You know, why not? Game design by comitee. I'd give that a shot. Throw together a few hundred people with ideas and plans. Smack together the best ideas. Build it using a hundred people across the world and ship it to steam. If you get a good director in charge of it that could work. I hereby name it Mega-development. Get on it, internets.

One thing I consider very important to Elder Scrolls 6 is that each of the major cities has a distinct identity. By distinct identity I mean by the architecture, color palette, economy, and quests. One problem with Skyrim was with the exception of Markarth the cities did not feel as unique from one another as compared to Oblivion. Also it would be nice if each city had different ambient background music.

I wished Falkreath, Dawnstar and Morthal had a more unique look, like the other cities. Winterhold would be ok, since it sucked in the sea. But all these cities are very ancient and it's weird that they're just some wooden houses.

    • @Joshcoshbagosh

what are you talking about? Most of the cities felt exactly the same in Oblivion. Skyrim was the one with the unique cities imo. All of the major cities in Skyrim had unique architecture and their own unique things going on. Markarth with its dwemer architecture and conspiracies. Riften being a fishing town with heavy Thieves Guild presence, etc. How are the cities not unique? I have no idea why people think Oblivion did it better

Yea most of skyrims cut content was due to the underpowered consoles at the time, but this game is looking like it might be next gen or cross gen since it will still be a couple of years before it releases. They definitly need to up their story part though if they want to keep up with other RPG's, and they have a lot to live up to since there are a lot of people nostalgiac for Daggerfall.
Also we never have gotten a proper game of thrones game, so bethesda could fill that need for medivieal politics

    • @Joshcoshbagosh
      @Joshcoshbagosh 4 года назад +1

The civil war wasn't shallow at all. The "story" can be see throughout the entirety of the province. The actual quest line is just acting out the war, but the real meat of the conflict can be see everywhere In skyrim. Its called worldbuilding. It added a very interesting layer of political strife to the realm. People still argue to this day which side was right, so i'd say it did its job well enough for a 2011 game. Besides, its not as if Bethesda ever had super "deep" questlines...

Hey everyone! *As stated at the very start of the video, this is just about what High Rock could be like. Yes, there is a good chance it's Hammerfell too* . What do you think the sixth Elder Scrolls game will be like, if it's based in High Rock? I think it'd be really cool to have some Red Wedding type stuff happen in game, to make it so your choices have *real* consequences. Back this up with a system where we can track the interests, weaknesses, whereabouts, and plans of the characters in High Rock, and we can have a meta-level where you strategise and the actual play-level where you steal/assasinate/converse/bribe/blackmail people. Making it so that it's just as fun to have those alternate play styles (as it is an ES game, you can't *stop* people murdering everyone). What do you think?

I'm glad you used the Game of Thrones example, because that would be exactly who I'd like to see them do ES6. Here is what I picture. Like you said, the whole chess game thing, but with 6 players instead of 2. But include the multiplayer from Fallout 76, so now you have a bunch of players from Daggerfall fighting against Shornhelm. Your idea for a bunch of guilds sounds amazing. It would be nice to return to a more roleplay focused Elder Scrolls game, seeing as recent games slowly removed major roleplay features like reputation and meaningful decisions. Orsinium, Wayrest and the Reach need to be treated as sort of hostile areas. The corsairs could house a sort of pirate focused thieves guild, but anyone else would and should treat it as bandit infested land. Orsinium should be hard to enter, but if you earn the trust of the orcs that should unlock a quest to help them establish themselves as a nation, or to resurrect Trinimac. The Reach should be another bandit land, unless you side with the Forsworn.

I’m really excited about a system that if you do something or kill someone in a city then it effects that community harshly or profitably. In Skyrim it always felt you could kill someone, leave the city for a few days, then return and there are no consequences.

I'm worried that Bethesda won't make it as complex as it needs to be, whether it's High Rick or not. I get kinda disappointed when I read the lore from previous games and then look at Skyrim, like... it's just snowy Cyrodiil, for the most part. I really hope the Bretons get to keep their interesting culture. I very much do not want to see slightly magical Cyrodiil. I want High Rock. Same goes for Hammerfell, if the game takes place there.

    • @HelloFutureMe

They do a lot of simplification of the lore for the games, and while I really hope they don't, I know they will, to some extent. I just hope they don't simplify certain parts of the lore I really love.

    • @TheMetastasia
      @TheMetastasia 6 лет назад +2

Why can´t a High rock centered game not include a Dwemer Story line? The Dwemer had their cities like all over Tamriel (except Summerset Islands maybe). I also hope for a return of the dwemer (with Kagrenac as their leader?) possible as some theories suggest that they didn´t just vanished but entered a new dimension.
Only possible scenario that would make sense two have more than one Region would be a War Centered Story with the Dominion fighting another country.

In Skyrim the companions were a new join-able faction that embodied the philosophy of the province, glory honor and mead.If tes 6 was in highrock ( not convinced yet :P ) then we should get another new guild of political Saboteurs, the player character could used their relatively unknown status as a tool to play the different houses against one another, framing innocents and working for the highest bidder. This might be a bit too similar to the thieves guild but done right the use of espionage and sabotage could help this hypothetical guild and with it tes 6 stand out from the crowd.

There is a quote from Todd Howard that their dreams for the next elder scrolls game where just too big for a modern generation of hardware. Highrock is doable on modern hardware, but! High rock, and hammerfell, and potentially more, is just to big for modern hardware. I think the are throwing us off and we will get more than one province.

alex B. Quality over massive size would be better, tho. Bethsoft has a nasty habit of creating massive worlds with relatively little to do, its why Preston is a nag in Fallout 4, to keep the player occupied and distracted by how empty the world actually is.

I significantly doubt that any of the really great ideas you have will be utilized with any depth. I don't want to crap all over anyone's excitement, but if the last two installments in Bethesda's lineup are anything to go by, coupled with Howard's philosophy on merging superfluous features and simplifying design, I can't imagine the design direction changing course so drastically, and in a way that would require an expansion of features (like you would have to do with speechcraft for the espionage/politics) rather than a continued streamlining of them.
I like all of your ideas, but again-- nothing in the last fifteen years of Bethesda's approach suggests that they're looking to make things more expansive (aside from sheer size), or to have stories with branching, affective threads that interweave a dynamic story. Especially given Bethesda's shift in attitude toward game critics, how Todd Howard and the lead design team respond to criticism, and the studio's increasing reliance on modders to patch out bugs, provide missing content, and innovate new features; I'm not particularly hopeful about the state the next Elder Scrolls will release in.
I mean, it's been almost seven years since Skyrim, and each port is released with the same bugs as the game had on launch, despite community mods existing for nearly as long which fix them. The fact that Bethesda doesn't care about the launch quality of it's games, even upon multiple re-releases suggests it's completely on board Todd Howard's design philosophy, most evidenced in an interview in which he describes it as:
"For me, I'll hear a lot of players say what should be added. Oh, you should bring back throwable weapons, and add spears, or expand on this system. But our approach is more to look at what we have and say 'Okay, what does it not need?' and from there, focusing in on merging features that are superfluous for an experience that means more to the player."
Which ends on a cheery note about player agency and impact, but that design ethos is really contradictory to the sentiment when you unpack it, since it looks at features which haven't been optimized or employed effectively, and rather than asking how they can be tweaked or expanded to provide greater diversity of experience, it asks for how those lackluster features can be liquidated into assemblies of other non-premium systems to make something that's passable and inoffensive.
Howard's lead seems to aim at "what can be done to make things less effort intensive", which is fine for certain game features and mechanics, but as an overriding principle of design, it reduces to looking for ways in which the game can be less challenging, or frustrating, and as a consequence-- less rewarding and engaging.
I really wish you were on their design team.

    • @HelloFutureMe
      @HelloFutureMe  6 лет назад

Interesting little tidbit: the size of the provinces in the lore is *vastly* different to how they are portrayed in game (eg. Whiterun has "10,000" citizens). So, while in the lore Skyrim may be bigger than High Rock, the designers could make High Rock way bigger in-game and it would still be within the lore, as their size in game doesn't really correspond to size in lore.

All the cities for instance just felt like walled villages so the whole epic feeling the game wanted to provide was entirely undermined.

The Breton Prowess in magic will hopefully make being a mage more useful as a build
High Rock has the potential to be the most impressive Elder Scrolls game ever made, RPG and Story wise, The kingdoms could be on the verge of war and the nation's fate hanging in the balance, the Orcs could play a part in good or bad, Kingdom vying for power and a diplomatic system that you could play a part in, diplomacy or otherwise.
The Celtic Themes in High Rock is very much traditional fantasy, with BGS' special touch I wonder how will they make it feel alot more than a traditional fantasy and I hope Dragons return
but then there's the talks of Hammerfall
The thing with the Dragon unbindinf, Gives me Ragnorok Vibes
    Also....DEATH TO THE THALMOR!!!

People keep comparing Bretons to Britons (British). Bretons in the Elder Scrolls game are like Bretonnia from the Total War franchise - they're name comes from Brittany, France who speak the Breton language, and these fictional races are more French influenced than British.
Sure, the South of England is heavily French influenced too over the centuries - but South England isn't really representative of the rest of Britain (England, Scotland, Wales). Heck, South England isn't even indicitive of England as a whole since North England is much more Norse and Celtic influenced. Yorkshire (a county in north-east England) even shares a lot of dialect with other Norse countries.

EndoScorpion Very true, also, England was the most centralised state in Medieval Europe which allowed it to dominate with a population estimated to be 10-20 million compared to the decentralised, highly feudal state of France who had a population of 40 million. It was England's relatively high centralisation that led to its domination of Europe (I say as a Great Power) and France during the Hundreds' Year War. So, a decentralised feudal state reflects France much more than England.

deamongimli I can't tell if that's supposed to be a joke or not. I'm leaning toward it being a joke, as it's basically Skyrim 2.0. My idea for the start is inspired somewhat by Kingdom Come, or more specifically the second part of the tutorial.
You start off in a prison cell. Eventually the guards come and let you out. You'll learn that the castle is besieged and that if you and the other prisoners help defending the castle you will be pardoned.
There are several ways to complete the tutorial quest. You can help defend the castle, but there is another prisoner who knows of a secret way out, and he wants to sneak away during the chaos of the battle. You can turn him in, or join him. Both choices have consequences for later.
You can also sneak away before the battle and join the attacking army. There should be other ways to sneak out besides the secret entrance. One way could be stealing a set of guard armour and join a group of volunteers that's attempting to slip past enemy lines and get word to an allied castle.

I know that we all have theorized that the canon ending for Skyrim is the Empire winning the war, but consider this.
They like to start us out as a prisoner, it happens over and over in TES. Suppose Skyrim really did when the war, and since both Hammerfell and Highrock are on Skyrim's borders, it wouldn't be that hard to come up with a prisoner starting scenario having to do with that outcome of the civil war.
Say, you are right, and the teaser is actually showing northern Highrock. In that case the game could begin with the character in jail at Jehanna, having been caught crossing the border from Skyrim, which is now considered a hostile nation, because of Highrock's ongoing alliance with the Emprie.
Alternatively the game could start with a similar scenario in Hammerfell, but in that case, it could be done with either outcome of the Skyrim Civil War.
Either way, it seems almost certain that I'll be able to visit either Fang Lair, or the Crypt of Hearts, possibly even both, which would be a nice nostalgia trip. Similar to how it felt visiting Labyrinthian in Skyrim!

oo I actually kind of hope that it doesn't require strategic plans because then you can't just go off murdering people. Or maybe, if it does have strategy, they'll have an option of you just becoming a king and taking over all of High Rock like some sort of ancient dictator. I would like to do that because that would be me lol like, you could assassinate a king (either by doing it yourself or paying an assassin) and then make yourself the king there and it'll be like when you stole stuff from shops in Skyrim, people just send assassins or mercenaries after you in order to try and take your throne. That'd actually be pretty cool, but you can also murder-hobo people.

However there are other intuitions for learning magic present such as the School of Juilanous which was introduced in Daggerfell (the Game). Speaking of Daggerfell, most of High Rock was present in said game. So ESVI being in High Rock would be kinda odd.

Now, High Rock does sound very interesting and I've always thought so. But I was really hoping it would be the Isles instead. It would be nice to see the other side for once. Skyrim was part of the empire, in dire straits and very pro-human. It would be interesting to see a place that's part of the Aldmeri Dominion, which is doing better than it ever has and is very pro-elf.

I'm very skeptical of the idea of a whole shift in the way they do things with these factions and stuff. I think it's more likely it'll be another save the world kind of story and that things like reputation and titles won't be back. It seems to me like over the last few games, specifically Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim they've been simplifying the game and cutting down on the complexity. And I see no indication of that trend ending. That being said, I hope they end up surprising me. Because I would love for things like titles and reputation to return and play an important role and I would love to be part of some political intrigue.

I agree Orsinium would be likely an expansion, but it'd be nice to see Orismer culture get its due (its been woefully underrepresented in previous games). As for Camelworks' - he and Fudgepuppet seem to disagree, and I'm still skeptical about the angle of the sun/coastline idea. But as alluded to in the video, those guys have discussed this well and truly and I'm happy to leave that to them haha. This was just my thought experiment on what it'd be as High Rock.

Lots of speculation when this game can be just Hammerfell instead. My first immediate guess from the trailer is that it will have a lot of navigation or/and piratish stuff merely because of the music. I think to counter Ubisoft's achievements on that. If it was High Rock the ''theme'' would be a repetition of Morrowind's (at some extent) The next thing to remove from the maps won't be gates to oblivion nor dragons but probably underwater monstrosities.

As mentioned, I'm not so much concerned with whether it's High Rock or Hammerfell. This is just exploring what High Rock *could* be like. That said, Camelwork's note about Azra's crossing is very persuasive evidence. The primary issue is for that to be the southern line of Illiac Bay the sun would have to be shining from the north-east.

I like the theory of it being both. I honestly think the sun thing might have been a mistake on Bethesda's part I guess we wont know for sure for many years =P P.S. you should consider applying to write story and quests for "Beyond Skyrim" Seems like you would be a good fit for the project =)

Craz3t0wn Bethesda wouldn’t make a mistake so critical, and they horns sound like it’d be medieval France. Hopefully it’s both Hammerfell and High Rock

I really hope its High Rock, Hammerfell and a newly built Orsinium.
If any case im hoping High Rock. If you look at the history of wales, norman Britain, Ireland and Scotland; the quote "find a hill become a King" describes it to a T.
Its identical to the thousands of warring mini kingdoms.
I would love to see different Breton kingdoms some like the celts, some like Arthurian Britain, some like the welsh and some like the Scots and Irish. Throw in southern France and Mediterranean feel to the High Rock border with Hammerfell and then a sort of pirates of the Caribbean feel going into Arabic feel headed into the stros mkai and west coast/bay regions of hammerfell.
Would love to see different types of orcs warring with the reachmen in the Wrothgar mountains. Then the Empire linked areas along Cyrodil looking and feeling like the Romans that invaded western Europe.
I would love to see alot of different knightly guilds and mage covens that you cant join them as they compete and war with eachother.

I hope in ES6 there will be Crossbows, that would be an alternative to Long Bows in a way that they would be one-handed rather than two-handed like in Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim (Like Greatsword is an alternative to Long Sword for example!), so that we could hold torch in one hand, while Crossbow in another! That would ease the pain of having to constantly drop the torch every time we wanted to use Bow, since its the only ranged weapon class, that can kill people undetected! Having torch in one hand and crossbow in another would be very helpful in caves and dungeons! Alternative could be giving us an actual usable lantern, that we could stick the belt, so that it would have the hands of our PC unoccupied and thus letting us use any two-handed weapon we want, without having to sacrifice not seeing a damn thing in the dark...There is a perfectly working mod for that for Skyrim on Nexus modding site, considering how Bethesda was rolling with borrowing modders' ideas and officially introducing these ideas in their later games i wouldn't be surprised if they made lantern mod (which is one of the most popular and important mods on Nexus) an actual feature in ES6!

You'd be right if Hammerfell's coast went perfectly east to west but it doesn't. The camera is pointing SOUTH-EAST along the coast. The sun is behind the camera and to the right in the west, (maybe about 3 or 4 o'clock) casting shadows on the east side of the Corten Mountains in Hammerfell. It makes perfect sense.

Breton titles in High Rock are actually hereditary, but unlike in our world, you still have to work to keep them, and titles can be and are easily removed when a blood-noble does not prove him/herself through his/her actions

I want to know how they tackle how Brettons have Elven blood in them. Not just that they have magic, but they look enough like Elves that the Nords didn't recognize them. Will we have factions that want to return to their roots, Human or Elven? Subtle cultural cues such as decorations or local festivals. In previous games what race you were caused people to react to you in certain ways. With so much infighting already, I wonder how this will play into the game?

High Rock has varied geography, the area in the trailer is closer to Skyrim, High Rock looks more like a more beautiful Cyrodiil when you are away from the High Rock-Hammerfell-Skyrim Border

If Orsinium isn’t in the base game, I hope it’s at least a comprehensive DLC that deals with a recently resettled Orsinium, & asserting it’s sovereignty.
Maybe we could become the Monarch/Chief of Orsinium? Either as an Orc, or Blood-Kin for non-Orc players?
Set the legacy for a proper, lasting, legitimate Orsinium!

It would be cool though to instantly fail and have to reset if your cover as a Dark Brotherhood assassin is revealed and witnesses not silenced quick enough. I always thought it weird you could just kill anyone in Skyrim if you were rich enough.

So why would Bethesda limit the game to one province? Not only that, but one of the SMALLEST provinces in Tamriel. They should honestly create High Rock and Hammerfell in one. Even the trailer looks like it takes place between the shores of Hammerfell and High Rock. They could add a sailing mechanic and a whole faction for pirating. There’s just so much potential if they do both provinces.
