During the Harlem Renaissance and beyond, the powerful of the pen through songwriting and literature were the protest marches. I was always more of a fan of her songwriting than her singing. Very powerful and genius lyrics she put on paper. Despite her personal challenges, Ms. Holiday loved her people and sacrificed her life for us. Billie Holiday was so ahead of her time.

I’m a history major so we had to study this song in African American literature class.
i saw the picture in an ebony magazine in the back of the book when they would put pictures that happen back then and what got to me was the man was pointing up like he was saying this can happen to you if you were black in those times and they way his face look it was pure rage and mind you i was a kid see this for the first time im 25 now and it didn't scare me it just made me not forget that man face at the time, mind you i come from a family that don't sugercoat anything they tell it like it is, and that what made me speak out on issues dealing with civil rights.
