In this episode we redesign the Portofino 47 into a 52 foot boat and make significant changes to the hull shape to improve performance and increase the ease at which she can rise up out the water to overcome the displacement hull speed. We also discuss how flybridges negatively affect performance and have to decide if we are happy to sacrifice that for better performance....
We have further in-depth discussions with Raffaele about whether to have daggerboards or centreboards, power systems, air tight voids and more...
Find out the exciting innovative features that Portofino is offering with transom doors, central engines with shafts, front trampoline ladder to the the water and now lifting keeps and Shallow draft. So this all means that the only outstanding factor is to get confirmation of the boats performance so we look into the process for getting VPPs (Velocity Performance Program) or Polars done to get an accurate idea of what she will do on the water....

It makes a LOT of sense to work with an experienced designer and manufacture to build a custom boat that exactly meets your needs. Don't compromise on anything. As an example, some of the 2nd rate lithium battery companies will probably contact you in order to install their stuff in your boat. Don't do it. I truly hope that you build the "ultimate" boat for you. You know what you want. I am going to say it again: Don't compromise!

Great looking boat, good decision on removing the fly bridge, you need to maximise the sail area without stretching the mast upwards for performance and reduce weight for clear reasons. Peter @ sif had a good discussion on sailing performance metrics over the weekend. Take care folks

Oh my goodness! This is so exciting! 🎊 I love the look of the catamaran without the fly bridge. It looks so much sleeker and faster. The fly bridge gives them a “tipping over” look. If that is the only sacrifice you make to get your dream cat than I think it’s a worthy decision. Now, let’s talk about that upright residential refrigerator 😮 I LOVE it 😍 No more bending over and digging in a box. Lol 😆 This is truly a customized boat and if you pass on this beauty I’m sure you will always dream about this catamaran and what could have been! I pray the performance numbers come in where you want them too so you can pull the trigger. I’m so excited to see the next video 😊
2AM what were u thinking, lucky I have insomnia hey. Ok it's only a 2 yr wait, I was very surprised I was waiting to hear 4 or 5yr wait, so u still have the Leopard unless that was used as the deposit🤣🤣 So we can sail that around for awhile, but please don't scratch it as resale value needs to be high. I'm sure uv done the value performance thingy already, as u said that would be the deciding issue. And we really do need to Order it NOW, because uv done this review, there will be people placing orders left, right an centre. I'm so bloody Excited, my face is aching from smiling. I'm so looking forward to u sailing her home, so I can give u both a big hug and Thankyou for bringing Barefoot home to me.😲🤣😂😁 so much love c ya Ron.

What an exciting boat.
I know that there are not many examples of Foil Assist on cruising cats at the moment but this is one method of lifting the huls out of the water and gaining that extra speed you guys are looking for.
