Funny how comfortable Eric is when the camera is stationary, like he's talking to himself. As soon as Mrs. O takes the camera he gets all camera shy...
Are you sure this dude knows what he's doing 😂
Aren't you more careful when the Boss comes around? :D
He also like in his head "ooh pretty lady...."
I'm the same way when my wife comes around and there aren't any cameras involved! Married 36 years and she can still stop me in my tracks and make me completely forget what I was doing!
Master of hacking right here
One of my favorite Eric quotes:”People think I hate Chevy’s. I actually love them. They’re putting my kids through college.”

1:50 By poking holes in the plastic fender liner you are weakening the one component that keeps the rear end together! Be careful on the test drive!
Ha Ha Good one
LoL 😂😆😂😂
HAHAHAHA!
correct. at this point that plastic is considered structural
A Big Thumbs Up on that comment I know if that was in Rhode Island and that Trailcrapper was going in for inspection it would have been towed to the nearest junkyard there is no way that rust bucket would been repaired no one in my area would have not done any work to that POS
A couple of vids back there were a lot of comments about used parts. This one hits me at the same spot. Especially in today's times, there are a lot of people just barely treading water. Yes, the truck needed much more than this. But until the frame gets a lot worse, this will get them to their job and that is critical when buying another vehicle is not possible. No, I'm not in favor of death traps on the same roads as me. But sometimes you just have to fix the things that would have you walking.
I live in a fairly affluent area of New Jersey just outside of NYC. Lots of 'high-end' cars around here...Benz, BMW, Audi, Maserati, Tesla etc. Recently I've noticed a lot more beaters on the road. Cars with body damage, rust holes. and cars that are making sad sounds as they drive down the road. I can only imagine what's happening in fly-over Murica.
@@MrSloika I'm in a lower income area of the city, and I see the same cars getting more and more damaged and beat up every day. There's high end cars here too. I ride my bike instead of driving as much as I can.
We buildin back bettah.😟
Even when times were better you would still have people driving these death traps around. Some people just don’t care
Wondering, As Eric wanders around Wilberts, does he suddenly recognize some of his past "patients", as he quietly notes to himself, " knew you would end up here or the crusher" 🇺🇸🗽👌
But Wilbert's had to ask Eric to stop giving Last Rites in the junkyard; it was depressing other customers.
@markh, Actually that is incorrect. Eric administered last rites @ the SMA Shop, prior to customer retrieving their vehicle. No secular or religious practices are performed on the Wilbert premises. Just FYI, 🙏👌

Mrs. O is so cool!! I love watching Eric get all out of sorts when she holds the camera. Great video! This is the kind of video that reinforces why I watch your channel specifically. You are just likable.
Mrs O is a hoot! She is the best! 👍
Mrs. O needs to be in the thumbnail since she is the star of the show.
Great nails/color!
Just like at the Discount Tire, Mrs. O is there to verify the torquing. but with nicer nails.
Your hack to remove a bit of plastic is brilliant. On the downside, that plastic looks like it was a major structural component after the A arms failed!
LOL - busted a gut on that one!😀
LoL...Some plastics are pretty tough now days😂
Yes but, think of the damage that will be caused by that new water infiltration point! ;-)
Yea nothing a little Black Duct tape won't fix!
As a 78 year old, your complaints about your old age crack me up! The fun hasn’t started yet.
Agree I'm turning 73
As my friend used to say: "old age isn't for sissies!"
I'll take a hole in my fender liner any day to avoid an extra hour of labor. Like Eric said. There won't be a next time.
What a team! Both of you give us hope that there are still good people everywhere
Wow, the camera handling was so much better in this video ! Once Mrs O took over the quality of the camera work shot through the roof. She is so good at it.
The interactions between you and Mrs O are priceless, great relationship.
Sir thank you for showing me your videos I have anxiety issues and have to take medicine
Your patience’s has shown me not to take problems so serious
I no mechanic like you but you have saved me from depression
Glad to hear this Richard! You're on the right track 👍 Greets from far away Switzerland!
Be strong and brave. 👍
Keep on keeping on, Richard!
Last one of these I did I had to replace both rear arms and weld plate in behind both sides along with 9 other patches I live in western Pennsylvania
Magnesium helps calm anxiety. Try soaking your feet in Epsom salt (Magnesium sulfate) and warm water up to 30 minutes, once or twice a week. And keep watching Eric at SMA!!! 😊 GOD bless you Richard.
when I was younger and poorer, I owned a couple cars in PA, that I KNOW our local mechanic (a really good guy, who did good work cheap) definitely let me pass a few more inspections than I probably had the car to get passed... This video resonates. Great video as always.
Thank you for all the videos, honesty, funny riffs. you’re an absolute hardworking animal. Keep up the hard work Mr. O.
Perfect yard plow. When the frame buckles and the brake lines snap, we call the "You Pull It" people to come and get it.
Lol I had the brake lines rot on my last Chevy in PA at 45k. Fule lines at 51k. Oil lines at 60k...65k rear dif cover, frame broke at 73k when it was in for state inspection. Was a 2012.. brine just eats everything. My snow blower is from 79 no salt on my gravel driveway.
Mrs O's camera work was great. The fact it was freaking you out was a nice bonus
Living in Phoenix AZ vehicles don't rust here there's no rain or snow, I'm shocked to see vehicles so rusted they fall apart that's crazy. Excellent job Eric
Send your non-rusty cars north. We can really use them in this economy.
lots of people from out of state come to auto auctions here for that purpose
Love the banter with Mrs. O! If the car is liftable on its frame, at least there is some hope that the repair can be done.
Good video!! I had an Explorer that was rusted up in the frame like this Chevy. I had to repair it on the cheap. Leaf springs shackles all gone with rust. I always wondered why they did not make the parts to handle rust better, then as I got older I learned why, they do not want the vehicles to last beyond a few years so you have to get a new vehicle. What a shame for customers, hope yours last a while. My grandfather sprayed all his used motor oil all over the underbelly of his cars, they lasted for decades and rust was never an issue.
These two has to be the sweetest couple on YT , Mr O is a great professional and Mrs O is such a sweet lady... Much happiness and success to both of you
I Dunno. Rainman Ray and Wife Unit are pretty good together too.
Living here in Indiana I can definitely understand what your customer is going through. I've got an 2005 trailblazer and I had to replace my lower control armsand my stabilizer arms. HAD FUN DOING IT
Mrs. O makes a great camera person. She keeps Mr. Eric honest! And has fun embarrassing him. Great video of the almost rotted out Chevy. Go Mrs. O.!
¿Casi?
Great episode, Eric. And Mrs. O is a total hoot!! She's an absolute doll, one in a million....keep her happy, at all costs !!!!!
THIS IS AWESOME . Eric is a little overwhelmed with the camera following him. lol
I love you two what a great family business Rob from Australia
Living in the rust belt mechanics, like Mr. O, should have their Tetanus shot updated annually. Wow!
Yea no kidding!!
My thoughts exactly!
I was a tech in the rust belt and my doctor made sure that my tetanus shot was always updated.
It's only the Rust Belt because the Mindless morons that are scared of driving demand the roads be clear of snow.... outwest however we just plow the snow and put some sand on the road and our vehicles are rust free
Mrs. o probably doesn't let him clock in without it
I do explicitly endorse the camera work of Mrs. O. Splendid job!!
Oh an these nails do look absolutely marvelous indeed! You are one lucky guy Mr. O. 😇
Like the way Mrs O moves the camera around nice and slow and steady, unlike some RUclipsrs where the camera fly's around at 100mph, makes my head spin, well done both of you, and another old Chevy that will keep going for a little longer.
I always pick up little tidbits from your videos that I can implement at work, like leaving the vehicle slightly on the lift so it doesn't rock when torquing the wheels.
Glad to help
Ms. O certainly brings some valid points forward - she should be featured more often - maybe a short segment of her own. Food for thought!
Ja, if Wife Unit can do it, Mrs. O can do it better! 😁
Been there, Done that
First SHOUT OUT to your Snap-On guy, for not upgrading your prybars for ya...
Next your a smart man realizing B-E-A-U-T-Y sells so putting Miss "O" on as many video's as possible priceless.
Drilling those cut outs, thats an upgradeand weight reduction so you should be charging a bit extra...
Lastly showing the concrete makes me wonder how many people it has helped over years...
Keep up the good work
When Mrs O was holding the camera and that car drove by an honked, I thought for sure she was going to yell "Hey it's that guy !!" 🤣🤣
I can't believe you did that to those plastic fender liners, now more air is going to get into the wheel arch and it will make the rear brakes really cold and they don't like it.
Gotta love working on old Chevy vehicles. They leave 50 lbs of rust on your shop floor when you're done!
I lightened up my truck by about 150 pounds over the last several years.
100 lbs after Fords, 200 lbs after Toyota, and a whopping 300lbs after Mopar! Remember they were dust, and to dust they shall return.
Great idea on the access cut-outs. Great video, especially after Mrs. O took over the camera work and supervision!
The best part is always when the two of you work together. 🎉
Just love watching you and Mrs O talking in the shop!!!!! my wife comes to my computer every time she hears Mrs O.!!!!
I love seeing stuff like this. Nova scotias rot problems are pretty comparable so we see alot of "just a couple more years" repairs lmao
And that's why I usually buy the cheap parts too. Good enough for a few more years.
People have got to be insane to live in NS and not undercoat their car yearly. If the winters weren’t so mild, I’d love to see us switch to sand like they do out west. It’s common to still see cars from the 80s driving around
She is rusty, my 07 has zero rust, the frame is still painted. I did have a failure last week, as I parked in my drive the shifter slid in park but it was not in park. The shifter cable came off the trans shift arm. I used a a new dorman bushing and snap. Its working for now, not sure how good it is. Wife did a great job.
I wonder if G.M has ever thought of making a galvanized frame an option ?
That bees wax coating they use lasts about 1 year .
No , they're in the business of selling new cars
Nobody has a vehicle that will last in a salt belt state without an aftermarket coating.
@@imrf Facts
@@imrf I have a salt-belt nineteen year old Volkswagen with no rust. VAG cars seem to be the few that are immune to rust. (The rest of the car is kind of a pos, though. :-) But, it's rust free.)
@@imrf my 24 year old Durango barley has any rust on the frame. It’s never left Iowa. My VW barely has any rust on it too
I'm picturing a perfect harmonic distortion by the 2 new cutouts in the fender liners, presenting as either a low-pitched hum like blowing on a soda bottle, or a nice loud whistle which may scare the deer away too, but after you've run them over since the noise is in the rear.
You are both the stars of the show. 😊
You two have such great chemistry it adds charm to the learning experience. Have a great weekend!
As always Eric- another straight forward and to the point repair! And BEAUTIFUL nails Mrs. O!!! Have a great weekend you two!
One of the joys of Southern Living is Driving a Rust Free car over Forty Years and it is still like new top to Bottom !
Love seeing you use a torque wrench on the lugs. I ALWAYS torque my lugs after a trip to the shop right in the parking lot. They're never torqued correctly. The last thing I want is a wheel falling off.
It’s usually a case where they are over tightened- good luck changing a flat on the road
Overtightened lug nuts on wheels will result in warped rotors as well, making braking unpleasant.
My daily is a 96 Cummins Ram. It's got the cracked dash, the fake leather, and you guessed it, wiring problems here there and everywhere. But she's a rust free Bute! 28-30 mpg. Luckily the trip odometer still works so I can tell how far between fill ups. It's got the classic no workie fuel gage.
Last year we probably got somewhere around 50+ feet of snow and somewhere around 5 BILLION potholes. Two windshield replacements from the cinders... ie .22 caliber laser guided rocks that always cause more than 3/4" of damage 💔.
Luckily no salt for the most part here in the 4 corners area.
I love my old P-Pump Cummins. Too bad it has such a shit show of a body on it...
Love the channel Eric and Mrs. O. Keep up the good work 👍
We all know that Mrs O is the star of the show, Eric sad to say, but you are a member of the supporting cast. Great camera work Mrs O.
The rust belt almost claimed another victim, but Eric was to the rescue! That old Trailblazer will live a few more years!
Some people in the comment section haven't had to buy a car lately. The shop I use is crazy busy because folks need to keep what they have going as long as they can.
yeah, and some parts take forever to get these days. i bit the bullet and bought new last year. wasnt a good deal, but i wont have to throw parts at it for another few recessions so as long as i pay it off i should have no problems
They never know until it's too late anyway. I got another car earlier this year. It wasn't a "good deal" it was what I could afford. Sometimes you just gotta take it like a man !! And hope better times come soon.
Her nails look great! When my wife has her done, she gets lot of nice compliments. And yes, candy apple red. Way to go!
Well, that missing plastic will cost points at the next car show! 😂😂Great episode.
We need more Candid Camera Eric - I imagine this is more true-to-life than his polished RUclips persona suggests.
Mrs. O is the best! Sometimes you both bring comedy relief to the video.
I don't think I'd wanna drive that vehicle.
Good one Mr. O!
Definitely one of my favorite South Main Auto videos. Seeing the QA inspect the hub cap installation was priceless. Keep up the good work.
I love the dynamic between you and Mrs. O.
Dude, you just always have a little sparkle in ya smile when the "boss" is handling the camera. Can't believe I like your vids even more when you team up.
you and Mrs O rock . I never miss a repair video .
I love this philosophical side of Mr. O. Feeling the weight of your age and the sadness of the summer slipping away is worth considering IMO. Oh yeah, great video as always, too! Wonderful change of pace.
I feel so much better about doing the same exact thing to those inner fender wells!
I cannot talk like you yet I sure enjoy when your doing it LOL! You two are so good together😃
Happy Birthday Mr. O. Once again I was treated to SMA with my coffee. "Mother lover! Mother of pearl! Son of a monkey!" This one may be your best ever and that's saying a lot. Thanks for manning the camera Mrs. O. Love it.
A day in the life of Mrs. O. Her own cooking show with secret family recipes..
@@MaxDoubt2 Sweet! I'd watch it.
It's always a treat when the lovely Mrs. O makes an appearance. You two have such an endearing relationship.
I think providing tool and bolt access through the fender liner was genius!
You are everything this Country was founded on, integrity, ingenuity, quality, and honesty…(in spite of being a yankee LOL)….where did this country go wrong?
11:00 Guys been making videos for almost 10 years and he's still camera shy 😂 I know, I know, it's probably different when you have someone filming you, but still kinda funny 😁
Good video of an old rusty car, those mods for bolt removal are something the engineers should have included in the first place . Now we know what Eric uses for a floor jack. He better watch out this is like a state job with 2 supervisors behind one worker.
As always Mr O . wonderful content, yes I count my blessings having never endured the rust belt goulag. Keep up the good work.
Hey Mr O nice trigger control and good to see Mrs O on the camera having a red hot go,looking forward to the next episode ❤
Excellent video and narration. I love to see how innovative you are with access to the bolts. I wonder how long you think this vehicle will last after this fix. I wish all the mechanics around the state view a pro like you. You can set a good example.
I just hope that death trap gets condemned at its next inspection before someone is seriously hurt.
Eric O: "Point the camera at me."
Two minutes later: "Why are you pointing the camera at me?"
I'm fine with the added fender liner holes, it's part of the character of this vintage vehicle
GM should have added the access holes at the factory!
That thing wont live long enough to be vintage
With those new Control Arms, that truck is like brand new !
Never gets old watching your vids. Thanks for all your hard work and bringing us along.
It's 33F and we've already had a good amount of snow here in Interior Alaska. I drive a 1991 Explorer and it barely has a surface layer of rust on it. Amazing to see new cars rust out so quickly.
Eric and Mrs. O seem very happy. Good for them 🎉
Even when they argue, It's cute and controlled. Like arm wrestling, instead of a Shouting Match. What a man wouldn't give to have a better half that well mannered and understanding.
Living in the Southwest I can’t even have nightmares how miserable it must be working on these rust buckets.
Eric, you saved the customer one hour of labor by using a hole saw on the fender liner. It's just too bad that the "Cheby" has about 12 mins of life left in it! 😜
Yeah 13 minutes ago 😂
I would recommend to the owner that he not fill the fuel tank with gas. Might be a waste.
Ever watch "Just Rolled In"? That Trailblazer is mint.
I have an '08 trailblazer and did this exact repair (hole saw and all) this spring. Luckily, I didn't have all of YT watching me. It might have come to blows.😅
Love the banter between you two. And yep old rust bucket there. It still got the SMA standard repair of doing it right. Just a little extra bit was cut off.😅
Oh my…..RUST. That thing must be leaving a breadcrumb trail behind every time it hits the road. Great camera work! Keep up the excellent production.😮😊
Thank"s Eric! The Mrs perspective on auto repair is priceless! Do more like this!!
Being in the south, I can’t imagine having vehicles in the rust belt. My kids 2005 Tacoma is the oldest vehicle in the fleet and the frame is perfect.
You guys were made for each other. Great channel you have for mechanics and common sense too
Mrs O with a great quote. Plenty of nice days left they’ll just be colder.
That Chevy rust isn't too bad. I didn't see any holes in the frame or broken welds. It's actually pretty good for a 16 year old car.
Better than that Buick LeSabre I drove to the junkyard in March.
Aside from the upper arms, this is surface rust. Non-structural.
I can't believe the fella didn't notice when the first one broke, only once they were both gone. I used to have one of these SUVs. When I had one of these arms break on mine, it scared the crap out of me cuz of how it would pull to once side when i'd give it gas lol. Another great video, Eric!
I guess some people don't get scared that easy.
Mrs O is definitely the star of the show. We tune in to Mr O with the hopes of seeing her.
Her fingernails are a work of art! 💯
I take my hat off to you!!!!
I’m a Mechanic in Australia and I don’t have any of the rust issues you have to battle with.

As long as the customer pays the bill. Why should it really be that much of a big deal ?? I've done the same thing lots of times but I understand the mechanic is providing me the service I asked him for, WHEN I NEEDED IT. sometimes you just don't have money to buy another car !! And you still got to go to work, the doctor's office, drop off the kids to school, get groceries AND so on.........
You just gotta love the piles of rust you dig out of the frame. Mr's O deserves a little extra in her pay envelope for her superb camera work! You made me chuckle with your nervousness at being filmed, lol
What is even more amazing.... They've been married all this time and she still has the ability to make Eric O. act like an awkward teen.
