I honestly preferred the rodeo mechanic in Titanfall 1. It's funny they mention Brodeoing as being designed for CTF...even though you could carry a flag in the titan at launch. I remember matche being over super quick because of this. Interesting they mention pilots in TF1 felt like they had to disembark to fight the pilot - I would always have the cluster bombs equipped in my loadout, get against a wall, duck, and shoot the wall with the cluster bombs. Faster kill than electric smoke.
The MULTI RODEO can be useful on a COOP event/spin off campaign (like the adventures of the THE RESORT w/Davis & Droz other than FRONTIER DEFENSE honestly.
Titanfall 2 does a lot right, unfortunately its Titan Vs Pilot dynamics are less interesting and less .... well ... dynamic than they where in 1. Batteries boil it down to a game of "wait till the pilot jumps off in an open area and kill them" or "deploy smoke" , in the rare case where you get a chance to steal a battery it doesnt feel frantic or fun since the titan was focused on another titan. How can it be? T1 did it perfectly since it was so simple, unexplored possibly but that accidentally made it great , Spitfire had a unique role since it melted a titan core, you could deal chip damage to a titan, you could jump away to safety without feeling you wasted time and of course there is the presence of shields which are a whole different topic but since rodeo bypassed the shields it was a viable and sometimes preferrable way to damage a titan because all they could do is deploy smoke or damage themselves with splash damage which again is good because its a way for the titan to outplay the pilot. T2 evolved some things, but rodeo wasnt "evolved" in a way that built upon old rodeos brilliance and it honestly just turned the PvT game into something nonsensical.
One of the biggest issues I see with this is that they don't trust their players. They assume anybody who interacts with some of these mechanics are brain-dead and incapable of learning. Instead of having the new iteration of Rodeoing in Titanfall 2, they could have improved upon the first, as it was clearly the more interactive, rewarding and fun option. As I see now in the multiplayer, most players will keep the batteries for themselves to feed their own Titans for that small upper hand. It barely heals enough to justify healing other players anyways.
The shields you get from batteries are absolutely worth it, especially in last titan standing or close fights, not least because they turn off your titan's crit spots.
For a third game, I would make it so there were only the shoulders to rodeo and there would be a button prompt to remove the battery from the back. I’d stay on a friendly Titan with a shotgun just for this: 48:56
Some points. First, NONE of these issues 24:45 are fixed in TF2. So good job on that. Second, NONE of these mechanics 26:00 are communicated in TF2 at all. I have many hours in the game and didn't know this until just now. So good job on that too.
The first point is true but I don't think they claimed it did. For your second point, I think you are misunderstanding. the "chiclet" regeneration system did not go into the launch of the game. it is stated briefly a bit later in the talk.

I freakn love Respawn!! Going to watch this tomorrow in the train. :)
Doing that right now my friend. I feel you

Thank you! I really hate people who praise T2 without question, it really wasn't as plain fun as T1.

I do understand why they have some trust issues. There are players like darksidephill.
Considering the usually Call of Duty audience, I would not be surprised why they would think that.

So sad that we won't get one of these for Titafall Legends
I wonder what the rodeo mechanic would look like in (hypothetically) Titanfall 3.
47:37 oh imagine
TheLPRnetwork Three some rodeo ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

"brodeo", I love it.

Not at all interested in that IP but interesting talk anyway. :)
