Mike, great review. You covered many practical concerns and scenarios I hadn’t thought about. Makes taking Ms Precious to the field much less a problem.
Your exuberance and pure joy in these videos makes it so fun to watch. Keep on hamming harder buddy.
73, Mike (KK7LL)
Not a bad cage Mike, maybe you can suggest to Peovi that they modify the radius of the handle corners to better fot the bag. Sound like a minor design mod. Finally that was very cool of Jason to hook you up. 🤘😎👍 Now go get it out in the field. L8r...
Good idea. They could be a little smaller. I don't think they had fitting it in the bag in mind when they made it. And yes, Jason is good people for sure.
Very cool! I just purchased the 705, so I decided to buy the Peovi cage, it now has a plastic knob cover and a back cage (for an additional fee of course). I purchased directly from the Peovi website.
Finally watched this. Love your comment on the destructions. Agree a slight mod of those upper corners of the side pieces would help. I am reminded of a mantra from grad school prof. though. "If it works, don't fix it!" Stuffing that bag like a T'giving turkey answered my only question. Well done!
I don't think I'd change a thing other than maybe something really small that could be added to it to protect the back corners.
I’ve been looking for this exact review- will it fit in the bag?! Yes!!!! Perfect
Thanks for showing that the radio will still work in the back pack with the Peovi cage fitted!
May have to get a cage now!
And yes I like this sort of crap. Please keep it up!!!
Just barely but we got it to fit! Thanks for watching my crap lol! 73
🤣🤣 Mike, you made me laugh so much. You're like a kid at Christmas who has got the toy they always wanted. Awesome. So funny
Haha, thanks for watching. I had a lot of fun making this video. I really like the cage too if that wasn't evident enough lol!
Loctite is your friend. Thanks for the vid
Ah, yes. I have some of that. I should use it! Thanks for reminding me.
Nice job Mike
Always dig the obscure movie one-liners!
Haha you caught that!
Peovi does offer a full wrap around addition to this cage. But the design of the wrap around requires the cage shown here. The kits are sold separately. A full package kit is not offered.
Bought this cage before the radio even arrived. I've had it for about a year now and it works well. I like the other cages, but they don't have the carrying handel this one does. However, this one does not encase the entire radio like others. The side panels do protect the front of the radio as well as the knobs.
Yeah that's the only thing i'm hoping they can develop is some small thing to add on to protect the back corners. Fantastic quality otherwise though.
Will this cage work with the windcamp RC-1 attached to the ic-705?
Are there any updates of how the radio in the cage is fitting in the bag? Did the bag stretch?
It stretched out a little bit but it's fine. I've not had any issues.
I wish I bought rails for my FT-891 sooner. I was adjusting my antenna with the coax attached and it ended up pulling down the radio from a table scuffing up the frequency and volume knobs. -_- I already ordered replacements from Yaesu and I have the rails installed.
Oh no! I'll bet it was all slow motion like nooooooooooo too. What a bummer. Hopefully that was all that happened. I really need to get something for my 891 too. I did drop it but it was on snow and ice. Fortunately nothing bad happened.
@@hamradiotube yea man it really sucked and that was a few days after getting the radio. I was bummed out about it, but fortunately everything is working. The rails I got were from Portable Zero. It's a little pricey but the quality is GREAT. I bought the straight rails due to spacing in my bag
Hey Mike that sounds like a win-win for you. That protects your radio and you have an out of your bag and then it also fits that’s fantastic. I think Jason need to have a six pack next time you see him. I’m glad that you’re excited about the accessory that’s fantastic for you. I have a feeling you may be testing it out over the weekend and if you are I wanna look for you see if I can work you. Have a great week and I enjoyed your video.

Yeah Jason is a pretty good guy for sure. I think I'll def be testing it out over the weekend and the days to come. It's not leaving that radio that's for sure.
It may save the cosmetic outside parts from damage but the shock of a drop will still damage the inside. If they made a type of soft plastic to cover it with that would absorb the shock of a drop. Like those high speed phone cases.
Not sure what's inside the radio that would be damaged from a drop. I'm not about to take it apart, but its most likely circuits that are screwed to the metal chassis inside. I would doubt a drop would do much damage to the innards of the radio myself. Much like how I'm not worried about the inside of my cell phone getting damaged from a drop, but the outside.
How many surface mount components did you just knock loose banging it on the bench?
Zero
I have one... they also have a back cage, but that costs an additional $150!
I’ll stick with the best HF portable HF, G90! Good to go backwoods out of the box! Thanks Mike, K7DFL
Lol, thats a good one haha! I like my G90 but not nearly as much as the 705. 73
need to recommend they angle the front guards inward at the "top" just enough to protect the top buttons, should fit "perfect"
I don't understand your comment. It does protect the buttons. Bending the rails inwards would make it cramped and awkward to operate.
@@hamradiotube so they dont protrude outward (towards the user) quite as far at the top...the top two knobs arent as large as the vfo and the guards, if they swept inward (away from the user), it would allow it to fit in the backpack and still protect the radio.
Judging from your reaction, I think you like it. 😁
What gave it away lol!
Only thing it is missing is a tilt stand on the bottom to lift it up a bit to see the screen....that is without the tri-pod....bevel nice but not fully stable...but nice...Fred VE3FAL
It tilts on its own. We don't need no stinking tilt stand.
remember you should treat your radio like your wife. don't throw it 🤣 haha. nice review 👍. 73’s DL3PWR
Ahh, but I’m single.
@@hamradiotube haha that explained... maybe you need one.... that will calm you down a bit. I'm joking.👍
@@jochemssse lol, yes. I know.
That was gonna be my question. Can you angle it back.
Like a champ you can!
Awesome Mike, thanks....Fred VE3FAL

super cool but i shake my fist at the price of the IC-705
Nah, it's worth every penny. I absolutely love it.
I will Officially never loan you a radio lol.
Remove the side handles when mounted in the bag
Then they wouldn’t be on when I want to take the radio out of the bag. I’m good with leaving them on.
You can put the entire assembly into a large Maxpedition bottle carrier for more water resistance.
Good to know. 73
Is it the 12” by 5” bag?
@@gordonmurphy4321 yes.
what nonsense to enlarge a small portable radio so that it becomes completely unwieldy. the nonsense doesn't have any use either.
Glad you liked the video.
I've been watching you on Ham Alert what's up with the cw?
Just practicing.
