It`s the best tutorial! We have a very similar issue, but with the last (spring) position. Our car can start, but sometimes does nothing. It needs for a multiple times playing with the key to start. Is that the same switch problem, or it can be whatever? Can this switch replacement be a solution, please? Thank you

Yes seem like ignition switch problem. But they not cheap to replace. Also ford do not sell that part any more. Only option is to repair them. You will need to ask around who can do it.

Will the ignition switch failing cause issues with power windows not working when cars started and wipers too... It's doing some really odd stuff

Yes. You have to manually backup it off tiny bit to bring it to on from start position then windows and wipers should work after starting. You can buy repair kits but they not the best and easiest to do and other option is replace with new one

Usually 1 permanent power and rest just bridge 1 accessories, 1 ignition on and 1 starter regardless of what colour is. Just be careful bridging start wire make sure car is in neutral or park.
