The sound of the keyboard at the beginning of the video reminded me of Gino Vannelli's "Powerful People" album. He hails from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I believe you might enjoy it.
yeah, so much of Gino's stuff was based around his brother Joe's playing on the Rhodes. People Gotta Move, I Just Wanna Stop...such tremendous playing and arranging. Their music stands up today absolutely as well as the day it was released...and the Rhodes was at the heart of a whole lot of it. A superb video. Thanks for sharing.
I bought a Rhodes in 1995 and then sold it to a saxophone player shortly thereafter. I regretted it after I started listening to Funk Jazz over the next few years. I looked for one for years to no avail. I finally prayed that God would let me find one! One day in 1999, I was driving from Arkansas to New Jersey and the traffic came to a sudden standstill in front of me. I decided to take a break, backed up a few hundred feet and got off the exit ramp to get fuel and eat. I stopped in a tiny music store and they had a pristine Rhodes from 1978 that still had the manual with it! I paid $500.00 for it, crammed it into my Toyota and drove away happy as the traffic was clearing up.
When you get a room full of people that can play like this, it's just a reminder that there is a sea of talent out there and only the very few really see daylight. What a fun video man.

I'm currently halfway through this episode, but I must already say that Claudio's collaboration with Anthony is one of the best that has happened on the Earth's Internet.
Anthony Marinelli has rapidly become legendary. Gotta love when you can feel the passion from a fellow aficionado. Haha a Keyboard hero in the TRUE sense.
Amazing. Dr. Mix, Anthony Marinelli, and Jeff Lorber in a room full of Rhodes? Fastest hour and 15 minutes ever (and thank you, Dr. Mix, for not making it shorter).
The thing I was most surprised by is the extent to which I could truly tell the difference in sound between most of the instruments. I didn't expect it to be so noticeable. All gorgeous in their own ways. So much personality between them all!
Man, Ben Bove is a national treasure, I'm truly impressed by his knowledge, especially towards the end talking about the "E" model Rhodes, that's probably my favourite iteration of the Rhodes, such a creamy sound, but all the Rhodes in that living room are top notch, super wonderful. I can now graduate as a Rhodes scholar! 😄
Started watching the L.A. series last night. The fact that Anthony has given you praise through the series, taking you to all these great places to meeting great musicians, playing on some history enriched sexy keys, speaks volumes for the work you have put in and continue to. I can only imagine how you must feel. HUGE shout out to Anthony for being such a great and cool host and making your trip an amazing and memorable one !! Shout out to Ben for taking us into his Batcave !! Jeff Lober? Enough said 🙌🎹 Claudio, thank you for taking us on this crazy L.A. trip with you !! Inspired, Let's Go !! 🤙👊🙏
Thank you guys (yes, even Jeff) so much for this visit. It almost brought me to tears, mainly because my Mark II is sitting in storage because I don’t have enough space to keep it at home. But, seeing as how Anthony has proven that eating dinner at an actual table isn’t really all that necessary, I may have just been inspired to reconsider my decor. Enjoyed the info and stories very much, fellas. The monster chops were a nice extra.
20:06 I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Jeff to play that song. If you haven’t heard it, it’s called “Raindance” absolutely amazing song. The happiest I’ve ever been playing an instrument is after I learned to play the song by watching Jeff’s hands in various RUclips videos.
Claudio, huuuuuuuge thanks from me. As a keyboard fanatic, this vid was for me pure gold. When Ben started to talk about JZ my heart stopped for some seconds. You are so nice sharing all these diamonds with us.
Thank you so much for doing this!!!! I stupidly sold (what thanks to this video now know was) a Mark 1 many years ago in the early 90s. I regret it so much now. That was so cool to see all that history. What an honor to be the fly on the wall for this,.......and Friggin' Jeff Lorber!!! Wow.
I’ve had a Fender Rhodes piano in my basement for many years that belonged to my late brother who died in a fire in 1983. Amazingly it survived the fire. It also survived Hurricane Sandy when my basement flooded. I had it recovered back in tihe 90s by a musician named James “Chops” Jones. I believe it’s 88 keys. I see that some museums have these pianos and my plan is to donate it to The Newark Museum.
There is something about the way a Rhodes sounds that makes it like nothing else. I loved getting to hear all the subtle differences from one model to another and some of the amazing stories behind this great piano! Thanks for another great video!
Woooow, Doctor Mix, what an absolute treat this was. Great stories about what most certainly is one of the most beautiful instruments ever. And don’t forget the great playing showing the musicianship of all who were present at this interview. Thank you so much for this!
This is the one video that every keys player, every music student and every music lover simply has to see at least two times! Wow! I can't find words. You guys rock!!! The web is on fire! 🎉 Learning about music, arts and craftsmanship has arrived in a new dimension. Welcome to the new age, may many more videos like this come up in the near future!
Glad you didn't stop when it was becoming a deep dive :D I know it is probably not your most profitable type of content, but I love high quality long form like this.
I'm not usually one to watch videos longer than 10-15 min but this was an absolute treat the entire way through. Keep em coming! This was truly magical
C'mon guys, let's follow Anthony Marinelli, he's an amazing guy, as nice and cool to us as Claudio is! For you that don't have a clue, Claudio is our beloved - Dr. Mix - Monsieur Claudio Passavanti.
Glad I've found your channel Claudio, I've been restoring a '79 Rhodes Mark I and have been inspired by the sounds you've created. Binge watching your channel while working on my project. Thanks for the content you create! Peace and love from Canada :D
How did I miss this until today?! What a wonderful dive into the world of the Rhodes piano. As one doc to another, I'm someone who blew part of a student grant cheque on a second-hand Rhodes piano back in about 1984. It was a Mark 1 Stage piano, and cost me £275, I think, bought from a guy in North London somewhere. I had to spend another £75 on a sustain pedal (from Macari's in Charing Cross Road, I think). I was one happy bunny! I played the Rhodes through a Rogers valve hi-fi amp. I got a chorus pedal to play it through, and used to record my playing on a Marantz Superscope CD330 cassette recorder. Happy days! The Rhodes now lives with my son, the artist Mom Tudie, and he uses it in his music; to console myself on my loss (his gain) I now use a Yamaha YC73 for Rhodes (and other) sounds. But I miss the real thing! But it's still in action and giving pleasure, and is an ongoing blessing. Thanks to you for this wonderful dive into all things Rhodes, to Anthony for setting it up, and to Ben (and his unwitting clients!) for sharing his collection with us all. Marvellous! Best wishes to you all.
I have a 1972 B. Kehoe Fender Rhodes. It was being stored outside in a barn. I drove 80 miles to rescue it. Luckily no weather elements got to it. I already have a wurly 200a and now im complete. Both were found at garage sales. 😊
Thank you Claudio, Anthony and Ben. What a wonderful way to spend a rainy evening. Lovely to watch and hear everyone’s passion and enthusiasm for these fantastic pianos. So kind of Ben to share his work and wisdom. I’d never heard of him until now, but will definitely be checking out his work.

The sound of the keyboard at the beginning of the video reminded me of Gino Vannelli's "Powerful People" album. He hails from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I believe you might enjoy it.
Gino is criminally underappreciated. Brother to Brother is one of the most beautiful records ever recorded
