    Great video! I am not always the brightest bulb, but the light went off when you mentioned not being able to see the radio in the bag. Now I know where the phone apps that control the radio and show the VFO are handy and nifty. I can't wait to try a pedestrian mobile with that bag while using my cell phone to control the radio that is zipped up into the bag. Maybe a super antenna on the side with the counterpoise dragging???

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  2 года назад +4

      OMG, you are a genius!!! I totally didn't even think about that and that app is sitting on my phone doing literally nothing!! I think you're on to something. Your comment is getting pinned so the whole world can have the same Aha moment you did.

    I like that you did a field review, especially after you've actually spent a few days with it. IMHO that makes your review more valuable than those out of the box bench reviews. The versatility is nice and I liked seeing the DenCo back in action as well. 73

      I second that emotion! Too many gear reviews are static. This one, seeing it in action, that makes a difference. I wonder if a Xiegu 5105 would fit in it?

    Hey for all of you looking to buy this backpack for the IC-705. The answer is YES. My goal is to never take it out of the bag as there is a lot of integration with power (bionenno 10ah, portable CW keyer, mic). Everything is routable through Velcro slits. The real game changer for me is purchasing an AH-705 antenna tuner and mounting it right on the backpack! This backpack has a hardboard on the left hand side that I was able to mount to. The real benefit is the so-239 output of the tuner then points straight up and mates perfectly with a comet toy box antenna (HFJ-350M). I made several park to park POTA contacts with it on 20 meters with a 35 foot counterpoise wound on a flyreel. Here is the result: ruclips.net/user/shortsktdeKScfNoE 73

      It's not been too bad lately. Lower 90's and less humidity finally. Plus the trees keep you in the shade so that's a bonus. Bring a lot of water. I carry a 1/2 gallon water bottle and don't have much left when I get back. Course I'm hiking up to 6 miles and I sweat like a fat hog!

    I got one, I initially liked it, but I like the cages for the 705 too much, not having much room for other things, and being 6'6" tall ... I'll be selling it and a Diamond K412S mount on QRZ real soon. Again, a good product, if all you are really doing is carrying a minimum load and are of a "normal" size, it's a good product.
    Don't worry about having a Yaesu HT on the iCOM pack, at least it isn't a Baofeng. :D

    Mike, as for the microphone cable, you don’t have to go out the top like you did. You pick either side and you also find Velcro access out so if you want the microphone on the right or left, the coiled portion of the cable will be on the outside, perfect. The other thing I wanted to say is the my peovi cage has been in my pack for months, was snug fitting at first and that has worked itself out.

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  2 года назад

      Yeah I know about the velcro on the other side, I just like it on the left for some reason. No big deal. Good to know the Peovi fits. I imagine that had to stretch a bit over time.

    I tried wearing my HT up there but got poked in the eye way too many times. I keep my HT on the belt at all times and will extend the accessory mic if I'm feeling extra tactical (usually in the winter when wearing heavier coats).

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  2 года назад

      Yeah the VX-7R has a clip that allows it to kind of hang freely so it just sits straight up no matter the situation. If it were a rigid clip an ht would be annoying for sure.

Prob enough cushion to make it ok.

In my first aid bag (quick clot, Israeli bandage, chest seal, tourniquet, etc.) I have my Glock 21 and three extra mags. Damn thing is too heavy to carry around in a holster (I tilt to the right!) but it fits nicely in the aid bag. I don't worry too much about the four-legged critters in the woods, but I've run into some two-legged ones where I felt a lot safer knowing I had my Sig P320 X-carry in my appendix holster. I just had an article come out in Concealed Carry Magazine on Ham Radio, and why if you're a concealed carrier it's a good idea to get a license.
