I also thought of how some people will have two buttons for years and somehow still hit the wrong one quite often. I was just throwing it out there.
I think it was billy stu was watching movies at the time with others I do believe plus Billy showed up shortly after she was killed
I think Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson intentionally left the roles Billy and Stu played in the murders and who they killed unanswered and up to the audience because it was something people would discuss and analyze for years, as we're currently doing right now. It's just one of the many reasons that makes Scream brilliant. With that said, Stu definitely killed Tatum. Being that it's his own house it makes more sense that he would know the perfect spots where to hide before moving on Tatum in the garage.

My thing that got me that showed it was Stu, Randy was the one that answered Stu's phone when the news about the principal came in. And Stu was no where to be seen. So that gave me the clue right there! Dude stu killed Tatum
I saw this in the theater, and I've always thought it was Stu.
Billy killed the principal and was still at the school and hang him on the goalpost wouldn’t be enough time to get to her in the garage so Stu did it.

principal himbry expels them for that stunt AFTER billy is released from jail
for me it makes more sens that it's stu who killed Himbry. Since in the previous scene he is walking to the school.
He hang the body, and it's only hours after that the body was found.

My thoughts exactly. Or what if Sidney left with them to check out the body?
There's even more evidence for Stu than you covered.
1. The time jump between Tatum's death and Billy arriving is, confirmed, about an hour. When Stu asks Tatum to get beers, Randy is having people vote for which horror movie to watch. When Billy shows up, they're about halfway through Halloween, and Sid hasn't seen Tatum in long enough to be a bit concerned. Why would Billy sit outside doing nothing for an hour?
2. When Gale goes inside, which is at the same time as Stu asks Tatum to go to the garage, she sets up and turns on the camera. Last thing Tatum does before going to the garage is talk to Dewey. Well, we actually see the camera turn on from inside the van, where Kenny is watching. Stu is not present after the Gale places and turns on the camera. He is no longer in the living room at the exact time of Tatum's death.
3. This one is a bit more emotion than logic, but Stu clearly picked some people to die (see Casey, Steve, whom Billy had no issue with) and it truthfully makes more sense that Stu would want to kill his girlfriend just like Billy planned to kill Sid (and Stu assumed Billy was doing this for no reason, since he had no idea about the affair)
4. Also a bit of meta reason: in Scream 2, and 4 (the only other Screams Williamson wrote) Williamson has a tendency to have the accomplice do most of the killing, and the mastermind try to keep their hands cleaner. I think it makes sense for that logic to apply to Scream 1 also.
I think this might be the most conclusive evidence pointing to one of the two killers of literally any kill in the movie. There's even a slight chance Kenny was Billy (I don't think so, but it's posible), but the evidence on Tatum is *heavily* pointing to Stu.
not disagreeing but you cannot use the time frame of Halloween as evidence. that movie jumps back and forth in that entire sequence to which it makes no sense.
@@seanstrosities I agree it's not perfect, but the jump between picking the movie and the time Billy arrives is the most significant jump. Billy arrives just before Paul's deathm at 1 hr 5 min into the movie. The climax occurs while Laurie is being stalked by Michael. Not perfectly matched or timed, but they are trying to *roughly* match.
We can also see, when Billy arrives, Gale and Kenny have been so bored that Kenny is playing with his Cheetos. This is a lot more logical if it's been about an hour, as opposed to them only getting the camera online about two minutes ago.
Also, Sid looking for Tatum and Stu saying "I haven't seen her" and saying she probably got mad at him and left makes more sense if they had not both seen her literally about three minutes before.

As I mentioned in my comment, for me biggest 'queen proof' is Stu literally quoting Tate's (paraphrases) last words to killer. 🔪 👻
Also Stu in a movie has tendency of using others words, as his excuses. Even famous 'Peer preasure, I am far too sensitive.' is quote from Billy's and Stu cutted scene in front of BLOCKBUSTER, where answering to Stu's question "Why You are always at me?", Billy answers "I help You build Your self esteem. You are far too sensitive." and taps him in a forehead, as sign of affection.
Similar is with "I wanna be in a SEQUEL!" / "You gotta have a sequel!"
Only two people ever in 1996 mention sequel and this is Tate to killer and Stu. And he tells it to Sidney - friend of his previous victim. But also he expects, their NEXT victim. 🤷🏻♀️
Apropos RANDY *his words* , just like Tatum's, or Billy, Stu uses as excuse for his deed. When he says 'I'll be right back', it is using Randy words, so to get out of room, without being suspicious. 🤷🏻♀️
Obvious is, Stu talk with Randy in video store, about "Stupid, BS reason to kill Your girlfriend!", but what in my opinion is overlooked TRUE REASON of that kill is "[...], if You make it too complicated, You'll lose Your TARGET AUDIENCE."
As in kitchen scene, we are directly said, it IS MOVIE, as for Billy, as Stu. And observing Stu's seemingly naive question, he obviously is considering and processing Randy words. By end he seems accepting his reason and next scene almost, Tate is dead.
Also song *Drop Dead Georgous* by Republica, that is background of this kill is literally having lyrics about girl forgiving her (now obviously for Tate) ex all his lies. "I love my ex boyfriend lies. Oh, he does it every time."
Of course, there is also dozen clues, like 'prediction' of Tate's death - while Stu hangs her of his arm and we got one shot on her bum on certain angle, then her tilted head, while she laugh. Almost exact same shots are used for her garage door death. Only she is screaming, instead of laughing...
And whole mood of this kill. It always looked for me like 'joke went out of control'. 🙃
What if Stu got horny during couch sesh and thought he play Ghostface joke on Tate? If her attacking him, when he - as always, - not really fought back, tripped whole time, caused him being annoyed, remembering Randy's words and... Yeah, nice. It WORKED. 🤷🏻♀️ 🤣
What if Tate dies... Because she hit Stu once too much during their relationship? 😂😂😂
Another point for Stu- how would Billy even know where Tatum was? If it was him in the garage it means he had just shown up in the last few minutes.
Stu sent her to the garage specifically because he knew no one else was in there.

Another detail that supports your theory is. The door was obviously locked from the inside but when the killer goes back in the doors unlocked, so it’s obvious Stu waited til the garaged opened came out and killed her going right back thru the door he came from.
Or…..or….if you look at the scene closely, after the killer came in the garage when Tatums walking towards the opening garage, the door never re-locked. Watch closely when Tatum runs to the door after hitting Ghostface with the freezer door. She doesn’t try the door again, she puts her finger on the garage button in an almost attempt to open it again. But then decides to run down and throw bottles at ghostface. What if Billy was behind the locked door, unlocked it to go kill her not expecting her to get past him? She really could have ran right back into the house and survived. Anyway, that’s why it could have been Billy.

Look at the height difference, stu is much taller, and fits the height for Tatums kill

It makes sense and honestly i never really thought about why the killer went inside the house instead of going through the garbage door

Stu has always been way more comedic and flamboyant in his kills compared to Billy
I think that "that look" Billy gave Stu can also be more like an "I saw what you did there - good job, man" look. Meaning that Billy saw Tatum's corpse and was impressed by that.

It was Stu. His clumsiness. His lack of needing to do anything but take off the costume and store it away instead of having to do that and sneak out without being noticed.
Also easier for someone who lives there to be able to explain why he is carrying some random black fabric and tucking it away somewhere. If Billy randomly gets caught doing anything with the costume, it can’t be explained away like Stu being able to say “one of my mom’s old table clothes, don’t wanna get beer on it, she’ll kill me”
Also I think that look from Billy is him confirming that Tatum is dead cause he saw her body and probably wasn’t happy with a big red flag on the outside of the house like that.

Finally, someone brings up that Kevin Williamson confirmed Stu killed Casey. The amount of ppl saying it was Billy, despite that theory being contradicted by the writer HIMSELF, was annoying me.

I also personally believe that Stu did all the dirty grunt work in the opening, while Billy was doing the psychological torturing over the phone. It also backs up Billy’s claim about him not killing anyone since, at that point, he really hadn’t killed anyone.

Personally, I think, due to Kitchen scene and Himbry/Casey comparition + PSYCHO shower scene mirroring, that they BOTH killed her. But TECHNICALLY, Stu. 🙃
To explain: Stu hanged and gutted her, in my opinon. Billy stabbed her multiple, just like Himbry. 😊
So, while he dragged her, she was still alive. Like Stu, before multiple stabs from Billy, whatever one want to believe later. 😏

This is why the scream franchise , as far as the first tso films are concerned, had a weird way of addressing who the killers are, as far as who killed who. BILLY was the obvious killer of tatum over the years, but the way the movie shows it, felt weird.. THE WRITERS, etc probably didnt really took seriously on who fans are going to think who the kill was, and so they just kinda go with the kills like a conventional slaher flicks with one killer only.. But based on this garage scene, and why tje killer would go back instead going out, its Stu..

And Woodsboro PD was almost DESPERATELLY wanting to pin it on Neil Prescott... So, who knows, if MONEY factor added, his fingerprints will never be compared... I agree with a lot of what you are saying. And I actually agree that Stu is the person that is the likely culprit, but I always feel like deleted scenes are completely non-canon. There's no way that it's fair to think that a scene that is not watchable to theater patrons is canon to the story. All your other points do make sense though.

There is no proof the principal was actually hung from the goal post. That phone call was just to get everyone to leave the party and go see the body.
@kustombypook In the last movie in the room with all the evidence there is a drawing of that crime scene particularly.
That’s why it would’ve taken some time for Billy to do that and why it couldn’t have been him that killed Tatum.. It would’ve been very difficult, but not impossible

Possible the look was "I hid her body" considering he always get into stu for having no tact or composure. Her body would have been noticed and caused a mass panic not allowing them to get to Sydney like they wanted

For the first time, after watching this video, I now understand why they killed Himbry. They KNEW almost everyone at Stu's would leave to check it out. They killed him to empty out Stu's house so that they could (try to) kill Sidney. It was a strategic kill (though they probably did have some beef with Himbry, too, explaining why they chose him for the job).
I always assumed the look was just an acknowledgement of Stu and Billy's plan to get Billy and Sidney alone together to "talk." Like "she's here, good job"
Could be that rolled into it as well
1) Stu is wearing the Hefner robe before Tatum's death, but the robe is only hanging off his shoulders after the garage and off completely after the fake attack on Billy. He'd have to take it off to put on the Ghostface costume.
2) Billy would never use the garage door to kill Tatum. He's too brutal a killer. Billy would have dragged her out of the door and used a knife. Stu's an opportunistic fool, so the garage door death tracks.
3) Billy popping up immediately after Tatum's death is obviously another red herring.
4) The way Ghostface played along with Tatum's sarcasm, nodding and such, the way he cut her arm, etc. That feels very different from all the other attacks. It feels so much more intimate and personal, like something an abusive boyfriend would do. Billy played with Sydney like that after the reveal and wouldn't have taken the time to savor killing Tatum in the same way that Stu would have.
All of these are all great additional reasons why yea it was Stu

Oh! and another clue from the beginning that there were two killers is that one person really couldn't have strung up Casey like that so quickly, but viewers don't notice because we're used to ridiculous things happening in horror movies and the movie's more realistic tone hadn't been established yet. Principal Himbry could have been hanged by one person because time wasn't a factor (but that could have happened whenever that afternoon because people wouldn't have necessarily found the body right away). Also, viewers don't notice Billy and Stu's black boots throughout the movie because this was 1996, and like half of all alterna guys wore black boots. The rest were in Vans or Converse. 😂

Only flaw I have to pick out in this entire theory is in regards to the lights turning off in the garage. This was probably during a period in which garage lights weren't as popular, and people used the automatic light on the garage door motor as a light for the garage. It was just a case of the garage door motor's light timer coincidentally shutting off.

Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one. The more convoluted the explanation, the less likely it's the truth. Billy would have had to go through way too many hoops to not be seen if he killed Tatum. It just makes way more logical sense it was Stu, and is the simplest explanation.

@@NerdsAtNite some people just thrive on overcomplicating things for no reason. They want to feel smart by seeing complex patterns that aren't even there to begin with.
There’s a bathroom & a small closet to the left JUST before you get to the door that leads to the garage so this makes a lot of sense on how Stu could have quickly gone in there to change back into his party clothes and gone back to the party. If it was Billy, Ghost Face would have left from the garage, disposed of the costume & ran out to meet Stu at the front door. Very well done man. I’ve been a fan of this movie since the early 2000s when I was a kid and always thought it was Billy haha

Stu knows the layout of his own house. Is the host and can slip in and out easily without too much suspicious thoughts from everyone. He sent Tatum into the trap knowing nobody else was there or could see him. Billy was killing the principal and showed up late. Then since this movie has 2 killers, there's another idea, they can switch back and forth. The only way you can be in 2 places at once is if both of you do the job. Still think it was Stu who did the deed though, he was kinda weird and creepy

As a detective chief inspector in the UK id like to point out another clue as to how stu killed tatum note that billy doesn't smell of alcohol or sid would have noticed or have stains on his shirt where the alcohol would have soaked through when tatum hit the killer and how stu was wearing the red house coat but later isn't theory is he never took the coat off when he put the costume on it got wet

This is just my opinion, but I believe that Billy, whilst being the most psycopathic out of the 2, did not really want a huge killing spree.
He was content with killing Maureen and Sidney. The principal was just a means to an end.
Those 2 were the ones that wronged him, I do not. Think he would've gone on after that.
Just like Roman said, a partner to sell off just in case the police did not buy Neil as the killer.
As for Stu, even though he claims his motive is peer pressure and being far too sensitive, this I believe only applies to his ability to have his own opinions.
Up until the ending he was under the impression they were killimg for fun:
Killing Casey and Steve as revenge(confirmed by kevin williamson and indirectly by wes Craven in the commentary) Was his idea, atleast according to wes in the commentary, they never mentioned anything sbout targeting sidney.
He killed Tatum because randy somejow convinced him, since Billy was dealing with Sid, Tatum had to go aswell.
Kenny was just bad timing.
Even during their reveal, stu is the only one that brings up a sequel, and is the one more willing to wear the ghostface costume.
In my opinion, Billy is more than an angry Bloodthirsty killer, that sounds a loy more like Stu.
Billy was methodical, somewhat impulsive, but certainly thought before acting.

Ok seeing the clues, I think it makes more sense that Stu killed Tatum. Stu is the more clumsier ghostface and it'd make sense that he would slip back inside instead of slipping out from the garage door. That's what made the most sense to me

I've felt it was Stu for a while now. I've seen arguments here and there about the clumsiness, and how he's the one who sent Tatum to get more beer, so those where things that led me to believe it was Stu. Then adding the point of the school principal being hanged and everything, obviously whoever killed him had to stay behind to hang him up, which makes sense for Billy to be the one doing it.
But the one thing that I've noticed is one step further. In the end when Stu and Billy explain their reasons for doing all this, Stu does mention that it was peer pressure. He's wasn't fully 100% into it then, and killing his girlfriend was a bit more difficult than he thought. He slashed her, but instead of going over and finishing her himself when she's trying to escape through the garage door, letting the door handle it is a bit less personal and easier.

Also i debunked Zach Cherry when he says the positions of each killer at the Casey Becker house! Why? Bc the killer that threw th4 chair through the glass door? Was one in the same. I'd thought it was Billy (along with Casey's kill, or at least the person who stabbed Casey, before she was gutted), but this lines up well. I didn't realize that it was such a skewed opinion to believe this was Billy instead of Stu, because I've seen a fair amount of people suggesting either guy.
With Stu killing Tatum (and Casey, according to Kevin Williamson), it makes me wonder if the intended trend was for one of the villains to do almost all of the killings, because Billy would've only had one kill (Hembry). In Scream 2, Mrs. Loomis likely only killed Randy, while Jill Roberts may have not killed anyone other than Trevor and Charlie, and that's after she already took off the mask and cloak.
Unpopular opinion alert: I think both Wes and Kevin never bothered distinguishing Billy and Stu as ghostface because in almost every ghostface scenes, it could literally be either of them and both of them have the same physical profile, so why bother telling them apart? The idea of ''Who killed who?" started with Scream 2 because in that one, the two killers were very different physically, had different motives and had to split apart by the third act.
For most kills yes except for Kenny I’ll concede there is some level of ambiguity
Kevin was less interested in saying who did it but if you listen to Wes’ commentary on these films it’s clear for some of these he was trying to paint a picture of who he wanted you to think it was on a rewatch once you know who the killers are

Wes was DIRECTOR, not Screenwriter. Screenwriter g dictates story, not Directing, so Wes is completely Irrelevant, it only matters what Kevin says, not Wes.

I've always thought it was Stu that killed Tatum not Billy. Honestly to me it's the most obvious logical choice and obviously not the one people would expect to kill her. Too many people want to overthink it

I think Billy could go out the door because he was just afraid, hear me out, if I was in his place I would also be afraid to go out through the garage doors that just broke and could kick me electricity and the next place where I would wake up would be a hospital with a lot of policemen. Maybe nothing would happen, or maybe it would happen, for caution Billy would come back through the door, then he would leave a back door (Stu's house is big, I assume that he would have some other than those in the garage), took off the costume and ran to front doors where there were Stu and Sid

It was obviously Stu. Infact its Tatum's death that suggest the idea of their being two ghost faces. If it was Billy that did it, Tatums body would've been more mutilated. Yes her death was gruesome however it was perhaps too clean. Also when Stu leaves to go get another Beer, did anyone notice how he wasnt emotionally distraught a few minutes later. That pretty much points to him as the one who killed Tatum.

I know it can be bad editing or these sudden time jumps, but when recently rewatching this movie I do find it weird that the very next scene is stu in his civilian cloths. Ghostface kills tatum and goes back inside the house, the very next scene is stu with other cloths saying good bye to the guests. A few seconds later Billy shows up which would indicate it was him (taking some time to change the costume). Still I think it might be stu because of the clumsiness and his whole behaviour during the killing, so maybe just bad editing.

Whoever it is... they DID have to hide and take off the costume and make sure it was in the house so they could put it on again as both of them are running around after Billy is "killed". And Stu could have listened at the door and unlocked it FOR Billy. Plus... to build suspense of course WE'RE not going to "see" the killer during Tatum's walks until he's revealed. That's simple film making. Not saying this disproves anything; just saying there's discussions to be had. :)

Can you do a video about who attacked Sidney in her house Billy or Stu. Time wise for the house attack it had to be Stu as Billy appeared seconds after the killer left Sidney’s door. Billy would have to take off the costume, run around the house and climb up the ladder just in time. Despite this Sidney herself seems to think Billy is her caller and killer, but she has a bad track record of not seeing things or just not thinking clearly enough in a traumatic situation. The killer does seemingly say “easy” “easy” like Stu the next morning but you have to really listen. The killer disappears shortly after Sidney contacts the police but Dewey is at the door seconds after Sidney realized Billy is one who called her. The moment of realization is seconds after the attacker ghost face leaves and Billy comes out of nowhere. The attacker doesn’t fight as clumsily as Stu (like how you mentioned in this video), he overpowered Sidney while also beating her in hand to hand combat (these are feats that Stu couldn’t accomplish with Tatum even though he had more opportunity as she initially wasn’t fighting back). The Ghostface here uses Stu’s knife hold with two hands above the head, other than that he doesn’t fight like Stu. Stu can run and gut someone in 1.5 - 2 seconds, however based on how quickly Dewey and other officers got to the scene wouldn’t they have been spotted him and realize Billy wasn’t the attacker? This would be especially true since Billy was using Neill’s phone and he most likely put it somewhere outside for Stu to pick up. The most logical explanation is that Billy and Stu planned where for Stu to find the phone and use to call Sidney at a later date. But how would they know the police would appear so early. Is all of these evidence of a third person involved in the murders? Could it be Dewey as he is the cop that appears first at the scene, every scene in the film in fact.

You are correct, however it may initially seem obvious but when analyzing the scene it just doesn’t quite add up. Dewey himself being the attacker makes more sense as he even held the mask in front of Sidney. It almost look like an attempt to traumatize her after trying to make her one of the victims. The timing lines up just perfectly: ghost face disappears for 2-8 seconds before Billy appears and then Sidney runs out of the house to find Dewey. Mickey in scream 2 showed it doesn’t take that long to ditch the costume.

I always thought Billy. As stu sent her to get the beer. Like setting her into a trap, he’s a party guest and Billy wasn’t. Billy kinda shows up after being nowhere just after she dies. However, the nodding ghostface and playful nature in the garage seems like it’s Stu.

La respuesta es mucho más sencilla de lo que parece. A esas alturas de la película, Billy no ha aparecido aún en la casa y el hecho de que ghostface entre en el garaje por la puerta que da acceso al garaje desde la casa, hace que el único asesino posible en esta escena sea Stu porque de haber sido Billy, el resto de jóvenes en la fiesta le habrían visto deambular por la casa, lo que hubiera llamado su atención. El único que estaba en la casa sin levantar sospechas era Stu. Otra cosa diferente es que ghostface hubiera entrado por la puerta del garaje donde muere Tatum. De haber entrado por ahí, hubiera creado muchas más dudas, pero entrando por la puerta de la casa no deja lugar a dudas de que es Stu quien está bajo el disfraz de ghostface.
