    The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first major title, with 18-year-old Raducanu becoming the first-ever qualifier to achieve the feat. The 2022 US Open is scheduled to go ahead between August 23 - September 11.

    That year Wawrinka started his collaboration with Magnus Norman, and somehow started to cause serious problems to the bests, especially to Djokovic. He broke a mental barrier, that others with the same talent were never able to do (Tsonga, Berdych, Gasquet, Ferrer, Monfils ...)

    • @WickedAndWhacked
      @WickedAndWhacked 11 месяцев назад +4

      Mental strength is one aspect another key aspect that people overlook is that tennis is all about the match ups. Wawrinka's game matches up well with Djokovic when he is hitting those safe 3/4 court groundies and Stan can just use his opponent's pace to shoot it back with interest. And he does not often have to hit his backhand above shoulder height unlike he does with Nadal and against whom he has struggled more as a result.

    • @インコ-l8e
      @インコ-l8e 2 месяца назад

      Novak has great distribution, pace, and defensive skills, but the pitches he hit themselves were not that threatening.
      Roger's fast pace drives Stan crazy.
      Rafa's heavy spin also drove Stan crazy.
      Novak's hitting was more mediocre than the two, so Stan must be easy to hit.

    Djokovic always gets the worst draws in New York.
    Imagine if he had Gasquet instead of Wawrinka in 2013 (and Nadal had Wawrinka)
    That long and intense Semifinal is probably what cost him the final in 2013.
    Same happened in 2021.
    If Djokovic had Auger-Aliassime and Zverev ended up in Medvedev's half, the final would've been a lot different.

      Ok, but djokovic here is 26 and is in the middle of his prime. He’s not in his in 30s here. Also, what are you talking about? Did you see his 2016 draw to the final? What about his 2018 draw? Stop whining lol

      2013 onehand backhand players are not trouble for rafa :) gasquet also higher seed than stan

      @hello-mv6yg 2 года назад +3

      @@khanhnguyen-cy6jm this makes zero sense, it doesn't matter that Gasquet was a higher seed, Wawrinka is a far better player, and he would win the next slam, while Gasquet still sits at zero slams. Also, Djokovic didn't just get Zverev, he got Berrettini (no explanation required) and Nishikori (a former US open finalist and a dangerous opponent). Holger Rune and Brooksby have proven their skill level as well. Medvedev's toughest opponent was FAA, who choked away two set points.

    Novak was great in 2013.
    The hard fought fight with Stan at AO, the hard fought fight with Rafa at RG, the hard fought fight with Del Potro at WB, and this hard fought fight with Stan.
    Especially the first 3 matches were great matches that will go down in history.
    But in the WB, he lost badly to Andy, and in the US Open, he lost to Rafa in a precariously competitive match.
    It was as if he was weakened only in the final.
    Has he become Zverev?

    stan the man , I remember back in the day sometime i was even more afraid of this man than nadal or roger, his game style and that one handed backhand down the line hurt novak so much, novak leads the head to head but stan won the only 2 finals they played, roland garros 2015 andus open 2016 , here novak loses to nadal in the final , sometimes I wonder if this is really his worst surface out of the GS, cuz he has reached the final 10 times and lost 6 , 2 with nadal 1 federer 1 murray and 1 wawrinka , 1 medveded , he around 40 % (4-6) of his US Open finals in roland garros he has reached 7 finasl lost 4 but 3 were with nadal, and won 3 he is 43%, hopufully he can improve that before retirement
