Thank for taking the time to make this video. I'd like to ask, were your cabinet new and bare to begin with, or have you stripped them of their previous finish?
If so, what finish were they prior. I have honey oak cabinets that I would like to refinish. I have already cleaned and sanded them to as close to bare wood as possible.

I'm trying to link you to a FB video where I stripped honey oak cabinets. facebook.com/csfeathers/videos/1366957450037811

I had a sheet metal shop make a metal box for dipping all the doors in lacquer thinner. This liquefied the lacquer for easy removal. Each white stain application always allowed the wood grain to show through, otherwise you might as well just paint.

The doors were easy to strip and stain. The cabinet panels were more difficult to achieve an even stain showing the wood grain.

@@ChuckJeanieFeathers the link doesn't work, can you send another one. I am having hard time to figures out a way to remove the old lacquer from the doors, without having to sand them for weeks :D

Hi Antonia, I had a sheet metal shop build a watertight galvanized box. I poured in enough lacquer thinner to cover the inserted doors (hardware removed) to be stripped. I covered the box to reduce evaporation. I used heavy rubber gloves and I wore a cartridge mask for fumes. I lifted the door up with a small pry bar and picked it up while I layed a couple boards on top of the box to support the door. With a 5" putty knife I scraped off the dissolved lacquer and dumped it into a bucket below. I scraped all the flat surfaces. Then, I used a large stiff brush with about a 18" handle. I dipped the brush into the lacquer and scrubbed the surface, especially the seams. I quickly wiped off the loosened lacquer with paper towels. I added paper towels as needed. I dipped a wadded paper towel into the lacquer and did a final cleaning of the whole surface, especially the cracks. Again, I wiped it with clean paper towels. My video of this process is no longer available? I don't know why. The galvanized box can be used for many other purposes. It was used for raising seedlings and for growing a group of succulents. It doesn't rust. Use citrusstrip for removing lacquer from the cabinet frames.

Do you think this same look can be achieved using stock cabinets from Lowe’s or Home Depot? Any recommendations? Thank you

Yes. After sanding the first coats will appear pink, but after about five coats the wood grain will still be visible but the pink color is gone. Just a nice white wood grain look that is very rare because of the extra work.
