  • On this episode I speak with Australian author and historian, Dr. Wendy J. Dunn. Wendy is the author of three absolutely amazing Tudor novels. We talk about the central characters in each: Anne Boleyn, Thomas Wyatt, Catherine Carey and Katherine of Aragon.
Wendy also discusses what the writing process was like for her, as well as how she handled rejection.
We discuss Katherine of Aragon's early years before arriving in England as her time with Arthur. Somehow I got her to answer the 'did they or didn't they question'.

Just learned more about Wife #1 after watching The Six Queens of Henry XIII. It fleshed out details I had never heard, and literally had me saying “Wow!” several times. Mad respect for Queen #1!

Katherine of Aragon was a credit to her wonderful parents. What a Queen Warrior!

I always thought Catherine’s ancestor was Blanche of Lancaster - Oopsie - am I wrong. Where did Blanche come into it then . Thank you. Very enjoyable- I’ve always admired Catherine . I so agree with you, the colour of Catherine’s hair is a bone of contention with me. I did admire who played Catherine in - I think the Tudor series. She caught her perfectly to me but she did have dark Spanish looks. The colour of Catherine’s hair is about the only thing the Spanish Princess got right! From a historical viewpoint - oh my!!!! Only worse one I’ve seen is Reign! On a lighter note , may I add that the first two times that whatever that noise in every now and again, I got up,to answer my doorbell!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺. Most enjoyable, thank you to the both of you

I just made a video about Henry Viii on my RUclips channel and pretty much made it about praising Katherine of Aragon as I didn’t have much good to say about Henry 😔 This video is a great tribute to this former queen!

Question, since Katherine of Aragon was bethrothed to Arthur at age 3 why wasn’t she taught to speak English as a child?

Latin was the lingua franca of the day, and while the betrothal was executed in relative infancy, mortality even among royalty, was high. Queen Catherine eventually became fluent in English, but spoke Spanish within her household.

She's an historian and doesn't see another reason for Ferdinand's and Isabella's expelling the Moors and Jews other tgan enriching themselves? You have to be kidding me.

I don't mean to be critical, but this lady's book on Cathryn of Aarigon sounds almost exactly like Phillippa Gregory's the constant princess.

@@TudorsDynasty I did make my assumption based on only her description in your podcast, but I will get her books so I can form a more honest answer. I am a great fan of PG though. But in saying that I also I am a huge fan of historical fiction and history. The Tudor period in particular.

This logic, to annul a marriage that had already had children (Queen Mary) (or sex) is weird he did.

The cruelty of the past never ceases to disgust me. Unfortunately cruelty is not absent from today's world either....until it is the world will continue lost. Clearly religion is not an answer. The world needs to realise we are of one source & stop being guided by power & the want of power.

Going by Henry's true pattern, because men never change their pattern, Henry dumped his Mistresses when they became pregnant. He was done with them and totally refused to have anything to do with them, more so if they disappointed him by having a girl.so the girl probably was his.look at how he treated Mary B. and how he treated Bessie.
