- In this video I run down all the errors/mistakes from the english anime dub commercial lead-in feature "trainer's choice". There were some "close calls" i left out since they weren't technically wrong (i.e both pokemon were super-effective but the one chosen as the answer also resisted) and i didnt want to nitpick, even though those were probably somewhat unintentional.

Not to complain since I do really appreciate the views but.....YES I KNOW ARCANINE LEARNS BITE AND CRUNCH (and has much better stats), BUT THATS NOT RELEVNAT. THE QUESTION, AS MOST OF TRAINER'S CHOICE WAS, WAS MEANT TO TEACH TYPE MATCHUPS BASED ON THE POKEMON'S TYPE. Plus lots of pokemon learn moves from other types so i'm not sure why most of the focus is on this one question.
MrBKainX I know what u mean about Arcanine. Yes you can get crunch but we're talking about type related not moves that It can learn after all if that is the case then each one would beat the other depending on the Pokemon. So really it's about which Pokemon will be effective of the best choice

The lore means nothing to the Creators, during this time The Creators didn't think of putting another type such as Fairy.
Arcanine has bite and that's a dark move. Kirlia used to be a Psychic type which is effective against Dark types or dark type moves.
Therefore Arcanine has the advantage over Kirlia

Kirlia was NOT a fairy type then therefore it is not a mistake they did on the trainer's choice. Are you stupid? Why would they intentionally make mistakes on Trainer's Choices? It's not Ash. The creator of the anime planned everything to be right. Not just an unfully experienced Trainer giving garbage out. It makes no sense AT ALL to your statement

With the Plusle and Minun one, I get the feeling that whoever is in charge of this thing thought that Mudkip had the dual typing through it's whole line, like Bulbasaur, so they thought Treecko would resist, but Mudkip would be immune. Still wrong if that's the case.
That would make the Roselia fail even worse because Water/Ground would rip Plusle in half while Roselia's Grass-type STAB would nuke it off the face of the Earth with 4x super-effective damage.

The last question wasnt exactly wrong. Arcanine is a fully evolved pokemon amd it has access to bite since gen 2. Bite being a dark move and arcanine being a mixed attacker.

Maybe originally Arbok was suppose to evolve to Seviper like how Torkoal was supposed to evolve from Magcargo but instead they put it as an stand-alone pokemon.

Now if these little quizes were made by The Pokemon Company or Gamefreak then I could see an argument to be made for what you said. But 4kids which made the segments did nothing other than dub shows. And quite terribly at that where they'd just straight up edit out shit they didn't like from shows.

_”Oh, don't worry, we're still using these ones," the examiner said with a shrug. "I'm just going to write down all the ways an eight year old is smarter than the question setters..."_
For the Arcanine v Kirlia thing, I think it's because the dog can learn Dark type moves, whereas Kirlia cannot learn anything super effective against fire (I think).
The question presented was "who would have the advantage?"
It could also be base stat totals.
11:12 By "strong against it's own type", they probably meant _one_ of the two types, not just that their primary type is or isn't strong against the secondary type. Like, Dragon is strong against Dragon, but Rock isn't strong again Rock and Ground isn't strong against Ground.
They could've phrased it a little better, but this one seemed a little _too_ much like a close call to warrant being considered a mistake.

About the Arbok/Seviper error, the most likely reason for why they made this error is because Jessie obtained Seviper very shortly after she released Arbok so someone who didn’t see either the episodes of Arbok’s release or Seviper’s capture and has little to no knowledge of the games (which, tbh, appears to be the case of the producers of the anime at this time) could easily have made this mistake.
Another thing is that technically, it’s Ash who is the narrator so in-universe, it could be a headcanon that these mistakes are because of ones that Ash himself made. And as for the Arbok/Seviper error, I can easily picture him making this error since he didn’t see either Arbok’s release nor Seviper’s capture, and those two events happened only two episodes apart, so he could have incorrectly assumed that Seviper evolved from Arbok.
At 8:55, Swampert and Makuhita are AUTOMATICALLY super-effective against Spoink. All they have to do is pick it up.
I really super love that you made this video because it just had to be done, but maybe try writing a script next time. The pacing and pauses make the video drag. It's an awesome video and you did a fantastic job, but that's just my advice for the future. Keep up the good work!

I remember when was smaller I knew already the type advantages after playing pokemon Crystal ,Yellow and Leaf Green. So it really shocked me when I saw that my answer were incorrect lol and the Seviper one made my eye twitch from annoyans since that made me understand that these trainer choices were incorrect.

It seems like 4Kids had a serious grudge against poor Flaaffy. Also, 4Kids must have been under the impression that Kirlia is a grass type (because *green=grass, like obviously!)* This is the same company that caused many 90's kids to believe rock types are *immune* to electric attacks. On the topic of basic editing & proofreading, not only was Flaaffy's name misspelled *every time it appears,* they spelled Forretress as "Foretress" at least once and they had the habit of using Nuzleaf's name for other Pokémon. Thankfully, the latter was was only Beautifly & Sealeo because a third “Nuzleaf” mistake would have me questioning the editors & proofreaders. Given all the mistakes 4Kids made regarding species types (such as Nidoqueen being called a water type in the first movie, because *blue=water)* and type matchups (especially in these God-awful Trainer's Choice segments) sometimes I wonder if 4Kids even knew the first thing about Pokémon? This goes to show, if you don't know much about your source material, the least you can do is a little research. A quick search on Bulbapedia says it all (from their 4Kids page,) "Frequent move errors, type matchup errors, and most infamously, poor quality in the Pokémon Trainer's Choice segments have led fans to believe 4Kids had *very little knowledge* or interest in the Pokémon franchise as a whole."
They made intentional bluffs during the dub.

I once saw someone on twitter say that they truly thought Arbok evolved into Seviper, and they leveled up their Arbok to level 74 and didn't know why it wouldn't evolve.

This is a nitpick here, but "STAB type matchups" is redundant. When you say "STAB" (same type attack bonus as I'm sure you know) you're implicating moves. You should simply say "type matchups only, movesets and stats are irrelevant."
Good video, by the way. Perhaps in the future you could draw your annotations a bit cleaner or maybe include a key such that it's easier to read/looks nicer.
Well if i just said type matchups i think it would confuse people into thinking other moves pokemon learn somehow play a factor.
But they do play a factor. If you only go by STAB moves, Wobbuffet is a bad choice against Sneasel because Psychic type moves don't affect Dark types. In practice, Wobbuffet can tank anything that Sneasel throws and Counter it, easily OHKOing Sneasel.
Ditto can murder Fighting types and die to Ghost attacks, Mew can learn any move in the game, Charizard can set up Sunny Day and Solarbeam any Water types, Flareon can't do much of anything with its terrible stats, Nidoqueen has counters for every single type that it's weak to, Magikarp literally only learns Splash, Tackle, Flail and Bounce...
All those examples (bar the first) are Pokemon from Gen 1, and it isn't even an exhaustive list.
Giving Sneasel a special attack is like giving Shedinja an Oran berry.
Arbok evolving into seviper messed me up as a kid XD
I got into the show around this time and managed to find some of Kanto on VHS so I was actually convinced Jessie still had her Arbok and spent a long time trying to figure out when it evolved XD
I like how he didn't even mention that they called Sealeo "Nuzleaf", like they did with Beautifly. Either he didn't notice or he'd had nearly enough by that point.

It would have made more sense if he said "Trainers! Which of these Pokémon did Team Rocket replace with Seviper?"
