idk about that... first thing he should have done is tape off the bed with some plastic... I mean ryan should have done that too before the body work but that wouldn't fly in a production shop... normally the whole vehicle is plastic wrapped before any bodywork with just an opening for the work to be done. ... And when he was putting on the clear he took half strokes on the hood and stopped mid hood... i mean he took full strokes with the sealer... why not with the clear? ... this was a yeah theres paint on it type job just to promote their paint.
Lol I'm not sure I would call that a "low budget" paint job. It looks like it was "only" 500.00 because that's what the materials probably cost. Ted's labor and prep would probably make this an $1800+ dollar job. While not a top-flite paint job, an $1800 one to me is a pretty hefty outlay of cash! Truck does look fantastic though, and thanks for the ideas. I need to paint my old rattle-trap car and will use these tips.
That's where your labor comes in. Prepping and running a paint gun isn't exactly rocket science. Why pay for something most people are more than capable of doing by themselves?
@@bmstylee what about a booth? What about the masking tape? What about the sandpaper? What if you don't own a compressor or a paint gun? 500 bucks.... remember
Painted the exact same truck at my house when i was 18 for 400$. That included all the tools and materials too. Just didn’t use a booth, came out good enough for an old work truck. Used an electric paint gun no compressor needed.
Would have been nice to see it up close to see how the paint laid down after dry. Plus that bumper trim looked bad should have done something with it before you put it back on .
Loved everything except not taking care of the windshield and letting white paint get on it. They tried to fix it but clearly still had some residue left on it. Just take the time and tape up all trim and windows before sanding buffing and painting.
Why were the door hands and dually fenders not removed work truck or not the more you strip down a vehicle for paint the better quality job you'll end up with.
*MaN I WISH i knew you were looking to do this My 06 mega cab is in need of some serious paint , i've just lost a lot of the clear coat on mine, evidently Dodge can't figure out how to make paint that lasts either. i'm just up the hill from you in Portland TN so bringing it there wouldn't be an issue at all either, your studio isn't that far away at all*
That was painful watching you use that angle grinder next to the glass, that is a great way to score that glass and ruin it. ALWAYS COVER GLASS when you weld or grind near it
This guy makes it look so easy but it's not, I went through 4 years of body work on my project before having a body shop finish it and paint it. Body work is my least favorite part of a car.
Guys to stiff with the gun. A good painter is like a good dancer smooth just one fluid motion he sees the results in his mind before he ever touches the gun takes practice to get the rhythm once mastered it’s art
He makes it sound like he knows what he's doing, but he looks very rigid with it. He also looks to be too close to the surface, too much overlap (65-70%, really??), and spraying half panels at a time is a horrible practice to get into. Stop being lazy, and walk the vehicle like you should!
@@2005StangMan can tell you been there done that. Old man that taught me always said can’t dance can’t paint. Use to do alki enamel jobs in the day heated the enamel and layed it out with binks 7 you had to have your shit together. Times have sure changed but the application not so much.
2nd gen content lesssss gooooo
The summit paint guy did the best job of explaining how paint actually works that I’ve heard in 30 years. I’ll be happy to see him on another project!
The painter had a real passion for painting vehicles and the way he describes his work is amazing

I love episodes like this! budget friendly, informative and to the point. great work guys
True
Man, I was really wanting to see Kevin show up again. He was great on Trucks
Don't grind near windows. The sparks will embed into the glass.
Learned this the hard way after the fact
Got a second generation Ram pickup truck myself. Used spray cans for a paint job. Now I will try like they did in this video, THANKS.
What did you guys do about the dent on the front fender?
Perfect timing I might paint my truck
Was the bumper cover too expensive for this project? With the new grill the bumper cover would have been nice.
It would look a lot better if they painted the bumper cover white.
%100 agree up valance need to be color matched
@@kennydemartini2169 yes it would...
Should just take a propane torch to it. Makes it look brand new.
Doesn't that summit guy sound like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite?
I had too look that up...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pretty badass on a budget
Great classic episode

@@bmstylee I agree. I've been painting cars for over 30 years, and I always tell people that anybody can paint, bodywork is where the talent shows.

@Captain Blacktooth Wow that is crazy, but sounds awesome. Great tip thank you.
no gasket or RTV on the cab lights, gunna leak like a faucet when it rains lol
Half assed thrown together job to sell the sponsors products.
@@frankloree2462 just some odd corner cutting for a job that's pretty in depth all things considered
They probably just didn’t show that for time purposes
@@maverick9662 but it would make no sense to install them all just to take them off again and put gasket materials on
@@RedBirdTCG that would be true if you were in a garage. But to film for TV, it would be quite different

Sound like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite.😂
Damn I’d love to have that dually
Fix that light bulb hanging by the tailpipe!
Love the aggressive look of the 2nd gens. Very different. Special place in my head
Nice truck.
8:10 Nice ripoff of Papa Roach - Last Resort
I thought it was Green Day's Brain Stew lol
I clicked on this video, expecting the structure of a lift kit fortune thumper phenom. It looks exactly the same.😂
To each their own, but I wouldn’t spray clear a half panel at a time.
Yeah, even on base coat. If this was a metallic paint, it would look terrible when done, you'd have vertical stripes where the spray patterns overlap.

You did all that and didn’t repaint or replace the trim on the front bumper?
10 mins and a heat gun could have brought that black bumper cover back to life.
How about some rusted out floorboard, loving the dodge content.
Cheap paint job in a top notch paint booth?! How’s that work?!
I'll believe these titles the day they show up with a few cans of spray paint worth a 30 rack keystone
I have an old friend that has been a body and paint man for 40 + years. Also a pastor. He would scolded him for wearing his wedding ring .
He would have scolded him for going over body work with a da too
All that and you didn't clean up or replace that black bumper trim piece. Would have been the cherry on top of cleaning up the front end.
Why not remove mirrors, window seals and bed caps?
More 2nd gens 😂 we need them

I have a 96 dodge cummins with 480000 miles I did this to my truck 3 years ago.
Must be nice living somewhere where that’s considered “worn” 😂
well now i know how to do this on my 94 🙂
Should have gone over the bumper cover with a propane torch. Would make it look about brand new.
I would like to do this to my grandfather’s old truck. But I’ll leave the paint to the professionals.
Mr Mackey mmmmkay
Take my money 😭❤
I work at a body shop. This whole video just annoys me bc of how incorrect some things were
It’s been a while since this project was finished , with the prices going ski high why not have Music City trucks do another one .
Just let it rust. People love rusty buckets now days.

Sparks and glass don’t mix. 😡😡
Too narrow, too close, and not running from body end-to body end. This creates all kinds of problems. This guy cannot squirt.
