Best version!! Just so you know, in the 70's Led Zeppelin was the most pirated band ever. People were bringing 16 mm movie cameras to their shows. There are tons of pirate videos out there. So when they made this DVD, like in 2010, Jimmy Page (lead guitar, chief of the band) compiled pirate videos to make THIS video. He says he always loved the pirate videos of their concerts.

Led Zeppelin was like the Beatles of heavy metal. Having grown up at the time there was nothing ever like this before. Every album they put out was excellence and originality. Go through their library I'm sure you will agree. Jimmy Page was one of the original rock and roll session players like Eric Clapton.. honestly the first time I heard this I was a young teenager and I almost had a heart attack lol after this the biggest thing was Black Sabbath and then after that was Metallica in my opinion

    • @erikweingartner
      @erikweingartner Месяц назад +6

John Paul Jones was the secret sauce! He was the best musician of the entire group.. and that's saying a LOT. A classically trained musician and session musician, JPJ was a great guitar player that happened to play bass, keyboards, and mandolin for the band. If you go back a listen to much of their catalog, his bass lines really define Led Zeppelin's classic sound. When people refer to LZ as a "super group", it's because all four of them were at the pinnacle of their respective professions and John Paul Jones was no exception.

The singer Robert Plant is very interested in early British history. This is about the Scandinavian viking raids and invasion of the British Isles from 794 AD . The occupied north east england ,northumbria, for several hundred years . Led Zep had been doing concerts in Iceland and apparently had had a very nice time so they wrote this to celebrate . I also think you should do Since i've been loving you the live at Madison square garden 1973 performance next , you'll see their blues influenced side but if you want to go full on rock Black Dog , rocknroll and heart breaker all from the same concert. You need more led zep resistance is futile !!!

I saw them at Madison Square Garden the same year. I have never seen such tight security at a concert in my life! I had my ticket checked 6 times before I got to my seat. There had just been a riot at one of their shows in Tampa, Florida because of a rainout. They weren’t taking any chances of a repeat of that, even though MSG is an indoor venue. There were cops all over the place. I was in an orchestra seat, and if you ventured beyond your little section, the cops would rudely push you back where you “belonged”. Never had that happen, before or since then. On top of that, there were idiots in the upper seats throwing firecrackers down on us below. Some jerk hit Jimmy Page’s hand with one at the following night’s show. Crazy times. 😂 Other than that, it was a great concert. Jimmy’s violin bow solo while surrounded by a swirling green laser pyramid was particularly memorable.

This song was about the Vikings and their raids in England. They had been touring in Iceland and were inspired. A lot of the bands in the 70's were well read. It was a much different time.

Led Zeppelin never disappoints. Robert Plant is one of the best rock/blues vocalists. What a voice. He's still touring here and there in his 70s. He had a highly successful solo career also. After Led Zeppelin broke up when John Bonham died, the epic fantastic drummer. They said they would never be the same without Bonham.

Use of the song in media
Led Zeppelin originally denied Richard Linklater permission to use "Immigrant Song" in School of Rock (2003), but star Jack Black was able to convince them by making a video of himself performing the song.[24] In the movie Shrek the Third (2007), "Immigrant Song" appears in a battle scene involving the character Snow White.[25] A cover of "Immigrant Song", produced by Atticus Ross and Nine Inch Nails member Trent Reznor with vocals from Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O, plays in the trailer and throughout the title sequence of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011).[26] "Immigrant Song" was included in both the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and twice in the film itself, due to director Taika Waititi's suggestion of the song from the time of his first involvement with the film and to the persistent efforts of the movie's music supervisor Dave Jordan.[27]

This is EXACTLY the one to choose!
I feel electrified every time I watch this video. It's almost incomprehensible how good this band is. Those drums - Jon Bonham, that electric guitar - Jimmy Page, that bass guitar - John Paul Jones, and of course, the insane voice of Robert Plant.
I don't think there's ever been any band that can come close to the cohesiveness of each of the parts. Plants' voice is like an instrument of its own.
They have such an extensive catalog. Thanks for playing this one. It gives you a perfect example of what this band can do. And there's more in store. A rabbit hole I think you will find almost addicting.
I will always be completely pissed at myself for not going to see them back then. It's not like I didn't have the chance.

This song was in School of Rock. Also the brother in the Police Academy movies who does all the crazy voices did a bit about this song in his stand-up routine.

The band had toured in Iceland, & Plant anyways became fascinated about the Viking lore. This song was written kind of as a joke, but became very popular. It’s been used to some extent in several movies. Though everything they did is amazing, try Earls Court (1975) In My Time Of Dying, Page plays the hell out of a steel guitar. At Knebworth (1979) Achilles Last Stand* In The Evening & Kashmir. Anything from MSG (1973), is exceptional. A great studio only song is, You Shook Me. Thanks for your reaction, & keep going down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole.

favorite moment as a substitute co-teacher at my kids' school: when the lead teacher put this song on for study time. SO FREAKING AWESOME to see all these 5th grader heads banging to the music while doing their math and writing worksheets 😎

That yell is a Viking war cry. If you listen to any Norse music, you’ll hear a lot of them (though maybe less epic than Robert Plant’s. More authentic, but not more epic!) ❤️🎶

Led Zeppelin's lyrics are seriously deep. They even have another song that has lyrics in it about Mordor and Middle Earth and golem. I can't remember the name of it right now because I just had a brainmeld but you absolutely must do Stairway to heaven.

You're right - Led Zep are the originators of heavy metal rock and of that style. But in that it often gets lost that about half their music is acoustic folk and they were equally adept at blues, jazz, funk, even reggae.

It was wonderful watching you react to this for the first time. I grew up out in the country and my dad used to wake us up blasting this song - the whole album - at top volume. I actually loved starting my day with a Viking war song :D
If you enjoy Led Zeppelin so far, You should Check out Black Dog. The live at Madison square garden footage is good, but you should also check out the official audio. Robert Plant's vocal performance on the Album is awesome .
