This may be my favorite Trail Recon video! First, it’s an area where I’ve hiked if that was near Corte Madera. The lookout tower reminds me of the one on Lyons Peak as well as Edward Abbey and his book, Desert Solitaire. Second, your advice for folks new to this recreation was well considered and well delivered. Good, practical stuff.
Lots of great tips for new drivers. I love helping new drivers teaching them how to get into 4 low. So many people have no idea. They have a loaded rubicon and have zero idea what all the buttons do! Teach them! We all have been there.
After 34 years in the fire service here in San Diego County, I really enjoyed your trip through our beautiful back country when it wasn't on fire. Great photography and great content.
Thank you so much! And yes, it's great enjoying our backcountry without smoke and trails closed due to fires. We've lived in San Diego off and on for about 30 years and know all about the fires. We were living in Poway in 2003 and 2007 and remember the Cedar and Witch Creek fires well. In 2003, Jordan went as a fireman for Halloween and got more candy than his brothers trick or treating!
I love what you said Brad about attitude when on trail. I believe it’s second only to your vehicle being properly maintained and knowing it’s limits. Attitude is so important when things go wrong or your not comfortable. I have zero ego. But most of all is enjoying the moment. Thank you Brad for sharing one of our favorite areas to wheel
I'm just getting into off-roading and overlanding. This was the first place I went to. I was able to drive up to the lookout and also was able to talk with the lookout guy. Definitely made my day way better seeing how it operates and what you could see from it. Now I just need to find people to go out with as most of the time I travel alone.
It's a great trail and having the opportunity to speak with locals and folks working in the fire towers makes it such a great experience. If you missed it, the video before this one was all about wheeling solo, ruclips.net/video/Ruwj16qzzMo/видео.htmlsi=zVfOv4oYvMK6NzCO.
Always a great day when TrailRecon Uploads a new video! Also love these videos on each trail, very good editing! Have you been to Azusa Canyon mudding?
Great video! Hot tip for the people watching and thinking about running those trails you just did. The top 1/2 is mellow and fun. Great views and not super challenging. The bottom 1/2… plan on paint damage and ground clearance issues unless you have a decently upgraded rig. I’ve done it in a stock Chevy Colorado zr2 and my paint was never the same. Started it in my Jeep gladiator Mojave and turned back ( mainly to save the paint ). The top 1/2 to the fork below the fire lookout is where you’ll want to stop if you like your paint job :).
I miss these types of videos! Reminds me of when you first started your channel. I live about 30 minutes from corral caynon. Espinosa is definitely an easy trail that can be done in a stock jeep. I like to do it in reverse and drive up the "waterfall." You should check out sidewinder trail out there. Nothing crazy. I consider it intermediate. But definitely has some interesting spots on it.
Great tips especially about knowing your vehicle! The first time I went wheeling I thought I had put my Tacoma in 4 low and it was beeping at me to let me know it wasn't engaged. My wife asked why it was beeping and I just said "It's probably to let you know you're in 4 low". She never lets me live it down now. 🤣
liquid death was made by a former beer drinker that had a problem with drinking... so he made water that looked like it so he felt like he was drinking a beer Great day on the trail. thanks for sharing your adventure
Been sd all my life never knew of those trails thanks! One thing newbies may also need to know is how each vehicle comes out of 4low the right way my old 95 f150 has to back up always!
Cleaning up after your stop for lunch, yes! Leaving the area better off than when you arrived, absolutely! I'm impressed that you passed on that information to others. Thank you.
Love your videos. Rode RZRs for years and just recently transitioned last year to a stock 2022 Gladiator Rubicon as my only off roader and you definitely learn what you want (or may need) to add later when you ride your vehicle in stock configuration for a while. Added clearance (2" lift and 35's) and a new bumper with a winch will likely be all I want on that truck since it is a daily driver also and I plan to eventually get a used Wrangler at some point as my trail rig.
Great video as I always like when you bring out the JK! Thanks for taking us along on the trails. Will be looking at doing some of those this coming winter!! Cheers
Ah, poison oak! It is just everywhere in CA. One time back at the office the itch was driving my bonkers. In desperation I looked around our lunchroom kitchen for anything which might bring some relief. The solution FOR ME ( your mileage might vary etc.) was Windex. Works like a charm, stops the itch dead in its tracks and even has reduced my sensitivity. I just spray it on the itch, rub it in well, let sit for 10 minutes and then rinse off with water. And yes, I am exposed to poison oak regularly just hiking, or even in one area of my forested yard.
We have several fire lookouts back in my home town area of Washington State in the Okanogan National Forest. Unfortunately there are only 7 left in an area that used to have nearly 30! Lost another in wild fires 3 years ago. Would have loved it if you could show the old dude on watch! Thanks Master Blaster!
Me and my group took Los Pinos to Espinoza a few months ago. Got like a .2 mile into Espinosa and had to turn around! Lol Trail had HUGE boulders and super deep ruts. Getting up there was fun. We were so off camber you could literally touch the ground if u put your hand out the window lol
Nice video Brad’s I was part of the of the group who made the original trails in Coral Canyon back in the very early 1980s. We literally turned the jeeps and drove right through the Manzanita and we hit a boulder. We made a turn after we did this and made a few trails, the ranger brought the prisoners up and cut the trails for us this was with the Tierra Del Sol four wheel Drive club.
As always top level videos chief! Keep up the good work! Kind of jealous of those 71 degrees since I’m TDY in Texas and it’s hot as a Jeep 4.0 engine. 😂
Your part about not being afraid to be cautious was on point. In my early days I nearly got myself in trouble a few times back in the 90s with my 72 Blazer. Even years later I have a couple digs in my Ramcharger because I miss judged some spots. I’d add be sure to have a spotter you trust and don’t be afraid to tell others who you want spotting. Our last big trip to Moab I had a spot that four different people were shouting instructions. I finally had to turn it off and give them what I wanted and who.
Sidewinder and gunslinger (including the off shoots) will be good trails for you to do but the Bronco peak connector is probably too much unless you are cool with possible body damage. I have done all the trails in the area so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
HI BRAD 👋 BREATHTAKING BEAUTY VIEWS COLORS LANDSCAPE WEATHER VIDEO FOOTAGE 📹 LIKED THE FIRE TOWER WAS VERY INTERESTING & GORGEOUS SCENERY ! I BET THEY GET TO SEE ALL KINDS OF WILDLIFE THROUGH THE SEASONS ❤BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 🙏
Thank you! We all had to start somewhere and I want to inspire people to get out there and have adventures but do it safely and with respect for the trails.
Thanks for this and the Rattlesnake video as they helped me focus on my 2022 Willys Sport build; which is still OEM at this point. It hit me during these videos that the parts of your channel that my wife & I like the most is “once” you’re at camp. Either cooking as a couple or with Marcos. The driving, especially off road, is just a bother we endure to get to a remote camp. I realized watching these last two videos that I’d never just spend a day driving my Jeep around in the dirt. If there is no camping; I’d rather just play golf for the afternoon. Thus I now know that my stock Willys Edition with its LSD is plenty of Jeep for my needs; what I need to be doing is things like dual batteries, long range gas tanks and the Goose Gear Kitchen. Start with your convenient Silver Ground Tent and either upgrade to an RTT or the Ursa Minor. The only tire, wheels, gearing etc. might be adjustable shocks in the back to level the Jeep when fully packed with camping gear. THANKS, these recent videos really helped me focus in on what I really WANT to be doing with my Jeep. P.S. Years ago we lived in San Diego and we never once went past that nice restaurant up in Alpine except on our drives home to New Mexico; everyone in the 80’s was always going to the OHV Dunes and I never had any interest. I don’t know how I missed this, I’ve been kinda frustrated with my Jeep because there is soo much that I supposedly “need” to do to it BEFORE I can go camping. When in reality all those upgrades are if your interested in driving off road not camping. That seems so obvious but I totally missed it. LOL!
I walked through poison oak as a little kid at my Maternal Grandpa’s yard in Grants Pass, Oregon and then rode my mountain bike through in college while attending Oregon State. I rinsed the oil off with my water bottle mountain biking but I don’t remember any oil as a kid. Didn’t get any ranch either time. Still not going to press my luck in the future.
I have ridden dirt bikes all over the Corral Canyon trails. It was literally one of the toughest areas I have ever experienced. This video just brought back a ton of memories. It was hard on a bike, can't imagine in a 4WD. We even got to meet the smoke watcher several times. He was very cool. This was back in the eighties and early 90's. Love your videos!
I love your videos, they are very informational and inspiring. So much I just bought my first Jeep To head out there and visit where you've been. I'll start here in Texas 👍🏼
Ahhh so nice to see an old style video with my top 2 favorite JK. Every time I watch your videos with that Jeep, I am inspired to get mine where I want it.
Thank you! Modifications are great, but Jeeps are pretty capable right out of the box. Definitely take your time and be thoughtful about the modifications so you don't overbuild (been there, done that), going with needs first, wants second.
We did that ride Thursday night , saw a beautiful sunset and the missile launch. Doing it a night was awesome, finished on Diamondback trail then went home . Great place!
The hike to Corte Madre's peak is amazing. Last time I was there we were treated to around a dozen golden eagles flying about who nest in the stone cliffs. Did Corral Canyon with my dad in his 2004 Land Rover Defender a few years back, but we had to turn around halfway after we encountered over heating issues. Still a great time and a fun trail with awesome views. Enjoyed your video.
I remember driving in Corral Canyon OHV with my dad many years ago in the early to late 2000s and the fire watch tower road used to be completely dirt. Along with the entire drive up to the staging area. It was more fun back then. I haven't been back in a very long time. The last time my dad and I went we visited the Fire Watcher in the tower and learned a lot. That part was cool.
Best describe my offroad style as "opposite-Brad". Began offroad exploring with my ole 2nd or 3rd hand Ford Pinto Wagon. Carried a pair of snow chains and that was it. Later over the years bought various new 4x4 rigs, just hit the trails and drove. Rarely if ever looked at their manuals. Punctured a sidewall and had to review its jack instructions to change out the spare. One flat in my life. Though probably hundreds of bicycle flats. I only carry bicycle repair tools and a come-along (used once to get out of a muddy ditch in Baja). I agree with Brad's sound advice, but will be the day I carry all that gear, just tow a spare Jeep, hehe.
Even in low range, don't desend steep grades in drive with an automatic transmission. Don't lock up your brakes, you may slide out of control on loose gravel. And as a newcomer, don't go alone.
Excellent advice, at the end of the day it's your vehicle, barring substantial sponsorship or deep pockets, you'll have to fix your vehicle no one else.
Took Nate Harrison trail up Palomar Mt. last year. The smokewatchers invited us to the top of their tower as well. All the same equipment and splendid views.
Thanks for all the tips. Even the more experienced ones need reminding of things, especially if we're out with a less experienced person. Until next time... Travel Safe.
Nice to see the JK still getting after it. It's a clean build but capable. That's nice that the fire lookout was so welcoming and happy to show off the ranger. Great tips and looks like a nice trail to try after getting some experience.
Thank you for the great advice! I have started a channel after getting a 2004 WJ and watching Your channel. Your channel inspires me every time I watch! keep going …keep filming. It is crazy how the Off-Road bug hits the good positive feels!
Another good video Brad. Your advice is sound and like how you pick your lines and tire placement. You make all of us better drivers and citizens. Thank You
Great video. Beautiful scienery. And proper advices. Totally agree on not rushing to modify the vehicle- more so: anyone should firstly watch some old Camel trophy events - after all, they’ve been done with stock vehicles!
I love your videos! they're so real. I have a 2022 bronco and im kind of new to off-roading! I appreciate the comment you made about not upgrading the heck out of the car at the very beginning. It's very true! I took my car out for some time and now I believe what needs to changed/installed. :)
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the content. I wheeled my first Jeep stock for most of the first year and ever since, I always get a feel for my new vehicles before making modifications.
I remember the first time I ever went offroading, it was in my 2004 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4. in the Tillamook state forest I did not over due it I stuck to the easy trails, tried a medium trail and it did great on that one. After a couple years of taking it on those trails and taking it on the beach alot, the transfer case gave out. That was the only thing that "broke" on it.
The video was excellent. I am a trainer myself with the Desert Wranglers in Las Vegas and I teach the 101 Off-Road course with my wife and we always stress the idea of getting to know your vehicle before upgrades are made. Great job on another fantastic trail ride.
Thank you! I always get to know my vehicles before making modifications. It's important to know what your vehicle can do before deciding what you want it to do differently.
Great video Brad you definitely need to come back to Corral Canyon. It has a lot more to offer other than the fire road. It would be great to see you do a quality video of the trails out there so more people can see what it has to offer. It's definitely one of So Cal's best kept secrets.
My wife and I have just started off-roading in our JLU. We really appreciate your last two videos and advice for beginners. We are in our 60’s and definitely learning the ropes!
Because of you, I decided to buy my first jeep! I got it about 6 weeks ago. A ‘23 wrangler rubicon. Its been fun to try everything out on some dirt roads at a ranch, but I have been itching to find some “real” trails to take it out on, but living in dfw, they are further away. So having to plan ahead for the future!
Great vid for new 4wheelers. Looks like you enjoyed your visit downunder ? But you still have plenty of more greats places to see in our great land down under.
You are literally the Mr. Rogers of off-roading.
Oh snap!!!! So airing down his tires is like Mr Rodgers putting his slippers on lol
It’s a beautiful day in this 4x4 it’s a beautiful day in this 4x4.. would you spot me..
OMG! You are spot on.
Figuratively
Agrees
Your advice on not allowing yourself to be bullied into doing an obstacle that you are not ready for is gold. Thanks.
exactly.
That is so true!
It is a win win. You wont wreck out and you will end up drinking more beer because you wont be asking someone to hold it for you.
Thank you…agree 100%…if you find trash (doesn’t matter who left it) pack it out!!! We like having the trails open.
yes I do agree, if not picked up we all lose the privilege of us.
If you have to follow some idiotic advice, put safety gloves on at least
Lots of great tips for new drivers. I love helping new drivers teaching them how to get into 4 low. So many people have no idea. They have a loaded rubicon and have zero idea what all the buttons do! Teach them! We all have been there.
I have been trying to figure out the buttons, definitely interesting to do all of it lol
These last couple videos have been really great. GPS and everything. They remind me of the earlier TR years. Good stuff 👍🏻
Glad you like them, more to come!
After 34 years in the fire service here in San Diego County, I really enjoyed your trip through our beautiful back country when it wasn't on fire. Great photography and great content.

Thank you! I've always said attitude is what makes the adventure!
You are literally the Mr. Rogers of off-roading.
That JK is looking just amazing. I’m so glad I’ve kept mine when I see yours.
Thank you!

I miss these types of videos! Reminds me of when you first started your channel.
I live about 30 minutes from corral caynon. Espinosa is definitely an easy trail that can be done in a stock jeep. I like to do it in reverse and drive up the "waterfall."
You should check out sidewinder trail out there. Nothing crazy. I consider it intermediate. But definitely has some interesting spots on it.
I plan on doing Sidewinder one of these days!
Thank you Brad !!!!
My pleasure!
The JK!! It’s like seeing an old friend!!
For Poison oak leaves of three leave them be.
So many memories in the JK and still more to be made!

A great place to go wheeling that I’ve enjoyed a few times! Thanks for sharing Brad!
Great video as I always like when you bring out the JK! Thanks for taking us along on the trails. Will be looking at doing some of those this coming winter!! Cheers
That Jeep is just a beast, love it.
Thank you! Wallace is definitely a beast!
Hi Brad, it looks like you’re having so much fun. Very informative. Thank you for sharing! 🚗
Glad it was helpful, thank you!
Great tips! I always keep an extra garbage bag and some latex gloves in my Gladiator. Just for the trash pickup. 👍🏻

Love seeing Wallace out here - love that jeep so much! Simultaneously a tank and a beautiful build
LOL! It's a great Jeep and I'm pretty happy with him!
Hey Brad, you were my CMC at Parris Island back in 2011. Great to see you living the good life! Cheers
Sometimes, I imagine you could see John Wayne coming around the corner on his horse with dog in the lead.
Ahhh so nice to see an old style video with my top 2 favorite JK. Every time I watch your videos with that Jeep, I am inspired to get mine where I want it.

The list continues of trails to explore. Great tips for the beginners and refreshers for those of us that just don't get out as much as we'd like.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the information and getting out once in a while is better than not getting out at all.

Thank you! Keeping it family friendly is one our priorities.
Great video Brad! Lots of tips in here that are super important!
And one of my fav trails in SD.
Great video Great advice.
Pay attention flatlanders...
Thanks Brad
12:15 I could have swore you upgraded the stereo / head unit in that Jeep... That looks stock to me.
Looking forward to your vlogs even if not from your country. Like you tips on off road, camping thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Even in low range, don't desend steep grades in drive with an automatic transmission. Don't lock up your brakes, you may slide out of control on loose gravel.

ahhh, nice to see the Jk out.😃😃😃. Such a sweet build
Thank you! Love driving this Jeep!
Excellent advice, at the end of the day it's your vehicle, barring substantial sponsorship or deep pockets, you'll have to fix your vehicle no one else.

Great tips for newbies and reminders for experienced folks. Thanks-
Love seeing the JK videos. I know you got that 392 but it's great seeing a vehicle you built yourself.
Oh yeah! Love my JK!
Nice to see the JK still getting after it. It's a clean build but capable. That's nice that the fire lookout was so welcoming and happy to show off the ranger. Great tips and looks like a nice trail to try after getting some experience.
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the JK and it's great to get it on the trail.
Loving the “Temp, Elevation, GPS” intro. 👌
Thanks! 👍
Thank You
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Ah, the silver JK out on them trails...love that Jeep!! Nice area Brad. 🇦🇺👍
l really enjoy your videos and your coffee shop tech videos..
keep up the great work
Thank you very much!
Another high quality presentation! Thank you MC.
Thank you for the video 😎👍
Brad that was Awesome.. really enjoyed the trip.
Thank you!
You and overlandx have sooo awesome epik beautiful videos
Glad you like them!
Glad to see the og JK Brad. Keep em coming buddy!
Thanks! Will do.
That road/ trail looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing! I love the look of that jk still.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm pretty happy with the JK build.
My wife and I have just started off-roading in our JLU. We really appreciate your last two videos and advice for beginners. We are in our 60’s and definitely learning the ropes!
Glad the videos have been helpful, safe travels to the both of you!
God bless you. I would like to get out there and perhaps meet you and those who would be with you
Sweet video and great vibes!
Fantastic video! Really nice job!
Always good to see your vids

Chips and grapes? Just admit it! You forgot the propane again 😂. Well I thought it was funny. Nice seeing the silver jeep again 👍👏
LOL! I'm never going to live that one down!
Wow. That Lookout Tower is identical to the one I volunteer at in Kings Canyon National Park.
Thank you for your inspiring videos. Keep them coming
Glad you like them!
Looks like you swapped back to the stock radio head unit. Can’t say I blame you, simple radios are king!
Good to see the JK getting some love.
Still my favorite Jeep in your collection!!!
I'm a little partial to the JK!
Go back to do Sidewinder and go to the Bobcat camping area, very beautiful place to camp.
One of these day!
Looks like you are back in the 2015 JKU, thanks for inspiring me to buy mine ❤
It was good to be back behind the wheel!

Brad, Poison Oak and Poison Ivy: Leaves of 3 Let them be. Both feature 3 leaves!
Your JK is my favorite Jeep
Because of you, I decided to buy my first jeep! I got it about 6 weeks ago. A ‘23 wrangler rubicon. Its been fun to try everything out on some dirt roads at a ranch, but I have been itching to find some “real” trails to take it out on, but living in dfw, they are further away. So having to plan ahead for the future!
Congrats on the new Jeep!
As always great content! 🤙🏼
Great vid for new 4wheelers. Looks like you enjoyed your visit downunder ? But you still have plenty of more greats places to see in our great land down under.
Oh ya, so many incredible trails and places to explore here in the U.S.!
