  • Join Barefoot Doctors Sailing as we take the next step in the creation of the ULTIMATE Catamaran for us! We share the details of the further design processes for the steering station and how to make your cockpit and steering station waterproof.... We also run through the cost and key features of the Portofino 52 and why it is such a unique design.
We also share the reality of sailing in rough weather with water all over the aft cockpit seats and having howling winds and sea water pounding us in the steering station because of the absence of drop downs and we see how water just falls into the cockpit from the big space of the steering station.
We also share an update on the building progress of the Portofino 47 and join us as we visit amazing places in Dubai and fulfil one of Eli's long term dreams to go for a balloon ride over the Sahara Desert. That is followed by breakfast in a Bedouin camp, camel rides, falcon flying and being the Bedouin Princess (Eli - not John!)
Some come Barefoot with us on this exciting journey!!!
Binge watch and come barefoot with us as we travel and explore the planet, mostly from the water but sometimes through the minds of others as we provide aid and support where needed through the amazing TUFMINDS solutions!

    So excited for you both!
My husband and I are watching saying... "I want that too! And that! and That!! These two know exactly what we want. It looked like there were so many thing we had to give up for some performance. No longer. I am curious about a rooftop chill lounge, not a nav area, but cocktail spot."
I would love to talk to the Portafino folks. We are 1 year away or so. Sounds like you are two years away from your boat.
Closing up for weather is huge! I love the idea of the window, it would necessitate covering up the lines, love that even more. they would last and last.
Looking forward to seeing all your options and all the details.
We are along with you for the ride!! Lets go!

Great to have you along with us!!! Our completion date is expected to be Christmas next year ( sounds better than Jan 2025!) We are planing to have flat cushion on the saloon roof that can pull up as back rest so we can use it when we want…
The build time is 2 years but Portofino does have a waiting list already so don’t wait too long if you are serious… All the best, Eli and John

@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 we emailed this Portofino morning. I wonder if they are going to Cannes….
If you covered all the lines going into the cockpit that may allow for a window. I can’t imagine how it will work. But excited to see how they figure it out. It really is a problem.
Also curious to see how you like the stairs to the top deck. We just chartered a leopard in the Abacos. It was really awkward to get to the sales. You had to go all the way up to the front of the boat, climb the stairs. Also awkward to get to the flybridge. So I’m really curious how you’re going to handle the stairs. You have so many other great ideas. I’m sure you’ll like this one out of the park too

As a naval architect I'm absolutely with you about the choice. Thought myself about retractable centreboards. This will give you great performance (hopefully) and even allow to change the longitudinal centre of appendages. I'd wait with the choice of the propulsion and electric systems as well. There are plenty of new battery technologies on the way. A Canadian company has announced a salt battery to be ready for production this year. I'm working on the same software by the way. Recognized it on the first screenshot with typical appearance.

Blade cells offer advantages over round cells for Lithium batteries.
But Na Al and Sulphur technologies offer huge advantages over Li tech in terms up to 4 times the capacity faster charging and temperature tolerances...especially in the lower end..
They are also coming into production this year.
The motor regen generators are massively powerful and compact already in the automotive industry.

Using hybrid power systems they used aircon and heating as and when and used 800L of fuel for the whole trip.. the rest came from solar and regen a bit from a wind turbine. You will havet search for the article or any external links just get blocked and comments deleated.

Starting to like this boat more and more.... it ticks a hell of a lot of boxes. Congrats with your choice. As far as the cockpit windows: you might want to look into the solution the Amel Super Maramu has: a solution where the windows are split horizontally and slightly overlapping. The bottom part is fixed and the top part can swing open. For the OSCAR: Don't doubt, do it. I have sailed over 2.,500 miles with it and it picked up things I was not able to see. From small dark fishing buoys to unlit boats at night. I'm having an EchoPilot 3D installed for safety as well, no experience yet but looks promising. Underwatercamera's I have looked at them but nobody could convince me the lenses would stay clean over time. Best of luck and fun with the build of this beauty.

Oh my goodness! 😮 The safety additions and construction of this catamaran will bring you both the added security of knowing you are in the safest boat on the ocean! There is no price you can put on your safety and I truly believe dollar for dollar you are spending wisely. When finished you both will have raised the bar on future catamarans built by other companies. They will need to “step up” their game to even compete with Portofino. She is so beautiful even if it’s just in the blueprint stage. I’m excited for you both and so grateful you are taking us along on this journey! Thank you so much 😊 I loved the balloon 🎈 ride and so happy Eli got to check this off her list. I’m sure this won’t be her last balloon 🎈 ride as she has now got a taste of a highly addictive adventure. Both of you at dinner were absolutely gorgeous! You both looked happy and healthy. 😊 Until next time, keep the wind to your back and stay safe!

Hi luv the boat . A solution for keeping water out of cockpit , have a flexable vertical waterproof curtain on tracks both. top that will start on vertical cabin and go around to outside of steering station . This is tough to explain but it will have tracks that follow your standing platform top and bottom closing off 4' that is open to cockpit . Hope this helps

Great looking design and love the fact that experienced cruisers are able to assist in the design process. Seems like so many boats are designed by Manufacturers with their goals in mind vs Sailors. On the steering area, I am not a huge fan of the balance versa-helm. It comes across as somewhat gimmicky to me. It isn't that solid, and rather than 1 great helm, it is two so-so helms. I personally would not dedicate so much area to a 2nd steering wheel in the saloon, how often do you hand steer? You can make adjustments via autohelm, if needed, at a nav station that also functions as a desk and multipurpose area. You are really only protecting against the times it is bad weather and you need to hand steer. If it is bad weather, you will still need to work winches and trim lines, so I would focus on making that helm really good, functional and able to seal out the weather while you sail, as well as protecting the cockpit from overflow and spray.
I have often wondered if there is anyway to incorporate more of a dodger/hard window to the steering area for weather protection. It seems like the designer has some great designs and some sort of combination roll downs with a couple of folding windows could be a great solution for enclosing the steering area in foul weather. In good weather they would fold up flat to the inside of the Bimini/hard roof, and then fold down and lock in place for rain.
Btw, I doubt you remember, but we actually hung out and toured the HH with you in Annapolis in 2021 as you were starting your new search and interviewing them.
Can't wait to see this come together!

Great to see the 47 coming together. Regarding instruments, direct sunlight onto a graphic screen will overheat the device and make reading the information more difficult. In the movie industry, this problem is ever present for screens large and small. The solution is a detachable hood. Commercial versions may be available, but custom hoods will fit perfectly. They are cheaper and easily replaceable. Use velcro, coroplast and tape. Attach the hood whenever needed.

I have an Aluminum 15-meter masthead cutter monohull with two waterproof doors and 2 bulkheads. I fully agree with Aluminum as a boat-building material from a personal industrial accident experience when my boat was on the hard stand and a fiberglass boat knocked my boat over when I was antifouling.
Both boats had suffered major damage. The main difference was mine was dented, and not holed, his boat's bolted-on keel pushed out of the center and the slipway cradle I beam went straight through his hull and ripped out the galley like an eggshell. Object lesson, I will never own a fiberglass boat. Good luck with your great boat-building adventure. SV Skoiern IV

Greetings Doc's just a thought about your pilot position enclosure. a small hard pilot house (all sides ) like structure with the same negative windows that on the coach roof and a pantograph (popout) door, access to cockpit below would remain accessible?! It would look integral to the design aesthetics and provide the protective desires for both you and gear. that said the windows could be dropped down like in an old Jeep / landrover or slide open for good weather days and depending on glass used you could install IR film (if the glass can't be ordered with it) this will cut thermal heat by 90% without any loss of visibility! companies like trendmarine make the doors, windows etc. just for visual idea take a peek at (of course scale to your cat's needs) wellcraft 355, Arctic boats, sunreef and sunseeker use the popout doors, metal shark patrol boats, rafnar rib, some river boats etc. thanks for sharing your journey, Blessings.

Thank you for another great video. Congratulations on ordering your new boat.
Some thoughts about your boat and previous comments.
Folding keels and rudders are great but please verify that they will function after an angled strike. Few impacts will be aligned directly with the direction in which they fold.
Cockpit daybed: Adding sunbed style backrest brackets to lift part of the mattress to a backrest may facilitate common seat width.
Sealed air voids made in Dubai should have little moisture for condensation to occur unside. Please ensure you know how the builder verifies sealing of these voids. Pin holes in welds are common. Holing a sealed void would be most likely low in the void and water intake would be limited to just above the hole by the air above the water. Many pontoon tanks have holes in the base to adjust the pontoon standing height. If needed compressed air is blown into the holes to raise the pontoon.
Lightning protection: I've designed lightning and earthing systems for a few hundred Australian installations including for areas exceeding 180 thunder-days per annum. Having seen severe damage to a building fitted with a proprietary system, I suggest you avoid such systems. I suggest you ensure your system conform to Australian Standard: AS1768-Lightning protection.
An aluminium vessel with an aluminium mast is an ideal situation. I suspect your masthead will be more than 45m above the sea. Thus in addition to top strikes, the mast and its stay wires may be exposed to side strikes. The mast surface may be damaged by such a strike but that should be all. I assume the stays will exceed 10mm dia. but if they don't I suggest you ensure they are at least 10mm dia. but preferably 12mm or more. Adding a 10mm dia. 600mm to 1.5m 316SS or al rod above your masthead would minimize direct strikes to your masthead. I assume the builder will conductively mount suitable 316SS plates submerged below water level on the inside of each hull. The shorter the distance from any lightning strike to the sea the better. Should you desire more info. please comment accordingly and i will email you.
All the best for your boat build and for your journeys during the build. Enjoy life and keep smiling.

WOW Pinetree, that is great information! Those run head leaks are already being checked for in the #1 Portofino 47 so hopefully that will be done through out...
We are still to look into the details of lightning protection and it does seem that some providers are more intent on the money they can make from using unproven devices than actually finding tiger evidence... I will check the details of the shrouds although our mast is about 25m long and few more metres about the water. It will be aluminium and we hope to break the wires taking any electric shocks inside the boat as we heard that was a common problem.
That rod to the top of the mast sounds like a good idea and I am not sure about the 316SS opkates under the water as the whole boat is AL... If you can give us more information about how to go forward and how you know all this stuff (your job?) that would be great. We want to investigate all the issues around lighting and then make an episode about it - do you want contribute to that too???

As far as the helm station is concerned Sailing Zatara has a very good helm set up that is well protected and it is only about 16 or so inches above the roof of the cabin below. I was surprised that you are planning as high a set up to operate the boat from. Episode 113 is the boat tour of their Prestige 585 catamaran you can see the helm as they have it now. It appears to be lower than what I think you are planning on your cat. I found you today on my home page and I have subscribed woo hoo!!

Glad to have you one board, P Bear! The main issue with height is to see both bows from the steering position and that usually needs standing up a bit to see down to the bow level at the front. We certainly don't want the steering roof to be higher than we need (as it creates windage) but it needs to be higher enough to see well... Thanks for the comment and we will look into it. The steering station can be adjusted very late int eh build process so there is still plenty of time....

Okay, I downloaded the brochures from Portofino and started playing with the stern of the boat. Turns out you can add quite a bit of space if the hull stairs turn 90 degrees for the last step.
If the brochures are close extending the top also adds almost a meter, which is pretty cool, the extra space may make a slide over cover for the cockpit feasible.
With the stairs being turned access to the salon platform with ladders allows the tender platform to be used like a beach.
I would like your opinion on the drawings, It would be nice to see if they make sense, If you have a generalized email I can forward the picts if your willing.

I like the helm on the Dix 550! If beefed up with kelvar on the bottoms and carbon fiber reinforced cross bulkheads that boat could be great at a quarter or even fifth of the cost! But it,s a kit! Huge elephant to eat!! The helm is just behind the mast inside the salon and all lines are controlled in front of the mast! The 550 is the DNA used in the gunboats!

Thanks for that info Russell. I have never sailed a boat in that configuration and the advantages are the reduced pulleys and the more direct winching of the lines but I (personally) think that I do not want to be handling the lines so close to the crashing waves and spray at the front of the boat.... But as I have not done it, that is just a presumption but would hate to build a boat and discover that it is too exposed for our liking! We are happy with the line controls to the steering position behind the saloon bulkhead.

This is a really cool boat, and I really think the style is top notch, but is the seat in the aft area sitting on just the first step? Typically seating is done at about 450mm from the floor give or take for leg room. Its hard to tell, the models look right on the cad but some of the "pictures" look low?
I really like this boat, but for me I think I would add the extra 300 mm to the cabins and remove the steps going from the salon to the sugar scoops.
I would also move remove the poles and connect the center of the hulls at the stairs.
The slats shown in the 57 footer (where your steps are for top access) would make a nice accent. I would also extend the top to allow for more solar.
I really think turning the steps 90 degrees and going up to the platform would be cool, when the platform is in the water the turn steps functions as a seat on both sugar scoops.
Overall this looks awesome and I think your going to get pretty excited as the day finally arrives!

@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 Great, I think you're going to love the boat. I reread my comments, it wasn't all that clear unfortunately. I know I said get rid of the poles, but really I meant widen the pole position by connecting to the beam in between the flip up door and the stairs.
The real reason for moving the poles (sexy curves) to the middle of the beam allows for the hull stairs and the flip up door to slide 300+ mm toward the stern. The 45 angle for the stairs that currently service the sugar scoops can get modified to be connected to the swim platform.
If I had the cad file I would give it a go for you. Your literally building the boat with all the goodies I could ask for... ah, well some day...

I was a bit critical when I first saw your polar's video and thought you were being taken for a ride by the builder. I have since watched a few more of your video and see you have more experience than what is first apparent.
The more I see of this boat, the more I like it. It looks like an awesome build.
Lots of features match a build I have one paper for a custom expedition catamaran. I am really surprised no other builder has built a boat similar stature yet!!
I'll be following the build, really interested to see if it hits the published numbers when launched. I'm really impressed with the built weight. I have a built weight on paper for a slightly larger build at 25t, although I am looking for a larger load capacity as an expedition boat.

Thanks for the comments and for watching Darren! And yes we will also be interested in the real performance figures after the boat is launched too! There are builders that do AL boat much lighter too although they are usually much thinner skins and less supports. The nice thing with AL is that each boat is a new build so each can be modified (within reason) to suit each owner for icebergs, performance, layouts etc...

This is a great looking boat. Lots of unique innovative features. I am interested in how the centreboards will be reinforced. The ill -ated Gunboat 55 had centreboards and there were problems with the centreboard boxes flexing because the boards were a long lever supported in a relatively low profile centreboard box. I suspect that they can be made robust with aluminum and I am interested in seeing the design of the supporting structure.

Really neat video. Living the life.
Take a look at the Mumby's rudders. There's some method where they have blocks of wood bracing the rudders. If they hit anything the wood breaks, the rudder floats free - undamaged (and tethered). Might also work for the swinging dagger boards. Sailing Life Jupiter YT Channel has a Mumby and has broken the rudder blocks.
Steps: When we go up or down a stair/ladder that we use all the time we tend to do it one way. So the alternating steps, left right, left right should work really well. I was once behind some Japanese hikers going up a mountain, they had to crawl scramble over some rocks. Slow. Because I was last I had time to think about it. So when it was my turn I just went zip zap zip, stood up on top. Some very amateur rock climbing moves. (Side bracing was the key. ) On a boat that's what I would always go for. Secure, quick. (The opposite of this are those grand but half height stairs. You can't quite take two, but just one seems like stutter stepping.)

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  Год назад

Thanks again for your input Will! Good advice re steps. We have looked at the Mumby and their solution and the concept of sacrificial pins / wood are also used for the centreboards and rudders but using a compression fitting that releases under pressure, means that nothing breaks and the board / rudder can just be lowered again without any intervention or repair. SO that is the direction we are heading at present.

The new boat is going to be amazing. You said in the last video to comment on proposed changes you were making, not sure that I like that you are making a fixed change to the bench seat below the stairs to fly bridge, I agree with what you said that it would be nice having this bench be wider to be able to lie down, rather make this a pull-out base to create the so called bed area and use the backrest as the pull-out mattress. Having a wide area for seating is going to be a huge problem when someone needs to sit back on that back rest, having it wide is ok but normal or double bed size is going to be very restricting long term. This way you will also need to leave the stairway you you propose. Cheers Chris

      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  Год назад

Thanks for the feedback Chris and your points are very valid. We have discussed the fact that a wide day bed does not work well as a seat as you have to sit way in and your legs have to be up - so it becomes a lounging seat only. And only great for those used to sitting in yoga poses so I'd better start practicing! Eli likes the idea of having a good day bed and yoga practice area and this is what HH55s have as well (so I presume it is proven...) It is not a double bed size and there is plenty of space in the cockpit and I prefer to have things fixed in place so they can't blow away... We will look at the dimensions again and double check how it will work. Ta!

Does the front cockpit door on the Portofino 47 and your 52 open in two parts - like a dutchdoor? I would think the recessed sloping glass open in and up separately. And the solid lower door opens out.
Floor plan layout idea: If the front cockpit door is centred on the front wall for symmetry - like the Sunreef50 - would add kitchen counter along the front wall for Eg. oven and coffee maker.

Balloon rides have the most unglamorous entry and exit. 🤣🤣🤣🤣After Christmas, we took an unplanned trip to Ft Myers Florida, we went to where hurricane Ian had hit the hardest, we thought they needed our tourist $$. We actually went on a "day sail" well, 2 hrs🤣 on a 50' cat, it had a front tramp ladder, I thought it was amazing, but an FYI, we were close to the beach and it wasn't too rough out, but the ladder was thrashing up and down with every wave, crew had to hold it down, two stood halfway down off to each side and the other was standing on the bottom rail. If they had of had some brace to secure it rigid, that might have helped it from bouncing up and down. The other problem was, you can't go down facing the ladder because it would have smashed you in the face, you have to exit facing forward and there really was nothing to hold onto. Perhaps some kind of brace to keep it rigid that could also double as something to hold onto. Love following this journey.

Want to understand the sliding door location. Between the helm and weather deck not between the helm and cockpit? Sliding doors do not stow well for windage. On homes, french exterior doors can have the option to have a screen rolled vertically like a mast fuller. I wonder if rolling instead of sliding could work. Not sure, just an odd thought. I assume part of the storage under the helm would include a foot well for sheet/halyard tails. Protecting the instruments: I can not think of why like my quad controller you could not have a sun hood. More durable and made from aluminum with a black matte finish inside and a white gloss finish outside (rolled edges). It would help protect from water drops and make reading the instruments easier with fewer reflections (you could probably turn down the brightness lowing power consumption). :)
Unrelated: I have been thinking of solar panel placement on a boat we are considering. The best location based on shadows on a cat would be aft of the main cockpit roof. This of course has been done many times but I have not seen it with bifacial panels. The new bifacial panels are more efficient because the bottom layer is glass not opaque. Solar power is generated from not only the sun hitting the top surface but also reflected/refracted light striking the bottom of the panel. I can not think of a better application than collecting light bouncing off the water! The bifacial panel's pattern is attractive giving a filtered almost pergola quality of light/shade. I am with you... shade is important. Sorry for the unrelated tangent but I know you guys are considering more than the content of your videos.

Thanks for showing us this process - since we will be doing the same thing in 5 to 8 years it is very helpful. I’m interested to know how the payment structure works with the yard, are there milestones when you owe different amounts of the purchase price or do you pay all at once (start or end of construction?).
As for some ideas to consider on the design - have you considered instead of airtight voids to fill those voids with fire resistant and non-absorbent foam? You would get 90% of the floating power without the worry that the void would fill if compartment was punctured or had a failure. I think it would also probably reduce construction costs.
For insulation, Garcia has learned a lot from their years of experience building aluminum monohulls and they use a closed cell black foam against the bulkhead that helps not only insulate but also reduce the natural sweating that occurs from aluminum hulls.
Also from Garcia, for the outside steering station, did you consider the swinging helm that allows you to move yourself into the cockpit to steer in bad weather?
The engine rooms and walk around beds are great!
Any idea of the diesel capacity? If you want to be able to do things like the inside passage to Alaska, where sailing is often impractical, having a long fuel range would be nice. :)

      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  Год назад +1

Lots of good info, thanks Captain! I am not sure if all the boats are done the same but we have staged payments over the build time of the boat.
      - Foam is a great idea but I thought that all foams were flammable so would add fuel to any fire - hopefully that is incorrect and it can be done.
      - Diesel capacity is your choice cause the tanks are just built into the hulls.
      - Garcias insulation is good (we have seen it) but it is significantly heavy. We are not planning to do the iceberg areas though - we don't like the cold!
      - Yes many nice features in the design!
Thanks for the detailed comment and for following! Good luck on your path to your own boat...

A Selectable propulsion system and so do Antares I think ..these systems can run either or but the compact nature and reliability of a Diesel generate electric system does save wt space and complexity.
Plus having a modular power train allows you to update the diesel generator motors and theres little or no need for any gearboxes or clutches.. to ware or maintain.
You can run for 4 hrs on a typical charged pack ..
The other thing is a the generators will improve in terms of size wt and efficiency with the use of more compact ICE motors that freed of direct drive and fluctuating revs and short inefficient run times will be more efficient and longer lived.
Two motors help you manoeuvre in close quarters ..tank turns.lol in silence

Forgive my ignorance, but what safety/water ingress concerns might the aft doors to the cabin present? They look great! I’ve just noticed on following seas that a lot of water comes onto the aft platforms. Thanks.

Hi Jay and thanks for commenting again! Yes water does come up onto the aft transom but seldom as far forward as the door position. In extreme situations the door closes from the outside so any wave hitting it, forces it to seal tighter and it will be to a standard of a watertight hatch and not just a "door". Water hitting will also just drain away fast and not pool either.

One observation/Question: In the video the welding appears to be "point-based" instead of a continuous double sided weld like what you see on "Distant Shores" new boat. Is this because it's an intermediate step before adding more welding or is it sufficient????

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567

Hi Martin, thanks for watching and the comment. Yes that is to hold the AL in place before the final weld because the amount of heat that is produced in the full weld makes the AL warp if it is not spot welded first... Also see all those strips of AL on the outside of the boat - that is the same - to hold the AL in correct position while the main welds are done and to reduce movement of the sheets.

Hey John and Ellie, great episode again this week as usual. I also spent some time in Dubai and really enjoyed the Bedouin camp that you both went to. I really enjoyed the belly dancing, although I think I threw my back out just watching. I was interested in many of the features you discussed in your video this week. And I've been thinking at length about the ability to raise the centre boards and rudders - which is of course a great feature and necessary in many many parts of the world. However, whilst I realise that the centre boards will self raise upon hitting a solid object, I'm wondering have you considered if you hit a small reef, one only partially submerged - as opposed to high and dry rocks and a positive land strike - have you thought of having a rear anchor deployable off the stern, either on the main deck under the raisable platform between the two hulls with a winch to allow winching back onto the anchor, ie. OFF a reef - or perhaps two anchors, one in each sugar scoop with the commensurate winches? This would be advantageous when one or two hulls are perforated (seeing as you have watertight compartments), the boat could still be floated off or winched off, and then sailed to the nearest port for repairs. These would also be advantageous in various anchorages around the world, where one would like to be more confidant about ones anchored position in waters that maybe or are: choppy; confused, with eddies and currents; or beset with difficult windage. I know you asked for our thoughts and comments, and that mine add considerable expense to the exercise. But hey, just putting it out there. What expense peace of mind? Let me know what you think.
Fairwinds and following sees to the both of you. Don't get too excited yet it's still two years away. Cheers TB.

Thanks for the input Garth! Glad you enjoyed the balloon ride too! Yes we always use a stern anchor when beaching to reduce the sideways drift (protect the antifoul and paint) so we will have that and use the stern or the kite winches but have to launch it out manually. The Aluminium Fortress anchor is really good for that cause it is light and can be carried easily and launched from the dinghy if it can't be walked out.

Electric drive motor random thoughts: Instead of marine lithium batteries, could a Tesla solar Power-wall product work onboard a catamaran? Or like Caravan/RV campers have done, could you use 82 kWh Tesla flat battery pack(s) salvaged from scrapped cars to give you enough power storage at a reasonable price to consider an electric drive? Hallo from Greece. First and foremost, i see the welding is not complete, minute 15:00 and 17:00. The welding quality is wery important with aluminum. Are there shaft drives? The helm is a compromise always. Balance cats has implemented the pivoting wheel very well. When thinking about protecting the steering station, i see everyone is thinking of something to pull down. something to pull up is also an option. "Windows" made of glass laying flat ahead of the instruments and on the left and behind the steerind position could seal very well. The right side could benefit from something that can be lifted up which may go down fast if needed. As for the instruments shade, video monitors have add on shades for outdoor use. Another idea is if the hole bimini could go down like a tripod with 4 legs or like a table with tripod legs.

Very interesting! You went over what design features the boat comes with, but you didn't go through any of the actual details of what you really get when it comes to what makes the boat sail for that base price:
    1) Dacron Sails or performance laminate? Main and Jib, only or do you get any additional head sails?
    2) How many winches? What brand, what Size? Electric or manual? I only see 2 in the video with no consideration for how to handle your code sails. What about clutches and line handling, it doesn't appear they've thought through this yet.
    3) Mast - Aluminum or Carbon Fiber? Manufacturer?
    4) Navigation/Electronics? What does it come with? One 9" Raymarine chart plotter or are you getting multiple plotters, MFD's and autopilot?
    5) Radar?
    6) Solar? How much, rigid or flexible? Is each panel have an individual controller for shading?
    7) Refrigeration/freezers? How many, what size?
    8) Watermaker? Brand/size?
    9) How many kWh is the lithium battery bank?
    10) Is the boat equipped with dual voltage 110/220 or do you have to choose?
    11) Air Conditioning? How many units?
    12) What engines come with the base price? Size/manufacturer.
    13) Who is the manufacturer of this DC Generator? Are you talking about Integrel included in the base price
    14) Electric toilets or hand pumpers?
    15) Is all induction cooking part of the base price or extra?
    16) Are there shades for all the windows in the saloon or is that extra?
    17) Are all the cushions included in the forward cockpit and rear?
    18) Is the Flexiteak flooring for the cockpit included or extra?
    19) Underwater lighting included?
    20) Is the full enclosure included or extra?
To just say the base boat costs $1.4M is a little misleading without explaining what you actually get for those dollars. It might be a fantastic value people should be running to place their deposits on, or it could be terrible value when compared to other boats currently available...sailing catamarans are such complex ecosystems with so many variables that without having the basic details above, it is impossible to tell if what you are buying is a good value or not. They appear to be making it up as they go along, which is great since you get to have your input, but a little scary as well if they haven't thought through the deck hardware yet of how you'll actually sail a performance boat. Cheers!

When we have actually decided ourselves on the options we will chose, we will make a full video about it. With all the brands, they give a ball park quote and some do make that cheap but you have to buy everything incl the anchor but for reference the inclusions are 4 pages and options are only 2 pages, so hopefully that gives you some idea. The price includes the essentials for sailing...
