    Thanks for quick reply...I am planning to avoid surprises.
    OK, new heater core, A/C evaporator, HeaterTreater metal fresh air door, factory heater hoses... BLEND doors are already done. Need to find A/C shop to discharge/recharge the A/C. Hope to make this car go another 100,000 miles...will get started in the next month. Your film crews attention to lighting, narrative wins the "auto fix-it" video award. Your video is great, most, not so much... : )

    Tony,
    The connector for the blower-motor resistor (under the passenger-side of the dash) tends to overheat and ruin the connection. In fact, the connector will frequently melt.
    There is a replacement connector from Jeep, but the problem will frequently recur. I solved this by soldering some wires right to the connector pins on the resistor itself, and then using a heavy-duty GM 3-pin connector to replace the undersized factory connector.

    I'm cursing a heater core in a 2000 Jeep GC right now, but I didn't evac the a/c. A little more of a pain in the butt, but there's no extra cost. I split the heater box and left the a/c evaporator and the top portion the of heater box in the vehicle while I removed the bottom, it has to be hosed out anyway because there's coolant in all the little pockets in the air box. I also found a broken blend door.

  • @bbsbcv
    @bbsbcv  12 лет назад

    @1sicsrt There are kits to repair this by cutting open the heater-box. If you've never replaced the heater core or the A/C evaporator, though, then they will require the dash-removal process shown in the video, and you may as well replace the broken blend-door and recirculation-doors at that time.

    29 may be the reason I couldn’t completely remove the dash. I was able to swap the door for the recirc and the motor but wasn’t nearly as easy as it could have been

    @atomb09 Much easier than taking it apart; it literally is the reverse of the removal, and if you store the fasteners in a divided storage-box, you just go backwards through the compartments to get the right screws/nuts.

    Did you actually remove the steering column? The video is so detailed I can't imagine that it wasn't highlighted if that was the case.

    Hi bbsbcv
    I watched all three parts and you did a killer job on going thru the steps. I read all the comments for any additional information. (like the actuator reset info) I like the fact you used a drill and air ratchet to make the job move faster. Way to much ratcheting to do it by hand.
    I've got a heater core leak 02 JGC 4.0 2WD 161k will replace evap at the same time and keep
    my fingers crossed I don't find the blend/recirc doors or motors bad. I dl your vids for reference when I'm ready to do the job. How long does it take for the dash and heater core fix ? 6 hrs ? 8?
    Anyway, Thank you very much for posting. It will make my life easier to deal with this fix
    Tony

    Great video! Question- do you need an Auto A/C shop to discharge the A/C ? Replace A/C evaporator as well as the heater core ?
    On firewall/engine side - new heater lines ? Mine are steel tubes at the front but rubber hose at the back. HOW did you get the rubber hoses on the heater core I can not even SEE the ends. Already did the blend doors with a metal HeaterTreater kit, but the fresh air door needs to be done when the dash is out. Video is well organized, lit, etc Camera crew is tops Thanks

    @bbsbcv  11 лет назад

    For the A/C not coming on, it's likely your system is low on refrigerant, perhaps due to a leaky evaporator (which you can also replace while under the dash).

    great video...wondering if getting it back together was as much as a pia as taking it apart? was

    This is my third time taking the dashboard off. Thanks, your video has helped a lot. First time I replaced blend doors. A few weeks later the actuators went bad so I had to do it a second time. This time I replaced all motors, blend doors (again) rec door and evaporator. I should have replaced the heater core. That is why I'm doing it again. Question: I've read I'm supposed to recalibrate the actuators after replacing them. Is this something I can do myself and How? Any help will be great.

  • @bbsbcv
    @bbsbcv  12 лет назад

    The actuators recalibrate themselves automatically; they usually do it about five minutes after you've shut off the car, so if you hear some buzzing and whirring from under the dash while you're sitting in your parked Grand Cherokee, that's what it usually is.

    Thank you for the video, I have done all the steps and the driver and passenger side are lose but when i try to remove the dash it seem like there is something right in the middle that is holding it up? Thoughts?

  • @bbsbcv
    @bbsbcv  13 лет назад

    @253cjm Yeah... no. In fact, I have to do this AGAIN, as the heater-core I put in last Summer has started to leak (I'm guessing a flaw in the seams is at fault). I'm just waiting for the weather to get above 30'F...

    I have a 2001 GC with the in-line 6, and my heater core is bad. Would your video's instructions work for that year/model/engine?
    Thanks!

    Yea I have one comment,,,THANK YOU!!!! Your video on this procedure turned what everyone including dealer mechanics in my city as a complete pain in the Arse and be ready for 5 hours of hell into removing a few nuts and bolts. Take a Bow

  • @bbsbcv
    @bbsbcv  13 лет назад

    @kmark1987 did you remove the nut from the stud right above the brake-pedal? That's the one people usually miss.

    Great video, but I was actually looking for instructions on how to replace just the HVAC panel on my 2001 GC Laredo. It has only a single knob for temp control, another for selecting vent options. The fan switch died so I found a used panel on Ebay. So instead of needing to remove the entire dash, I just need to remove the center panel below the dash AC vents. Know of any videos that might help me out here? Thanks!

    Is there any reason why the part 3 went from 99-04 to 99-00? Anything exclusive in this video that is different to 2001+ models?
    Thanks!

    So you don't need to disconnect anything under the hood?

    A few more questions. Is there danger the air bags will go off during this 3 part process? Also is this the best or maybe only way to get to speedometer to recalibrate? Mine sits at 13-15 mph from the start so I never trust it to give me my correct speed. Now for the MOTHER of all questions. If none of my electric on passenger side is working - Windows, side mirror etc. And I have already repaired broken wires in boot on both sides & replaced master control on drivers side, what would be the next thing u suggest trying to repair it? My pass window is stuck 1/4 down & we've had rain, Plus the safety issue of someone breaking in. I'm a single female widow and I don't like driving around w the window partly down. Please help?

    I have a leak on my windshield wiper reservoir any vids on how to remove it first time in this looks like a tight squeez!

  • @bbsbcv
    @bbsbcv  13 лет назад

    @PJinPV1 The refrigerant in the A/C *should* be recovered by a shop, unless it has already leaked out.
    I replaced the heater hoses with the factory-replacement, since I had replaced all the other hoses and wanted the extra security. To handle the hoses, I left them connected to the heater-core, but disconnected the hoses at the engine-end, pulled the heater-box into the passenger-compartment after it was unbolted, and disconnected the hoses from inside the passenger-compartment.

    Hi, work on a 2002 grand cheroke and i have the dash almost out but something is not letting me pull the dash away from the firewall. It is hung up in the middle on something or i missed a bolt or nut. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark

    • @robertbarry2782
      @robertbarry2782 10 лет назад

      That might be the bolt right above the brake-pedal; the other hangup is the tab on the right-side you need to depress with the prybar.

    What's the difference between jeep grand cherokee I (1999-2000)
    & jeep grand cherokee II
    (1999-2000) &
    jeep grand cherokee III (1999-2000)
    a bit confusing when I was prompted by this site:
