Pxg is an interesting line. The naming convention is from the marine corps numbers. They also provide an awesome special price for veterans and service members in the usa. I've been playing some 0211 dcs for 3 months now and I'm still happy to get a full set for an affordable price for me. I do agree the prices can be altered to be lower but the customer service and attention their employees pay is amazing.

From a Marketing/ Branding standpoint…the PXG bit, was a brilliant strategy because… if they just popped on the scene years ago as a every man’s club, they would have largely gone unnoticed.
The fact though is: they exploded on the market; got the attention of EVERY club maker-who as you guys so rightly pointed out-changed their pricing strategy…
Then, and here’s the stroke of brilliance., when everyone is chasing them upwards in price, and when the market is over saturated with high priced clubs what do they do??
Make clubs at entry level pricing…
I’d LOVE, LOVE to see their profit margins now… probably extremely favorable to be a shareholder right now.
I may have to consider a PXG driver… especially knowing now their engineers came largely from PING…I’m thinking it’s time to pass on my R11/ 8* to my son, and have a look at the newest PXG…
Smart guys, maybe theirs something to their madness..

Thank you Alex for sharing. Great story and f#ck cancer. I've just gotten into golf after my wife died from cancer late 2020, and I since found myself in a very dark place. Golf saved my life, it has given me a new purpose for daily life. I started playing in August this year, I have just been given my handicap of 29.6 and my goal is to get to scratch.....
So glad to hear you are now in remission, and I send so much love and prayers your way for the future 🙏 good luck with your golf pal.

I got into golf when my wife was diagnosed with cancer in early 2020. I was banned from mountain biking due to needing to be fit, too many injuries have occurred when on my bike, and golf offered time in the open air, a focus away from treatment and impact to family, it also was something I could with others or my own to meet what indeed. Sometimes I need time on my own.

As a 77 year old senior golfer I purchased a 0811 XF last spring. It was $180 nd the best money I have ever spent on a golf club. The consistency of this club off the t on off center hits has done wonders for my game. Yes the off center might cost me yardage but the ball remains in play. So cheap or expensive it works. Hey Rick, I moved from Nike irons to PXG 0211 irons (2021) at the time I was charged £130 a club this was what I could afford at the time, 1 month after my fitting the price dropped to a £109 a club I was gutted, I rang them and to their credit they offered me credit for the difference, happy customer. I have to say I love these irons they are well made and have helped me bring my handicap down.

The thing I love about PXG is they seem to cater to the Veterans of the Military, first responders. I currently own a driver and 3 wood and bought them for a fraction of what it would be to turn up to a golf store. The reason they are able to sell much cheaper is the business model, where you buy straight from the business and not from a third party that has to make their profit as well.

      1) Literally all the major manufacturers have some sort of program offering discounts for vets or first responders - the difference being as the PXGs discount is not across their entire line, but instead their already discounted outdated models,
      2) PXGs are being sold through third-party fitting retailers.

One of my retirement goals was to take up golf which I did last November. I started with nothing, no clothing, clubs etc. My starter set of clubs was the MacGregor DCT3000 not bad however I wanted a set of clubs reasonably priced which would see me through the next 10 years. My instructor recommended the PXG 0211 series. Over a 6 months I bought a complete set for approximately £1500. Still expensive for someone with a fix income, however I am extremely proud of clubs and I know I’m getting at least 10 to 20 yards more distance, when I hit the ball straight. Also PXG delivered my irons and the putter within 2 weeks. Bill

Hello guys started 22 years ago with a third handed 😁 Cobra set incl driving iron. Then got myself a stock Callaway set and loved them, later on moved to fitted clubs. Got fitted with KZG’s with KBS-shafts that matched my swing speed. What a difference, it brought me into the high single hcp range. Last year I tested Miura and PXG irons with the right shafts for me and PXG got me 15-20 meters extra per club. Besides that I served in the air force 311 sqn 💣Armament the choice was a no brainer. Yes you are right they ain’t cheap if proper fitted but to me it’s worth the money this G4 0311 5-LW set brought me to mid single hcp within 7 months. Last week tested and ordered the Gen5 3 and 5 woods at my club fitter. Fingers crossed they give me a better long game.😎 And No I’m not that guy with a rolex and other shiny stuff as you discribed but I will accept a price when I thinks it’s worth. Love PXG.

PXG does two things well - heavy discounts on their previous year model and catering to veterans. I snagged a gen 4 driver and woods for $229 and $159 this summer (they were twice as much when they came out the previous year). I don’t see other brands doing that. The clubs are good and I think they are trying to take advantage of all the new golfers who have started since the pandemic to try and build some brand loyalty with their 0211 line.

I got fitted a few weeks ago for PXG. I ended up with the 2022 0211 XCOR2 irons. I hit them way better that the gen4 and Gen 5 clubs. I tried a lot of irons before trying the pxg's and the 0211's reminded me of the Mizuno p225 and hot metal pro. I've played a few rounds and my dispersion has been much better than with my old Taylormade M6's.
One other thing, We are in a world wide recession. New golf clubs are not a necessity. The inventory they are selling now was made during the supply chain crunch and it has now arrived and could be stacking up in the warehouses.

    Re: PXG
Just wanted to weigh in on this since I recently found myself at their HQ after a wild road trip that involved me losing my clubs (I was gutted, had to cancel my tee time at Torrey Pines). As someone who genuinely enjoys golf but isn't great (I recently broke 90 for the first time) and was put in a position to need to buy new clubs I was really curious about this brand. I'm also an engineer and when I heard the origin story I was hooked (you hit the nail on the head, that's a dream situation for an engineer). I'm always attracted to a well branded product that is stylish. The experience in one of their actual brand stores is pretty incredible and it reminds me of Apple experiences when Steve Jobs/Ron Johnson were running the show. An incredible attention to detail, I felt like the most important person in the room and all of my questions were well answered. I hit the clubs about as well as the Stealth set that I lost so I pulled the trigger. And even after the fact they have checked in with me to see how happy I am etc.
I don't think they're necessarily better than a similar tier from another brand but I will say, the combination of the experience with their people/stores, the aesthetic of the brand and the feel of hitting the clubs so far has me very happy. To note: I went with the Taylormade Stealth driver over the PXG driver, I didn't love their drivers.

You’ll never get a bad word bout PXG from me even though I don’t always get their business plan… they allow people to get good clubs for a great price. I used to work for PXG and hopefully I can help here. Biggest difference is cast or forged on the irons. Simply: 0211 = Cast iron (much cheaper to make) 0311 = forged w/ engineered inserts and weighting can be customized.
On the woods, 0211 isn't adjustable in any way (higher handicapper, beginner) and 0311 is fully adjustable with weights that can be purchased for custom fit, or included in fitting process.
The 0311 irons... I don't see myself playing another iron (they feel and perform) but I have the Titleist TS line in my woods (and still did when I got PXG's for free). Take that for what you will :)

A couple of months ago I was on the PXG site and saw what I thought was a deal to good to pass up. If I bought 5 of the new 211 irons for just $119 each, I could get both the new 211 hybrids and woods for the same low price. So I bought 10 clubs (5-9 irons, PW and Gap, 3 Wood and 3 & 5 hybrids for $1190 total. I happen to live by one of their fitting centers outside Chicago, so not only did I get the clubs at that price but I also was able to get a 90 minute fitting in their simulator where I got the specs fine tuned for me. Shaft length and type, lie and loft were all fine tuned for me at no extra fees. I now have 4 different shaft types for my driver, wood, hybrids and irons. I can't imagine where else I would get that type of service and club quality anywhere near that price. They even were shipped to me in less than a week. I am a true believer now. (And they even seem to help my game too!)

I think PXG makes incredible products. I have a Gen 5 0311 XF driver and just got fitted for 0211 XCor2 irons. Incredible fitting experience. I have been hitting the irons incredibly well in the simulator at my golf club. Can't wait to get on the course when the snow is gone. Currently a 14 handicap and I feel these clubs will help me lower my handicap this season. I am a 1st Responder, so I was able to sign up for the PXG Heroes program. Thank you PXG for offering incredible discounts to Military and 1st Responders. I will be an avid customer for a very long time!

I just bought the 2021 PXG 0211 driver brand new from their site for $109! (US Veteran discount was $10), I hit it this past weekend and love it! $100 driver is 100% worth the gamble and this driver hits tanks! I also thought it was awesome that I got to pick the shaft and loft at that price! Amazing!

I play the Gen 4 PXGs. They have been amazing clubs and have helped my game so much. I agree that the names are confusing but once you are sold on PXG the names become easy to remember. I’m also seeing a lot more people playing PXGs these days. But you’re right they tend to be flashy middle aged men. I’m not flashy but I was in a market for new clubs and did a few fittings. The Gen 4s suited me the most of all brands so I just went for it.

I bought into PXG for a couple of reasons …
Your review of the driver and me looking to buy a new one. For a couple hundred more than most name brand drivers, I got the 211 driver, 3 wood and hybrid. I later on bought the 211dc and plenty happy with them after playing ping irons for years. Being the discount they give Veterans and First Responders also helps.

The PXG 0211 irons that I got last year were about $99 a club, and are serious the best clubs I have ever hit. I went from shooting in the 90s to high 80s and the first round with the PXG’s I shot a 79. First time I broke the 80s. The fitting was also very great. They don’t charge you for the fitting weather you buy the clubs or not. Since then, I’ve picked up a driver and 5 wood. I don’t care about status or brand names, but just the performance aspect of it and the quality customer service is totally worth it.

The PXG model lines are Oh-3-Eleven. The USMC MOS number for General Infantry.
I like their pricing where you price per club is reduced the more you buy. It probably has something to do with economy of scale and stuff that I have no idea about.
If I had the money, I'd have a full PXG kit. I don't know about getting the full kit in bits here and there, but I'll have some PXG clubs at some point if they work for me.

Rick, I’m a firefighter in California, I’m fortunate enough to be able to access the PXG Heroes program which offers huge discounts to first responders.
Im a 12 handicap, I’m currently playing with the Gen5 players irons and 0311 driver.
Before these I had callaway X18 which were over 10 years old
I’m very happy with the feel and distance I get out of these irons and woods. They look great, sound great and feel great.
If it weren’t for the heroes program through PXG, I’d probably be playing a more affordable set of clubs.
    Over all 9.5/10
Big fan of you and good good!

Extremely honest review.... I was very skeptical about PXG but absolutely love the looks and the direct to consumer business plan. I decided to do a full bag fitting with the intention of buying just irons. The fitter not one time tried to upsell me on anything. PXG irons were hands down the best feeling irons I have ever hit and this coming from someone that has played mizuno blades since 2008. I prefered the look of the Gen4 0311T irons to the Gen5 and the fitter did not try to sway me whatsoever. I tested my sim2 against the gen4 and gen5 drivers and the numbers were practically identical with both pxg drivers having slightly lower spin and a yard or 2 more carry. The fitter showed me the numbers and said "if you just want a pxg driver we can hook you up but your numbers personally do not warrant the change unless it is just something you truly want." We saw the same with my sim ti 3 wood and my sim udi and again he recommended I stay with my current setup. We tested the sugar daddy and the forged wedges against my cleveland zipcore wedges and because i had most of my distances dialed in and my wedges were not very old he again said he would just stick with my current clubs since I was able to hit yardages on command instead of changing and trying to relearn distances. He did NOT try push their ridiculously expensive wedges on me. When we tried putters I fell in love. The feel is amazing and they are absolutely stunning to look at. At the end of the fitting he went to order my irons and even recommended that I not purchase the upcharge iron shafts, but order any stock shaft and have my dg x7 shafts swapped from my old set. I cannot emphasize enough that they were definitely not after my money. Everyone I spoke to were very knowledgeable on PXG equipment as well as other brands. No one ever tried to sway me to purchase more than I intended. they even recommended a ball that would fit my game that I was not currently using. To top it all off the price of my irons dropped a decent amount a week after I received my irons and they sent me a credit for the difference which was enough to purchase the gen5 driver and a driving iron. Overall this was the best experience I have ever had with a fitting and i have been playing competitively since 2004. Everything in my bag is now pxg with the exception of wedges and that may change when i wear out my current set. I highly recommend pxg to anyone

I think the thought process is that they need more brand recognition. If they have an introductory line that performs well, then they can sell with razor thin margins - people will appreciate the brand and as they get better at golf they'll purchase a more expensive club.
The clubs are perfect for a new golfer. Cheap in price and massive lofts - they sound really crisp when you hit them. Similar in ease to TaylorMade M4's and it cost me $100 less for the set.

Hi Rick, I am a man who is not rich, I am a construction worker and I bought a set of PXG's not because I wanted to be flashy but because I wanted a good set of clubs. I used to play Taylormade Tour Preferred irons, which I liked and I played a Colbra R7 driver. I switched to PXG 0211 irons with Nippon Modus Tour 105 shafts and a Prototype driver with a Riptide CB shaft. I will say this, my PXG clubs are the best clubs that I have ever played and will probably stay with PXG for my next set. I only payed about $1600 for the irons and the driver(with military discount). The Callaway set that I was looking at (Apex) were $1400.00 plus additional costs if I wanted a upgraded shaft. In my opinion, PXG's are in the same price range as other brands.

As a new golfer (started in April) I was attracted to the 0211 Series, i was able to get a set of irons for $79 a stick , a new putter for ~150. And I was just fit for a driver and it came in at around 329 dollars. So over the course of the year I have pieced together what I consider is a very nice bag for around for less than 1k. I don’t know what other brand you could do that with brand new clubs.

Confidence is king and don't think I've ever felt as confident looking down at a ping head. Scoring the best I ever have but don't feel like any part of my game is flying, hopefully the return to a confidence builder can help me push on to the next level.

Rick and Guy once again another great podcast. I have been playing PXG 0211 STs for the last year and a half. Prior to this I was a Mizuno blade player. I play off a +4 handicap and never did PXG ever cross my mind when it came to a new set. In my eyes they were too pricey and more importantly there wasn't history with them to back up these claims. I always new what I was getting with a Mizuno blade or Titleist blade. It was a year and a half ago and my club pro approached me and said these new PXG blades were coming out and they would like to fit me to get my input. I went to the fitting and fell in love the the clubs. I compared them to the Mizuno blades I was wanting and the numbers were the same but the launch and the window I was looking for was better than the Mizuno. Needless to say I was sold but I had no idea what the price was going to be. To my amazement they were equitable to any other major brand. This is not what I was expecting especially from PXG. I think the reason behind their new pricing is that they have a good presence in the market now and are played by many PGA players as well as LPGA players. I think with this presence they are now wanting to capitalize on the next market which is the market we are all familiar with. The people that will spend 500 on a driver and around 1500 on irons. Just my 2 cents. If you haven't hit their 0211 ST's give them a try I think you will like them based on how you loved your Ping Blueprints for the longest time. Cheers

I've gone all PXG in woods with the discounted versions. They're great as far as I can tell. With the price issue, maybe they've just hit on a market idea to undercut all the big boys and from what I see it's working. I doubt they're struggling though. They even build them in UK now and have a 14 day turn around. There's also usually some great deals on their official EBay page

Also, the names are based off the US Marine Corp job numbers. Good podcast. Loved Alex’s email. The thing about PXG owning that luxury brand position in the market is eventually the products do have to be extremely high-quality and maintain that extremely high-quality status or else the brand just starts to die. you can’t just have a high price and assume that makes you a luxury brand. There has to be some substance behind it too

And yes you can see where your money goes, the materials in the clubs, headcovers & bags! They use High end materials, my golf bag stand legs are made of carbon fiber , on the zippers says pxg, lots of little details, leather is thick and plush, the sounds from the drivers has always been amazing unlike any other could go on and on. Talk about expensive Titleist charges 600$ for a full bag fitting-PXG 50$, Got to say if you are about to drop a few grand for a full set of clubs hard for me to give 600$ to see what works for me. Great episode as usual, I look forward to watching this every week. As someone that owned PXG clubs, bought Gen 3's after the Gen 4's and can say they can be affordable as compared to mainstream brands and preform just as well. The fact that PXG also markets discount prices to Veterans (as I am one) and first responders helps in the business model, which I don't recall any mainstream brand doing that, correct me if wrong.
What the email may have missed and the way I see it is PXG 0211 line looks to me marketed to those with limited funds or those looking to get a better set of entry level equipment than most boxed sets say from Costco, Dicks, etc., and get a good set of clubs at a real reasonable price
The acc's and clothing are still marketed to those that have money compared to most others. Taking a basic polo is over $110 US (closeout shirts around $60) is on average twice the price of everyone else. Hats though are about $10 over say Callaway is closer to reasonable. Quality of the materials are no different than anyone else.

Hey guys, as an enlisted military member I certainly don't arrive in a Bentley of course, but PXG makes their products much more attainable through their HEROES program. I have pieced together a full bag over the years and recently ordered the Gen 5 lineup. Prior to those being shipped the 0211 lineup went on sale. A lot of the tech from the top tier line has been incorporated into the game improvement lineup so I felt the need to order those as well. Both sets will arrive this week and PXG offers an unheard of "60 Day No Questions Asked 100% Money Back Guarantee" so I will have the opportunity to return one of the sets. I will keep the Gen 5 woods, hybrid and Sugar Daddy wedges, but I will return one of the sets of irons. PXG does things differently, that is for sure. Top notch customer service, extremely military friendly and excellent products.

I think you hit the nail on the head early on in the discussion, they have now 'paid off' the initial cost of getting into club design & manufacture so can now offer at a more reasonable price, coupled with economies of scale that comes when you make and sell more golf clubs............seems like simple economics.

Recently got my 2nd ever set of irons, upgraded from game improvement chunky Wilson clubs, to now using PXG Gen3 0311xp irons. Best purchase I've ever made. 5-GW was about £760. Loving them, all the help, but in a players looking iron. Forged face, milled back, love them. An attraction for me was the fact that these used to sell for 3k, of course it feels good to think you are getting a bargain.
In all honesty, I wouldn't buy the cheaper ones, I love the traditional pxg look, with the milling and bolts but couldn't justify £300+ per iron. I don't mind being a generation or 2 behind so I can have the PXG irons.
Again I couldn't justify paying £300+ for a single club other than my dr9ver or putter. But the new PXG wedges look incredible.

I bought a set of PXG irons this year and at the fitting the guy explained to me that the high initial prices were due to them wanting to make the best golf clubs regardless of cost. However, included in these costs were the research and development for the clubs, establishing a manufacturing process, putting the admin side in place, renting warehouses for stock etc etc. Once this was all in place they changed the aim of the company to wanting every golfer in the world to have PXG in their bags.
The initial business expenses that were covered by the high prices gave them the infrastructure to match big companies like TM, Ping, Callaway etc but they are now able to offer such low prices because they don't have the marketing and sponsorship expenses of these companies. In reality, how much does a TM driver actually cost to build? The £500 price tag is due to paying Rory millions per year, having adverts on every 5mins etc etc. Plus finding ways to sell the same old products in different colours each year as the new products hardly offer much over last years model. PXG avoid all of this and keep their costs down and hence their prices low.

With respect to PXG...the fact that you guys spend a large portion of you podcast talking about their product and the company itself...is PRICELESS. PXG DOES make great products...much like Ping, the only thing they do not make is their own golf ball. They now have a product line that allows every income class the ability to buy their goods. This is great marketing and product line for the consumer. I buy products not just for their performance but the "value" has that cannot be priced in...such as its history, "the name" ....i,e. I have recently bought 3 clubs from PXG (Driver, 3 wood and 5 wood) after going for a fitting with them at a local fitting centre. I had been looking at the brand PXG for a while but never wanted to purchase a product because of the price was way too much for me. However after the fitting I found them to be great for me as a horrific slicer of the ball, the 0811XF driver, the 0341XF 3 and 5 wood where the best. But the price of each club was was too expensive for me but they had a deal on where I could get all 3 for £600 (£200 per club) which was at the time a saving of about £75 per wood and £100 for the driver. This was 7 months ago and I still love them to this day. However I wouldn’t be looking to get any other PXG products at the moment because of the price still being too high even though they perform well for me.

So my story with PXG. I originally hated the commercials and then one day I got really curious about the product. I did research and noticed they offer a Hero's discount. Being a firefighter I thought "Sweet!" I decide to go try them with a fitting and I will be honest. I was instantly impressed and sold. They felt so nice and just looked amazing. I play 0211 model from Driver-Gap, 0311 56 and 58 wedges. I feel like I will never go back to any other golf brand again. PXG made me feel like I was the most important customer from the fitting process all the way till I opened the box and even past that. The product to me just feels awesome compared to anything I've ever tried. The fitting was so detailed and done in a way as to not to sell me a club but to show me how well I could strike a golf ball with the right combination. I will admit even though I have the less expensive of the models I still have a sense of pride that I have PXG in the bag. In my opinion though, I love the way they feel, sound and perform! I've actually gone from a 15 hdcp when the clubs were first put in the bag to an 8hdcp today. I don't think that is so much the technology but the confidence in the great fitting I was given and the trust that the product was configured to me. Oh and by the way I received my clubs in a week which was amazing! Customer service goes a very long way with me and PXG gives it.

Regarding PXG and someone may have already mentioned it but the PXG Heroes Program. The program has done tons getting veterans and first responders into golf with their high level equipment at a lower price point. I personally know several players who used this program to get into golf and without adding too much to the comment, some lives have definitely been saved. Yes, the commercials are annoying and I’ll be honest, I play the irons. However, I too used the Heroes program and was thankful for the opportunity to purchase quality irons to play the game I love. Cheers!

I’ve worked in the sporting goods business for a long time. What most people don’t know is retailers mark up around 100%. The distributors/company’s mark up around 100%. So a $500 driver gets sold from the dealer they paid $250. The manufacturer’s pice to make whatever profit they want is $125. The actual price to manufacturer, r&d, advertising and general overhead is like $65. PXG is cutting the middle man out and not gouging the customer for their products

I’ve had a PXG 0811 Gen 2 XF since they sold them for 250 dollars here in the US. Great driver, great experience. When I need another one I’ll certainly give them or another DTC company a shot. Lotta value in PXG, Tour Edge, Sub70. In the meantime, I’ll spend the cash on lessons.

You got to release it as its the only channel that is real and if you was playing bad then it's always good to see someone like you play bad

I have a full bag of PXGs. As a veteran (the owner of PXG is a vet) they give some great discounts. Many of my buddies use at least a few PXG clubs because of that. I have no complaints with them at all.

Great review of the PXG Driver. Totally agree that modern drivers are overpriced & feeding off all golfers passion to have the best equipment available. This is also fuelled by the professional game & the clubs used by them. Please keep up your campaign to keep club prices realistic & affordable to all. Well done Rick

To ricks point at the end PXG initially started out in the hyper exclusive space in golf and most major manufacturers gave Bob Parsons a lot of grief for the price point only to see him find some level of success. These same people who said you would never be able to sell golf equipment at that price only turned around and started making hyper expensive equipment of their own. So Bob Parsons who thought he had established his own Exclusive space within the market then turned around and said if you want to get into my market high will get into yours. I got my information from a PXG employee who also has worked at other major brands in R&D. I personally am active duty military in America and the way they take care of us with discounts makes me a loyal fan.

I bought a Ping G Driver when they came out in 2016 and was very happy with it. Then lockdown came and with being unable to go out I then had extra money in the bank and saw the PXG sale price of their 0811 driver. I sent an email and gave them the spec of my Ping G so they built the driver to almost the same spec. WOW the PXG is probably 20 - 30 yards longer and has been in the bag ever since with the Ping relegated to the garage

I got my PXG set for #1 the price for a complete set was less than that of a top brand, #2 the fitting session was amazing, and #3 they worked great with veterans and the discount sold me. I have nothing but great things to say with how my game improved with the driver alone.

PXG was actually brilliant in their marketing campaign. They made their brand expensive and marketed as an elite brand. They were special and cost a premium to play them. They became a status symbol in a sport where a lot of players focus on status symbols. Other manufacturers saw that PXG was selling at the high price and the market chased that price point. When everyone other manufacturer became ridiculously expensive PXG changed tack and reduced their prices to become the affordable custom club builder. When it came to replacing my Mizuno MP32s I really wanted the Taylormade Stealths, but cost and supply chain made that a $4,200 eight month long wait for product. Enter PXG. Custom fitting, full bag, and available in THREE days for $3,000. Performance was better out of the PXG as well, so it was a no brainer. Parsons was a genius to drive prices up, then undercut the market to become a dominant player in the market. Once you buy them you become a member of the tribe and you won't look back.
