This doesn't pertain to Elizabeth directly but I was struck by your mention of Anne Boleyn's belief that more money should be taken from the monasteries and given to charity. Anne Boleyn is reputed to have been ruthless, proud, and even meanspirited, yet, as selfish and unpleasant as she was, she still wanted to see more done for the poor. This contradiction in her nature intrigues me.
Thomas was a gold digger. I’d venture to say he was never really in love with Katherine Parr. Before Henry, she was a wealthy widow, and he was after her wealth, after Henry, still wealthier and he “settled” on her because the council vetoed his attempts to try and marry Mary or Elizabeth and a Queen Dowager was still a catch to compete with his protector brother. He shamelessly tried to seduce, if not outright abuse the relationship of guardianship over Elizabeth, even while married to Katherine and her being so very young, it’s quite frankly, deplorable. He should never have been in any embrace with his teenage stepdaughter to start off with. Then he even tried to manipulate Edward VI, to the point of killing a dog of his in a kidnapping attempt. Not even by Tudor standards was he ever a gentleman. His entire life was spent in his brother’s shadow trying to outdo his brother in an attempt to get political power and influence.
Sadly the history on Thomas Seymour has been very one-sided and biased over the centuries. This is why I'm writing a book on him, to paid a more full picture of the man. All we can do is look at the evidence which remains. He didn't settle on Parr, and never attempted to wed Mary (never). I'll save the rest for my book and you can decide at that point if you want a different perspective.
Thomas was a pervert. I think how he was really affected Elizabeths future.. Why Catherine ever married him after the king i dunno.. Poor Catherine finally having a baby then she dies.. such a tragic thing..
To call him a 'pervert' is unfair. There may have been flirting (if you believe Kat Ashley's testimony) between Tom and Elizabeth, but there is nothing that would constitute him being a pervert. She was a woman. He was a man. Live in the 16th century cannot be compared to modern day - to do so is unfair to all characters in history, not just Thomas Seymour.
@@TudorsDynasty well I wrote that a year ago and I sadly still think the same. In today's world he would of been thought of a perv. Wasn't Elizabeth only 13 to his 38-39 whatever he was. Didn't he write a letter asking for marriage to Elizabeth. Sorry I'm not a fan of him at all.
@@sharonanne6293 he did not write to propose to her, nor did she decline his proposal by letter. They were both fakes created by Gregorio Leti. Elizabeth was 14 at the time of the alleged instances. Old enough to marry. And it was known that she liked Thomas. Her servant said she blushed upon hearing his name.
