One tip my dear friend taught me in addition to adding salt to your water for boiling is vinegar...she add 1/4 cup of vinegar to the mix. I think vinegar wakes up the flavor.

    • @donnaoberlin3431

Yes, that's true! Vinegar is acidic, when added to the boiling water, it softens the bones and the marrow; making them more flavorful.

I wash the neck bones real good, but I don't cut anything off and don't scrape out the marrow, I leave the marrow in the groves, it's great to eat, also, I leave the veins going through the neck bones, I eat it all,

almost like a rib tip, without the hard gristle! They look so good! I would like to make them with kraut and potatoes! Delicious! But I have a question, Chris. My grocery store doesnt sell neck bones. Where can I find them? I would love to prepare them and other "soul food", like hocks and pigs feet, I cant find in my grocery. :( Also, I think you should introduce Sir Maximillian to us! He barks out to meet us everytime!! lol... Give him a belly rub from me!

Miss Chris your food makes me miss my grandma. She was Caribbean mixed Spanish Italian and African and she made a Spanish style BBQ nevkbones with rice beans and bitter greens. Instead of corn bread we ate a hoecake with okra. I was wondering if you had a good recipe for joe cakes with okra? I take your recipes and mix in my grandma's seasonings and I swear she's with me.

Most importantly, thank you for showing how to clean them.I boil mine with 2-4 capful of vinegar & salt for about 30 minutes, pour off the scumming water, clean them, add fresh clean water, and cook to tender good!! I grew up in Africa and this is the typical kind of food that we used to eat. But I'm living in the UK now and you can't buy neck bones in the supermarket. I can't get turkey necks or gizzards either. But luckily I found a Muslim halal shop that sells them at a good price. But it's so far away to travel to get it. So when I do go, I stock up and put them in my freezer. Thanks for this great tutorial by the way.....:)
