I super appreciate your themed lists. It's a sorely needed reference for a player like me who only plays locals with friends/known quantities and are more interested in narrative set-ups and themed matches rather than a tournament/competitive meta. I especially love your PoV on the RG theme, this video was invaluable in my setting up my first army.
Here's my 2000 pt RG List. Thoughts and criticism welcome: Kayvann Shrike with Blackout and The Raven's Talons 10 Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs, 6 Bolt Pistols, 5 Relic Weapons, 4 Relic Shields. Captain in Phobos Armour with Bolt Pistol, Instigator Carbine, Combat Knife, and the Ghostweave Cloak (Warlord) 3 Eliminators with 1 Instigator Carbine, 2 Las Fusil, and 3 Close Combat Weapons Lieutenant in Phobos Armour with Master-crafted Scoped Bolt Carbine, Bolt Pistol, and Paired Combat Blades 3 Eliminators with 3 Las Fusil and 3 Close Combat Weapons Librarian in Phobos Armour with Force Weapon, Smite, and Shadow War Veteran 5 Infiltrators with 5 Marksman Bolt Carbines, 5 Close Combat Weapons, the Helix Gauntlet and the Comms Array Chaplain with Jump Pack and Inferno Pistol, Crozius Arcanum, and The Blade Drive Deep 5 Assault Intercessors with Jumpacks, 1 Power fist, 2 Plasma Pistols, and 3 Heavy Bolt Pistols, and 4 Chainswords Lord Inquisitor Kyria Draxus 10 Tactical Marines with 1 Thunder hammer, 1 Combi Weapon, 1 Flamer, and 1 Lascannon, 9 Bolt Pistols, and 10 Close Combat Weapons 5 Incursors with the Haywire Mine, 5 Oculus Bolt Carbines, 5 Bolt Pistols, and 5 Paired Combat Blades 5 Intercessors with 1 Power Fist, 1 Hand Flamer, 1 Astartes Grenade Launcher, 4 Bolt Rifles, 5 Bolt Pistols, and 5 Close Combat Weapons 1 Deredeo Dreadnought with Armored Feet, the Anvilus Autocannon Battery, Aiolos Missile Launcher, and Twin Heavy Bolter 2 Firestrike Servo Turrets with 2 Close Combat Weapons and 2 Firestrike Las-talon 1 Invictor Tactical Warsuit with Fragstorm Grenade Launcher, Heavy Bolter, Invictor Fist, Incendium Cannon, and Twin Ironhail Heavy Stubber 1 Invictor Tactical Warsuit with Fragstorm Grenade Launcher, Heavy Bolter, Invictor Fist, Twin Ironhail Autocannon, and Twin Ironhail Heavy Stubber The idea is to use the various kinds of infantry to contest objectives and obstruct enemy movement. The Eliminators, Deredeo, and Turrets are there to actually kill stuff. Shrike's and the Chaplains squads are there to focus on enemy infantry. Captain gives three Lasfusil free overwatch. The Warsuits are kinda just Chaff that the enemy can't ignore.
Thanks for taking the time to share your list. I like it quite a bit. Though... I'm not one for allies😅 But overall.... I dig it. Definitely has that tacticool flavor I'd want to flex with the RG and the servo turrets are a nice touch.
NOTE: For those like me building a Raven Guard army inspired by this video, if you wanna use the Inceptor Squad, you're gonna have to remove Ghostweave Cloak from the Normal Lieutenant. Otherwise you could swap out the Inceptor Squad for a Hellblaster Squad instead and keep all your enhancements on your characters
Another great video! Nice and thematic, however I think the Lieutenant and Intercessors are the weak link in this list, I have a few options instead to consider to go in the Executioner: 1) instead of the Lieutenant with Ghostweave Cloak (80) take Lord Inquisitor Kyria Draxus (75) instead who can join a Battleline unit in their Transport (Authority of the Inquisition). Both her Xenos Hunter (add 1 to the Hit roll to the Unit, excluding against Imperium and Chaos units) and Psychic Veil (on a 2+, the unit can only be selected as the target of a ranged attack if the attacking model is within 18" - sort of like a unit-wide Lone Op) abilities add thematic value, and with her Dirgesinger and Psychic Tempest that is some nice addition firepower from an otherwise mundane shooting unit; Or, 2) remove the Lieutenant with Ghostweave Cloak and Intercessors (165) and add a Techmarine (55) with Ghostweave Cloak (15), and a unit of 5 Assault Intercessors with Power fist and Plasma pistol on the Sergeant (80) ; Or, 3) remove Execute and Redeploy (-20) from the Phobos Capt and remove the Lieutenant with Ghostweave Cloak and Intercessors (165), and then add 6 Bladeguard Veterans (180) to go in the Executioner. I think any of these options will overall be better at bossing midfield objectives, and in the case of the Techmarine aid the lone Executioner. You could of course drop the Lieutenant and Intercessors for a Callidus Assassin and an Eversor Assassin...!
Great analysis, and thanks for taking the time to write and share it! ☺️ Since I'm biased against allies, I'd personally opt for option 3. 6 blade guard vets would be spicy.
Thanks this was helpful I’m currently build a raptors list that can be run as either dark angels or raven guard by switching out very few units as possible
Big Raven Guard fanboy Only just started learning how to play and learned what they did to chapters. Thanks for showing me how to play Ravenguard despite 10th edition giving them the "simplification" treatment
Nah....Here is the play. 10 Van Guard Vets, all inferno pistols..... Rapid egress deep strike get close to an enemy...Unload into their face with Shrike & 10 inferno pistol & then disappear. Use other deep striking/infiltrating models.+ Librarians to take objectives a Jump Captain to Alph strike as well. Clip two units a turn & score objectives.
RG needs a very punchy unit to help though.... maybe a couple small knights? Apparently some houses can deepstrike a knight or something ?That's fair. Ok pick one Shrike & his boys or that knight...Good luck.
A great list! The list I've been working on is 1 Phobos captain, 3 squads of eleminators, 3 squads of 5 infiltrators and 3 squads of plasma incepters. The idea of this list being that the infiltrators are to screen the force. The elemenators are for fire support, more intending them to soften up a target. The plasma inceptors are the assault units, using their 3 inch deep strike to isolate the enemy into more manageable chunks.
I actually use this detachment alongside BT rules. Basically allows me to have librarians in SB squads and get a 4+ invul with -1 to hit. I also put the infiltration enhancement on a gravis cap with heavy intercessors to secure central objectives. I also bring about 2 squads of eliminators and 1 squad of infiltrators with phobos libs. I have been informed it is a really challenging list to deal with. I have found more success with it then using the BT detachment and the rules/strats from it. For anti armour i either use 2 gladiator Lancers or other vehicle stuff. I just tend to lock down sections of the map which force my oppenant to run a guantlet to get into melee or into position, then they tend to regret melee with SB squads who are dealing 2w and have 3w stats with a 4+ invul.
So this list still works, if you replace the Assault Squad w/JP with the Assault Intercessors w/JP. The Assault Squad doesnt exist anymore. You also have to take Ghostweave Cloak from the normal Lieutenant.
I liked seeing the wound breakdown across the units and toughness - not really considered that before - made me look at my current vanguard (Raven guard) list - 144 wounds across 14 units, 60 at T4, 60 at T6/7, 24 at T10.
It sounds so mean to set shrike up and they can't do anything. Then you move.. shoot.. charge. And he just flies away back into reserves like he was never there.
Can we get a night lords themed list with the new dread talons detachment and kill team upgrade? Would love to see it, maybe even alley in a knight for more battle shock?
Would it be thematic for the marines to be from the 3rd company, considering that's Kayvaan Shrike's previous company before ascending to Chapter Master?
Would making a Black Templars thematic list be possible? I know you already made one in 9th, but it is my resolute belief that they are much more powerful then in the previous edition.
@@WhatThe40k ah! if i had a coin for every warhammer channel ive seen using killer7 music Id had 2 coins, wich is not kuch but it is weird that it happened twice
Gigachad commisar thematic list. 36 ogryn 3 squads of 6 bullgryn and 3 squads of 6 ogryn. 2 stormlords for transport. The commisar with kirovs aquila. And 2 squads of atillians since you got 140 points left.
@WhatThe40k yeah I figured that out for myself. Thank you though, I'm definitely building out my 1st Raven Guard army according to this guide with maybe a few minor tweaks.
Finally a list breakdown of my favorite loyalist legion! Thank you so much 😊.
This. All of this. So stealthy even GW forgets we exist
Not to forget, the Invictor Warsuits also have the Phobos keyword. It could be a lot of fun with all these Phobos Stratagems.
There's only 2 and both are movement oriented. Guerrilla Tactics is the one they'll get most use out of.

6:03 you can give them all one of the special pistols (all plasma, all melta, all grav etc) for some localized, fast special shooting.
Thank you so much for this. The Raven Guard are my favorite chapter and I’m glad to see them get a thematic list video this early.
I love it, I can see this list dismantling my buddies Imperial Guard Artillery army with relative ease.
Just stumbled across this.
Love the theme of it.

I’m not guilty of running the Deathwatch with the Vanguard Detachment. Having a stealthy techmarine dismantle enemy tanks isn’t the only reason.
So this list still works, if you replace the Assault Squad w/JP with the Assault Intercessors w/JP. The Assault Squad doesnt exist anymore. You also have to take Ghostweave Cloak from the normal Lieutenant.

Should be quite likely.
So my question to this is what would a Loyalist Alpha Legion Thematic List look like? Is it more of the same or do you swap out a few things?
