Thanks for this honest "reality check" on how life is in the Philippines... There's just so much misinformation about the country being spread online... Mainly by people seeking attention for themselves...
Yes and the main reason I started a channel to post my experiences. Being so happy here it soon becomes easy to recognize morons pretending to be experts who have never been here.
Like the crime statistics….having recently bought a house in Tarlac,(English guy, pinoy wife)it’s been a burning question especially as we have four kids ….the kidnapping thing especially…you mentioned Chinese nationals mainly…they are targeted ?your explanation was great and give me comfort,Thankyou .

@Ex-Pensive_Expat of course, I love it, and my wife's family is there. I would like to retire there, but my wife has gotten a taste of the American money, i.e., working 😂. But who knows what the future holds.
Last year I spent 8 months motorcycle traveling 20,000 kilometers all around the Philippines. I 100% agree that taking your time, slow traveling, exploring the various cultures and environments here is the best thing you can do. Why rush to buy a house in Dumaguette because you saw a vlogger on youtube who lves there, when you have no idea how much better things can be in other areas. Personally, Dumaguette is the last place I would choose to live. The Philippines is a safe and friendly place that has so much to offer and so much variety. I had friends here ask me if I got bored traveling because it is the "same everywhere" in the Philippines and they could not be more wrong. I have traveled on 5 continents and chose the Philippines as my place of retirement because it has so much variety and I will never run out of places to explore. I'm starting another motorcycle loop around the Philippines soon.
Let me know when you're in the area. I would love to meet and maybe do an interview. I think many people could very much benefit hearing that feed back from someone who has experienced it first hand. Far better than hearing it only from me!
Dude I did the same thing. I was there for almost a year. I went to 10 islands, 50 or 60 so places lost count. In the end the Philippines is not for me. I have a Plan to ferry and ride Borneo, Bruni, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. unfortunately I got injured and had to go back to America for surgery. I still have my "big" Bike and some stuff stored in angles city, I like Clark Airport the best. I have used Manila (terrible) Cebu (bad) Clark (best) What did you ride? Did you rent or buy?
@@solointhephilippines I own a Honda CB500X that I ride here in the Philippines. I had the Africa Twin back in the US but you don't need a bike that big here and 500cc's is plenty for the Philippines.

Thankyou for your great video’s & information on the Philippines, I live in the Philippines ( Davao-Tagum) for about 1 year & 8 months ( best life changing) I’m retired military ( 25 the years & 3 Deployment’ s) I love the people & culture of the Philippines!!! But I remember myself that I’m a guess in
I was in Manila (Ortigas) a week or so ago, and I walked everywhere I could. I didn't see any crime, not even a raised voice in anger. That was my 4th time there and I love the place and the people.
@Ex-Pensive_Expat Yes, for sure, it's best for those ones to stay where they are, I can't imagine how they would cope seeing so many polite people with smiling faces going about their business.
What I heard from you was not to take anyone else's experience there as gospel. That you need to vacation there first and slow travel so that you experience the different flavors of the islands and find a place that feels comfortable to you. That if you expect to live a western lifestyle in the Phillipines, you are in for a cultural adjustment. That if you seek good, you will find good. That is you are a miserable person, you are probably gonna be miserable there also. Very, very good advice!
It is not about being a "miserable person" it is about the type of lifestyle and happiness you want from it to live. We all have different ideas of what happiness is. Just because someone may enjoy living in Rome or kenya africa or New Yoek City or the Province of the Philippines or any where else in the wold does not make it wrong or them a "miserable person"
Great advice! I’ve been looking at traveling quickly through a lot of different southeast Asian countries. Then going back and slow traveling the key places that I enjoyed. That’s been my plan since day one of my discovery of traveling Southeast Asia through RUclipsrs. I’m taking my time putting together a game plan and I’m going to travel solo to several different Asian countries with a lot of concentration on Thailand and the Philippines. Maybe even Vietnam for some slow travel along with Malaysia. Eventually, I’m going to have to pick a place within the next few years, but I’m going to use the youth of my retirement , speed traveling and slow traveling. Ultimate goal is to find a place that I want to settle down near Good medical and hopefully good beaches and maybe even have my own place up in the mountains . So I can travel between the heat of the low lying places and the coolness of the higher altitude places.
Great video, it's funny, when I first met my Filipina girlfriend online, I wasn't looking for any particular nationality, it just happened that way, and my friends and family told me that she is a scammer, she will steal my passport, and her family will steal my passport, I will be subject to all sorts of crime, terrorist attacks in the airport etc, these people never even watched RUclips videos about Philippines , let alone been there, it was hilarious, here we are still together 16 months later. First time i went last August 2023, I remember thinking after a few days, this really ain't all that different to the UK really, i was expecting it to be much more different but not really to be honest. I enjoyed the scenery in your video, making me look forward to getting back there is 39 days time! yay!
Another great video, open mindedness rather than being judgemental, and with that the courage to be proven wrong, too many people want to be right even when the truth and evidence comes from somebody else's mouth, often not based in facts nor representing a majority of events, keep proving the stigmatisation wrong!!, while presenting your own verified experience and truth 😊
When you speak you have the same way of talking as Regular Guy, haha. Same speed, rhythm and musicality. Different content but in terms of how it sounds it's the same to my ears. And thanks for the common sense in the video.
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat yeah it genuinly sounds the same. If you compare you can hear the resemblences. I heard it the first time but I never mentioned it because Regular Guy is a bit controversial and I don't want to offend anyone. But it sounds good and unique. He's from Canada and you're from the US so it a coinsidence that you have the same way of using speaking voice.
I can never get over looking at the power lines. I have a few photos in Cebu city where vines are wrapped up so much around them I am surprised they still work. I have not seen any oxen as of yet. I figure the heat and humidity is not as bad on the Island of Luzon as it is in Cebu. I did see and have the photo of a Filipino who has blue hair. I thought it was wild seeing that there.
@COYO-T What most people are calling oxen, are what we call Water Buffalo and the Filipinos call Caribawl. I intentionally spelled that it the way they pronounce it.
So true and yes I have been there number of times I finally set roots a small place in ozamis home is being built as I send this message but the province is the best in Philippines stay away from the big cities and people will enjoy the Philippines alot more
We live in "The Province" as well, but in Negros Oriental, almost directly east of Bacolod on the east coast and about 3 hours drive north of Dumaguete. I've never liked cities, still don't. I love living where we are. And as you say, I can just about guarantee yours and my experiences whilst somewhat similar in some respects, will have some differences as well. People seem to love to talk in absolutes when it comes to very subjective experiences. I've never understood it.
Some people talk in absolutes because thats all they can wrap their heads around. They can't understand there could be another way and that another opinion can also be valid
my brothers and sisters migrated abroad in canada, malaysia and the US and only me stay here in Phillipines... they have better economic life than me of course but they said I have happier a life... ♥️🇵🇭

Thank you for your insights. I look forward to your shared experience and knowledge. Keep up the smart and easy going videos. 👏🏻👏🏻
You're welcome my friend. Nice to see you again here and thanks again for watching
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾love it, very pointed. One should do the needed research before putting one's mouth in gear. Interesting ride
Thank you my friend!! Nice to see you again.
Thank you very much for your efforts .
I’m American, have lived in the PI in the late 90’s .
My wife of 15 years was Filipina . She passed ♥️
Just a note:
The reason a lot of Filipina’s have brown hair is because it is very, very popular to dye it that color .
It is very popular also (brown) , in Laos, and somewhat, but less, in Thailand .
Thanks again for your positive views !
Thank you for the comment my friend. Where do you live now? I didn't know that about the hair actually
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Live in the US now . But would like to finish out in Asia somewhere . Just trying to get through some medical tests. Don’t want to go and die in 6 months, Ha .

I enjoy seeing your success, in matters of the heart, and wallet .👍🏼
Thank you.
Great perspective!
Glad you think so!
Thanks Daryl keeping things in perspective as usual :-)
Thank you too Pat. It's always nice to see your comments my friend
Spot on mate
Good info.
Glad you think so!
good topic and good insights, those points will resonate with a lot of people
Thank you my friend!!
Well said. great viewpoint as always!
Thank you Tim! Thanks for you support
Another great video, I'm always looking to learn more about the Philippines.
And your videos are straightforward and to point without a lot of fluff.
I'm looking forward to my retirement and traveling to the Philippines.
As to your suggestions, I'm not going to get in a hurry to settle in one place, but take my time and see how I like different things and the people in the area.
The only thing that I know for sure is that I won't be in any of the cities.
I'm a country boy 100%.
I am looking forward to the next video.
The country people are super sweet when they get to know you. A bit shy at first
Hello Darrell, I love the people who have never been somewhere else and they are an expert about anywhere that you want to travel.
They're ridiculous. I think super low self esteem and maybe think people will admire their comment as if an they're an expert. Only thing that makes sense to me
Well done my friend. Hope to see you next year.
I hope so too! Thank you!!
Opening the video with a shot of rural rush hour was great.
Glad you liked it my friend. I try to make each video different than any other
Good take.
Thank you!
Your narration is engaging, and with a smooth voice that is easy to listen to.
Wow. Thank you my friend
WOW🎉 I loved this video. Darell talks about everything l like or want to know. He is opening this Country with simple every day language and always by being friendly. Since l have plans to go to the Philippines l am happy you are there as a great resource to . Great video.😊🙂
Thank you Linda!! Let me know how I can help
In South Carolina on the coast we have the same humidity and temperatures as Samar did when I visited in February.
Where is Samar were you? I've been there twice and plan to go again. Yes the weather isn't Always worse than everywhere in America
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I stayed with a couple in Margarita-Samar just south east of Calbayog City.
I stayed in Calbayog City for a couple days
Very good videos. Thanks. ❤❤❤
Thank you my friend!!
Dude, you and I would so get along! Haha! I've been here a year now and my gosh the quality of my life is infinitely better without all the material things I was sold on having to have in the U.S. Instead I have a small place, a few amenities, a great relationship, and am now free to pursue video and graphics like I have always wanted. Just started my own channel to do much the same as you... share my experiences and personal transformation. Not as an "expert" but as a noob discovering what this is all about... and I wouldn't have it any other way. Keep on keepin' on brother!
I'n your newest subscriber. What area are you in. Maybe we can collaborate on a video or two
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Sounds great! We are just getting things going here as far as the channel, but growing little by little and having fun at the same time. I'm in Valencia. You were just in the area not long ago it seems. :)
@@OneMansParadise Too bad we didn't cross paths at then. I'll be back though
Another great video brother. Looking forward to the next one. Safe journey
Thanks! You too!
Great video, well presented, informative and narrated beautifully with Philippine scenery as you spoke. Well done you, hope you are well.
Thank you my friend. Always nice to see you here. I'm good and hoping you are too.
Awesome Video as Usual 💪👍👍👍👍✌️🙌👌🙏
Thank you so much 😀
I like to see the scenery and hope you will put out more content like this. Also, try to down sell that area as it is my preferred place and too many expats there will ruin it.
Which place? the Philippines or my local area in Porac / Baguio?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Baguio and surrounding.
Not to many yet. Most go to Southern Philips. Cebu Dumaguete etc
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Yeah, but maybe it is because they don't know any better.
Mostly what I heard about when I was watching before I came
That was a nice style video.....like to see the scenery like that too.
Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Planning to retire in the Philippines too.
It's worked well for me
Great commentary man. Wishing you the best
Much appreciated!
Hey you’re a rock star to me! Thanks once again for the great info! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You're welcome my friend!!
I always do research and give exact information. I didn't understand why it said mainly Chinese for example but I gave the complete PNP comment on the subject. It didn't say they are targeted so I can't say. Congratulations on the house purchase
I’d like to see a video of you walking around your property showing your garden and any updates you have done.
I will do that soon. I'm close to having a few projects finished first to give a proper update
Very well said my friend. I’ve been sweating so much and no need to excercise😁 you take care catch you soon
There are a lot of great places to ride here lol
U just got my subscription! Because ur shoot straight from the hip and an excellent shot! Nice to hear the truth. I've been there twice both times, searching for my soulmate! Me, I've lived in dry heat, smelting in Arizona. When monsoons around humidity climbs!
Please make more videos, the truth channel, right on Bud! O hell, I don't like California, living next to it!
Thank you so much for the comments and compliments . You made my day. I am already working on the next video
@Ex-Pensive_Expat ,Great, can't wait!
@@bradleymiller7375 Do you have a suggestion for content or idea to cover?
You make a lot of sense my friend
Thank you for watching. Just my point of view from my personal experiences
I remember before my first trip there. The misinformation was crazy. And yes, the weather is different from one area to another. I have been in Cebu and Butuan City in Mindanao. I married a Bisaya Filipina from Butuan City she is here with me in the Metro Detroit area. Keep posting LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
That's awesome. Do you guys plan on coming back some day?
@Ex-Pensive_Expat of course, I love it, and my wife's family is there. I would like to retire there, but my wife has gotten a taste of the American money, i.e., working 😂. But who knows what the future holds.
Haha... That happens..
Great video, my friend... words of wisdom!
Glad you think so!
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat I will definitely be back in the area at some point on my journey and will get in touch.
Awesome
Agreed. I have been able to enjoy the Philippines for 30 years and able to observe and compare much.
Thank you for the comment. I'll bet you've seen lot of changes over the years
1st time watching and listening , and completely enjoyed 100% everything you spoke about so eloquently along the way with the scenery, You are spot on. even though I still live in socal, I have visited Ph every year for 10 years so I have just a small taste of real life there. Appreciate your video and knowledge, thank you it was really refreshing over some of the other guys videos . I seen them all.. Prob only reason I saw this was I did watch you on Pauls vid a while back. Take care.

I was in Manila (Ortigas) a week or so ago, and I walked everywhere I could. I didn't see any crime, not even a raised voice in anger. That was my 4th time there and I love the place and the people.
That's awesome. Thank you for sharing. It's helpful for others to see comments like this when they have never been here.
@Ex-Pensive_Expat Yes, for sure, it's best for those ones to stay where they are, I can't imagine how they would cope seeing so many polite people with smiling faces going about their business.
Indeed
What I heard from you was not to take anyone else's experience there as gospel. That you need to vacation there first and slow travel so that you experience the different flavors of the islands and find a place that feels comfortable to you. That if you expect to live a western lifestyle in the Phillipines, you are in for a cultural adjustment. That if you seek good, you will find good. That is you are a miserable person, you are probably gonna be miserable there also. Very, very good advice!
Yes! Pretty much. Before you get into long term commitments make sure you love the area.
So so true always enjoy the truth you share with us all ignore the ignorant no does, no travel armchair warriors who sit in there basements
Their children's basement
Nice. a real perspective of the Philippines. I love your content. Thanks and Cya soon!😉☠🏴☠
Yes. Lets get together when you're in the area
very real view. Cool . Ox carts still in work.
Yes they are. Very common here as famers use them daily
I'll have a good video for you probably in the next 24 hours
Your right about that go to Baguio Weather is different there.i get cold in little Baguio in the rain it's in a video name of video Tropical storm.
I enjoyed the scenery in your video, making me look forward to getting back there is 39 days time! yay!
Where will you land? Where are you coming from?
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Landing in Manila, coming from the UK via Saudi Arabia.
Thank you!! I only talk from my own experiences. Never just from what I've heard someone say
@@Ex-Pensive_Expat yes , hearsay often becomes a truth for the uneducated...
Exactly. Unfortunately some will believe the wrong information or think because it's that way in one area it's that way everywhere

When you speak you have the same way of talking as Regular Guy, haha. Same speed, rhythm and musicality. Different content but in terms of how it sounds it's the same to my ears. And thanks for the common sense in the video.
Thank you my friend. Sorta like regular guy. Nice!
Minus the creeping on schoolgirls.

@@Ex-Pensive_Expat Just outside Bauang town, Sea view, can see the lights of Baguio at night.
Oh very nice. Sounds awesome. I think I need to experience that. Maybe I will pass through for the night just to see that Hahaha...
I've actually had to duck under them a few times just walking down the sidewalk
I think you may be correct. Slightly cooler here in Luzon
@COYO-T What most people are calling oxen, are what we call Water Buffalo and the Filipinos call Caribawl. I intentionally spelled that it the way they pronounce it.
@@JohnSmith-ti2kp I know they were not cows so called him the only other thing I could think of.
@@COYO-T That's fine, just adding my information for anyone interested.
So true and yes I have been there number of times I finally set roots a small place in ozamis home is being built as I send this message but the province is the best in Philippines stay away from the big cities and people will enjoy the Philippines alot more
Yes. I think people find it hard to settle in the province to begin with
What you say is wisdom...
Thank you very much!!
