It's not surprising that he doesn't like the Raven Guard. Both legions have many similarities. It is like looking into a mirror that distort your appearance.
I love the ravengaurd because they actually get shit done. As a huge military nerd myself, all of space marine legions are usually aren't vary tactical or realistic in terms of how you fight wars. The ravengaurd actually fight in ways you could actually see being practical aside from the double lighting claw look but hey you can't have everything. They feel more like special forces for astartes then regular marines which I love. The green berets of astartes which is a awesome concept.
I like the Raven Guard for the same reason. I'm also a fan of stealth and spec ops in general. Raptors are probably more up your alley. The same get stuff done mentally just without the lighting claws.
@@Sciontabier 200 raptors got beat by tau and lost a titan under their operation, fought in the Badab war and failed to do much. The raptors look like gar...bage in lore.
and if he managed to become a fully fledged warp beast without selling his soul to a chaos god, he dunked so hard on all of the demon primarchs who became slaves to get their power
The Raven Guard aren't edgy, they're angsty. The Night Lords are edgy. Corvus and the XIX's dower demeanor comes from the fact that they're noble souls fighting for good in a setting where all nobility merits is a painful death; along with the hypocrisy of their legion wanting to be liberators but having to fight for the greatest human tyrant in history. As opposed to the Night Lords who do... Night Lord stuff for laughs
That’s not really a noble soul though. Because their actions are still those of tyrants and hypocrites. At least the Blood Angel’s issue is that they are constantly fighting back the desire to rip open the nearest guardsman and use him as a portable drink. Corvus and his lot whine a whole lot about wanting to make things better, but none of them really get around to that properly, besides one single company who just causes chaos by uplifting an even remotely downtrodden population, damn the consequences for them and the entire sector.
I personally love the aesthetics of the Raven Guard, especially the beak helmets. Black is also one of my favorite colors, so there's that. And I like the idea of a more stealthy legion that focuses on guerrilla warfare and hit n run tactics as oppose to the typical space marines charging into battle while autistically screeching "FOR THE EMPEROR". From a lore standpoint I also love how they'll often prioritize rescuing civilians above all, while also remaining one of the more humble chapters despite their accomplishments. At the end of the day though, if we can have pretty boy vampires (Blood Angels) and edgy Batman wannabes (Night Lords) then we can have goths in power armor.
40k vet here: The thing with Raven Guard is the literal emo aesthetic didn't really exist until the Primaris upgrade sprue, which seemed like a literal joke. Raven Guard have clear gothic elements (literally the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe is kind of the visual and grim-dark theme they inherited), you can argue being pale with dark hair as being literal "goth" as well - but that was never my view early on. Early on the Raven Guard kind of had this almost Italian vibe to them, with their names being very Italian - thus the dark hair and pale features isn't far off from people of Italy and south-eastern Europe. A couple guys in the heresy novels had south Slavic sounding names which fit this physical aesthetic too. The chapter are the ambush, assassination, saboteur marines. They had kind of a partisan vibe going, which made sense because Corvus basically led a guerilla war on Deliverance iirc. And again, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, etc, had massive partisan movements (and generally are pale with dark hair as the norm). To me the gothic vibe was the undertone, an ode to classic horror that gave its influence to 40k as a whole. But Raven Guard are not an army of emos. If anything they are as close to real life U.S Marines, Navy Seals, Spec Ops, as we get. They use infiltration to get close without the enemy knowing, then eviscerate them before they can respond. They use all the tactical gear at their disposal, they are cunning, they are ruthless to their enemies. They ARE the MARINE in SPACE MARINE. But like many chapters the Raven Guard never had the theme fully hammered down. So different people write or design them in different ways. The Forge World guys did a good job and understood the practical, realistic vision of tactical Space Marines. George Mann wrote a lot of their short stories back in the day, and he made them somber marines, rather than anything close to angsty or emo or whatever. But yes you had guys at GW who knew the emo joke and for whatever reason ran with it to give us the comical heads and names for gear and weapons. So really it's up to you how you view the Raven Guard. Are they Spec Ops who have a gothic undertone? Or are they Space goths who have a space ops undertone? For me it's always been the former, I don't even recognize the later except as a joke. If I ever return to Raven Guard you can bet my marines will be militaristic looking with the odd death imagery here and here. Kind of like how US marines frequently wore the Punisher logo in desert storm.
40k newbie here: ive only been into 40k for less then 5 years but ive been contemplating getting into the table top game. This comments section is starting to sell me on getting raven gaurd. Mostly cuz I like both realistic army tactics and Gothic/emo culture. So discovering something that combines the 2 seems really cool to me.
Can you drop some Raven Guard with very Italian names? The few Raven Guard I know from 30K Agapito, Branne, Soukhounou, Aloni Tev Agapito is very Greco name. Aloni is known for being surnames of a lot of Israelis. The only Italian one I can think of is Solaro An.
As a ravenguard and night lords enthusiast, i for one enjoy the edge I do love how there are a few moments in lore where corax goes "oh shit im kinda acting like really similar to curze, yikes that dudes gross" and then in some of curze's lore hes like "fuck that raven bitch were so similar yet all my brothers fucking hate me"
Ravenguard to me epitomise an old phrase i hear tossed around the 40k community from time to time, "a squad of marines can take over an entire planet", and i think the Ravenguard are that in a nutshell. No excessive displays of military might, no ego driven charges into the enemy's frontlines, just a squad of dudes, silently and efficiently dismantling the power structure of a planet without even being seen, with armor strong enough to make killing them a near impossible task for normal humans. Now, are they edgy? Fuck yes, but nobodies perfect
I literally just finished my Forge World Corax ... its sick...and I have the Kayvaan Shrike model in the first picture lol. Been Raven gaurd since like the late 90s.
Ok Arthur asked for our thoughts so I'm going to gush for a while: Raven Guard are probably my favorite loyalist chapter. Part of this is admittedly just the fact I like their armor and bird motif, and the nostalgia I have for them from the McNeill Ultramarines series where they're portrayed really well I feel. That being said, they also aren't COMPLETE goth edgelords. Their mindset is actually fairly interesting, and most of their assassination and stealth tactics come from the fact that they don't like killing civilians and innocents and want to minimize casualties. They often attach small units to Imperial Guard or other mortal forces because they want to protect them, and their command structure is pretty loose because each individual marine is expected to make their own tactical decisions, meaning the average Raven Guard marine needs to actually have a functioning brain as well as common sense...which is more than can be said for a lot of chapters. They're honestly a lot like the Salamanders, but significantly more socially awkward so it doesn't come across as easily. I also find it kinda funny that some of them can actively hear the voices of their dead brothers, but instead of being tormented by them the ghosts of their friends generally just offer encouragement. TL;DR, they have a very edgey exterior but an oddly wholesome interior. Still, whoever did their head sculpts at GW needs to have a serious think about their life choices.
This right here adds support to why the raven gaurd are my top favorite loyalist legion because to me they are mix between the salamanders and iron hands in terms of personality and ethics. Basically like you said they know there purpose to not only fight off the enemies of man kind but also to “protect” those that don’t have the same strength as them, but they also know that there are times where you have to be cold as iron to finish the job.
I play Raven Guard and I want to clear some stuff up 1) Emo≠goth, very different cultures 2) Raven Guard most certainly are not listening to emo rock. They’re going to be blasting Flesh God Apocalypse on the battle field with the aftermath consisting of vibing to Type O Negative and training to Nine Inch Nails 3) Corvus Corax is not a warp daemon. That’s a misconception/meme. He is still primarch/human, he’s just using warp magic to enhance his abilities with the magic being presented in a raven like way. You can read the short story yourself, it’s not long. 4) Fuck Lorgar
I like the Raven Guard a lot, because they are one of the few chapters that actually fight like what they are. Special Forces... No frontline assaults d-day style shit. But using thier marines the smart way without losing half of them every time (looking at you black templars).
I don't care how bad of a cut I could get on all this edge, the 9 foot tall man who just jetpacked into the battle with dual claws and a silenced pistol is badass, I'm also just a bit of a hoe for phobos armor
Phobos just gets hate because it's not iconic, while being the most tactical suits you can get for Space Marines. I'd have thought that war game nerds would love tactical marines, dedicated sniper units, tactical Dreadnoughts, stealth melee and being able to swap your army type at the change of a head but I guess not.
I think the benefits of the raven guard like the ultramarines at times are seen in their successors than the main chapter itself. For example the raptors (raven guard successors) are basically Spartans from halo, while the silver templars focus on the more aristocratic and “proper” elements of the ultramarines focusing on duels and more focused warfare (very emperors children of them if I am being honest). The raven guard are neat, if I a bit goofy, and like the blood angels they need to tone down some of the gimmicks in my opinion.
Maybe in the close co-operation with regular soldiers, more modern soldier-ly spec-ops (or the ideal myth of it or whatever, I think of it as fulfilling shock-troop role of astartes in combination with regular troops) conventions. Also green colour scheme of master-chief and the regular size humans he drives around lining up with the colours of Raptors and Cadian/generic guards. I think?
@Izaak. they are spec ops first and foremost. They also have the master chief green as their color. They tend to function closer to say delta force than shock assault troops.
@Izaak.the raptors aside from the tau are probably the only ones that use modern tactics and strategies. The fight from afar and are called dishonorable by the other chapters because they don’t bum rush the enemy with chain swords
@@nomus1172 the best combo of spave marine chapters to fight together if they got along would be an assault based chapter like the black templars with someone like the raptors going behind the lines and taking out specific things like bases or fuel stations. It’s what happens IRL and it works well there.
If I recall correctly, the Carcharadons are listed as a successor chapter of the Raven Guard. And I do love my Space Sharks, which means I have a certain fondness for the Raven Guard. They roll in, get the job done, and leave. Exactly how a stealth force operates.
Big suspicion is that the Charcharodons are where Corax put all the worst of the old psychos from before he was discovered, and then sent 'em out beyond the Imperium so they'd be the problem of whatever's out there instead.
Just read the third story where Corax says that Angron could beat him. Considering how much of a boss Corax is at dueling and how many times Angron gets bodied in lore, I think this is the most favorable writing I've seen about him and it's well overdue.
Pretty much this. I mean even thinking for a few seconds about 1v2ing Lorgar and Konrad of all people is pretty much as badass as it gets, even if he decided not to in the end.
Everyone who’s heard of the story of demon Primark Corvis ripping apart word bearers needs to read the original material. trust me it is worth it it is amazing hearing about how he tears through these dudes
I did my waiting, 18 legions of it. The thing about the Ravenguard is that to me at least they're dutiful without ego, they do great deeds and really don't care much if people realise they did it or not which is unusual amongst Space marines, a good example is of course Nikona. Their ability to operate independantly, each company essentially does what it wants and has operational autonomy away from Chapter command and to value the usefulness of that flexibility and pragmatism like you mentioned with the Raptors. Their anti-tyranny sentiments (The whole 6th company is devoted to de-throning tyrants) appeals to me alot and just in general I enjoy the uncoventional warfare (and the mild comedy of 8ft super soldiers being capable of disappearing) Corax is baller as well as primarchs go, his attempts to help his legion only going to ruin is tragic and sets the tone for them nicely I think. I must admit we got a little shafted with the emo heads in the new sculpts but if you look at older ravenguard models, thats not the aesthetic originally (I suspect they were going for a winter-soldier vibe and its just... yeah) I did headswaps on mine to beakies (or for unhelmeted ones I went for other space marine options with more high and tight hair cuts) I paint mine with a leaner aesthetic, tilting more onto that operator vibe. The Heresy stuff is particularly good with the Moritat squads & Mor Deythan. I understand they're not for everyone though and some of the 'woe is me' aspects of the lore are a turn off but I've yet to see a legion with 100% cringless lore. Appreciate all the videos, they've been good to watch. :D even if you think my boys are cringey
Gw sculptors from that era weren't able to pull off a face unless it was square and angry. Asking them to incorporate a (lazy) unifying feature like straight black hair and have it look good was probably unattainable back then. I imagine those creases will be ironed out with new better sculpts over time.
Ravenguard is an underrated Legion that does nothing wrong by just getting shit done. A couple Ravenguard nearly killed Fulgrim, told Emperor’s Children to kiss their ass, and outplayed the Alpha Legion. Badass as their Primarch who literally scared Lorgar’s bitchass into going on indefinite hiatus. Corvus better be the third Primarch to return.
Don’t think so, the imperium needed an administrator so they got Robuete, they need a fighter and marshal leader now so they got the Lion, I think the next thing the imperium needs is a builder.
@@zedhiro6131 I think it’d be more interesting to bring in a Primarch that would cause people to have a crisis of faith over whether or not even the loyalist Primarchs are truly their saviors. Corvus is literally the embodiment of everything the likes of the Sisters of Battle and the Black Templars despise, even if he isn’t actually a Daemon Primarch.
I love raven guard for the fact that they care for human life enough to go to worlds abandoned by the imperium, and Corvus is a cool primarch. That plus I like them for all the reasons you hate them, I saw a scheme recently that was so edgy the white white helmets had running mascara, honestly love how they embrace the emo legion lol
Honestly one of the greatest parts of the Raven Guard is that they're know to be freedom fighters while working in the most tyrannical empire ever created. By all accounts they should be a traitor legion, but they're not and thats fascinating
Don’t forget that the more violent types were banished by Corvus Corax and that the Carcharadons stay on the edge of the galaxy while also having pale skin with black eyes
The Raven Guard are one of the most effective and efficient Legions with based lore. They have assisted other Legions in their goals and taken no credit, have gone out of their way to help Guardsmen units and civilians. But their cringe because of their hair. Meanwhile Night Lords aren’t cringe even tho they are the 40k equivalent of white girls who think they are quirky and “not like other girls” because they like slashers and true crime documentaries.
I shouldn’t like the Ravenguard as much as I do because stealth tactics and edge aesthetic aren’t my things. The aspect of the Ravenguard that stick with me the most is that they’re just built to survive, not via fortifications or personal durability or anything; they’re just trained to make it out of fights alive in a modern feeling conventional way. Also the fact that their geneflaw makes them embody the opposite of what made Corvus so great, which was trust.
My thoughts on the Ravenguard going into this were simply that they were the stealth legion. After this video, I realized they are the “CRAWLING IN MY SKIN” legion. I’d say more but I think I’ve summed up my thoughts very nicely.
I think the Raven Guard have a lot of potential & I really like Corvus. I do think they need some time in the sun (literally & metaphorically) but they need some writing & emphasis to flourish.
And their successor chapters too, The Raptors kinda need more respect in the lore, I see it in the comments that they're somewhat one of worst legion, even if they are more tactical or realistic, this is kinda sad, they're super cool too... Ps: sorry for my English, for the most part, I try to not do excruciating errors.
@@mp-1015your English is very good. There are also transfer sheets for the Raptors in the Leviathan Box set. I'm hoping this means they will be very involved in the Leviathan story line.
Wow, I’m new and I chose the Raven Guard not for angst, but I like Corvus and his legions approach to combat, which is almost akin to guerrilla warfare/ninja tactics.
I love the simplified, casual, humorous take you have on the lore. Sometimes embracing the grim dark gets a bit too… cringey. Your take is a wonderful palette cleanser, keep it up man!
The outside humor/memes is what keeps the setting interesting. “Captain Biglarge McMusclehuge dourly gritted his teeth and carved a gore-soaked path through the horrible monstrosities as the normal humans died deaths too disgusting to be written down” is only interesting for so long. *reading book* “Ah yes…the sixth time someone has exploded in a fountain of gore on the same page.”
Raven Guard = Emo Night Lords = Edgelords Alpha Legion = Trolls Raven Guard: _You don't see them, and you don't know they're there._ Night Lords: *You don't see them, but you know they're there.* Alpha Legion: *_-You see them, but you don't know they're there.-_*
I play them because I love birds, all matte black, stealth based. I think they look cool with beak helmets so I converted them all to have beak helmets so the look like birds. 10/10 would recommend. Corvus Corax is tied with fulgrim for my favourite primarch(grrr still no dedicated emporers children models)
I played Arma 3 for a while due to lack of time to be able to actually get into servers and the impossibility of joining due to timezone constraints (I.E. having to join a mission on sunday-monday midnight on a work week). And as I was by myself, besides melee, I learned how to run solo. Of course, for stealth Arma 3 needs a few tweaks (not enought to NOT get caught, mind you) before you get out there, but besides that I was golden. I could sneak around a whole town of NPCs, kill a specific dude and jumppack/run my way out. The last mission I ever ran by myself was an intervention between Dark Angels and Night Lords. I tasked myself with providing as much support as possible. The mission would fail if the last Dark Angels marine fell. I sniped Devastator units so that the armor can move forwards and engage theirs, and once the marines made it into town I used the distraction to sneak around the back and start lightning clawing my way through the back till the last marine was dead. This playstyle feels cool and accurate, and I wish I could've been on an actual Arma 3 server properly to both continue this in a more organized way, and to show the things I learned by myself.
As someone who genuinely loves the NuMetal era of music, I actually have started liking the raven guard more because of this video. The aesthetic can be grating or cringe to someone who doesn’t enjoy it, but for me it scratches a certain itch. I might get a box of marines and paint them ravenguard, but with allusions to bands I like, ie. slipknot marine, system of a down marine, etc.
honestly it seems you and I differ on almost all our key preferences regarding the astartes legions you find the blood angels bland, I find them to be more interesting and compelling than most other legions. your preferred chaos legion are the death guard while I prefer the emperor's children, etc so it comes as no surprise that we differ here too. I've always been drawn to emo/goth/alt aesthetics, and I like that the raven guard are these shadowy avengers delivering righteous vengeance through stealth and skill rather than sheer force of arms I love that this hobby has room for people with all kinds of different tastes and I love the way you approach making your videos. I can't wait to see what you cover next after the legions
I like the idea of the Ravens. A stealthy space marine is terrifying when done right, like a gorilla becoming a martial artist/gymnast. The whole emo/ninja deal doesn’t fit. The idea of a mark of armor built to move faster, quieter at the expense of power and protection is interesting. The idea of an 8+ foot tall, 2000 lb black suit of armor perfectly blending into the shadows is ridiculous. I think it should have been given some sort of chameleon color changing ability which renders it more stealthy yet delicate.
The idea of an eight-foot tall legion of bodybuilders, decked in power armor specializing in _STEALTH_ is endlessly entertaining to me. Plus, Corvus seems like a pretty nice guy. (Relative to the Galactic Standard)
Raptors are great, cool color, easy to collect, interesting lore. Cons: there is little lore and it’s hard to find mentions of them, there are no unique units, there is still no chapter master miniature (and there are rules for it).
I am so sad! This 20 part serious is almost over! You do such a good job with these short form videos on each legion. I love it. Cant wait for Alpha Legion next!
So I started collecting Iron Ravens as my second army after i realized I liked shooting armies more than melee. I initially wanted to build blood angels and paint them as charcharadons, but got sidetracked and collected imp knights instead. It wasnt the lore or charm of the raven guard that drew me in, but the paint scheme and the chapter description for the iron ravens that did, plus a general hatred for lorgar
imo the point of the Raven Guard is that they do not give a fuck about being honorable or whatever, but about being efficient. And that is why they are the only ones who fight properly: nothing about epic last man stands, nothing about epic charges. If things go wrong, leave. If you have to intervene, be precise. Don't waste resources and use them in the best way. Camo, snipers, guerrilla warfare etc have nothing bad. But sadly they have all that goth edgy feel. I remember a guy who sculpted Corax at a super high good level (way before the Heresy novels). His Corax was not emo, his Corax was based in North American natives... and was cool as fuck and extremely fitting. Just imagine that for a moment, it just works!
I adore the raven guard, iron hands and salamanders, have a force of iron hands and I'm decidin whether or not to do raven guard or salamanders next. Might have to go for the raven guard since you read out my old music playlist.
Raven Guard are my favorite chapter because even though I never dressed like one, I was a goth at heart all throughout highschool. Nowadays, I love how fuckin' doofy they are. The First Founding book has a bit in it about how the Raven Guard psychically screen their aspirants and only admit the ones who are 100% pure of heart and dedicated to the principles of freedom and justice, and I think it's the funniest bit of 40k lore I've read all year. (As for Daemon Corax, I think the "giant bird demon" thing is a bit of fanon; the actual work this comes out of describes him as being perceived by another character as a giant, vaguely bird-shaped silhouette of solid shadow, which really does just sound like an evolution of his whole "Can disappear from mortal eyes like The Shadow" superpower he always had. We have no idea whether he's actually a bird demon or if that's just a spooky projection or something, and won't until GW puts out a mini, which will probably be never.) Also also, never let it be forgotten that as much as vocal 40k fandom mocks Kayvaan Shrike, his mini is by far the most popular Space Marine mini amongst online 40k women's fan groups.
I play them because I like the idea of more tactical/stealth warfare and drop pod assaults thought I feel like they keep getting buffed to usable and then nerfed into the ground plus Its also frustrating preferring first born over primaris. For context I came into 40k just prior to 8th editions launch.
While not a fan of the beaky helms or the 'Emo' aesthetic, I absolutely love the look of pretty much all the Raven Guards successors. Raptors, Black Guard, Revilers.... Very cool!
Birb Bois have their angsty goth aesthetic, but underneath there's a strong potential identity built around their liberating slave roots, extensively using special forces tactics, working closely with and respecting mortal soldiers, a humanitarian ideal and generally being smarter and saner than their cousins. A little like if Vulkan ran the Alphas. Just like the Ultramarines, they are intelligent and responsive strategists who are well suited to fighting a war and they do not forget why (and for who) they fight. Although just like the Ultramarines, the meme that forms around them completely avoids mentioning anything of what makes them interesting...
My 40k army is actually Ravenguard, and honestly it's because their theme ISN'T the usual 'Run at it chainsword go brrr' or Just making massive gunlines. Granted 10th has pretty much done away with the stealthy uniqueness, here's hoping they get a good detachment in the 'dex, but I loved the theme. Flanking shenanigans, ambushes, snipers, there aren't many chapters that got on with that kind of asymmetric warfare. I love a good wall of guns as much as the next guy but while they were far from good in 9th (I play for fluff, not for competitiveness) they just had a playstyle I jived with more than most. Plus I think Corax is pretty rad, would love to see him as a model on the tabletop. Given the kinds of powers he's obtained, I think he would be very different to someone like Rowboat Girlyman or The Lion.
I think an easy step forward for them if they were to move away from the emo thing, would be to kinda draw inspiration from native american culture. The style of aggressive hit and run warfare would be a good fit, you could still keep the long, dark hair, but make visual improvements, and the raven is overall pretty significant to many first nations myths. I think it would be a cool way to expand the faction, and a great source of inspiration.
I'm building a Revilers (2nd founding successors made of Istvaan V survivors) because I like their fluff of Jungle anti ork specialists. I added an ork skull to every backpack to make the Orks believe they are watching them even with their backs turned, like some people in India and other jungle countries use a mask in the back of their faces to scare the tigers and big felines so they dont attack them while they work.
Stealthy, effective, pragmatic and frightening, Gods I love these birds. 4th favorite of all the legions and their primarch is my second favorite of all time. Legends say that to this day both Word Bearers and Nightlords still check under their beds for Raven Guard. BTW their fabulous hair comes as a result of Corvus' gene seed and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Raven Guard were one of the first chapters that I was drawn to when I started playing way back when. I really liked the old assault marine miniatures, mark 6 helmets and lightning claws (I remember converting some sergeants using the old metal Terminator lightning claw arms). The black armour was really easy for a young me to paint (Chaos black spray, detail guns/swords, paint some parts light grey then white, base, done). Never remember the army doing particularly well but it was good fun. I found the background of the legion quite interesting as it's one where the primarch really was at odds with how the legion operated and how this played out during the Great Crusade.
the RG are my favorite because the guy at my local games store had a small shelf of black library books and he was showing off the corvus corax primarch book and he straight up shit himself during the showcase he did for the 3 people in the store, including him and I.
I like their spec ops look and more pragmatic outlook. Could definitely go for less brooding and instead make them more level headed and professional. Could add some comedy for them as well on occasion. It honestly would not hurt.
I just like them because they're the only chapter that make wide use of the corpus pattern helmet, which i love, combine it with that simple yet elegant black armor white helmet combo, and that simple red detail on the shoulder, makes it the best chapter color pattern of all the chapters, i love it so much
Pretty sure that Raven Guard is the only legion that wears skinny jeans. And Sharrowkyn is still the bro for wraith slipping and beating the absolute brakes off Lucius. Twice.
Man do we need Corvus and Sharrrowkyn back the badass Deamon like Primarch whooping ass and it’s best warrior to make his legion stronger again if it’s gonna be someone to kill Erebus and beat Lorgar again it’s gonna be our Crow boy
As a massive raven guard fan I’m hurt. But to be fair a 3rd of their homebrews are literally just “night lords but loyal” not that I’m complaining or anything.
Why is it always Night Lords fans with the worst takes As for the Raven Guard, they are actually not even edgy at all. Arguably the nicest and most relatable space marine chapter, second only to Salamanders.
The raven guard and the imperial fists are those chapters where there successor’s typically cooler than they are. The raven guard have the carcharadons astra and the raptors. The imperial fists have the black templars the crimson fists and the retributors, from the astartes animation, there cannon now by the way.
I don't play the Raven Guard but I do like the chapter. I'll admit that they do look like edge lords and need to keep the helmets on. On a side note you're comments about them are on point and reminded me of some Letter Kenny level chirping. So with that being said I give this episode a 10/10!
Of the many legion that cared for the people of the imperium (Salamander, Raven Guard,White Scar) , i like them the best. Unlike that certain terrorist that cower when the going get tough, the raven guard stay and fight (which may have cause them to got f by many of their enemies)
Favorite Legion and the rules I worked with before 10th. I like them. I think I prefer the Raptors in terms of looks, but, Raven Guard do have drip IMO.
I think Raven Guard can be a lot cooler if they were aesthetically done better both in looks and in lore. I feel like if we had more exploration and intrigue into their chapter, they would be more fun. Like, imagine if the Raven Guard were known specifically targetting signs of corruption and slavery in the galaxy, where they act like secret police where they are stationed and try to wrestle between the issues of the imperium's desire of corruption and the Raven Guard's desire for freedom of all without putting themselves in serious trouble, like a inbetween of Salamanders and Ultramarines when it comes to civilian care. Hell, they'd be perfect as secret police or as spies commendeered by the Inquisition and you can explore that path. Focus less on the emo and dark aesthetic and more of the brighter side of the same coin to the Alpha Legion and Night Lords that was made a plot point in the books, as well harkening to Corvus' own beliefs. I also think it'd be neat if they try to use Corax to reinstate Malice as a player, like saying Malice used Corax's desire to destroy his tainted brothers and chaos after the raptor incident that Corax became a daemon primarch in his name by accident. I also definitely think giving Corax, as unlikey as it is, a model in his daemon form to play as for Raven Guard. Everyone who knows Raven Guard probably states that daemon Corax is their favorite part and that would definitely boost up popularity for the chapter and add alot of tragedy and intrigue to the current storyline without affecting too much stuff as he would probably stay hidden and do his own thing.
Yeah, you wanna go out cause it's raining and blowing You can't go out 'cause your roots are showing Dye 'em black Ooh, dye 'em black Black, black, black, black number one Black, black, black, black number one
I don't know if I should be surprised, or wholly unsurprised, that a Night Lords fanboy doesn't like the Raven Guard that much.
It's not surprising that he doesn't like the Raven Guard. Both legions have many similarities. It is like looking into a mirror that distort your appearance.
Night Lords are just edgier Raven Guard so I can see why NL fans might just view RG as NLs but worse
The Night Lords are real edgy, the raven guard look like they're too hard to be edgy.
Ow the edge
Trying to hard*
I love the ravengaurd because they actually get shit done. As a huge military nerd myself, all of space marine legions are usually aren't vary tactical or realistic in terms of how you fight wars. and if he managed to become a fully fledged warp beast without selling his soul to a chaos god, he dunked so hard on all of the demon primarchs who became slaves to get their power

@@Sciontabier that's probably not happening anytime soon but, I agree it'd be RAD AF
I simply like Raven Guard for a few simple reasons: snipers, stealth, the color black, and spookiness. They’ve always been my main army
All very good reasons.
Heretic found. PURGE
@@BloodyArchangelus Why are you booing him? He's right!

huummmm actually bird boy said that he joined the empirium to make it a better place instead of just fighting against it and letting it go worse
The raven guard is literally the only legion that acts like real special forces
40k vet here:
The thing with Raven Guard is the literal emo aesthetic didn't really exist until the Primaris upgrade sprue, which seemed like a literal joke.
Raven Guard have clear gothic elements (literally the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe is kind of the visual and grim-dark theme they inherited), you can argue being pale with dark hair as being literal
"goth" as well - but that was never my view early on.
Yeah 100%, ravenguard aren’t emo, they are only emo because of the jokes and memes because of their wild upgrade sprues.
Can you drop some Raven Guard with very Italian names?
The few Raven Guard I know from 30K Agapito, Branne, Soukhounou, Aloni Tev
Agapito is very Greco name.
Aloni is known for being surnames of a lot of Israelis.
The only Italian one I can think of is Solaro An.
I was coming to comment this as well. My second favourite Loyalist SM legion, after the Dark Angels. Guess I have a thing for ravens.
Yeah, Shrike's new design is a bad joke
As a ravenguard and night lords enthusiast, i for one enjoy the edge
I do love how there are a few moments in lore where corax goes "oh shit im kinda acting like really similar to curze, yikes that dudes gross" and then in some of curze's lore hes like "fuck that raven bitch were so similar yet all my brothers fucking hate me"
And then there are the Space Sharks...They combine the best of both xD
Ravenguard to me epitomise an old phrase i hear tossed around the 40k community from time to time, "a squad of marines can take over an entire planet", and i think the Ravenguard are that in a nutshell. No excessive displays of military might, no ego driven charges into the enemy's frontlines, just a squad of dudes, silently and efficiently dismantling the power structure of a planet without even being seen, with armor strong enough to make killing them a near impossible task for normal humans. Now, are they edgy? Fuck yes, but nobodies perfect
No edgier than the Night Lords
It's 40k, half the fun is how it has more edge than a circular saw

Ok Arthur asked for our thoughts so I'm going to gush for a while:
Raven Guard are probably my favorite loyalist chapter.
There is nothing wrong about looking like a goth in a HIGH GOTHIC setting!
@@tastefulavenger You know what, that is a VERY good point.
@@tastefulavenger Couldn’t have thought of a better response, fuck yeah
I play Raven Guard and I want to clear some stuff up
1) Emo≠goth, very different cultures
2) Raven Guard most certainly are not listening to emo rock. They’re going to be blasting Flesh God Apocalypse on the battle field with the aftermath consisting of vibing to Type O Negative and training to Nine Inch Nails
3) Corvus Corax is not a warp daemon. That’s a misconception/meme. He is still primarch/human, he’s just using warp magic to enhance his abilities with the magic being presented in a raven like way. You can read the short story yourself, it’s not long.
4) Fuck Lorgar
It's funny you say that because Peter Steel was probably the closest someone has come to looking like a real space marine
Phobos armor is sick tbf
@@MydasAU definitely the better nu marines stuff.
Oh! So now the Night Lords stan is going to preach to us about edginess!
I think?
@@hippocampussashimi7819 yeah it’s basically that. They take a lot more from traditional special forces and that makes me like them a lot.
@Izaak. they are spec ops first and foremost.
Corax backstory about rallying his prison colony for rebellion is one of the best upbringings of the primarchs.
Ya it's badass
Corax angered Angron by saying
My slaves rose up and was victorious, yours rose up and are now dust and bones.
Yes. Raven Guard. *coughs*
not one of the better factions, but definitely one of the more underrated primarchs
You just put into words what I've been trying to wrap my head around for awhile now. Oddly, I think I feel the same about the Night Lords.

I agree with you 100%
I second the guy above me.
Corvus better be the third Primarch to return.

“Fuck Erebus” should be the battle cry for the entire Imperium of Man.
That's an L, Arthur, they are awesome

Raptors are still my favorite space marine chapter because they prefer hit and run long range attacks rather than melee

Raven Guard = Emo
Night Lords = Edgelords
Alpha Legion = Trolls
Raven Guard: _You don't see them, and you don't know they're there._
Night Lords: *You don't see them, but you know they're there.*
Alpha Legion: *_-You see them, but you don't know they're there.-_*
I play them because I love birds, all matte black, stealth based. I think they look cool with beak helmets so I converted them all to have beak helmets so the look like birds. 10/10 would recommend. Corvus Corax is tied with fulgrim for my favourite primarch(grrr still no dedicated emporers children models)
They are basically introverts but have to be liberators.
Night Lords are more edgy.
I might get a box of marines and paint them ravenguard, but with allusions to bands I like, ie. slipknot marine, system of a down marine, etc.

you find the blood angels bland, I find them to be more interesting and compelling than most other legions. your preferred chaos legion are the death guard while I prefer the emperor's children, etc
so it comes as no surprise that we differ here too. I've always been drawn to emo/goth/alt aesthetics, and I like that the raven guard are these shadowy avengers delivering righteous vengeance through stealth and skill rather than sheer force of arms
I love that this hobby has room for people with all kinds of different tastes and I love the way you approach making your videos.
I like to think of them less as "the stealth legion" and more as "the special forces" legion.
Whenever one reaches this level of edge, you either love it or hate it.
you where simply born in the edge meanwhile i was molded by it night lord to a raven guard
@@slimboarder.o7So you judt turned a bat to a raven ,that it.
Thanks for listing off so many bands for me to add to my Spotify. Middle school me definitely would have enjoyed such variety back then.
imo the point of the Raven Guard is that they do not give a fuck about being honorable or whatever, but about being efficient.
We have no idea whether he's actually a bird demon or if that's just a spooky projection or something, and won't until GW puts out a mini, which will probably be never.)
Also also, never let it be forgotten that as much as vocal 40k fandom mocks Kayvaan Shrike, his mini is by far the most popular Space Marine mini amongst online 40k women's fan groups.
Honestly if Raven Guards worst feature can be fixed with a beaky helmet, they're doing a lot better than most of the Legions
I play them because I like the idea of more tactical/stealth warfare and drop pod assaults thought I feel like they keep getting buffed to usable and then nerfed into the ground plus Its also frustrating preferring first born over primaris. For context I came into 40k just prior to 8th editions launch.
I'd make a TTS reference but Corvus always speaks so poetically that his words never stick in my head.
Genuinely my favourite space marines and yea the faces are a bit..off but overall the black clad armour and grim pragmatism is what i like about them.
I feel like the aesthetic could be almost entirely saved if they just had full beards.
Man, by this point you're a staple in what I'm sub'd to.
While not a fan of the beaky helms or the 'Emo' aesthetic, I absolutely love the look of pretty much all the Raven Guards successors. Raptors, Black Guard, Revilers.... Very cool!
I like the helmets. They are similar to allot of classic Medieval helms and give them a distinct silhouette.
4:05 The silliness of having the space marine using his giant armored finger to tap his ear piece.
As a Night Lords fan, LET THE EDGE FLOW
I really want your take on Gray Knights and few successor chapters like Lamenters or Dark Hunters.
Also great video as always.
I really like the Raven guard because it’s hilarious being a Space Marine stealth chapter that can’t be seen in 1 ton of power armor! Lol
BILLY TALENT man shit you just brought me back, havent thought of them in years.
the RG are my favorite because the guy at my local games store had a small shelf of black library books and he was showing off the corvus corax primarch book and he straight up shit himself during the showcase he did for the 3 people in the store, including him and I.
I like their spec ops look and more pragmatic outlook. Could definitely go for less brooding and instead make them more level headed and professional.
Could add some comedy for them as well on occasion. It honestly would not hurt.
I just like them because they're the only chapter that make wide use of the corpus pattern helmet, which i love, combine it with that simple yet elegant black armor white helmet combo, and that simple red detail on the shoulder, makes it the best chapter color pattern of all the chapters, i love it so much
I just subscribed. It was a long time coming. I always enjoy your videos and should have done it sooner. Emperor protects, BRUVA
Fucking love these legion videos good job man
Big thanks!
I put a lot of effort into them
@@TheBoneZone40khow confused are you regarding researching the Alpha Legion?
As a Raven Guard fanboy:
Luv me beakies
Luv me jump pack
Luv me thunda claws
Ate Word Bearers
Ate Lorgar
Ate Erebus
3:11 ...yeah thats a accurate chart
Ravenguard are only edgy if you make them edgy. Same goes for “emo”
Cheers for the 'playlist' recommendation, thinking I'll play it next time I put my Ravens on the table.
You got a new sub, love your style of comedy and delivery.
Why is it always Night Lords fans with the worst takes
As for the Raven Guard, they are actually not even edgy at all.
Didn't know that much about the Raven Guard, thanks for the vid, I just liked the RG for the corvid theme.
hate chaos, love crows
I absolutly love the Raven guard. I found it funny that everything that was criticized were reasons for why I like them lmao. Good Video tho👍
*Death Company swooping in*
"Death Company better nerds!"
*Proceeds to berserk out of the room*
3:11 either that's one tall ass, NBA freakshow of a human human or they managed to transform a squat into an astartes
Ok I feel attacked with that music selection
The Reven Guard are not more cringe than the Night Lords.
I've listened to a shit load of lore on RUclips and your videos are always great. Looking forward to the last one in the series 🖕
Yeah, you wanna go out cause it's raining and blowing
You can't go out 'cause your roots are showing
Dye 'em black
Ooh, dye 'em black
Black, black, black, black number one
Black, black, black, black number one
