Yeah true, but considering it got released long before trial chambers, Minecraft players were extremely thirsty for monster fighting and dungeon grinding.

Minecraft dungeon's actual game is REALLY great and interesting imo, such a shame its so short but I do still love dungeons. Dont bother with the dlc (apart from echoing void) tho.
So i initally skipped this video because I pretty much know all about this but, after watching, I appreciate that you are concise yet it feels as though you've done thorough research.

Maybe they prepare some redemption. Some rumours talk about Dungeons comeback. But they could have also just given up for a bit after Legends failure

Personally, for me, Dungeons wasn't that bad, but Legends is a total failure (one of the worst games of the last 10 years)
Honestly, Minecraft Earth would have succeeded if it weren't for the global crisis at the time of launch. Had they have kept servers on for two more months, they'd have some more rolling in...
Yeah that's a shame, because it was a second Minecraft spinoff which got cancelled and Mojang had little to nothing to do about it

I just grew up with is so that makes me angry about calling ut a bad game
I just say it ultimately failed, not because of it being bad (the game was awesome also it's popularity and rating proved that), but creators got bankrupt and it was cancelled
@New_Skeptic they are still around because they got picked up by another company but they don't have thr minecraft license anymore and that's why it hasn't be rereleased
A lot of bad takes IMO. This comment is just my personal opinion and situational assessment aswell:
1. Story mode was trash.
Don't get me wrong, I played the game as a child too, but looking back on it, it's just the most cringe-inducing badly-written IP-cashgrab.
It would have died sooner or later, even if TellTale would have lived.
2. Earth is just a stupid concept
Pokémon GO was an incredibly good idea. It gave people an opportunity to become a Pokémon trainer like in the games, exploring the mystical Kanto region (or rather Frankfurt am Main), whilst catching Pokémon and fighting with other Pokémon trainers.
Where do Minecraft's core concepts now fit into that?
It would have had a huge popularity spike before dying off withing a month or so - even if it would have been released at peak Pokémon GO hype in 2016 because it just doesn't bring anything to the table, besides Millenial/Gen-Z-bait graphics and IP. And releasing this so long after Pokémon GO's peak just seems like sunk cost fallacy at that point.
3. Dungeons was a really good game
As someone who has over 50hrs in the game from before it even fully released, yes, it does get pretty repetitive. But that's just the kind of game that Dungeons is. It wants you to grind on ever-increasing levels of difficulty to have a chance of unlocking a slightly better weapon. More content on release would certainly not have been bad, but the point stands.
More confusingly though you critiqued, that "[It forgets] about the fundamental part of Minecraft. In Minecraft you can do everything, yet you are not forced to do anything." What exactly is you're critique here? Minecraft Dungeons is by definition a Dungeon Crawler. Minecraft a Sandbox. Those are completely different types of games. One is by nature the least linear kind of game possible, whilst the other is an action-RPG of sorts. Minecraft Dungeons is just Diablo for kids with the funny block graphics. If you want it to be a Sandbox, just play normal Minecraft.
4. I also don't think Legends killed Dungeons
As you yourself said in the video, Dungeons was not meant to be a forever-thing. It was always planned to end at some point. This should definitely have been better communicated (or at all for that matter), but look at it from this perspective:
They developed the game longer and added more content than they ever planned to.
Now they can either:
- Keep the game "alive" on half-assed paid-DLC life support and milk the remaining community for money until the games name is sufficiently dragged through the mud
- Or just kill it while people still remember it fondly
I personally prefer the latter by a long shot.
