My dad sat me down when I was about 11 or 12 in the 90's and made me watch this whole set of New Grass Revival and told me how deadly these guys were! I come from a musical family, my dad was a Pedal Steel player and I've played music my whole life as well. I know I knew what I was hearing back then but man!!! sooo freaking good!! I know why he sat me down that day! thanks Dad RIP
I saw these guys a LONG time ago on late-nite TV. I was very impressed with this song in particular, being an avid Motown fan for decades. These guys know what the hell they're doing, and they do it well.
Maybe you don't "get it" because you were born too late and never heard the original version of this song. "Ain't That Peculiar" is a 1965 song recorded by American soul musician Marvin Gaye. I thought it was cool how these guys took a great Motown song and did it "New Grass" style. You're right, Sam rocks, as do all the members of this great band! Too bad they're no longer together. Thanks for watching! BTW, I love your user name! John
John Camfferman there's nothing to get, that's what you dont get! Both versions are great, the original Marvin Gaye version because no one sounds like Marvin Gaye, and the New Grass version because no one can take a song and make it a new grass version except for New Grass! Geez, why does one artists version have to trump another, they're both phenomenal from the perspective they're performed from
I'd love JC to do this great song with with the Doobie Brothers. It would be a great fit with the uber-talented current Doobies lineup which includes Cowan, unfortunately relegated to nothing more than a back-up vocalist.
Bluegrass has the best musicians and singers anywhere.
First bluegrass band I ever saw in 1990! Amazing!!! I got hooked on bluegrass!
Love these guys! This is a cover of a song by a band called Fanny back in 1972...
What a voice - John Cowan is amazing.

This ACL was, indeed, awesome. It's really a shame the band is no more. They sure had it dialed in this night.
Holy Crap that guy can wail!!!
They are top class musicians for sure.
I forgot how good they were. I am lying in bed listening, about to get up and bust a move!!!! lol

Fantastic!!! Saw them in Cork years ago... And then our band covered this... great!
So good it almost hurts.
Man, that John Cowan has one powerful set of lungs!
Wish this whole set was on here somewhere. It was awesome. Tx for posting this.
Love every single thing about this!
I know he is (was) the youngest in the group, but Bela looks like he's about 12 here. These guys are so incredibly good! Love John's voice!
And I have Marvin Gaye's version of this, too. Great to have them both!
Each of these guys are masters at their craft & they were magical and mesmerizing together!!!!
Always loved this version..thanks for posting.
Nothing could be more perfect
Thanks for the videos. New Grass Revival and drag racing are two of my favorite things.
Still hard to believe JC doesn't have his own signature brand of hair spray...
Love, love, love it!!!!
I really like BGR &I love this song but lost it on another channel. Thanks for sending it back my way! Ronnie
Just Awesome....... wish they were still gettin it done....
We land robots on Mars but cannot pause and resume a video with any grace, whatsoever. Unbelievable.
John Cowan Rocks!! Sam Bush the best-- Bella Fleck!! My how I love it
They are. Cause we're still listening.
The banjo player Bela Fleck has won 12 Grammys.
John Cowan’s amazing new memoir, “Hold to a Dream, a Newgrass Odyssey” is now available on Amazon!

I think even Marvin would have to grin hearing this rendition.
I wouldn't know Bela Fleck had won many Grammy awards after NGR.
I love it ! play it again . ~~~~ ~~~~~~~ (MULDEW) gary b . ☆
I love this song. But for one weird reason I cannot find it in S pot tify.
Wish they would've actually recorded this one.
