I was having a really stressful day getting ready for work with a ton of problems and I stopped to check my feed while eating a joyless meal. For some reason, perhaps because I have a bowl of lemons on my counter, I made the most excellent decision to watch this video. From the chill piano soundtrack to the perfectly matched yellow and white checked towel I was for a moment transported to a lovely place with soft hands creating smooth balls of dough destined for sugar baths and a sweet ending filled with a lemon custard the exact color of sunshine and unparalleled happiness. I will most likely never make these donuts, but the memory of thier delightful creation will always be a part of the filling in my 💛. Thank you

My daughter told me they were "stupid good", and that's coming from a woman that knows how to and loves to bake. Will definitely be keeping this recipe!
That's exactly the very much portuguese "bola de berlim" (in english "berlin ball"). It exists here since the 1900's and it's originally from... Germany, called "berliner" but they fill it with red jams. We fill it with custard cream and it's one of our portuguese favorites along with our extremely famous "pastel de nata" (in english Portuguese "Custard Tarts"). We have a lot of amazing pastry!

You just made my day. I haven't come across a dough like this that you can bake into donuts. You're lemon filling is pretty close to my lemon curd. I use 1 less egg yolk, 2 tbsp less of butter and 1/4 cup more of lemon juice. I have some beautiful lemons that need to be zested and juiced. Now I know what I'll be using most of them for. Hi Tammie, i just saw your question. There's no need to flour the parchment paper if you're baking it. I did flour mine because i have to pick it up and fry :)

For this recipe, I baked the donuts instead of frying them in oil. The outer crust seemed harder than your regular donuts though. Is that because of baking or is it because the dough wasn't kneaded well enough? Please advice.
Can you cook them in the oven too? I noticed in the video yours are in oil. But your recipe said the temperature to cook them too. Just making sure before I make these. Thank You in advance
I came for the filling, it didn't turn out well, and the egg was just hanging around, but after straining it, it looked better. Although, it was perhaps too strong. Anyways, after all the work, it turned out well

I've tried frying dough from a different recipe but I had a hard time keeping the oil at the suggested temp. Even while using a thermometer. Weird 🤷♀️ Anyhoo, let US bake and enjoy our goodies without the guilt... 😉
I've tried this recipe and the dough ends up far too wet and heavy. Either the volume of milk is too much or not enough flour. Something not right with the recipe weights. I ended up adding aboit half a cup of flour so dough was not wet!
