Alright I just have to say...my dude is wearing a "Dokken" shirt and said "eh...." about Iron Maiden 🤣...no disrespect. However, few things....surprisingly enough, this track is one of their more popular songs. And also, Death was often a supergroup. A lot of death metal bands trade members from time to time. In fact, you guys mentioned Obituary a handful of times. James Murphy played with Death as well. As far as picking Obituary over Death..........I'm not so sure on that statement, sir. But, it's all a matter of opinion, amirite? And if y'dig Obituary so much, have you checked out James Murphy's solo band "Disincarnate?" A lot more like Death's style as opposed to Obituary....and they slay!
This being said, my first introduction into death metal was Morbid Angel's "Gateways to Annihilation." In fact, my first metal concert was Morbid Angel and Suffocation. Suffocation blew them out of the water. I've seen Suffocation 4 times total. Best metal band I've ever seen live. Their energy was ridiculous!

My favourite album by death is symbolic - It’s very consistent, every song is 8-9, one of the highest rated metal albums - when I found death about ten years ago I was learning them after about a day…
Every riff on symbolic is just amazing… it’s groovy it’s technical, melodic and it’s surprising - if you’re into Metal and that I’d recommended two albums to anyone and everyone - Jester Race by in flames and Symbolic by death.
    My favourite death songs are:
    Zero tolerance
    Empty words
    Sacred serenity
    Crystal mountain
    Without judgement
I don’t like leaving any of them off, they’re all very good.
    In flames -Jester race:
    Moonshield
    Jester race
    Lord Hypnos
    Dead eternity
    December flower (solo is great)

By far the greatest irony in metal is the fact that Gene Hoglan became known as the Father of Blast Beats. This is Sean Reinert, but Hoglan is the drummer on the next album and he largely maintained Reinert's style for Death, with godtier cymbal-work and jazzy modulations, and imo built onto it to make one of the best albums for metal drumming ever recorded.
Also, Chuck was 100% against the labeling of metal subgenres and the "poser" accusations within the fandom. He hated being known as The Godfather of Death Metal, and insisted that he just played metal.
Also, Obituary, Deicide, Morbid Angel etc were all VERY heavily influenced by Death, because they were all local to the Orlando-Tampa area, which is why Tampa death metal is so recognizable.

That also what you get when you literally use a world class jazz drummer to play faster than any metal drummer ever had at that point of metal history ☝️
Literally there was not a drummer around that could be out clocked on the meter of his double bass... When this came out.... This guy's foot work could not be out paced.... Sure songs like Dead By Dawn by Deicide might effectively be a close one...
However ☝️ The upper body chops and skills place his drumming in a department of it's own....

Listen to All their Albums in chronological order. Sean reinert, gene hoglan... Steve digiorgio...
Chuck was so far ahead created his own scales, dimebag learned those... that beeing said
And yes, they were the first death metal band and developed into something else
And be sure it doesnt Sound like 90s death metal though it grew out of it

Chuck had a band (Mantas) before Death that predates Possessed's Seven Churches by a couple yrs. Possessed did release a demo in 84, the SAME YEAR Mantas' first demo came out. Both demos were NOT indicative of the faster playing styles of the upcoming LPs, but they generally set the template for death metal. Any way you slice it, Chuck was on the leading edge of the first wave of death metal, if not the FIRST EVER.
And this album is the best iteration of Death IMO, with Masvidal & Reinert from Cynic. It's when Chuck took the left turn towards a more technical style, & never looked back. And this was the one lineup Chuck really tried to keep going forward, but then Cynic broke and half the band left. Sad, really.

I understand that you guys never heard of Death. There are literally hundreds of thousands of bands, no way you can listen to them all. Ive never listen to Vio-lence, Annihilator and Overkill until recently too.

I got my start in Metal with the 80s Hair Metal bands like Bon Jovi, Europe, Dokken, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, shit like that. But then in the Fall of 1987, when I started High School, I discovered Thrash Metal with bands like the Big 4 (or 9 as I call them), Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Overkill, Testament, Flotsam & Jetsam, and Death Angel. I also got into Kreator and Death by 1990. Death's 3rd album "Spritual Healing" from 1990, was the one that was out when I first got into them. It's an awesome album. A bit more polished than the first two albums with somewhat more catchy riffs and hooks. The title song alone is great and worth a Reaction for you guys. What you guys need to understand is that DEATH was essentially the pioneer of modern Death Metal. Chuck's song writing ability was like nothing ever before. The sheer progression in his songs was absolutely amazing for the time, and even today. The amount of time changes and riff change ups was mind blowing. You never knew where the songs were going. And that's what I like and almost demand from my Metal music. When bands write songs that are essentially the same banging riffs and tempo all the way thru, it's boring. You gotta have those progressive change ups in there otherwise you run the risk of sounding too cookie cutter. And I'll be honest, Death or Black Metal is not my most favorite genre of Metal, but if they change it up in their songs, that makes it interesting and I'll like it. Other Death Metal bands I listen to and tolerate are Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, Norther, Dark Tranquillity, and Dimmu Borgir. Each vary their songs enough that it keeps my attention. What I cannot stand is that Brutal Death Metal shit where the vocalist just grunts into the mic over blast beat riffs and double bass drums. That's not music, that's just noise for posers who think that they're being badass or cool for listening to that shit.

Everyone has their own opinion on things. And I guess people get hurt by the fact that you don't/ can't get into their favorite band. So they start to throw insults. Personally when I was first introduced to death, the first thing I did was compare it to obituary . You can clearly hear the style of chucks singing being almost the same as of John tardy. But It didn't take long for me to get into death as I pretty much started to compare them less. Besides death changed their sound on every record , which for me? It was great. I really dislike to listen to repetitive music. So anyway just like deicide, slayer, morbid angel, newer sepultura, possessed, newer venom etc. Got really boring for me( not saying that they are very repetitive) they just got boring. Yes they are bands you can go back to from time to time but yeah sometimes it takes more than 1 listen or 3 to get into a band.
