
I pull a 53' trailer through the heaviest traffick. Trust me, you can handle it; it's easy after you do it for a while.
I've run 53 foot car hauling trailers coast to coast - and it's clearly not for the average person with no large rig experience. For starters, the "at the limit" kingpin to rear axle distance my trailers had would cause you to climb over curbs constantly in small villages/towns across the country. Finding a place to park near a boat ramp or boat yard will easily become a hassle for a 30 foot trailer. You'll have to pay for parking while you're away on your week or two week long cruise. Most launching ramps don't allow for this. Pulling a big rig through traffic is nothing unless it's in close proximity to a restricted mess like downtown San Francisco - which I've done with a 75 foot long 9 car carrier. Last time I checked, Flyin J doesn't have too many waterfront locations with long term parking.....
So you're by not going with this boat you're going to trade months at a time of roominess and comfort for a couple days of easier towing??? Hmmm
Mast stepping and new tow rig. It's all a pretty big deal.
you mean i have to wait another week to sea this boat? :-(
2 weeks :-(
@@artsmith103 :-((
Just throw another axle and an LS engine in Chip.
I don't see the use for trimarans. They are a compromise of negatives. They have smaller interiors than a mono hull and a catamaran, but with a cat you can travel between hull inside the central part, but trimarans you can only access the outer hulls by going outside. in rough weather forget about going to the outer hulls. lost space, lost usage.
There are trimarans where the main hull is the same size and volume as a mono. And the tri hulls are thin and only for extra storage. Storage that you do not need to have access to during rough weather. Any add'l storage is not lost, it is more. Have no clue how you came up with that analogy.
The attractive liveaboardish cats don't fold and are thus not trailerable.
😀👍👍❤❤
"A great place for a couple of kids to play." Hmmmm. Congratulations?????
I don’t know your price range (none my business) but I wonder if you guys are SET on a sailing boat? I watch this other couple on channel NautiStyles. If you’re willing to spend for a Trimaran, you might want to look at what they bought. It’ll go anywhere, but it’s not a sailing boat.
The price of diesel fuel is the dealbreaker for a powerboat. Sailboats use far less fuel and use no fuel when sailing.
@@yankeexpress Plus the noise, and compared to a tri, diesel is slow. Their style of cruising is 50-100 miles per day. At generous mpg of 6 mpg that's ~10 or more gallons per day. Have to pay marina rate of ~$6/gal. Horribly unattractive. Plus what about break downs out at sea?
Why can’t you upgrade your vehicle with the money that you’ll be saving from not having Marina rental. It’s so obvious that it’s perfect and comfortable for you and your family and most importantly you can stand up AND stretch out in many places and that’s not easy to find all in the same place…..whether it’s this one or another I hope you won’t concede the height! (I’m tall too….lol!)
Mast is a big problem. It's too wide for normal unrestricted towing and travel.
