Having confidence doesn't hurt. But tennis is all about MATCH-UP. Wawrinka is the cleanest ball hitter on tour. His forehand and backhand swings are as a simple as they come. At his peak, making no errors, he is basically a baseline sledgehammer. Lock and loaded the moment he sees the ball come. Watch his swings. There is no wrist movement until after he's hit the ball. Guess what happens if you give Wawrinka a ball machine. He eats it up. And a ball-machine is basically who Novak is. Novak is probably the greatest to play tennis because he has the consistency of a machine. His balls land consistently on the baseline pushing everyone back. Doesn't matter for Stan. He feeds off Novak's machine-like consistency and he'll just make up the difference with more power. Novak's crosscourt backhand and forehand are the stuff of nightmares for tennis players. When he changes direction going down the line, he throws almost everyone off. Doesn't matter for Stan. He can out-angle Novak's bread and butter cross court shots, and he doesn't have to run around his backhand like Fed or Rafa. He can just slam the backhand anywhere on the court and win the point. Watch the FO final between Novak and Stan. It's the stuff of dreams for any tennis fan. Now, throw Fed's variation vs Wawrinka and you end up with a 20-3 H2H between the two in Fed's favor.

When Stan is on top form, he really can give Djokovic a lot of trouble. He's one of the few players who can hit through his defence. When he's not quite at his best, Djokovic is too consistent for him
In 2016 US Open final Stan hit Novak off the court. Stan’s one handed missile like backhand is the only one around that can beat Novak’s phenomenal defence.
@@xaviermill7440 RELAX. When Wawrinka is at his lowest, he cannot find the court. No amount of confidence is going to work in that situation (and where would it even come from, if he is spraying errors all over the place?), especially against Djoker.
Man, Djokovic has dominated the last 10 years of tennis and has positive H2Hs with Nadal and Federer etc in that time and yet every time he’s played Stan in a grand slam it’s looked like he’s barely hanging on. He must be secretly thanking his lucky star that they’ve only had this one best-of-5 match in the past 5 years
Love Wawrinka’s game. When he’s on, he’s so solid and aesthetic. His serve always reminds me of a scorpion strike. If only he sliced a little more and drop shotted to keep his opponents even more off balance. His serve return was also a weak point as he mostly opts to chip it back. Still a lovely player. Hope to see him back in this form again
stan should coach roger or provide some tips to him when it comes to break the mental block roger has against djokovic. how brutally stan the man obliterates djokovic is evident without any fear
@@permansan9164 It’s his mental game not physical, just look at Wimbledon 2019. He had the championship point twice and couldn’t convert it. To have it in the first place means his physical game is still there.
Stan "The Man" obliterates Djokovic? Is that why Stan "The Man" has only beaten Djokovic 6 times; while Djokovic has beaten Stan "The Man" 19 times ? LOL !!!!!
That’s the difference between Novak and Fed. Novak gives up and retires a dozen times in his career in key matches with any injury. Fed keeps going and finishes the match win or lose.
TheNitrohp Must be Serbian. Nobody else cares. Federer changed the game. No matter how many grand slams Novak wins, he will always be a kiss ass, say nothing boring player to watch. I don't know much about Tennis but there is something unique about Warwinka's game. Roger Novak Rafa, GOATs etc... I get it, sure. But Warwinka is special.
@@j2theosh6969 🤣Stan is up 4:0 in Slam since 2014 obviously that's not luck. Stan have something others don't have. His down the line back hand to Novak's forenad is brutal. Also Stan is not one trick pony he have weapons serves can be big and crushing forehand too. You can't beat the GOAT with one trick. Look what happened to Berittini in Wimbledon's final. Just accept and embrace Stanimal and the beast he is. 😏
My biggest disappointment in the US Open was Warwinka, don't get me wrong I'm now a converted Medvedev fan but would love to have seen Stan on an American hardcourt play Nadal..
Nadal is 18-3 vs Wawrinka, two out of the three Wawrinka wins came in the worst season for Nadal in 2015 and one came at final of the Australian Open 2014 where Nadal was clearly playing with an injury averaging 80 mile per hour serves and not running down anything from the second set until the end. Nadal is probably the worst type of player for Wawrinka.
@@wstew but before that too he never got the same applause as say someone like fedrer or even nadal. even though hes on the same level as far as talent goes.
It's dangerous to play with an injury (especially at the professional level) because you can injure yourself more and then recovery time is even longer so it was probably the right choice for Djokovic.
InterKOT i just feel like he could’ve played but not gone all out and risk injury. being so close to winning and then winning by “default” takes so much deserved credit away from stan. especially since this was stan’s comeback and djokovic was nearly unbeatable. on paper it’ll just look like novak was too injured to play and any player would’ve won regardless.
Jason Zhang i didn’t tell him how to play.. i told him how he could give more respect to his opponent. he’s always talking about respect isn’t he? i’m not acting like i could give him tennis lessons
Wawrinka is the true nemesis of Djokovic. He seems to bring out his A-game every time he turns up against Djokovic, especially during the business end of the tournament.
That BH is gold. The best for me in male tennis. I would chose single handed power backhand to double. It helps change direction so easily. And his BH has venom and dip on both flanks

Paris Masters1000 of 2019, the way he waited first SF result before announcing withdrawal, wow. if Dimitrov got to the final, nadal would play shapovalov certainly , he would have nothing to lose and try to clinch the unachieved Paris Masters. he avoided facing Djokovic and H2H getting enlarged to Djokovic's favor.

Soundgarden97 his 'shoulder injury' lol, ok now where did he get this 'injury' of his?...not at least by playing tennis. It was his left shoulder, non hitting arm. It was a fake injury, he has done this acting even before. But hey I didn't pay those expensive tickets to watch that match so it's all good man 😀. It's just very naive to think he had a shoulder injury, Novak played with full force 2 solid sets, then when Stan again broke his serve Nole just suddenly packed his gear and went off the court. If he was injured, his game would have been way off and would have propably lost those 2 first sets like 6-0, 6-1 etc

One of very few players (maybe Nadal on clay is the other) in this era, who after 2013, on his best day could beat Djokovic regardless of Novak's level in my opinion. His brutal power shots from way behind the baseline just gave real trouble for Djokovic to handle, only player who could hit him through, when he was playing his best tennis. Although Djokovic is much more consistent, can't argue with his numbers, but Waw was absolute joy to watch in these matches. Really strange rivalry with the overall h2h is quite lopsided with a 19-6 score in favour of Djokovic, but if you count only Grand Slam matches it is 4-4 and also after 2013 matches it is 4-4 as well. So after a while (2013-) it became really close.

When Stan is on top form, he really can give Djokovic a lot of trouble. He's one of the few players who can hit through his defence. When he's not quite at his best, Djokovic is too consistent for him
Wrong! Even when Stan at his lowest he still would have find the confidence to take down Djokovic. Stan just simply owns Novak at majors.
He defeats Nole at Roland Garros, AO and USO, wow, just wow, Stanimal!
Twice at USO.
Man, Djokovic has dominated the last 10 years of tennis and has positive H2Hs with Nadal and Federer etc in that time and yet every time he’s played Stan in a grand slam it’s looked like he’s barely hanging on. He must be secretly thanking his lucky star that they’ve only had this one best-of-5 match in the past 5 years
Stan is that quiet guy in you class who minds his won business.
El juego de Djokovic es perfecto para Stan, ese back de Stan es magnífico.
Thank you US Open for uploading this!

stan should coach roger or provide some tips to him when it comes to break the mental block roger has against djokovic. how brutally stan the man obliterates djokovic is evident without any fear
Stan’s backhand is bigger than Roger’s and that makes the difference.
Yeah I also think it has to do more with the backhand. Wawrinka is more powerful on that side than Roger.
Also Stan has a powerful serve, roger has accuracy but against djokovic power is a key with positioning. roger needs that.

Stan really could beat anyone on his day. What a player he was
Stan The Man is one of the very few guys that can wear out Djokovic in Grand slam stages.
Djoko VS Stan rivalry is so underrated. It always shows epic matches with high quality of tennis.
I love Stan the man 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I don't know much about Tennis but there is something unique about Warwinka's game. Roger Novak Rafa, GOATs etc... I get it, sure. But Warwinka is special.
Love these extended highlights. And this one was great.
Joko's Kryptonite. You actually sense Joko weakening physically when he plays Stan The Man!
nole is literally 19-6 in head to head. ur trippin. djokovics only weakness is himself.
@@j2theosh6969 🤣Stan is up 4:0 in Slam since 2014 obviously that's not luck. Stan have something others don't have. His down the line back hand to Novak's forenad is brutal. I think that's also maybe the way Novak hit his back hand slightly flat and stay lower which seem to set up Warwrinka's back hand perfectly. Also Stan is not one trick pony he have weapons serves can be big and crushing forehand too. You can't beat the GOAT with one trick. Look what happened to Berittini in Wimbledon's final.
Novak had an excellent H2H against Stan as well..

RULE 1: NEVER set up Stanislav Wawrinka to play a backhand...it is MORE dangerous than his forehand. How Novak hasn't realized this is mind-boggling
Warinka is currently one of the best players playing with single handed backhand hit!
But he needs to improve his movement
he’s 5 games away from losing. just play the rest of the match. he’s way too quick to retire and based on his movement he wasn’t that injured.
Yep, he is a bitch.
Yeah tell the worlds number one tennis player how to play!
Jason Zhang i didn’t tell him how to play.. i told him how he could give more respect to his opponent. he’s always talking about respect isn’t he? i’m not acting like i could give him tennis lessons
watching wawrinka and djokovic pound the ball cross court backhand to backhand is such a treat.
Anytime Stan does that point-the-finger at his head side after a point won usually means he's on.
another clue is when he starts to consistently hit bh down the line winners.

Djoko literally gave up against Stan the man

Mr. Djokovic can’t you just take a beat like a man? Whenever he feels he’s going to lose he just retires with injury he is the GOAT in retiring from matches? How on earth he’s injuries and he got that ball at minute 11.34????? Even Monfils wouldn’t get that hahaha. He’s a great champion but he’s a greater champion in retiring from matches.
agree, he shouldn't retire IMO, but who knows the truth !? was he really struggling physically ?
to be fair, you must mention nadal as well, the greatest injury faker of all time.

In the middle of the second started the Novak shoulder problems, but Stan was too strong, I don't know if Novak would has beat Stan that day...
Outlasting Novak in long rallies and forcing *HIM* to make errors is probably the one big indication for the other player that he should fancy his chances and go for the win on the day against the legend that is Novak Djokovic.

Don't tell me he couldn't have carried on for 4 more games!
I'm not even a big fan of Djokovic but you people don't get it. Why continue if you have an injury that gets worse? Its no coincidence he retired after the double fault because of his shoulder injury.
@@brianmannion7097 Because people paid to see a match! You're right Novak doesn't have to carry on but then he shouldn't constantly moan that he doesn't get the same love from the crowds as Federer and Nadal do
Soundgarden97 his 'shoulder injury' lol, ok now where did he get this 'injury' of his?...not at least by playing tennis. It was his left shoulder, non hitting arm. Was it injured by tossing the ball lol. Shoulder injuries arise almost solely to the hitting arm from too many overheads and hard smashes...everyone who plays tennis knows this.
@@mickeyguide3112 Oh so you now say its the left shoulder? I thought you said he was faking the injury so why does it matter to a clown like you? You seem very sure of yourself anyway.

Djoko's "visualisation technique" didn't work this time around against Stan , who's my fav by a long margin.

He can fool around chokers like Theim and Fed. Not Stan.. Stan the man who beat him to clinch his 3 gs titles (though 2014 at the SF).. His faking tactics won't work against him.. When the tour return this faker must face Stan for early exit in all GS's except Wimbledon
Warinka's stamina js underrated, i think he outlasts djoker when he peaks, one of the reason he beats djoker in slams

Wawrinka lays perfect plan to beat djokovic. Overpower him and just play risky tennis. But it is easier said than done lol
