  • Here’s something a little different…a song by The ‘Orrible ‘Oo!
For those who haven’t seen my videos since “It’s All Over Now”, I’m a huge fan of The Who, they’re one of my favorite bands, some of their earlier songs can be seen on the channel. Pete Townshend is a musical genius, Roger Daltrey is a powerful frontman, John “The Ox” Entwistle was the Jeff Beck of the bass guitar and Keith Moon was unhinged and I wish I had the balls to do the stuff he did.
My favorite album of theirs, “Who’s Next”, is to be released in an epic, mammoth 10 CD/2 Blu-Ray audio box set on September 15, so I’m doing a series of songs from that album in anticipation.
First up, somewhat appropriately, is “Join Together”. The band version was all based around a demo filled with synthesizers, Jews harps and chromatic, chord and bass harmonicas, all played by Townshend. The band then added their respective parts where they could. The music video has some of these parts mimed by Daltrey, Townshend and The Ox.
Although Townshend used a ‘59 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 on the record, I’m using the guitar he used in the video: a Gibson SG Special. It gets the job done!
The pedal setup is also a little different from previous videos and is going to stay this way for a while. I swapped out the Way Huge pedals for a J Rockett Archer IKON overdrive and a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face mini. I used this setup for the “Goin’ Down” video released at the start of the month, so I decided to keep it!
Guitar is 2021 Gibson SG Special, amp is 2021 Fender ‘68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb, effects are J Rockett Archer IKON overdrive, MXR Carbon Copy and Catalinbread Topanga Spring Reverb (I’d really love to get my hands on one of their earlier WIIO pedals for Who stuff…)
Jacob K playing The Who…hopefully, no guitars will be harmed for these covers!
