- In this video we discover the reason for low output as well as no output as well as the way to remedy the problem. As we know the Rhodes Piano uses Alnico magnets inside the pickups, and they can actually demagnetize for various reasons such as being too close to a powerful transformer or other things like opposite pole magnets being too close, age, abuse etc.
The only way to repair them is to re-magnetize them. Unfortunately without a proper magnetizer you cannot do this. Vintage Vibe manufactures all Rhodes parts including pickups.

Perhaps the demagnetization could be caused by keyboards being placed on top with built in speakers? The speaker magnets would indeed be above either end of the Rhodes...
Also thanks for continuing to share your wisdom and investing so much time and skill into these treasures! Love your work gang
Sounds like John Ginty on the Hammond during the scene taking apart the rhodes! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome work! Can you share any details about the magnetizer? How strong are the magnets needed for this job?

@@kyledugger1413 is there any magnetizer that can do the job without the need to disassmble the pickups from the piano?
@@kyledugger1413thank you

Hey guys, is there a video of you out there on how to use your key bushing set?
Wish there was more details on the magnetizer
What kind of magnetizer do you guys use?
Good job Chris I wish I could send mine over for a total checkout. Andy
Is there a cheap magnetizer that would work as well?
i see magnetizers that cost $2 and some that cost $200.. can i do this with a cheap one?
I have a mk v that just has no juice. it just sounds weak. Ive tinkered with the pickups and just can't get a good tone.. really irritating
Interesting. What would be a suitable repair for someone who can’t send you the entire piano? Send in just the pickups for remagnitization or replacement? Would this also benefit “working” pickups and enhance their output?
Christoffer Ainek Yes, you could easily send us your pickups. Please contact us through our website.
@@VintageVibePianoI have that same problem ! I will send you my harp
Can i send my pik ups all taped together to you of can you sugest where i can get the magnet tool you use or something that will work lower cost Donald Broussard?
If I send you my pickups, can you magnetize them?
Thanks for the heads up, scary - moved my 1031a 5 inches away right after watching this, though they're supposed to be magnetically shielded... - but indeed they still cause a very light hiss from their toroidal transformers when switched on (but so does a ProReverb one foot away on the floor, which I move away a few more feet for recording purpose). Are there any guidelines on what is still acepptable without causing damage to the pickups? I assume the classic moog on top is causing some extra hum, too?
What side of the Rhodes pickup is north??
keyboard ontop or speaker ontop probably the issue
i have 1 key that makes a thumping sound thats it
