- Viltrox 13mm f 1.4 vs Fuji 14 mm f 2.8
I am comparing these 2 lenses due the close focal lens. I wanted a faster wide angle lens for low light but I already had the 14 mm and 2.8 is decent for low light but I wanted something faster but I will not use it a lot and didn’t wanted to spend a lot of money.
For landscape you don’t really need a fast lens because your sweet spot will be f 5.6 f 8.
The build quality is excellent -all metal the aperture ring works smooth and clicks nice on the aperture setting.
It is big, way bigger than the 14 mm and heavier - almost double the weight and for this reason I don’t find it too portable .
Color rendition it’s another element will check on our video.
As you can see my lens renders colors colder than the Fuji . With minimal editing you can get the colors rich and snappy .
From what I see from my testing the lens is sharp, color is good and the bokeh is pleasant for an wide angle lens.
The lens is sharp at 1.4 and improves by 2.8 . At F 5.6 and F 8 is reaching the full potential and after that the diffraction sets in .
Compared with 14 mm I can see the fuji has an edge on sharpness, micro contrast, color rendition and has character on how renders the scene, also has smaller size and weight.
The Viltrox comes out handy to blur out the background and has better low light capabilities and this are some solid points for some people but
For the low price and sharpness it is is a very solid contender and a great lens to have but the Fuji lens is better.

Nicely done, I think you're the first on YT to make this comparison. I came to the same conclusion after comparing the two lenses. Also did not care for the extra size and weight of the Viltrox.
Thank you ! Its hard to make lenses better than Fuji !
Just bought the 14mm today, for image quality and compactness. From what I've seen, this seems to be an underrated lens. I'll probably also go for the 16 or 18/1.4 also, for indoor shots.
Congrats on your new toy ! Also 16 and 18 are very good , you will be happy with either one if you decide to to go for it . The 14 its the lens I use the most on Fuji!
Many thanks for your comparison. I will stay with my 14mm.
After using the Viltrox for some time lately i found myself reaching for fuji . In some instances with low light levels like after the sunset when it is soft light the colors just get washed out and with 14mm are rich and full. .
I'll stay with the Fuji!!!!!!! ❤️ ❤️
I have my doubts about which one to buy, the Fuji 14mm or the Viltrox 13mm, I like the detail and contract to use it mostly indoors with the XT4 and XH2,
I switched from Canon to Fuji because of the weight in the backpack and the weight is very valued by me,
Those steps in brightness of the Viltrox f1.4 compared to the Fuji f2.8, can be compensated by raising the ISO???
If the weight iss important for you than Viltrox is out of wurstion because its heavier . Between the F1.4 and 2.8 are 2 stop difference and both of your cameras can handle pretty good the high ISOs if you have to crank it up. But with Viltrox almost 100% you will not use the 1.4 because is too shallow and is not the sharpest . If your primary use is photography i will say Fuji. For video i will ho with Viktrox because the extra weight it helps keeping your rig steady . Fuji lenses are awesome and exactly from same reasons as you i have the Fuji system but i kept my Canon too. When traveling i absolutely take the Fuji with me . I know the 14 is more expensive but its an excelent lens . I have both lenses and I am not biased .
Muchisimas gracias @@tonyroscaphotography
De nada, y siempre estoy aquí para ayudar a todos. Miami es latino😜
Have you used the Fuji on a 40mp sensor?
I have the H2.
Did you come to any conclusions on corners IQ? I'm finding it hard to find anything concrete on the XF14, Viltrox I already know what it looks like in the corners. If the Fuji has the Viltrox beat on the corners then Fuji has won imo. Just don't know what corner IQ is like on the XF14 and whether it is mushy rubbish or quite good. Thanks!
Its funny because i was thinking about the same thing and i will do a test between today or tomorrow to see the corners sharpness. I am going to shoot in a rainforest and need to pack light. I will let you know . Planning to test from wide open to F11 to see how they compare.
@@tonyroscaphotography Dustin Abbot did a fairly comprehensive review of the Viltrox 13, diffraction kicks in after f5.6. I got a good idea of corner IQ from that video too.
What is difficult to ascertain is just more info about the 14/2.8. I am not at all surprised to hear you comment on the warmer tones from the Fuji, and of course we can tell the difference in DoF between 1.4 and 2.8, and I can even see what you mean about the micro contrast on the 14/2.8, the colour graduation does seems smoother. I'm really now just wondering how good its corners are for 14mm. The distortion looks ok too. I'm wondering if it is a hidden gem, because a lot of wide angle lenses do crumble in the corner department. The new XF8/3.5 is of course a very different focal length, but the corners are just not quite there, and part of me feels all these wide angle lenses need to be decent in the corners, otherwise what's the point? I don't care so much about corners with my tele's optics because their primary use mainly falls into stuff like portraiture where I'm shooting shallow DoF and corners are oof anyway etc. But on a wider lens I kinda want a 'do-it-all', nice for some environmental portraiture, nice for some city/architecture/landscape, etc. Keep me posted! Thanks!
I took some pics this morning with both lenses and from 2.8 to 5.6 Fuji def had better corners. It holds more details and contrast . Viltrox kicks in by F5.6 . But if you want center sharpness and blurred background viltrox pics are more pleasant but the foreground and background elements need to be away from your center subject to render a soft blur . I like Viltrox lens but you either use it at F1.4 or F5.6-8. . I might end up taking both on my photo trip because i will take portraits too and 1.4 will be great in low light but for landscape Fuji is better.
@@tonyroscaphotography Thank you, it definitely feels like a close call between the two lenses!
how do i find the filter for this???please. and if knf concept has it
For Viltrox 13!mm lens the filter size 67 mm and for fuji14mm lens is 58 mm. You can find them in Adorama , B&H or Amazon has it for sure
@@tonyroscaphotography any link??
K&F Concept 67mm Variable ND Lens Filter ND2-ND400 (1-9 Stops) 18 Multi-Layer Coatings Adjustable Neutral Density Ultra Slim Lens Filter for Camera Lens ,,,can this work?
Its a very good filter ! Sorry I could not attach any links , but the one you pointed out its very nice ! i might get one too
@@tonyroscaphotography jst want to know it can fit
Thanks!
No problem!
@@tonyroscaphotography I have put both images in Davinci and I concluded that the difference lies only in contrast and white balance. If you lower the contrast on the viltrox and make it a bit cooler they are pretty much the same. Also the test should've been 2.8 vs 2.8. Viltrox does more vignetting at 1.4 aperture.
You have to see the images in camera raw , i dont know how the video editing software interprets the images , i have sometime issues with Premiere when i import images from PS and are both from Adobe but when i import the images sometime doesnt look right. And when uploaded to RUclips its another step . I still have both lenses and use them constantly for different purposes and when import the files in Bridge I can see the differences . I bought the Viltrox for the 1.4 aperture and its why i compare it at 1.4 because when you start closing down the lens few stops it gets better most of the time . I considerate the 1.4 and 2.8 on each lens is better to show what you really get from each one . Depending on what you want to use the lens for makes a big difference . Photo or video ?
@@tonyroscaphotography I use it for video only. I think they are really similar at 2.8 except the Viltrox is a lot heavier. Could be nice to have both, Viltrox for low light and fuji for general use.
i like the Viltrox for video and Fuji for pictures, the quality built of Viltrox its impressive and also for video i like the extra weight because for me it helps to keep the rig more stable when shooting handheld .
I’m looking for an excuse to buy the Viltrox - I like the f/1.4 for close up - BUT the Fuji is a damn good lens.
The choice its tiugh to make and depends on what you need the lens for. The fuji is great but the Viltrox is good too. I use the fuji for photos and Viltrox for videos or in low light.
I’m sticking with my 14mm, Viltrox is very impressive but is very clinical
Same here, I kept both . Viltrox works better for video in my case but for photos i do prefer Fuji. Fuji is a live affair 👍
I love my Fuji lenses. You didn’t mention the advantages of the Viltrox in low light…. Why is that? Surely that’s the reason to get the Viltrox?? Let’s in four times more light and is sharp when it’s wide open. I’m getting the Viltrox.
I have both lenses and is what i see using them side by side. I understand if you need the wider aperture you should get the Viltrox. It is a very good lens and you will be happy and you will love the build quality for sure.
Ambele lentile sunt ok dar un extra wide si 4stopuri de diagramă la Viltrox își spun cuvântul.Prefer Viltrox in acest caz.
I use both, and both are good lenses . Fuji are farmecul ei care il prefer in citeva situatii si Viltrox e mai buna in low light. M-ai am citeva lentile de la ei pt Fuji si sunt foarte bune si pretul e incredible low. Plus absolut pot fi folosite pt profesional work
@@tonyroscaphotography eu 99% folosesc 18_55mm fuji... este excelent obiectivul.
De acord, e o lentila excelenta , ce camera folosești?
Im in love with my Viltrox 75 and 27mm Pros. I have to give my 13mm Viltrox a chance.
I heard only great things about 75 . I will get one to try it out I am also curious how it stacks against Fuji 56mm 1.2
@@tonyroscaphotography I like the 75mm over the 56mm.
I really need to try it out because 56 its not that great,
total bs how much fuji pay you for your post editing i have both these lens there is no way the fuji is so better when processing the same the viltox is better
How much Viltrox pay you to make this comment ? I still have both lenses , still didnt changed my mind .
