Thanks very much for this video! I have watched Amy and Marc for a long time and never tire of all the mysterious glories of their chateau. Also, your chateau, Stephanie, so this video is double the pleasure. Janice from Arkansas USA
Food for thought: The mystery of the Chateau de Rosières and its manmade stone formation is certainly intriguing. The unusually heavy presence of sulfur on some of the granite stones might point to a couple of possible theories. Sulfur was used in ancient religious ceremonies for fumigation, purification of the air surfaces to protect against disease and also as incense. The hilltop location would fit the idea of a religious site connection. Another thought is that in medieval times sulfur was used along with charcoal (fire pit) and saltpeter to make gunpowder. In a later medieval era the gunpowder was ‘corned’, that is, it was placed in covered or vaulted areas to dry it out. Eventually the separate ingredients were also milled into a finer powder and then mixed together for greater explosive effect. Gunpowder was made in times of war at individual castles/chateaux but for safety it was usually made at a site some distance from the chateaux and stored away from inhabited buildings. How many are now left wondering if the mystery will ever be solved?
This chateau couldn't be in better hands. The respect and enthusiasm in contagious. Wonderful to see the admiration and excitement Stephanie has for this place.
@@Chroniclesofrosieres I absolutely love the work you two are doing. It's a true castle with so many periods represented from ancient to more modern. And the gardens and farms are wonderful, too. Best wishes for every success.
Marc and Amy are such lovely people and are wonderful protectors of the land and history of their Chateau! They are mutually blessed! Thank you for the tour! Their vlog is awesome. If you have not subscribed to it, you need too!
I love Amy and Marc for their intelligence and sense of humour ❤ That bedroom is the most beautiful I’ve seen on all the chateau vlogs I think. I spotted a king parrot on the wall fabric. One of my favourite birds here in Australia. Good to see Joseph Banks get a mention. He came to Australia with James Cook and took so many botanical samples back to England. Botany Bay was named because of this. The history of the chateau is amazing. Well done Stephanie and Philip for your work in bringing us this wonderful vLog👏👏👏😘
I have watched Marc & Amy's channel for some time. Stephanie, you really nailed it! You brought out their personalities, their mission and the amazing history (and beauty) of their chateau! I genuinely encourage everyone to support their channel in any way that you can! This area of France is so under-represented in tourism and even general conversation -- it deserves much more of out attention!
Could not be more thankful to Stephanie for introducing us to other wonderful Chateau owners. Enjoyed this immensely and subscribed. Can't wait to learn more about the history and geography of Chateau de Rosieres. Deeply respect the ethics of how Amy and Marc are doing things and wish them all the best. Huge thanks to Phillip for all that he does.
This historic property is beautiful..and much larger than I recall hearing. Marc and Amy have the same kind of enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge as do you Stephanie. They have seemingly endless energy as well👏🏻👏🏻
Amy and Marc are the perfect owners of this spectacular chateau. I have been watching them since you and Philip first visited them a few years ago. Thanks for the beautiful tour. 😍😘
The circle at on the top plateau made me immediately think of an Iron Age roundhouse. Outer stone foundation, inner circle for the hearth. If the whole site was almost a type of Iron Age "fortress," then the chief could have lived on the upper plateau. Note sure what French law allows, but some simple field walking in and around the circle, without digging, might yield some pottery that could be dated.
This is exactly the sort of thing we're thinking. There are a number of sites near here with similar platforms but more of them, so it looks like a settlement. We've done some casual surveying of the land around but it's quite densely wooded and has had heavy agriculture over the centuries so we've not found much. We hope to see an expert soon thought!
What a fabulous chateau Marc and Amy have, I love following their vlog, both are very interesting people with delightful children. Thank you Stephanie and Philip for taking us on this journey.
Stephanie in full autumn mode and Marc in shorts and a shirt - too adorable 😂 loved the historical insights, what an old jewel!! Loved this tour and their wonderful owners. 👏🏻
I LOVED this video! I saw parts of the chateau and estate I had never seen before and how many projects they have in the works. The medieval property is so unique and I hope it will draw a family of people (much as you have at LaLande) who have the skills and a passion for the uniqueness of this ancient site to help solve the mysteries and help Marc and Amy to realize their dreams for bringing an ancient site into a beautiful sustainable future. Thank you for showcasing this impressive property and wonderful couple. PS - Loved the bedroom and once again, Phillip's keen eyes found the arches. Thank you, Stephanie. ❤❤
Consider having a LIDAR scan of the Chateau grounds. First it may reveal new areas of interest, second it can give you the physical context of the features and their relationship to each other. I am not sure what the chemical make up of your spring water is, but does it have a Sulphur component, the spring may have fed into the gaulic platform, leaving a residue of Sulphur over time. A geologist maybe of great help answering the Sulphur question and be able to tell you if the stone make up is local or brought in. Since the spring is capped hard to tell where original flow was or if it had been diverted previously. They could try partnering with a university that does specialize in the era to study. They are an amazing couple/family, I hope everyone follows their channel on their journey of discoveries, as they are going to have many.
In America, we would often store coal at the highest peak to ensure less devastation from fire! Reaching a bit, but if he’s correct that that was a foundation for a wooden structure and it was a massive coal store, that would explain the sulfur and the holes! They were built to allow the coal dust to escape with air to prevent buildup and decrease the risk of fires 🤗
Thank you Stephanie for visiting Amy and Marc. I remember them from DIY, where I first became enchanted with you and your joy of life. It was lovely to see how far they have come and their beautiful family! THANK YOU, as always! Love from Oz.🥳👏👏👏👏🥰🐝🐝🌼🌻

What a fascinating and intriguing place. Ancient and full of mystery. Lovely knowledgeable couple, down to earth couple with a sense of humour as well. Thank you Stephanie. I will subscribe to their channel. I love these guys, and follow them on their channel. Stephanie, you are so eloquent in interviewing Marc and Amy in such a relaxed way. I love Mac's accent, his English is excellent, and Amy is so well educated on the history of their Chateau. I absolutely love the green tiled splash back that the lovely Amy made herself, and being a potter myself, I think it is stunning, and would have it in my own home. I love that the family are living their family lives in their Chateau, it is a truly, living and breathing family home, and yet, they are still keeping the history of the building, and treating her with the utmost respect. This was a wonderful tour of Marc and Amy’s chateau. I’ve recently started following their channel and this video really helped me get an overview of the project
It looks like a roundhouse to me… Iron Age or Bronze Age. Love it❤ The holes in the wall look like draft holes, you have air coming in to help the smoke from fires rise and leave through the roof. Also if a fire is closer to the holes it would help the fire become hotter.
I remember watching Amy and Marc at the beginning of there You Tube journey Amy's confidence has grown so much , which is great to see good luck in your lifetimes journey.
The stone mystery at the top of the property really reminded me of Newgrange in Ireland. They left areas hollow in the stone structure to allow for lighting effects during certain times of year, and we’re certainly ancient as they date to the Neolithic Period.
Dear. Stephanie. These Historical Chateus you have been posting this channel have been amazing to watch!!. Especially as someone who loves historical architecture. . PLEASE. Keep this channel going of you can. Or Maybe later other Historical architectures around France? 🥰❤️🇳🇿🇳🇱

This chateau is magnificent and the owners such a lovely family. Their excitement for ongoing and future projects is infectious. What an undertaking and to think that they are surrounded by such history! I love it! Thank you Stephanie and Philip for this vlog and introducing us to yet another magnificent chateau🥰
Thanks so much for this marvelous video. I find Marc and Amy delightful and their Chateau has such an intreguing allure about it. They are doing such appropriate and interesting decorating. I missed seeing Clement. I guess he was napping.
I have my roots in France from my father´s side, and I´m so pleased to hear a bit of fascinating history and see these beautiful sceneries with chateaux. I love also that english and french people are so good friends, so long time after all the wars. Europe has been through a lot. Such an incredible place for small children to grow up at!
I really think they should look into ancient lime kilns beehive types, there would be no charcoal at the top. There should be a slope to that hill with an entrance down the side where they would enter. It should be ruled out for sure. As the top you were standing on could someday cave in. The sulfur is a by-product residue of some clays and natural water sources. With all the underground cisterns and orangeries and tunnels it should be investigated at a lower level. Just my opinion though. I would actually love it to be a mystical portal of some wizard but it would be more practical to be self sufficient in producing fertilizer, mortar, pottery etc.
Wow Wonderland with Forest and Chateau. Beautiful Mark and Amy! I'll go to the other vlog mix and watch from the start. Bluebird 123 suggested that the tunnels under the stone platform was for air under the fire. Hope an expert was to volunteer and write up a paper on this Chateau.😘😘😘

Dear. Stephanie. These Historical Chateus you have been posting this channel have been amazing to watch!!. Especially as someone who loves historical architecture. . PLEASE. Keep this channel going of you can. Or Maybe later other Historical architectures around France? 🥰❤️🇳🇿🇳🇱
Thank you! I was captivated by all the wonderful stories, discoveries and adventures of this fascinating chateau and lovely family. It was such a joy to share their passion and zest for life. What a wonderful childhood and legacy for their family.
What a lovely château and family!!
Those tiles are stunning!
Thank you very much!
He popped up once! But yes he did do a lot of napping!
I believe Clement is of an age, that in France he is school age for part of the day.
What a beautiful chateau filled with history and restored with love.
I had the same thought, that these are air holes to keep a fire oxygenated.
It is a beautiful chsteaux
What a beautiful Chateaux and family .
