I think he meant into actual human contact
@@Vanis1fan wtf 😬
I’ve lived in Australia all my life and I have never seen a funnel web, so I guess he is right.
They avoid human contact- though they tend to wander into residential areas because of the mass destruction of habitat. Given this spider's extremely limited range- its natural habitat is easily intruded upon by human development. Therefore, contact with this species is likely to increase over time by our fault, not the spiders.

Really, it’s the best thing you can do. Keeps it out of suburbia, where it could bite a small child or someone not paying attention. Saves lives, keeps antivenin stocks up, just all-round helpful. If untreated, a Sydney Funnel Web bite could be potentially fatal in as little as 15 minutes.
@@15sixmedia Sounds like a good idea in theory until I get bit trying to be Coyote Peterson. I think I'll leave the deadly spider catching to the experts.
Just a few weeks ago there was a Sydney funnel web in my garage and we put it in a glass jar but we were all to scared to take it to the anti venom in case it got out of the jar
I know someone who died from this spider. No joke, he was in Australia and tried to put on a boot barefoot, and there was a funnel web spider in his boot that bit him. Sadly, he did not survive. Rest in peace.

I saw a woman who was bitten in the early 1980s before anti-venom for the funnel web was widely distributed in Australia. She barely survived the bite. She had lost large hunks of flesh ...She said she had violent seizures for months and that she would inadvertently foam at the mouth. As she talked she was shivering as if cold, and said she was told the shaking was probably permanent. I was impressed by her optimism when she said "At least I wasn't allergic to the venom ...I probably would be dead."
Where can i see it
@@talktothesand88 I cannot find the vid of the woman from the special in the 1980's.... BUT...... I did find two RUclips first hand accounts: RUclips search box this title - "Mother Talks About Surviving Funnel Web Spider Bite" (Caters Clips) and "Funnel Web Bite Interview" - (Survival TV).... Hope its what your looking for.
Growing up in the mountains west of Sydney there were thousands of funnel webs around. Under my swing in a tree was spider holes every 20 cm apart, I used to run bare foot through the forests and luckily was never bit. They are quite reclusive spiders, once there were 5 found in my school library in one day amongst the cushions piled in the corners. We even had to spray the legs of the beds with surface spray, and have no long blankets that could be crawled up. Mostly they stick to themselves though and prefer not to be bothered. I later moved to Queensland and had a whistling spider on my neck when I woke up, not thinking I grabbed it and threw it across the bed, so lucky not bit, but it was huge a full hand full. Had many huntsman on me too but never been bit.
Luck really has been on your side. Australia's crazy, wow.
@@annastar6936 it's really not as bad as you might think they are a very reclusive spider, preferring to hide. That being said probably still a little lucky though.

I've always had arachnophobia. At one point in my life I was trying to desensitize myself and got to a point where I didn't freak out at first glance. I had actually gotten where I could touch a spider. I took my kids to a local zoo's petting lab. They had their orange kneed tarantula out and were letting people hold it. When the lady said, Anyone else want to hold him, (referring to the spider). I slowly raised my hand. I held out my hand, palm up and took a deep breath. The spider barely touched my hand and I passed out lol.
That’s a wild amount of progress though. I applaud your ambition my friend, you’re definitely braver than I am lol.
I was getting over my fear of spiders because I thought, "oh they will not bother me if I don't bother them", then I got bit by a black widow in my sleep so it is on sight between us now.
